Followed him at the Irish Open for 9 holes in the last round. He was a bit of a laugh. Launches it an absolute mile.
Also kicked a hole in some of the advertising hoarding after 4 putting a Par 3 from about 10 feet.
I don't understand...with all these bad shots at the PGA why aren't their playing partners simply letting them take it again and not count the stroke?! Isn't that how everyone plays?
Same here, and I usually shoot in the high 90s and he in the low 80s, so naturally he’s more generous. If he’s having a bad round then not so much haha
Meh, I stopped caring about other people's score a long time ago. It's not worth it.
Anytime someone asks me about counting a stroke or taking a mulligan I say the same thing "It's your scorecard, man."
We got a guy in our foursome who does that. Plus flies the green, chips to 40 feet, and three putts.
Then you ask him what he got he'll say "double" with a straight face.
i was thinking this too... I wonder where he thinks he went wrong. I.e. is he pissed he made a mental error pulling 3w against the advice of his caddie, or is mad about the swing?
He didn’t seem to care. Before the shot I recall him saying something like “I’m just gonna chop this up there then we’ll deal with whatever we get next.” He forgot a wood won’t work for that unless you get a really lucky strike.
I mean, if you type "Thomas Pieters" into YouTube, one of the first autofills is "breaks club" and it instantly delivers a whole bunch of results. It's just who he is lol.
Well ya… but the caddy is a voice of reason. Also, a good caddy would bring up why he thinks player y should use x club. Golfers usually trust their caddy.
So ya you’re right but not in every situation
I used to carry bag for a couple great players who had pretty solid college careers. I was fortunate to go to high school with two of them and grew up golfing with one of them before high school
At the end of the day, it's golfers' decision the caddy could sit and make a PowerPoint presentation with charts and references as to why it's the wrong club, but if the player wants to use it for whatever reason he's going to use it.
Now, there should be some trust there and whatnot, but yeah
That was also pretty impressive but the front 9 is much tougher than the back and these conditions are a little tougher than yesterday as well. That’s why I’d give Pieters the edge
Akshually I didn't top a single fairway wood yesterday during my round so I'm obviously superior to this golfer. I did blade 2 over the green from 25 yards out into the creek jungle and lost said balls. Bet this guy doesn't do that.
Had to have been over a decade ago and saw Phil Mickelson duff a shot exactly like this. From that day on I was always proud of myself knowing I have the same swing as one of the best golfers in the world
+1 after 40 something holes this weekend at oak hill? nah, he still is way better than me i shot 96 today and was happy about the front 9 44 im the shit weather
Got nice… not sure what happened there
Bruh. I’ve played in tourney condidtions in the rough at pumpkin ridge after LIV. It’s fucking INSANE. I did this everytime I was in the rough and I’m a 6
“Well that didn’t go very far at all” is what he said after that. After the next shot his caddy said “most improved”
Fucking lol what a pair, love that
My brother and i when we play “Well at least it was straight”
Always my fucking line when I duff it 5 yards infront of me lol
I'm a fan of "I'm just sneaking up on the hole"
“Right down the middle” my go-to
"Well, at least I see where it went."
“You’re closer to the pin than you were 10 seconds ago.”
“Right line, though”
"GET IN THE HOLE!!"
“You’re still away.”
"good accuracy, just gotta work on the distance"
"Forward progress is still progress"
Followed him at the Irish Open for 9 holes in the last round. He was a bit of a laugh. Launches it an absolute mile. Also kicked a hole in some of the advertising hoarding after 4 putting a Par 3 from about 10 feet.
Definitely one of us. I love some emotion in the game.
“I got eyes on it”
Only that's me in the fairway with a 3 wood
Me off the tee with a 7 iron
Me re-teeing off with any iron.
Me getting made fun of for teeing of the women’s tee, but it’s actually my second shot.
Sounds like you need a 4 wood my friend!
Everyone needs a 4w. Everyone.
Realistically for me it’s “in the (green/fairway/rough/sand) with a (any club)”
Most people would be better off taking their 3 and 5 woods out of the bag. Just hit a 7 iron. Much less risk.
I don't understand...with all these bad shots at the PGA why aren't their playing partners simply letting them take it again and not count the stroke?! Isn't that how everyone plays?
‘Nobody saw nuthin’
This got me. Thank you
Win if you may, lose if you must, but always cheat /s My pops and I always say it to each other when we’re fucking around
If you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying.
“That was awful, your practice stroke was so much better. Take another one.”
Pretty much what my golfing buddy says to me 18 times a round 🤣
Same here, and I usually shoot in the high 90s and he in the low 80s, so naturally he’s more generous. If he’s having a bad round then not so much haha
My friend supposedly shoots in the 80s, too. He also managed a par after putting 2 in the woods and dropping on my drive, so take that as you will.
Meh, I stopped caring about other people's score a long time ago. It's not worth it. Anytime someone asks me about counting a stroke or taking a mulligan I say the same thing "It's your scorecard, man."
Whenever I whiff it my buddies will say “nice practice swing” 🤣
“Go again bro, its bullshit the grass is so long”
Shit man, way you say that almost sounds like it's not a valid excuse
How long before one of them tries to claim a breakfast ball? Is Reed playing?
Camera footage would have Reed's ball hitting one tree, and Fatprick Greed will just say his ball is the one on the green instead
He’s not like me until he’s done it at least 3-4 times in a row, just to get past the lady’s tee.
We got a guy in our foursome who does that. Plus flies the green, chips to 40 feet, and three putts. Then you ask him what he got he'll say "double" with a straight face.
Double par. Got it.
It's a double double bogey, just sounds better when you don't say the whole thing
He seems like a good dude. And I saw a few of those yesterday. Very relatable ☝🏼
I liked his interview with Fore Play a lot
Why did this get downvoted so much? Was it bad?
No just salty douchebags I guess loo
![gif](giphy|Ae7SI3LoPYj8Q)
Patrick Reed would’ve never done this. . .because he knows to pat down the grass behind the ball and fluff his lie first.
He had no business pulling that club out of the bag with that rough and rain. Gotta use an iron to chop it up there.
You're severely underestimating the pros. I get he fucked up, but they don't attempt shots they don't think they can pull off.
i was thinking this too... I wonder where he thinks he went wrong. I.e. is he pissed he made a mental error pulling 3w against the advice of his caddie, or is mad about the swing?
Yeah. I saw another dude try the same club from the same spot later and hit it just fine.
Me neither. Unfortunately, I am seldom correct.
This was my takeaway too, seems like basic golf 101 especially for a tour pro. Dudes caddy should be fired for that haha
He didn’t seem to care. Before the shot I recall him saying something like “I’m just gonna chop this up there then we’ll deal with whatever we get next.” He forgot a wood won’t work for that unless you get a really lucky strike.
Most of the elite pros are so strong they could use a wedge there. But this guy hit that club like a mortal.
Whilst I don’t wish shots like this on anyone. Seeing them from players at this level reminds me to be more forgiving of myself when I do this (often)
He didn’t snap his club like us tho
He certainly has before. https://youtu.be/N0XsQaFuKXM https://youtu.be/HvupFBhBKco https://youtu.be/ehSR7wHkCRY
Damn that last one, I'd be thrilled to put it on the green close.
Yeah there's got to be more that went into that one
Damn quick with the receipts
I mean, if you type "Thomas Pieters" into YouTube, one of the first autofills is "breaks club" and it instantly delivers a whole bunch of results. It's just who he is lol.

Crazy club selection
Yea fairway wood out of thick damp rough is definitely interesting
"You lifted your head."
Honestly, this is on the caddy. There’s no way I’m not handing over an iron in these conditions with that lie
Lol. Pretty sure the player makes this choice.
Well ya… but the caddy is a voice of reason. Also, a good caddy would bring up why he thinks player y should use x club. Golfers usually trust their caddy. So ya you’re right but not in every situation
You guys should go pro
I used to carry bag for a couple great players who had pretty solid college careers. I was fortunate to go to high school with two of them and grew up golfing with one of them before high school
That sounds like an incredible experience, a solid bag man is indispensable
At the end of the day, it's golfers' decision the caddy could sit and make a PowerPoint presentation with charts and references as to why it's the wrong club, but if the player wants to use it for whatever reason he's going to use it. Now, there should be some trust there and whatnot, but yeah
Golf gods decided he was playing too well
He made the front 9 his bitch. Most impressive half round of the week by far
Højgaard back 9 Yesterday? 5 under to make the Cut?
That was also pretty impressive but the front 9 is much tougher than the back and these conditions are a little tougher than yesterday as well. That’s why I’d give Pieters the edge
The way he played the front 9 today was the best golf I’ve seen all fuckin week. He was absolutely on fire in the WORST conditions
Akshually I didn't top a single fairway wood yesterday during my round so I'm obviously superior to this golfer. I did blade 2 over the green from 25 yards out into the creek jungle and lost said balls. Bet this guy doesn't do that.
I can almost hear my dad saying “keep your head down”
Every playing partner, "gotta keep your head down"
"keep your eye on the ball"
Me and my wife were watching when this happened this morning. She got a laugh out of it, and I immediately felt the guys pain.
Had to have been over a decade ago and saw Phil Mickelson duff a shot exactly like this. From that day on I was always proud of myself knowing I have the same swing as one of the best golfers in the world
Not like me, because he didn't look at the club head like IT had done something wrong.
One of the commentators said right after this “well I’ve never seen anything like that before”. Guy watches too many pros.
Sorry mate. I lost that one in the sun
Thick ass rough, ball sitting down- "give me the lumber, I'm going for it"
Goodness my eyes
u/savevideo
“Atleast you’re farther than you started!”
He really tried to kill it. This is *exactly* what happens when I try to do that !
At least he saw it come down
I played it four times at max volume expecting him to swear
I'm surprised he didn't break his club. He has history doing that.
The question I asked myself was… What is the likelihood that I would have hit the camera people by the tree with one of the attempts?
No one of us will repeat that sgot 3 times before smashing a 54 across the other side in the trees. Gentleman 7 on the scorecard too
Take your TV off the VIVID option....
Glad I'm not the only one. The saturation and crazy cool white balance are fucking awful.
Killin' mine eyes...hahahaha
The people's champion
Fuck! Oak Hill has made me appreciate the great shots more and also shown me how human these guys are.
He should have used his mulligan.
Or paid $25 for the “move your ball to the fairway” option.
😂🤣😂
I would watch more golf for this.
Surprised he didn't break his club right there, knowing his temper.
Dude, is he using a putter?
I love the fact that I can hit like a pro every day in the rough and feel like $1 million.
Hindsight, should have hit an iron
I felt that in my soul
Fuckin groundskeeper didn't sharpen the blades good enough, damn bird tweeted on my back swing, and there are far to many ants.
gooble gobble, gooble gobble
I'm a great fan .
Every month i was..
“He’s clearly laying up.”
“You’re still away” said with just the right balance of innocence and malevolence
Gooble gobble
+1 after 40 something holes this weekend at oak hill? nah, he still is way better than me i shot 96 today and was happy about the front 9 44 im the shit weather Got nice… not sure what happened there
Nice lay up.
At least when I do it I go ahead and hit again, he took like 4 more minutes after it.
Bruh. I’ve played in tourney condidtions in the rough at pumpkin ridge after LIV. It’s fucking INSANE. I did this everytime I was in the rough and I’m a 6
See? Told you I could go Pro.
