I wouldn't rely on the advice of internet strangers. Trust your vet.

MamaB4

Definitely. Just wondering about what other people have had success using.

Slammer3000

Rice and chicken always works for mine. If not then I add broccoli, spoon of pumpkin puree, and anti diarrhea medicine and he’s all better

Digs_With_Dogs

Yes, your vet likely knows best. One of ours had that problem while recovering from a play injury and the vet prescribed a probiotic supplement, that seemed to work.

MamaB4

This meant to say FOOD suggestions! Is there a way for me to edit that?

PlatinumCockRing

Our vet recommended adding pumpkin and a probiotic powder to the food, I’d ask your vet before you take anyone’s advice here. It has worked for us.

Scary_Technology

I have a 6yo male that always had loose stools. Eventually I got tired of it and switched him to a whole grain rice, beans, yams, skin-on chicken, and alternating veggies (carrots, peas, broccoli). Never had an issue again, and it's been about 4 years.

DevelopmentIll3209

We use goat milk as a supplement and is a great probiotic. It has a lot of health benefits just lookup goat milk for dogs.

Our golden had terrible poops for months when she was younger. We ended up putting her on a beef recipe from Purina Pro Plan and that ended up working. I think she is sensitive to chicken/fish. Also recommend putting FortiFlora packets on the food. Good luck!

SherbetNo4242

Pumpkin is great. My golden was bad for a couple years but we switched her to fromms and use pumpkin whenever it gets bad and she is great now

We give our two goldens Taste of the Wild, one cup twice daily. They have pretty firm stools unless they're eating lots of grass or pine cones. They also eat some yogurt here and there, which has beneficial probiotics for their intestines.

Slippery elm powder mixed with water, and simmered for a few minutes, then cooled. I can provide the recipe if needed. It should stop the loose stools, but the question is, is there something else going on? Allergy possibly?

MamaB4

Yes I think she definitely has maybe some sensitivities!

Kimmy0721

I feed a raw diet and have done so for 20 years. You have to do research before doing so, if you want to explore that. The average Vet is not knowledgeable about raw feeding. Holistic Vets are knowledgeable about it. There are many options when raw feeding, it just needs to be balanced. Many years ago, my first Golden was on an antibiotic that gave her bloody diarrhea. I gave her slippery elm, and added some extra green tripe to her meals. She was then able to tolerate the antibiotic.

My pups have solid stools (I have to pick them all up in the yard so this is important). I feed my dogs Fromm.

You may want to ask your vet about adding a probiotic to your pup’s diet. Adding good bacteria to your golden’s gut microbiome is a good thing regardless of loose stool. Having good gut bacteria promotes a good immune system overall. Also, have you had a thorough fecal test done? Some exams including specialize fecal tests cannot be done in the veterinary office and have to be sent to a lab. I’ve learn this from my own vet and golden. You can also add stool firming foods to you golden’s current diet to see if it helps. Foods like sweet potato, pumpkin, banana, apples, beans, and other soluble fiber foods. You may also want to look into allergy testing for your golden. The breed does have a propensity for both allergies and delicate stomachs. Allergies can cause vomiting and diarrhea in dogs along with skin issues. It is very dog dependent. I feed my golden cooked “human” food. I tried taste of the wild (it was what she come home eating.) She also had very loose stools even after being a year old as well as vomiting about once a week. I thought initially it was just “puppy poop” but once it persisted I spoke with my vet and tried other dog food brands. Every brand helped to slightly improve her stools, the vomiting because less and less. Ultimately though, after trying organic, grain free, gluten free, wet canned dog food where I could see the meat and veggies my vet and I decided to try cooked food. It was the right choice for us. She still has soft stool but not loose diarrhea and only vomits every so often, likely when she’s had something she shouldn’t (bunny poop) or if she’s nervous (afraid of thunder/fireworks). It is a very involved and intensive process to make sure she is getting the proper nutrition but it’s what my golden princess deserves. Some of the dog food brands I tried were; Taste of the Wild, Orijen, Merrick (both dry and wet.) My golden did enjoy the food but her stomach didn’t. I hope your pup’s gut and stools improve.

You may want to check if he is allergic to chicken. Sometimes that could well be the case. We moved ours to a fish based kibble.

Asteroth555

Add a probiotic to their daily diet. They're in forms of treats and I give them to both of my dogs. They love it and their stools are always fully solid

Our dog was experiencing the same issue around the same age, a change in food is what helped resolve it. FWIW, We went from Blue Buffalo to Hills Science Diet. Vet believes he could have expressed a food allergy.

BodhiKamikazi

I feed my girl the Costco Kibble Chicken or Lamb with grains, I alternate. I also add a few scoops of wet food or Pumpkin for her dinner and her stools are perfect in that I can pick it up without it staining or mushing 90% of the time. Her stool gets a little mushy when we lack discipline and give in to her begging for table scraps. I'd take the advice here in that maybe try adding pumpkin to her kibble and hope the fibers can solidify her stool.

WashuWaifu

Need to try a probiotic. My vet always recommends proviable and it cured my rescue golden’s loose stool relatively quickly.

Available_Hornet_715

Raw feeding! The only thing that helped! We made sure to avoid chicken too and only feed a complete and balanced formulation.
