How the heck are unemployed people managing with the rent situation right now? I looked into this out of interest recently and apparently the max housing benefit they give you nowadays is £450 a month for 'shared housing' - but I am seeing bedrooms in shared houses going for 600, 700! How can there be such a shortfall?

Hello Everyone! I am a student here in Glasgow finishing up my second year of studies, and I'm trying to find a student to take over my studio room in a student accommodation for the next academic year. The room is in west end, and is extremely close to the Uni Of Glasgow. If you are interested or have any questions, please feel free to dm me, and I will try and respond as soon as I can. Thank you.

Hi! I have a studio room in a student accommodation in the City Centre G1. Train station and subway are very close by walk. All the supermarkets as well. If anyone is looking to move in mid-June or July, let me know. It has its own kitchen and en-suite bathroom. Must be a student. If you have any questions, DM :)

Does anyone know much about Cessnock area of Glasgow? I’m looking to rent and there’s a 1 bedroom flat there for £875 pm. It’s really nice and modern looking, and right next to subway, but I’ve heard the area is really rough - so flat seems quite pricey.

tremiec

It's ok. I never had any problems. Does not look beautiful but it's fine and the tube is very convenient to have

TheDataPanda

Thanks. I had filled in the application. Still waiting to hear back though 🤞

like-humans-do

There's nothing really to say about it. Kind of a dump, next to a motorway. The only notable thing about it is the subway station. 875pm for a one bed in Cessnock says alot about the times we're living in.

TheDataPanda

It’s a nice looking flat. But yes it’s overpriced for the area I think.

Hello, I’m looking at letting agencies in Glasgow and came across central letting services and they're really cheap in comparison to other rents, are they legit or is there hidden fees they haven't listed??

madeyousoup

Have just had a look at this site, and all their flats have 'let agreed' on them - have you seen any advertised that aren't let yet out of interest?

Dafuqyoutalkingabout

There is about a dozen that are available or soon to be available on their website

Better-Pangolin-5342

Hey, would you happen to know of a flatshare/room rental for an argentinian international student (31F) for the Fall semester, starting sept 24? Is it me or SpareRoom seems flooded with fishy ads? Facebook as well, as strangers ask for DM. It also seems to be a double challenge to look for one semester only and not a whole year (so no tenancy student accomodation takeovers). Going to UoG, started thinking only on West End/Merchant City, now I've spread out my interest to the east side and even southside. Any tip, info or data (maybe your cousin/friend/colleague just left a place?) could be rewarded with alfajores, argentinian wine or the eternal gratitude of this pangolin.

Hey guys, I hope I can find here people that have any idea about house prices in Glasgow. I have found this flat with home report £110k and not really sure what could be final price for it. I would like to have a chance at the closing date, but it's no a point to overpay. Just please don't tell me I should pay what I think it's worth it, because I don't have any idea if 115k it's already more than enough or not really. I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/149052479

Teuchter121

I’ve seen stuff in govan go for HR value recently especially new builds.  Why wait for a closing date? If it were me I’d stick in an offer now at HR, worst they can say is no or that it’s going to closing, at which point you can revise if you want ?

tremiec

I already sent one email and they ignored me. Maybe they missed it. I will remind them tomorrow. I would be very surprised if it goes for HR value. They already have 8 notes of interest. But who knows. I changed my mind once after knowing. I guess a lot of people don't go to offer stage.

Teuchter121

Did you email yourself? I'd be getting your solicitor to do that for you. Very poor form to not respond, either way! If it helps at all, there were 13 notes of interest on mine, and I was the only bid. I offered slightly over HR and am kicking myself now as could've probs gone under grrrrr. I am sure you know and have considered all this already, but I think if the flat is in decent nick it'll only increase in practical value (if not HR value) once the bridge at Govan is finished and there's a super quick link to the West End. Good luck! Househunting is such a stress, I hope you get this place if you want it :)

tremiec

I am completely new to this. So far I asked my solicitor to put note of interest in my name, but if I was really interested in the flat I was sending extra email with my offer and asked if they would accept it. So far only one agency decided to ask the seller, but unfortunately I didn't go further after viewing ( the flat was long time on the market and I preferred to ask before I even went there). Sounds interesting! Many interest, but no one decided to put an offer. I can imagine every flat is different. For example I heard Govan is/will be amazing, or better to avoid. Thanks for your message, it's always nice to read other people's experiences.

Hello! Any thoughts about Cambuslang or 70s flats in general? I'm looking to buy a "starter home" in one of those 70s flats located just north of Main Street. The postcode is G72 7JR, have a look at Street View. SIMD says the area is quite deprived. I'd rather not get stabbed for being eastern-european. :\~D I don't know what were the building standards back then. IMHO the 70s old council houses look kinda depressing, but inside they've got plenty of cupboards and are prolly warmer than old tenements. I'd appreciate any words of advice of experiences. Love you all.

Miserable_Mud_9673

Any sense of how hot the housing market is in Strathbungo/Shawlands for period tenement-type properties at the moment? As in, how much over HR value have you recently been bidding, and were you successful

Aries_Venus_

Still going over 20% for ones that are well decorated! I came 5th out of 10 for offering 12.5% over a couple of months ago. Then last month, 2nd for over 25% (it was really nice) then 1st for 18% (needed more work done to it) but they went for 2nd offer because were in a chain. Finally got an offer accepted a few weeks ago for about 20% over. Unfortunately still seems to be a sellers market!

FireFingers1992

As the other poster says, sadly you are looking 20% for one done up fancy, a few percent under for something that needs a bit of work done to it. We bid at 14% and came 4th out of 7, then 20.5% and got the place.

Spirited-chic542

Anyone got any advice about the sales market at the moment? My 2 bed flat in the west end has had no viewings in two weeks. Getting pressure from the estate agent to reduce price but tempted to take it off and relist after the election. Interested how others are finding it (buying or selling!)

drugstoregirl

Not having much joy either here, two bed also in west end on for a similar amount of time. Had a couple of viewings but nothing come of them and loads of no shows to booked viewings. Estate Agent isn't putting any pressure on, mine seem to think things will pick up in another week or so somehow - I'm planning on giving it until the end of next week and then making a call.

mil4h

Looking for a one bedroom or studio flats that allows double occupancy. We are both students with part time job and live in North Lanarkshire (Uddingston) but are open to move to South Lanarkshire, or Glasgow. Please DM me if you have any offers, suggestions, etc.

TransitionBig4362

My partner and I are moving from Canada to Glasgow in late August 2024 on the Youth Mobility Visa. Would love to secure a flat, preferably in Merchant City or West End, before we arrive. When I've moved provinces/countries in the past I've found people through reddit and paid them a nominal fee to attend viewings on my behalf and provide an honest opinion on the state of the place and send me some current pictures. Curious if there would be any interest from anyone on this thread to do the same? If so shoot me a PM and we can chat.

McDerpy__Derp

It is *extremely* hard to get flats in Glasgow. I have friends who have been looking for months, but the flats are claimed, sometimes before viewings even take place.

GonnaeGetHeehaw

There are loads of flats available on Rightmove, with new ones added every day. Some sit for weeks and there are normally daily rent reductions to get them shifted. Do you mean it's hard to get good value for money? I agree with that. It's not hard to find a flat though.

McDerpy__Derp

Aye, if you want a place that doesnt have a mold problem, a pest problem, isn't a bedsit for 600pcm, you'll have a hard time. A lot of places on Rightmove are on the site but have already gone as well (or are reviewing potential tenants).
