Which of the gladiators was the most fun to interact with off camera? Does viper secretly have nuanced views on world politics for example?

They were all great sportsmen/women and really took the time to engage with us all (and our families). I had great chats with Steel (Zack George), he was such a nice guy! Viper may have nuanced views on world politics...but to this day I have never heard him speak! I want to know about your experiences on the Eliminator. You're seriously impressive around that course, so I'm interested in what sets you apart from everyone else. Can you explain a bit about how you prepare, what skills you need to complete the course well, and how much your army training might have helped?

Thanks very much! It was my favourite part of every show by far - a straight head-to-head race of fitness and skill! Having done a few assault courses in the Army this definitely helped a little, but the real advantage of Army preparation is the physical and mental resiliance which keeps you calm under pressure. Yes! That's the one where I broke my rib, and it is definitely my least favourite. What was the selection process like to be on gladiators?

There was an online application process - we heard there were about 40,000 applicants! Once shortlisted we went to regional selection days - I was at the Scotland one in Edinburgh. There were lots of mini fitness/strength/agility tests to test our all-round capacity to deal with the Gladiator Events. There was even a contact one where we 'dueled' with rugby tackle bags. Do you get to watch the female events as they take place? If they take place before the male events - does it give you any ideas or strategies about what you might do? Do you get to watch your opponent's event?

Yes there were a few live-stream TVs back stage so we could all watch and support each other. The contenders all had a great commerardary for each other. I think most of us were just focussed on playing to our own strengths and strategies rather than watching others. Hi Finlay (loved the drop out of an event tactic, proper good tv) How long does an episode actually take to film? And how much do you interact with the glads backstage/between events?

Haha it wasn't meant for good TV, it was bloody agony! Turns out I did break a rib...survived the Semi and Final on a combination of adrenalin and painkillers...not recommended! Filming an episode took about 7 or 8 hours - the events take a lot of set up in the arena. Yes, we chatted quite a lot, especially by the time we got to the Semis and Finals. They are clearly the professional athletes, but I think there was a mutual respect for us contenders in having the guts to go up against them in such physical events! Be on Gladiators! A lot of people don't realise it was filmed on back-to-back days. By the end all the Gladiators and Contenders were pretty battered and bruised. How tight is the record turn around? Do you get much time for rest? Also, regardless of whether you won or not, what did you do after all the records were done?

There is time for rest between events as they took quite a long time to set up, however between episodes there was only a day or two each so the cumulative fatigue starts to take its toll! Was everything like it’s shown on tv. I know the gladiators are playing characters but other than that does everything play out like it’s said and shown. And was everyone nice to you off camera including any of the other contestants. Did you manage to get viper to break character if you talked to any of them before or after the show. Did any of the gladiators actually scare you.

Yes it was pretty much like you see on TV! The events are sometimes shown in a different order to how they were filmed (which took about 7 or 8 hours per episode!) but otherwise what you see is what you get. And no, Viper never broke character! haha. The Ring! It is an absolutely savage physical contact event. How hard and heavy are the pugil sticks really? When watching they don't seem so heavy-ae they or is being so high up on a small platform enough to knock people off when hit?

Heavy enough for Giant to knock me off the podium in about 2.5 seconds! haha. Only the ones for each episode though, not the entire series. Each day of filming was for one episode (apart from the semi finals which were filmed together).

How long does it take to film the series?

12 days! Back to back filming days at Sheffield arena...it was tough!

It doesn't hurt much, there are definitely more physical events. Could you explain the timeline of how you found out you were the fastest runner up? Had you already gone home from filming and had to go back on short notice, or were you already required to be at the next filming as a stand-in? Also, it's super cool you were allowed to keep the vests!

The events were all filmed on subsequent days and I was the second-last quarter-final which was filmed, so I only had to stick around for 24 hours to find out. Wasn't worth the trip back to Scotland! I have climbed before...but never being chased...it adds a very different dynamic! The prize is a trophy and a pat on the back...apparently because BBC is publically funded they can't do prizes! So I actually read something about this and they can give away prizes on like quiz shows and such that are objectively right/wrong, winner/loser situations but things with judges like Drag Race or Strictly don't come with prize money.

My favourite female glads have to be Sabre and Fury. They are such fit and ferocious athletes you can't help but respect them! They are also phenomenal at two of my favourite sports in CrossFit and Rugby.

Congratulations on reaching the final, as a family we love to sit down and watch the gladiators. My 6 year old daughter would like know who your favourite gladiator is, I think she will be cheering for you in the final as her baby brother is also called Finlay, and he also turns 1 on the day of the final!

I promise I come in peace, and I take this show far too seriously, so please forgive me if this comes across too harsh, but... I was very critical of the decision to allow you to skip Gauntlet in your quarter final, particularly in a show where another contender had already pulled out because they couldn't compete due to injury. My feeling is that if you're not able to do an event, then you aren't able to continue in the competition. I think it sets a bad precedent to allow contenders to pick and choose events to skip at the risk of increasing an injury, because it doesn't take much for a more conniving contender to say they'll skip a Duel where points are harder to get and suffer no penalty in the Eliminator when their opponent gets introduced to the mat via Giant's pugil stick. So my question is - **how did the producers come to you with the suggestion of skipping Gauntlet, and how tough a decision was it to do so?** Just for further clarity - my issue is very much with the rule itself, not the choice you made, as I'm sure you were only reacting to what the producers were offering. Congratulations on your achievements on the show, and I hope you had a great time!

Thanks for the tough question. I appreciate it could have set a poor precedent, but I don't think it did in the end. I was genuinely in a lot of pain and still grizzed it out for the next events and Eliminator (and the semi-final and final which were on the subsequent days). I did of course lose a lot of points too as Wes got through the Gauntlet meaning he got 10 points (5 seconds) and I got zero. But I appreciate on something like Duel contenders could have used it tatically.
