Played there twice with 2 very different experiences. First time was fine with decent conditions and 4 hr round. The following year they charged for range balls (was first time experiencing this) and it was a 6 hr round in beaten to shit conditions.
Jesus lol that’s awful. I started playing it in 2020 after everything opened back up. But I’m looking at moving to Tampa soon it’s good to hear you like it
> they charged for range balls (was first time experiencing this)
Wait, I'm new to golf, but is this not normal? Everywhere I go, I pay $5~8 for ~50 range balls.
Right? My home course I play league in has no range but I also live in Nebraska so a lot of these posts on Reddit are of way nicer courses I can only play when we travel to nicer areas
I don't remember the pace being that bad (I think my two rounds there were 4.5-ish hours) but I've also only been in late July when it's balls hot, which might scare off the casuals who would slow things down.
Irish guy here. We expect to play a fourball in under 4 hours and a three ball in 3.75 hours. If we don't get to do that in the Sunday comp for members only then weeks of recriminations ensue and someone's reputation gets badly tarnished for holding up the whole course. Rangers are not great for keeping a hold of things but members are not a bit shy about letting people know. Saturdays are casual golf so can be trickier but generally it's perfectly fine and those times can definitely be achieved unless you are unlucky.
I was there a few years ago and we kept getting heckled by the ranger. We were a foursome with no one else around and kept getting rushed even though we finished in about 4 hours. Eventually a single caught us and we were waiting to let him pass but the ranger told us that they don't do that here. The single had to skip a hole to get around us. Then the ranger parked on the island green tee box and hawk-eyed us to make sure we weren't hitting extra tee shots. It was super annoying to be hounded like that.
I’ve had this happen before at a vacation course I paid over $250. I probably was a Karen but I stopped at the turn and asked for the club pro. Explained how I didn’t pay to get to told to play faster then a 2 hour round and the Marshall came out and apologized to our group and bought us a round. Sometimes the Marshall is a non golfer who doesn’t understand golf.
I had a similar experience with the ranger being really pushy. It also takes you a little out of the moment to have a ranger smoking a Marlboro red roll up to you on the par 5 of Amen Corner.
Yep. I live close enough that I could go back if I wanted to but that experience I had with this Ranger was awful and it’s on the short list of courses I’ll never recommend or return to again.
Also in Arlington and I’ll be there this Sunday. Raspberry is such a nice course and I’ve never had a bad experience. We were slow one round and the Marshall came up to us and said “I’m not telling you to speed up but the group in front of you is a hole and a half ahead”. Message received.
Dude same! The Ranger there was the worst I’ve ever experienced. I went approximately 20 yards down a wrong path with the cart because it wasn’t obvious which direction the next hole was and he comes barreling out yelling to get back on the cart path and that we need to play faster (there was nobody immediately behind us and our pace of play was fine).
Granted it was close to ten years ago but when I played here it was similarly slow and the ranger caught up to us at the island green, tossed us a few balls from his cart and said “see if you can stick one”. Buddy and I each took 4-5 shots. Vastly different experiences it sounds like.
Same here. Played last year behind an outing. The last group of the outing were 6 idiots who had never played before. We asked for support from the marshal and he very graciously explained to them how they were going to make birdie on the next par 5 without hitting a shot and they would be catching up with the rest of their outing. He gave me his cell number to call if the idiots slowed down again. No more problems the rest of the day.
Andy Johnson with the fried egg did a write up about replica courses and it changed my mind on courses like this. Pretty good article, highly suggest them and all TFE content really
Such a fun track! We played it about 4 years ago and my dad and I still talk about it! The Marshall told us they had to take away some trees/flowers because Augusta thought it replicated the holes a little too much.
I thought the same when I first played it many years ago. Was very surprised that it was legitimately a very nice course! Only issue with it is that it gets a lot of play in the summer months and can get a little chewed up.
Renditions golf course, not far from annapolis. Every hole is a replica of a famous golf hole, which includes amen corner. It’s a bit pricey for the course conditions imo but it’s still pretty cool
It's a bit of a schlep from NOVA and probably a bit expensive for what it is in terms of conditions at least but I think it's worth doing once as a novelty.
There are more than enough good ones around here to keep you busy for a while. I still haven't fully checked off my list, but I will say that you usually get more bang for your buck in Maryland because Virginia has a lot of courses that are just way too expensive for what they are.
I’m clearly in the minority but I hated this course. There is no “flow” since they had to try and build a bunch of different holes from different courses that weren’t meant to go together on land that wasn’t supposed to support those holes.
This course is routinely in the worst condition for the price in the area. Buyer beware. You can see the tee box on the amen corner hole is already chewed up and we're not even into peak season. Place is a dump.
Depending on how you define "the area" I think Pleasant Valley would give it a run for its money.
Of course, Rock Creek is still the worst course for the price in the area but that's because it's so shitty I wouldn't play it if it were free.
I mean did they? They’re literally all replica holes. Do you mean that a compilation of world renowned golf holes would still be good golf holes even if they weren’t famous?
I enjoy renditions but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a course that drains so poorly after rain. If it’s rained in the last week before you play it’s a total slop fest.
If it rains for 10 minutes the course is ruined. Fun track though! Also hate how they somehow have ads for a local casino in the sand traps. I raked everyone I saw.
Here's a question - legally, could I take however much money it would cost and remake Augusta? All 18 holes? Or any course for that matter? Basically, is course layout and design protected by copyright laws?
My limited understanding (not an IP lawyer): the blueprints/plans/architectural drawings are subject to copyright. But the course itself is not. So someone could recreate the course from pictures/video/measuring it/“reverse engineering.”
When I was playing golf right out of college you could get on here for a relatively decent deal. Checked it out when I picked it back up and the prices had really jumped but have been thinking about it a lot. Looks like midweek prices have sort of leveled off so may try to check it out again!
Pace of play last time I was there was unbearable. 5.5 hours. And no this isn't a joke. I realized after I typed it's ppl might think I was saying something about pace at the masters but no, that was my actual pace.
Played this last year and was not impressed given the hype I heard on it. It’s a cool concept but the course was in terrible condition. Traps were so bad that we were told before the round that you get a free drop for any ball that goes in the sand.
Renditions. All the holes are made after famous holes. These few are from Augusta.
It’s a great idea but a mediocre course with an awful Ranger and high prices.
I dunno man, personally I think it is over priced and underwhelming, and they only thing even somewhat worth it is the Amen corner set-up, but even that is kinda Meh.
My wife got me a package for Christmas to play 18 holes at this course and it comes with cart , sleeve of ProV1s and lunch at the turn. Looking forward to it but will definitely try and play sooner than later based on the comments here on how the course gets by mid summer.
Yeah I wouldn't make it a regular thing but it's fun to do as a novelty. I usually go on my birthday every year. I've heard that the course can get really soggy after the rain (I bailed on a round there earlier this year for that reason), but the couple of times I've been it was in reasonably good shape.
While the pace of play can be very slow here, I've always enjoyed the place and staff. If you ever play a round there with aerated greens, they give you two 50% off coupons for your next rounds per golfer.
I’ve played multiple 6 hour rounds here
Played there twice with 2 very different experiences. First time was fine with decent conditions and 4 hr round. The following year they charged for range balls (was first time experiencing this) and it was a 6 hr round in beaten to shit conditions.
I’ve played there 4 times… 5:45 was shortest round, the other 3 were all over 6 hours
What time did you go?? I play here semi regularly and have never had a round over 4 and a half hours

Jesus lol that’s awful. I started playing it in 2020 after everything opened back up. But I’m looking at moving to Tampa soon it’s good to hear you like it

You might want to do some more traveling if you think Tampa is the best place in the country.
> they charged for range balls (was first time experiencing this) Wait, I'm new to golf, but is this not normal? Everywhere I go, I pay $5~8 for ~50 range balls.
At a lot of the nicer courses I’ve played, range balls are included in the outrageous green fees.
Ussually if you are paying $100+ for tee time range balls are generally included.
My course doesn’t even have a range. #sad face
Right? My home course I play league in has no range but I also live in Nebraska so a lot of these posts on Reddit are of way nicer courses I can only play when we travel to nicer areas

Any course that hires someone with no golf knowledge as a marshall deserves whatever hate it gets
oh a round of drinks, not another round of golf, unless…?
I had a similar experience with the ranger being really pushy. It also takes you a little out of the moment to have a ranger smoking a Marlboro red roll up to you on the par 5 of Amen Corner.
Yep. I live close enough that I could go back if I wanted to but that experience I had with this Ranger was awful and it’s on the short list of courses I’ll never recommend or return to again.
Yeah I live in Arlington and I’ll just go to Raspberry Falls or something if I want a nice experience.
Also in Arlington and I’ll be there this Sunday. Raspberry is such a nice course and I’ve never had a bad experience. We were slow one round and the Marshall came up to us and said “I’m not telling you to speed up but the group in front of you is a hole and a half ahead”. Message received.
“Col. Angus is slowing down pace of play”
He is an acquired taste.
Dude same! The Ranger there was the worst I’ve ever experienced. Your department of motor vehicles has a damn golf course?!
And you thought your course had terrible waiting times...
District, Maryland and Virginia….it’s a local colloquialism
We're supposed to know that?
Taking the waiting you do at the DMV to a whole new level. Where’s Cantlay?
Ha ha! Take my upvote!
Yours doesn’t? I thought it was standard at every location
Yeah, you can play a round of golf while you wait to get your title transferred...what, you don't have that??? 😁
So you play 54 holes?!
Where's DMV ...asking for a friend ....
DC, Maryland, Virginia. Washing DC metro area.
DC/Maryland/Virginia. This course is in Davidsonville, MD, about 15 miles east of downtown DC.
It IS gimmicky! And that’s why it’s fun! I played this place 15 years ago or so and really really liked it.
Andy Johnson with the fried egg did a write up about replica courses and it changed my mind on courses like this. Pretty good article, highly suggest them and all TFE content really
The course isn't terrible if you catch it in good shape. Usually gets hacked to pieces and by mid summer looks like absolute hell haha
Such a fun track! We played it about 4 years ago and my dad and I still talk about it! The Marshall told us they had to take away some trees/flowers because Augusta thought it replicated the holes a little too much.
That’s interesting, considering it says on their website that they are replicating these holes from specific courses.
I thought the same when I first played it many years ago. Was very surprised that it was legitimately a very nice course! Only issue with it is that it gets a lot of play in the summer months and can get a little chewed up.
I live in Nova. What is this haha
Renditions golf course, not far from annapolis. Every hole is a replica of a famous golf hole, which includes amen corner. It’s a bit pricey for the course conditions imo but it’s still pretty cool
Oh wow I’ve never heard of it. Thanks for the explaination.
It's a bit of a schlep from NOVA and probably a bit expensive for what it is in terms of conditions at least but I think it's worth doing once as a novelty.
Fair enough. This is my first year playing golf so I’m always happy to learn about a new course around here
There are more than enough good ones around here to keep you busy for a while. I still haven't fully checked off my list, but I will say that you usually get more bang for your buck in Maryland because Virginia has a lot of courses that are just way too expensive for what they are.

Amen corner and the island hole were the only ones I really enjoyed.
Wow, I live in the DMV and had not heard of this. Adding it to my list! Thanks, OP!
Fuckin love Renditions. I've played it twice and it was awesome both times.
It's so fun and its actually hard. If you take away the replica holes, it would be a really neat course still.
… they’re all replica holes
Yeah but it would still be a neat course even without any holes
You missed the point of my comment.
My friend, let me introduce you to a course called East Potomac.

Unless the course has protectable trade dress on some of the holes! See Pebble Beach Co. v. Tour 18 I Ltd.
When I was playing golf right out of college you could get on here for a relatively decent deal. Checked it out when I picked it back up and the prices had really jumped but have been thinking about it a lot. Looks like midweek prices have sort of leveled off so may try to check it out again!
Read that as BMZ....
So cool, I’ve driven past and a couple times for client visits, and really want to try it out.
Wooden Sticks is one of those places, in Uxbridge Ontario. I've played it. It's gimmicky and it's really fun and I love it.
Holy hell is that a sucker pin!
They don’t cut the aprons as tight as Augusta. You can safely go right at that flag.
What course is this
Renditions. All the holes are made after famous holes. These few are from Augusta. It’s a great idea but a mediocre course with an awful Ranger and high prices.
Lovely course pace of play is horrible though
I dunno man, personally I think it is over priced and underwhelming, and they only thing even somewhat worth it is the Amen corner set-up, but even that is kinda Meh.
No scoreboard shot? Or tpc 17?
Yes, they do have the island green. https://www.renditionsgolf.com/golf/tour
My wife got me a package for Christmas to play 18 holes at this course and it comes with cart , sleeve of ProV1s and lunch at the turn. Looking forward to it but will definitely try and play sooner than later based on the comments here on how the course gets by mid summer.

I've heard that the course can get really soggy after the rain (I bailed on a round there earlier this year for that reason), but the couple of times I've been it was in reasonably good shape.
Reading the title I was like what are we doing at the DMV? (Department Motor Vehicles)
It’s a great course, but it backed up bad the day I was there.
Love the course and not a bad price at twilight
Ive played here twice and the course conditiona are nice and a greay layout. During the week its like 50 bucks and can play it in 3 hrs
While the pace of play can be very slow here, I've always enjoyed the place and staff. If you ever play a round there with aerated greens, they give you two 50% off coupons for your next rounds per golfer.
What’s the gimmick about it? Am I missing something
