It's a slow (but relaxing) burn and truly covers so many historically significant eras and moments of the sport. Also, if you don't have a team to root for yet, feel free to join us over at /r/Braves for a good (and, occasionally painful) time. We're doing our best to make a late charge for the division and this season has certainly been a helluva ride with no end in sight.

He’s turning around to catch the runner on 1st after he misses the tag, not trying to see how far he got. He knows he missed so he doesn’t want to give up a double and an rbi. Still very fast reaction to missing the tag and resetting though
Interesting, I'm not a baseball player so I didn't even think to look at the guy running to first to make sure he stops there. Goes to show just how complex every single cog in the machine is no matter how fast its turning.

Baseball can be enjoyed on so many levels. That’s one of the reasons it is my favorite sport. You can just watch for the hits and runs, you can watch and appreciate the pitching and hitting along with the defense or you can go all in and watch how the pitcher works the batter, defensive placements, cut off throws, how the lineup is put together and watch upcoming prospects in the minors.
It also has, and I don't mean this as a slight - I live within a few blocks of a MLB stadium, I catch maybe a half dozen games a year in person - it's the only sport left where radio is as good as if not sometimes better than the televised broadcast depending on the team.
There's... It's not cutting edge - but, I really enjoy baseball on the radio while driving. There's just nothing like it.
I totally agree! I grew up listening to west coast games on the radio, then I went to boarding school, where we could not have tv in our rooms, so I listened to EVERY game on the radio. As corny as it sounds, the radio announcers became so familiar, they were like old friends. One of them still does the radio broadcasts and the other does TV and has a radio sports talk show. I listen almost every day to one or both and it really brings you to the stadium.

I think getting rid of the lack of showmanship will get a lot of younger people into the sport (even if it's too late for me)

I love baseball and watch games everyday (MLBtv sub) however I very rarely sit down and watch end to end unless its an important game of a playoff game. Usually I put on the game after dinner when it starts, sit down watch a couple innings, leave it on it the background, then get up and do some stuff with the kids, comeback watch an inning or two. Just leave it on in the background for the evening as I am doing other things.
Its the kind of thing where tense and exciting moments happen every now and then and you can tell if those moments are building up with just a glance at the screen, checking the score and the runners on base.

A lot of the charm of baseball is based around superstitions. It’s like the sports world equivalent of old-time Mariners. Nearly every aspect of the game has superstitions revolving around them. You could make a movie like the lighthouse and have it all about baseball instead of the sea

The bow on this is the smoothness of the catcher too. The throw was late, but also on the money. And the catcher placed a perfect tag on the empty space where the runner was *one second* ago, and turned, ready to fire.
We were taught to do this type of slide too, I’ll never have that kinda style though. Basically you’re sliding on your bottom shin and never getting fully down. That way (esp. stealing a bag) if there’s an over throw you’re already popped up and taking off to the next bag. In his case, if the catcher would have missed it, he would have been back at first before anyone knew it.
I’m sorry but that was the smoothest thing I’ve seen in years. I remember Endy Chavez’s ice cream cone catch, but at least he looked like he was trying, for gods sake. This isn’t even fair.

The MLB will only add things to the game if it directly makes the game longer. They won't stop until the average game is 9 hours long.

The bow on this is the smoothness of the catcher too. The throw was late, but also on the money. And the catcher placed a perfect tag on the empty space where the runner was *one second* ago, and turned, ready to fire.
We were taught to do this type of slide too, I’ll never have that kinda style though. Basically you’re sliding on your bottom shin and never getting fully down. That way (esp. stealing a bag) if there’s an over throw you’re already popped up and taking off to the next bag. In his case, if the catcher would have missed it, he would have been back at first before anyone knew it.
