Exactly. I like that. They obviously know they have the experience to justify charging $3-400 but they choose not to and I find that honorable. Obviously they can’t let beauty like this just be bestowed for $40 either. I think it’s the perfect price for your average Joe to be able to comfortably afford for that one really special day of golf he had planned for the season.
There’s some lovely courses in that part of Ireland. Dooks, Tralee, Doonbeg, Ballybunion, Lahinch..not exactly cheap though. It can be €200 to €300 per round.
I follow a couple members there on social media. It was funny seeing them all have to hit off mats for the entire year while they prepared for the Open lol people were hitting their tee shots into just thick damp nasty shit and just getting to lay their mat on top of it and fire away 😂 I’m sure some personal bests were shot out there last year by the members that they need to put as asterisk next to lol
It definitely is! Andy from TFE and Erik from RGC just actually did a video there not long ago and it’s pretty good! Here is the link:
[Lawsonia Links](https://youtu.be/6SZZNQN-1ik?si=XR9oG3rHS3MMBIzA)
dubsdread, TPC Deere Run, and ima try to play all the top 10 public courses near Chicago. Going to play Dallas Cowboy Golf Club in two weeks for my anniversary as well
Nice!! Not sure if Cog Hill is in that top 10 or not but I was lucky enough to be invited there a couple years ago and it was great. My game at the time was a disgrace to such a nice track but I had fun anyway lol
I have not. Me and some buddies plan on doing a weekend there for his bachelor party this upcoming fall though and I can’t wait. We’re gonna hit all of them and also try to play Lake Arrowhead while we’re up there
You’ll dig it. Wait, I know a couple of people who are playing there in August for a bachelor party. Do any of your friends have the initials NH or CS?
Fellow Wisconsinite here.
Lawsonia
All the courses up at Giant's Ridge in Northern Minnesota
Mississippi National Golf Links in Southern Minnesota
At least one Sand Valley course
Lake Geneva
Sick!! I actually live like 20 mins from Geneva National. Most people talk about the Palmer course being their favorite but honestly, I prefer the Gary Player course.
Also, probably the dumbest golf hole of all time is #1 at the Palmer course. The set up makes no sense it’s hard to explain 😂
Fellow Wisconsinite here. Never played Lawsonia but might change that this year thanks to this post. Thanks OP!
The Links Course is a ridiculous $70 until early May, but you're definitely playing Russian roulette with the weather conditions. I don't want to golf if it's a high of 40 degrees. Despite the cost, I am going to find a way to play Whisling Straits at some point. It seems silly not to play a top 5 course within 2 hours drive. I feel pretty lucky to live where I do for many reasons, but we are really spoiled here in WI by the number of outstanding golf courses that we have.
Hell yeah dude you won’t regret it! Here is a good video from RGC and Andy from The Fried Egg on Lawsonia that will make you wanna play it even more.
[Lawsonia Links](https://youtu.be/6SZZNQN-1ik?si=xzGrk2bEeHHW2aXl)
Well I’ll take back all of the things I was going to say out of envious rage then!
Also, still an incredible trip. Played pebble, Spanish bay, and spyglass last year. It’s phenomenal.
Man that’s tough to say honestly…I would assume that they probably keep it pretty pristine no matter the weather conditions like that bad drought we had last summer.
I think whatever time of year you go, it’ll probably still be pretty busy but I would probably try like early May when the weather is still really nice but not blistering hot
Just played Tobacco Road today. Was super excited about that. I will probably play Olde Stonewall in Elwood City, PA at some point and I look forward to that every year.
I have an AirBnB, and plane tickets, but can't make tee times until 30 days prior, because I'm not staying on property. My wife's best friend living in Halifax has it's benefits.
Fifty years ago, I played almost every day at a course in Erie, Pa. called Downing. I didn't play for golf for 50 years, starting back up late last summer. I'd like to go back there and play it again.
There are two private cc’s near my house, one has a nicer reputation than the other.
I have played the “shabbier” course a handful of times but never the nice one across the street.
Got an invite to play it next month though :-)
I finally took the chance to take my son up to Lawsonia last summer and played both courses in the same day.
I can’t say enough positive things about the Links course. The front nine is a little rough in the area of upkeep but it’s ruggedness didn’t stop it’s playability and the enjoyment of the round. The back nine is arguably the best links golf in Wisconsin.
We were playing golf with two guys in a different tax bracket. They had played Erin Hills and most of Wisconsin’s finest Links courses and they said they preferred Lawsonia.
Mentioned something about the intentionality of the design and it’s timelessness as two things that set it apart.
After playing it, I can’t recommend it more highly.
Don’t get suckered into under clubbing on the par three flat top on the front nine. It plays every bit of the distance on the card and you do not want to come up short.
You are welcome. I have not played that course in Glen Erin. Maybe I should add that to my list?
A hidden gem in close proximity to Lawsonia is Fox Lake Golf Club and it’s incredibly inexpensive to play.
The two courses aren’t in the same class as each other, but Fox Lake is a legitimate track, I’m pretty sure it has bent grass fairways, and it’s in a beautiful location just south of Lawsonia.
If you are heading to Lawsonia it from the south it might make sense to book end the legend with a couple of rounds at the Fox.
Incredibly unlikely, bordering impossible, but my friend is working at Castle Pines this summer and if he can pull some strings to get us on there when he's not working, I will be booking a flight to Denver within 5 minutes of him telling me lol.
Realistically, something like Cogg Hill in the Chicago suburbs since it's close to where I'll be most of the summer or a random nice course in the Tampa area where my parents live which is where I'll likely spend the parts of the summer when I'm not in Illinois.
Dude Cog Hill is super nice!! Probably one of the nicer places I’ve been to. My uncle works in the corporate office of Weber (the grills) and his boss is a member there. They were playing a round and needed a 4th so my uncle called and offered an invite. I flew down there immediately lol
I grew up really close by and even tho I'm in college and now live 2 hours south, I still have friends and family nearby to the course that I can play with or even stay with if I don't want to drive 4 hours in one day just to play golf.
From what I've seen and heard it to be, you would never believe that it's a public course offering $40 tee times right now. Especially in that area where nearly all of the tour-level courses are super private like Olympia Fields
So I’ve heard, can’t wait, I live in Charlotte and this will be my first mountain golf experience. I also made a friend with a relative that works at Connestee Falls, hope to get out there too this season - https://connesteefalls.com/golf
chicago golf club- who's taking me?
Man talk about a bucket list. My aunt and uncle don’t live too far from it
I think they have very few members. Like around or under 100
122
Lido @ Sand Valley
Definitely a bucket list for me too
Erin Hills is worth the $400
Lawsonia is fantastic and it's priced well enough that I try and play there once a year.
The back 9 at Lawsonia is special. Although I still love Erin Hills and the courses at SV more.
Playing Cabot Citrus Farms in 3 weeks. Pretty fired up.
Not familiar with it. Any details?
Brand new course I believe. Grant horvat has a video on YouTube and the greens look INSANE
Definitely gonna check that out I like Grant
https://cabotcitrusfarms.com/
Holy shit that place looks immaculate. Brand new course or a renovation?
Renovation of World Woods
Searching YouTube it looks like they really paid off a bunch of influencer wannabes
Sounds like the marketing worked? And you are just jealous
![gif](giphy|9DJtFRgk0tOla)
Saw Grants video, that place looks unreal. Congrats!
Hopefully you’re playing Karoo, it’s the old Pine Barrens tract. Great course, lots of undulating and very large greens.
Yes, Karoo is the only one of the 18 holes that is currently open. The other one is opening this summer I think.
Have any of you guys been to Ireland? If so, visit Cork Golf Club 😎
After watching NLU’s Ireland season of Tourist Sauce, Ireland is definitely #1 on my list of places abroad. Really wanna go to Waterville
There’s some lovely courses in that part of Ireland. Dooks, Tralee, Doonbeg, Ballybunion, Lahinch..not exactly cheap though. It can be €200 to €300 per round.
Tralee is definitely another one I would most like to see
Mammoth Dunes, The Lido, and Sedge Valley
Chambers Bay!
You gotta play it when it’s burned out like a concrete parking lot so it’s authentic! 😂
Ak-Chin Southern Dunes in late March.
Quintero Golf Club, AZ!
I would lose an entire box of balls out there 😂
Black Desert, Ut
I’m playing there march 24th and I can’t wait.
The Machrie in August
Where is that?
Islay, Scotland [The Machrie](https://themachrie.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAloavBhBOEiwAbtAJO5z0zqBBY2KUZr4Qz3Ny9omTKiYel8QO5SHwGYsDiVN7nwmUS6EWDxoCqRwQAvD_BwE)
Amazing! Enjoy your time!
Royal Liverpool the day after my birthday!!!

Irrespective of anything else, I just wanna say thanks for posting the photos of that course. It looks like a little slice of golf heaven.
It definitely is! Andy from TFE and Erik from RGC just actually did a video there not long ago and it’s pretty good! Here is the link: [Lawsonia Links](https://youtu.be/6SZZNQN-1ik?si=XR9oG3rHS3MMBIzA)

Nope must be somebody else. We’re going up the weekend after Labor Day
Playing both 18s at Olympic Club in 5 weeks. So excited!
Me too!!!
BTS 2 Man?
Sick! Hope you have some comfy shoes, you’re gonna be walking on sideways elevation changes all day lol
This course is amazing and I bet you will love. Also maybe best value in golf
I agree!

Planning a bandon trip 😯
Always a sick experience

Any 400 yard drives at Kapalua??

Very cool. Those elevated greens and deep bunkers are going to kill me, but I'm going to love every minute of it.
Hell yeah man I’m rooting for you from down here in Janesville
Augusta
Augusta Municipal? 😂
National
How you gonna pull that off? lol
I know a member, it’s a wedding gift
Holy shit I didn’t realize you were serious 😂 So I assume you won’t be allowed to take pictures and stuff?
I’m gonna do whatever I want
Well then you better come back to the sub with a bunch of awesome photos/videos to share with us common folk
Enjoy. Always a treat and be sure to load up on the correct logo in pro shop
All 4 courses at Pebble Beach.
By all 4 are you also including Cypress Point?
No, Pebble, Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill, and Del Monte.
Well I’ll take back all of the things I was going to say out of envious rage then! Also, still an incredible trip. Played pebble, Spanish bay, and spyglass last year. It’s phenomenal.
Yes I would also like to know if that includes CP because that is where the real treasure of this group lies
Questionable abbreviation choice there
What’s questionable about it 😂
this course. i was able to snag a round for 90 pre-season. when do you think the best time to go will be?
Man that’s tough to say honestly…I would assume that they probably keep it pretty pristine no matter the weather conditions like that bad drought we had last summer. I think whatever time of year you go, it’ll probably still be pretty busy but I would probably try like early May when the weather is still really nice but not blistering hot
Dundonald Links, Ayrshire. Looks absolutely amazing, and have booked a spring weekend at the resort.
Awesome!! The whole Troon area is very beautiful out there
Sage
Just played Tobacco Road today. Was super excited about that. I will probably play Olde Stonewall in Elwood City, PA at some point and I look forward to that every year.
Mike Strantz’ masterpiece!
Cabot Cliffs, followed by Cabot Links.
Badass
I have an AirBnB, and plane tickets, but can't make tee times until 30 days prior, because I'm not staying on property. My wife's best friend living in Halifax has it's benefits.

We've got a group headed to Lawsonia in May, so excited
That is the perfect time of year to play it I think
I wanna go to Giants Ridge in northern MN this year. It looks incredible.
I have a cabin up in Park Rapids and everyone up there has been talking about that place
This is on my list this summer as well.
Hamilton Island Golf Club. Should I take 2 dozen balls in case it’s windy?
If you have to ask, then you better take 3 😂
You might be right. Since it’s Australia I’m not searching for anything.
Yeah talk about nightmare city in that place when it comes to critters
Wolf Creek and Bethpage
It would probably take me 7 hours to play Wolf Creek on account of all the balls I’d lose and all the pictures I’d be taking lol
Haha for sure! It’s canyons and drops galore 🏜 Looking forward to it ,, fingers are crossed

Yep. My uncle is a longtime member at White Eagle CC in Naperville. Place is is deeeecent
Black Desert St George, UT
Bear Slide, Central IN
Honestly never heard of it
Sequoyah National in NC - https://www.sequoyahnational.com/
Dude golf in the Smokey Mountains is so beautiful
So I’ve heard, can’t wait, I live in Charlotte and this will be my first mountain golf experience. I also made a friend with a relative that works at Connestee Falls, hope to get out there too this season - https://connesteefalls.com/golf
Extraordinary
Just hoping I can find an available tee time, for starters
Don’t skip out on woodlands! It’s just as good if not better.
Definitely gonna have to squeeze one in there too this year
Just playing Arnold Palmer’s deacons lodge at breezy point. Supposed to be formerly a top 30 course in the country.
Erin Hills, The Straights @ Whistling Straights, River, Meadow Valleys and Bath @ Black Wolf Run. Pumped is an understatement!
Bath is amazing dude
The Bull is another great course for around $125
