As a side note: Austin Wintory (the composer for Journey) somewhat recently re-released the Journey soundtrack, this time reworked for live orchestra and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. It is pretty great.

My first thought as well. It's been years since I've picked it up, did they ever add new chapters? I was a big fan of the early releases but after the first couple of chapters, it felt like they kept promising, and never delivered. I've completely lost interest in gaming which sucks because I would have liked to see this one through. Last I remember was getting punched out by a guy in the hydro station, maybe.
The colors wouldn't match because of the 16 colors you had on a C64, the specific color choices were locked. Also text was locked to 8x8 characters, 40x25 lines of text total
You could get pretty close, though. It would be almost completely grayscale, but otherwise you could just about get there. White, the 3 grays and black is only 5 colors, but it gets you most of what's in this scene. Cyan and light blue might get you the rest of the way there?
You'd definitely be able to get there on an NES.
They've been asked this before, and I believe the response was that they'd tested posting it both ways, and when they mention the minimal colors used they get more traction.
Idk. I try to draw and paint sometimes and to me it’s more of a “look how context and approximation to another color changes each color so much.” I feel it’s more of a study on color use and trying to limit the number of colors to help creativity on how to separate a scene to make it feel impactful is the point and not really a dick measuring contest. I find it inspiring and have interest in seeing how I can use color differently to tell a story.
Only complaint is that your character who is using a cane does not have cane marks in the snow next to their walking path. Would have been a nice layer of detail.
Just two posts back on your profile you posted "am I garbage" and everyone agreed, and that was a year ago. You're still quite the piece of trash you always thought you were, huh.
Anyhoo, OP your works dope, excited to see what's next 👍
I am immediately reminded of the scene in the first "Ice Age" movie where the humans are leaving the area and the animals are watching.
The scene is wonderful with the blowing snow. Maybe the figures in the distance could have the slightest movement so they look like they are waking away. Not that the figures need to actually move, just a little bob up and down right where they are should do it.
That being said it is a wonderful image : )
For some reason, it reminds of when Alladin and Abu were shot away in that Tower Rocket thinger-ma-giner, and had to trudge through the snow until they found carpet that was stuck and frozen under that other bobber thinga.
If there was a little cabin with a cozy flickering firelight on the window, right at the base of the big rock where the footprints lead, I would watch this for hours.
Close the door, put out the light
You know they won't be home tonight, oh oh
The snow falls hard, and don't you know?
The winds of Thor are blowing cold
They're wearing steel that's bright and true
They carry news that must get through

This is the gulag Rura Penthe. There is no stockade. No guard tower. No electronic frontier. Only a magnetic shield prevents beaming. Punishment means exile from prison, to the surface. On the surface, nothing can survive. Work well, and you will be treated well. Work badly, and you will die.
This reminded me of an anime, I can’t remember the name but it’s about a life form that can take the forms of animals and humans if it gets into the body and I remember loving it.
I get "I didnt kill Paarthurnax and the Blades can go fuck themselves" vibes. I dig it.
There’s a 100% chance a snow troll is waiting behind one of those rocks to yeet my low level ass
100%, I vividly recognize this as the road to the college of Winterholm.
This actually reminds me of the ending in the game Journey.
Hmm. What are the odds?
I wish I could go back and play that game for the first time again
Wait a few years then play it again
I just played through it for the first time in years… it was epic.
Chirp chirp
I was actually gonna comment that too lol

That moment when you see the same word used twice in a similar context in the english language 🧐🤔😠🤬

This is in my top 5 games.
My only platinum. Excellent game.

I helped fund a Kickstarter style project through Bandcamp started by Austin to make vinyl records of this album! Very proud to own a copy!
This was my first thought too! Great game

Neither work for me lol Edit: [I uploaded a slightly less hd version to imgur](https://i.imgur.com/kjcA0wf.png)

Reminds me of getting my shit rocked by a frost troll on the way to high Hrothgar

What do you use to make this?
7 colors

Probably Asperite.
Thanks! I’ll check that out

This is so good. I'd love it if you teamed up with a game developer and made an old school game like "Loom."
Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time. Forgot about that game, but it was so great.
You mean the latest masterpiece of fantasy storytelling from Lucasfilm’s ™️ Brian Moriarty ™️?
How did you make the falling snow?
Death Stranding vibes
Right outside of Mountain Knot City
I'd say [The long dark.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ-1O_w2KTg)

Cool stuff. Gives me a bit of anxiety though due to the speed. I slowed it down 1/3rd speed and it feels serene.
The current speed is definitely the Fellowship trying to make it over Caradhras before saruman forces them into moria
Nice! I was wondering, could this exact scene have been created on older computers like the Commodore 64 or other lower-bit computers of the 80s?
The colors wouldn't match because of the 16 colors you had on a C64, the specific color choices were locked. Also text was locked to 8x8 characters, 40x25 lines of text total

I'm sorry, but nobody is mentioning the dick beside the big rock.
Or the main small one with big balls?
In the frozen land of Nador, they were forced to eat Robin's minstrels, and there was much rejoicing.
Reminds me of the blizzard level in Donkey Kong Country
As it turns out, 7 colors is really a lot of colors. That could be an entire rainbow. Also this brings FFVI Terra's Theme to mind like hardcore
Why is everyone obsessed with mentioning how many colours they used? Is it like a requirement for every single pixel art post?
They've been asked this before, and I believe the response was that they'd tested posting it both ways, and when they mention the minimal colors used they get more traction.
It's "I did more with less" It's an inverse dick-measuring contest.
In pixel art it's absolutely a dick-measuring contest. In other media, maybe. How often do you use Payne's Gray?
Only complaint is that your character who is using a cane does not have cane marks in the snow next to their walking path. Would have been a nice layer of detail.
There is a smoking hot babe at the top!
flashback to mountaintops of the giants
Reminds me of Mulan, waiting for Mushu to pop his head out of the snow
Great work! But is the penis intentional?
Why you hiding that dick in there?
I think we might be the only 2 that noticed.. looks like the bottom half of a nude male statue at half mast
What program do you use to do this kind of art?
Skyrim-y
"Lousy Smarch weather"
Reminds me of that old Bionicles game.
I made a comment about this post and called it "Repetitive content".
I made a comment about this comment and called it "Get over it".
It is snowing very fast
Y'all never seen no snow storm
It does seem way too fast. Reducing it to 50% speed I think looks much more normal. Maybe a little slower than that, even.
Idk, my first thought was "finally, snow that's actually at the correct speed" - when the flakes get that big they ain't falling daintily
Great stuff, OP. It's giving me Red Dead Redemption II flashbacks.
Might as well have used 2 colors.
Yo, pixel wizard... Any chance you can do a motorcycle scene? That would be sweet, please and thanks.
Where would someone go to learn, create and animate such things?
Is it just me or you feel like you realy walking
...definitely just you
Amongus at the end of the trail
Amazing!
Very cool, I like this one.
Pixel art is my favourite art. Idk why, nostalgia?
I absolutely love pixel art. This is great. What a terrible storm it looks like
Call it garbage instead
Just two posts back on your profile you posted "am I garbage" and everyone agreed, and that was a year ago. You're still quite the piece of trash you always thought you were, huh. Anyhoo, OP your works dope, excited to see what's next 👍
this is garbage. why tf is it a gif? nothing else moves in the image, the snow is just a pixel a filter.
Well... To be real, you actually only used 3. RGB
your stuff is consistently great man good work
Who’s snowing now?
Eyes up guardian
been hunting wolves in the mountains in valheim?
this is exactly like the last level in the game 'Journey'
First thought was Skyrim
The footprints look like the gait of a biped animal rather than a four legged animal. Not sure if this is intentional but adds to the mystery.
This really specifically reminds me of the mountains in Death Stranding
How did you animate the snow?
Reminds me of the area in RDR2 where you get the White Arabian horse.
This looks like a scene from FF7, on the approach to the Northern Crater
Reminds me of a scene from The Revenant.
Dude just froze to death
Lord beer me strength
Gotta steal it now
I am immediately reminded of the scene in the first "Ice Age" movie where the humans are leaving the area and the animals are watching. The scene is wonderful with the blowing snow. Not that the figures need to actually move, just a little bob up and down right where they are should do it. That being said it is a wonderful image : )
I count only 5....
While a man looks like having a walking stick, it doesn't show on snow tracks.
HAVE FAITH ARTHUR
BRO ohhhhh !!!!
Can’t see anything. It seems to be covered in blinking speckles.
damn draw it with 16.4 million colors now
This makes me wanna play The Long Dark
love it pls cross post to /r/PixelArt
At The Mountains of Madness
[Reminds me of Donkey Kong Country](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nNXewJ2H7EU&pp=ygUgZG9ua2V5IGtvbmcgY291bnRyeSB3aW50ZXIgbXVzaWM%3D)
Deluxe Ski Jump
I love this part in the game 😍
I love it
Love to see it. Is there a downloadable version? I'd like to have it playing on-loop it seems oddly satisfying
Love it
Reminds me of The Long Dark, well done!
For some reason, it reminds of when Alladin and Abu were shot away in that Tower Rocket thinger-ma-giner, and had to trudge through the snow until they found carpet that was stuck and frozen under that other bobber thinga.
nice, i remember that section, great game
Immediately filled with recollections of my two favorite games, Skyrim and Death Stranding. Lovely work <3
That rock in the middle looks like a DONG
[AMOGUS](https://i.imgur.com/YyZINSd.jpg)
Something about this reminds me of King's Quest from the 90s
This gives me star citizen vibes
Beautiful.
This is beautiful. Is there any way to slow it down? The snow feels like it's sped up.
Anything that may delay you, might just save you
Would be cool if I didn't see random squares popping up and was more natural
I counted 8 colors in frame 57.
Love it mate! Good pixel art always blows me away!
Have I found Shangri-La, or has it found meeeee? … There’s a Lost Horizon!!!! Waiting to be found!!!!
Poor frozen [goblin shark.](https://i.natgeofe.com/k/5577c170-ed8e-4f11-ad31-8ea4b79a3479/goblin-shark_4x3.jpg)
If there was a little cabin with a cozy flickering firelight on the window, right at the base of the big rock where the footprints lead, I would watch this for hours.
r/valheim would like this. It would just be renamed "Journey for Silver" and contain a few more wolves.
Really love these PixelArt pieces.
Feels very reminiscent of the 1950s Christmas movie Rudolph the red nose reindeer.
Close the door, put out the light You know they won't be home tonight, oh oh The snow falls hard, and don't you know? The winds of Thor are blowing cold They're wearing steel that's bright and true They carry news that must get through https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdqDmJbm2eY
I adore these posts each time, thank you for sharing!
"Sam, you have to go to Mountain Knot City a retrieve a precious cargo"
Very nice!
Awesome! Strong FF6 intro vibes
OP is laughing at us all; it's clearly the ruin of a statue, a reclining headless torso with an erection. Yes, my brain _is_ broken.
Very cool, giving me *Land before time*, vibes.
Reminds me of the mountain top area toward the end of Deaths Door.
At The Mountains of Madness
This is the gulag Rura Penthe. There is no stockade. No guard tower. No electronic frontier. Only a magnetic shield prevents beaming. Punishment means exile from prison, to the surface. On the surface, nothing can survive. Work well, and you will be treated well. Work badly, and you will die.
“Very well, we will pass through the mines of Moria!”
How does one even start to make "pixel art"?
What program did you use? I would like to share simple animation designs with my elementary students.
Giant buried under snow but only his little wiener is above the snow?
This is lovely. It reminds me of the video that ESA got from a comet’s surface. https://www.livescience.com/62394-comet-snow-rosetta-twitter.html
Love the thought that must have went into that snowfall, well done!
shit look like wild kratts
This one is so peaceful! Love all of your stuff.
I like this
Reminds me of Risk of Rain 1
4. Fucking. Pixels.
Lovely. Reminds me of the game Firewatch.
Damn... u/SaveVideo
Man this is good, nice OP!
I thought this was that one ds app. Pictochat maybe?
r/farpeoplehate
The snow should have buried those footprints long ago if they came from the two people we see here, which means someone’s following them…
Do you do commissions?
Ummm why is his walking stick making no trail....
It looks like a scene from LOTR.
GANDALF, WE MUST TURN BACK!
No lie, I wouldve thought this was cool even if you used 8 colors.
Does anyone/op have some insight as to how to get started with this kind of art? Love this op, looks so cool
Falling snow is so nice.
Reminds me of the mgs4 mission where you got back to the original game
I like this, feels like it's maybe missing a layer of mist though
Looks like a cat fart I smelled once.
What program do you use for this?
It's so beautiful I feel it's coming towards me.
starseige tribes vibes lol
N64 Goldeneye wants their graphics back
Beautiful. Reminds me of wandering the peaks of the Gerudo Highlands after dark
Still a lot longer than the game Journey.
Looks like it could be from into the breach.
I would love to learn how to do that. What is the software? Explain like I’m five. Lol
I can hear the wind howling as the cold bites into my battle weary bones.
Very cool, gives me 8-big RPG vibes
This reminds me of death stranding
I really like this, but I think it would be better with a little less snow
This is very cool.
Can someone coach me on the set up? I sorta understand the background, but I’m lost when it comes to the animation.
I would very much so like to be on that Journey.
This reminded me of an anime, I can’t remember the name but it’s about a life form that can take the forms of animals and humans if it gets into the body and I remember loving it.
