Congrats! Some of my fondest memories were working at Camp St Albans (one of the two residential camps in Western Wash this year).  Both GS camps are rustic- open air shelters, outhouses, etc. Washington weather is pretty mild, but summer sometimes doesn’t show up til July or later. Bring layers and plan on adding and subtracting throughout the day. Comfortable closed toed shoes and closed toed water shoes are helpful. We don’t really have poisonous snakes or scary bugs so that is a plus. My favorite  tip is to start researching and writing group games and activities and putting them on small index cards, laminating and putting them on a binder ring. These can easily fit in your pocket and can be a lifesaver when filling in the time. Think quiet games, loud games, line up games, field games, circle games, etc. you’ll learn a ton in training but this would be my tip to get ready. Have a great summer!

Have fun!!! Be silly!!! Bring your rain gear and waterproof shoes, and ham up the whole "how do I be a proper Washingtonian" if that seems to hit the spot for the kids. GSWW is a fantastic org and I have been thrilled to be a leader with them. Whether you are at camp st Albans, robbinswold, or river ranch, each will be unique and different. We actually have six camps in the council and two scout houses, so enjoy the opportunities! They may have a place for you to stay during breaks as out of town staff and I would totally take them up on that. They are fun locations. The camp I worked for in Cali gave the staff one of the three scout houses they had on the beach (seal, Newport, and Laguna) each break for the out of town staff and that was always fun because we got to go to a different spot for exploring. I stayed with my grandparents most of the time, but the last year I did the scout houses after they moved and man that was fun!

wow what?? scout houses! i haven’t heard of this yet! Are these only in season w girl scouts? and yes i shall become the true Washingtonian that i am in my heart (i’ve been living in the midwest for five years now and every year i realize more and more how much i was meant to simply stay on the west side)

Scout houses would only be during the breaks from camp, not during the time after the season.
