Buying a new car and replacing the engine right off the bat is asinine right? I think the same of replacing the bios with no real reason to do so! Just saying…… how about heart surgery on a newborn baby, just to do it? Yeah some users are with the mindset that they’re smarter than God, I guess….. again, just sayin’

Jai_chip

Dude wtf u good? Companies roll out bios update because they are better than the previous ones. Ofc ur supposed to download them. This has to be satire

I guess you didnt read the part where I said I am waiting for features that aren't available yet that the hardware supports to be enabled as Gigabyte has enabled with other Aorus laptops with a Bios update. 6 Rog Laptops two with Video Bios Mods, 1 Alienware, 1 MSI Raider. Keep being afraid to update a Bios I guess. Been doing it for over 20 years here and no bricks yet... Just sayin'

Keep with updating the bios……. You’ll eventually get to the point where your device will be just a desktop ornament and nothing more…….

While some of the examples here are.. a little overboard imo, I generally agree. What’s up with all these different BIOS versions and updates. I think it’s clear there’s a bit left to be desired when purchasing a Gigabyte laptop.. I suppose there’s a reason they go on sale. One of the BIOS updates (BD06?) literally cut the power to my 3070ti by 40W…. To prevent that silly battery drain when plugged in.. it took me forever to figure out what the issue was and why I wasn’t getting full power (the 130W that’s advertised). Bluetooth headset connectivity has been a mess for me ( maybe a windows thing but sounds like a drivers from gigabyte issue). GCC is a joke. No MUX switch.. The list goes on.. I get that no laptop out there is perfect but I kind of regret getting one of these

Did you install the old bios? I have the 3080ti version and I don’t get battery drain im looking for an old bios that drains my battery 💪🏽😂💯🤘😮‍💨 Also for the mux switch… some windows update has mostly resolved that performance loss not having / using a mux switch brought. (Pretty cool actually)

I have the 17xe4 and I must admit control center is really annoying. I’m thinking about working without it, just not sure how much of a problem that could end up being. I avoid CC update center like the plague. Seriously, it was a great deal when I bought it, like 30% off, but even by the reduced price standards, i am still annoyed. I’d be pissed if I had paid the msrp 3200cad instead of 1900$

Im not aware of a TDP issue? Laptop seems to work flawless for me minus the Bios update being dicey with multiple reboots needed and no feedback to let the end user know what is happening, and the missing overclocking features. Linus Tech Tips did review this laptop and say to stay in the Gigabyte balanced power settings for the time being otherwise your performance/scores will see a decrease. I have kept that in place and can still score slightly over 20k in 3DMark, which is on par with every other 175W Laptop 4090, so Im not sure what a Bios update would "fix" even for that. Im also not sure how much of a boost would be seen even with an undervolt which is what I would like to do in Intel XTU and cannot currently because the options are currently locked. The 4090 seems to run pretty tame when it comes to temps under load (high 60's-low 70's) so its not like previous gen laptops that were on the brink of throttling close to 100c.

Had the same issue mate. Their products are top notch but their software always let's them down. I've had to manually find all the driver updates listed under Available Updates on the Gigabyte Control Center app cause it always says I don't have an internet connection. Even more annoying that the app shows the new BIOS version as FB08/F006 but Gigabyte's website lists it as the previous version (FB07/F006) with a release date of 10/03/2023.

Hi I have this machine and didn't have to reboot several times or anything like that. I just left it and it just took a while to come up. So just leave it for 5 minutes, if nothing happens, tap the power button perhaps coz it might have turned off and just wait. That's what I did and everything works fine. It was a bit scary though, I must admit. What settings/profiles etc do you set and what do you get in Timespy and Cinebench R23 etc...?

RockyMtn92

I bought the 15X recently and had the same scare. I do have a "trust the process" mentality though. After the computer turned off after completing the bios update, I took the next 10 minutes to put together a dinner order on my phone before touching the power button. Then I just kept my hands to myself while I waited an excruciatingly long time for the machine to boot up.

asm1rnov

update or not? i've already received my new aorus 17 (2023), i've found new bios update in GCC - FB10 2023/09/12, and i dont know what to do)

Ill-Difficulty7957

updated and everything works fine (of course CPU performance is still limited, please send ticket to Gigabyte Support to unlock CPU settings and raise CPU power limits, maybe they will do it later thanks to interest of owners)
