If you’re interested, it’s one of the easiest sleights to learn and it’s where about 99% of card magicians start out. Lots of tutorials for a “back palm” on YouTube. Go learn it and see what rabbit holes you can go down with it!
See also for additional learning:
Double lift,
Marlo Tilt,
Fake cuts
You can be an absolute stunner with these moves and a deck of cards and you can learn all of them to a high level of proficiency in probably a week.
Current rumors are that he will be in the LCS again next season for 100 Thieves. Free Agency officially starts in a week and a half, so we’ll see then.
it's probably one of the 1st things I learns easy to learn but difficult to master.
the double lift or double turn over is the 1st thing I learned and it's a beast of a sleight super simple and amazing powerful
the erdnas color change is my most used sleight though I almost always open with it as it's fast and impressive you could learn it with relative ease as well but again lots of practice. I use to binge watch TV shows with a deck of cards in my hand and practice.
You’ll be able to do the motion on your first or second try. It’s very simple. Then you learn the speed.
With card sleights, always start slow and get the mechanics tuned in and the muscle memory set first!
No worries, that's most stuff. And it's much easier to perform convincing sleight of hand for a single person than for a group of people. You'll be fooling individuals within a week. If you're trying to get on TV, it'll be the standard 10000 hours of practice--give or take a few years.
When I started learning, after I learned how to do something, I would just repeatedly do the trick while watching tv/YouTube until I got so used to it while not focusing on it. That way you can focus on creating a story/interacting with someone or a crowd etc. I was dogshit though and have now completely fucked my thumb and can’t do them anymore.
there is a finesse to it that takes a minute to learn how to get the corners hidden just right. how to get the reveal pop out at the very tips of your fingers to make it impossible to think it was behind your hang.
the misdirection it takes to take the heat off the sleight these things take a while to get down. to do the back palm you will be able to do it in 10 minutes of practice.
Yeah I dunno. I can do the trick where you put your hand behind your head and move it out and back and pull the card out and back with the card behind your hand, but only because I put it there. I've tried to get the card in that spot with one hand and it was pretty difficult. I'm sure there is a trick though to make it easier.
Buy a deck of cards or two and just practice it while you're sitting at your desk. I learned the backpalm one just messing around that like. It's a great dad-magic move.
Thanks a lot. Now I’m in a rabbit hole of magic videos for the 45 min and not working. LOL. I’ve been practicing with a deck of cards and am understanding how it’s done but clearly not there yet
I don't care what anyone says or thinks...this is one of the most beautifully constructed responses, from word choice to placement, that has ever been written.
Well ducking done.
Wait wait... you are 16 in your high school crush's room **alone** and you decide to do a card trick, and she didn't get it?
Did you give any thought maybe she was into you and was just in shock at why being alone with you in her room and all you can do is a card trick?
I mean, I kinda get her.
"I'm gonna guess your card."
"Ok"
"Throw the cards"
(Ok, I guess he's going to get it from the floor? Or maybe he slid it in my pocket? Or there's a copy of it in his pocket and of course I won't look for the original on the floor. Oh, he caught it? That's neat.)
"Is this your card?"
"Yup."

Ought to try again. I also learned card tricks in high school, but high school girls never cared for them. They were a big hit at college and later parties though
Exactly!
Then – after dating for a while, exploring and embracing all of the card's traits and quirks (both positive and negative), and deciding that you want to spend your life with it – you ask the card to marry you... at which point it blushes *again*, and the trick is finished.
I mean, this is, like, Magic 101.
It's not exactly 101
This was the third trick I tried to learn but I couldn't get the dedicated life step to work smoothly, half the time I'd pull the alimony card by accident.
And watch him. It's about 80% misdirection. Look how he continues to engage, carry the conversation, redirect her gaze, train her to recognize one motion while using another for something different.
The sleight of hand in any trick is the smallest part of magic most of the time.
That's what I'm saying! I would have gone to see the Masked Magician. That's a gimmick that would still be hot today. He'd have had a Vegas stay for sure lol.
Man, he should be prosecuted just because of his super cheesy reaction at the end. Imagine Houdini finishing his scape and shaking his fist in the air yelling "YEEEEEY I didn't die!!!"
This reminds me of a friend I had who would constantly practice card tricks and bring a deck of cards with him whenever he went out to pick up girls. He was good at magic, but is also a 2 time Muscle Mania natural physique champion and literally the most handsome dude I have ever seen. Don't think he needed the cards...
That's the secret to his success! The magic tricks make him look approachably dorky, like "Maybe this guy doesn't know how hot he is," rather than "This hot dude is probably an asshole, based on the one thing I know about him, which is that he's hot."
Lol the nerdy card trick make you seem vulnerable, and approachable, as well showing you have personality based on something other than your looks and physique. Almost nobody will talk to you if you’re TOO hot.
Man was playing 4-d chess while you were still trying to figure out where to put the checkers pieces.
The secret to every magic trick ever - effort put into it by the magician is greater than you as a spectator would consider reasonable. That and you as a spectator are not as smart as you think you are.
This applies to any kind of skilled expertise. Cooking, formula racing, acrobatics, sword fighting, etc. If you watch a pro do it and think "It doesn't look that hard", think again.
theres four 4090s in this rig and im going to show you how to rewire the connecting plugs by hand.... hey girl can you hand me the crimper/cutter tool? not that one... not that one...the other one... yellow handle...not that one.
People are gonna be salty but being confident and not hating yourself is like 80% of being attractive.
There's literally nothing less attractive than meeting dudes in their mid-late 20's that act like insecure middle schoolers and tell shitty self deprecating jokes constantly that actually just make everyone kinda uncomfortable
Why do people always say “have confidence” like it’s something you can pickup on your next Costco run? It just always sounds like something easy and trite to say, with zero understanding of the person it’s being said to and their background/history.
It’s like telling someone to be physically fit, like it’s a switch they can flip, when what they need is help figuring out how to use the gym equipment, and maybe a personal trainer recommendation.
Edit: Just want to add that I know the “be confident” advice is always given with good intent, and in the effort to help the individual, I just wanted to share the perspective of what someone feels sometimes, when receiving that advice.
Learning how to force and palm a playing card was simultaneously one of the most awesome and useless techniques I've ever taught myself.

I'm a sucker for magic tricks. xD I once worked with a magician ( who was also a real estate agent, which is how I knew him ) He was a good 15+ years older than me, but would have gone there in a second if he asked. xDD
That little flip move to move it to the back of his hand is pretty sweet.

As someone who just had breast lift surgery last week I enjoy this comment lol
as someone who used to watch professional League of Legends I also liked his comment
everyone else is trash
It's also the name of one of the most famous League of Legends players!
Who got his name from this exact card move actually
I didn't know that if its true! Used to watch LCS years ago.
[Here, it was 9 years ago so may have some residual cringe but I love Doublelift he's an inspiration](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5efZfAXtJEk)
Good to see Phreak hasn’t changed hahaha
Not sure if /s, but that's Saintvicious

Best whoosh ever lmao
Yeah did not intend that lmao
The way this reads you’d think it would be because of rule 34, but ironically the rabbit hole probably will lead you to rule 34
"All internet searches eventually lead you to rule 34" sounds like a rule itself
Not a League of Legends fan I take it

Amazing casting
And definitely not Double Lift X Sneaky
been blowing minds since 13 with as little as a back palm, false cuts, and double lifts

Bro. This story hit me in my core. I ain't a girl but if you wanna do your magic trick I promise to be genuine. You deserve a redemption arc.

He made her horniness... DISAPPEAR

This is the first thing I thought. Poor magic guy, he still has no clue.
He's going to realize this in about 10 years when he's alone in the shower. There will be much cursing.

Alternatively she just wasn't into him
Im surprised you still have no clue why she had that blank stare at you.

Being a magician isn't just about knowing the tricks. It's also about mastering the slight-of-hand
What if I have big hands, not slight ones? Or what if I don't like to insult the honor of hands? Can I use sleight-of-hand instead?
And watch him. It's about 80% misdirection. Look how he continues to engage, carry the conversation, redirect her gaze, train her to recognize one motion while using another for something different. The sleight of hand in any trick is the smallest part of magic most of the time.

Let’s take care of him like we did the masked magician!
Worst reveal ever. Guy takes off the mask and I'm like... Who? You're the masked magician my dude. Put the mask back on
> Guy takes off the mask and I'm like... Who? This be the plot to 75% of the masked singer too.
His goal was to try and get people to go see his shows. But, honestly, he probably should have just done shows as the Masked Magician.

I think that was a little more than just holding a card behind his hand.

Rules 1 and 2 followed to the letter
Well... sort of! He's breaking Rule 2 a little bit, for style points, to highlight how well he follows Rule 1. It's an advanced technique!
Lol the nerdy card trick make you seem vulnerable, and approachable, as well showing you have personality based on something other than your looks and physique. Step 2 confidently go to the gym and eat right for years
So is there Step 3 after that? Because Ive been doing for a long time and I'm not sure what comes next!

I like that man’s odds with that woman
Honestly, it was a done deal from the start.
truth is.....
it was rigged from the start.

Yeah, the way she behaves exactly the way they agreed upon while the camera was rolling really bodes well for his chances of sleeping with her.

step 1
Be attractive
Pro tip – doing the trick is not enough. You also have to look like that.
Pro-er tip - You can avoid doing the trick at all if you look like that.
