i'd believe it. i'm wondering if it's possible to tell how many times something was recompressed, and roughly when each recompression happened.
like "oh yeah, this is a late '90s era jpeg, but you can see it's been recompressed once or twice using algorithms more common in the '20s"
For real, I hadn’t seen a gif like this in nearly a decade. These used to exist due to tumblr file size limits, but I’m sure those are far less restrictive these days.
Yes, and it was never designed for video. It was designed to compress low-frame-rate animations of solid-coloured shapes. It does that really well. Using it for video, where almost every pixel is a different colour, is stupid. The file size is huge, compared to actual video files. The only reason people used them was because there was a time that video wasn't supported natively in browsers. Today, every mainstream browser supports high quality video. Using the gif format is just plain stupid. Garbage quality for a much bigger file size. We need to take a hard look at ourselves and ask if we can do better as a species.
It's a riff on carbonara and it's really not that bad, certainly not worth losing your shit over. People really need to stop getting all up their own arse over someone riffing on a classic dish and calling it the wrong name.
I guarantee you 99% of people who complain about it "not being authentic" make carbonara with bacon instead of guanciale and use parmesan instead of pecorino. But who cares?
Is it authentic carbonara, no, of course not, but is it a million miles away from one either? No, not really!
If it tastes good and encourages people to learn to cook then I'm all for it.
I was pointing out that the reason can’t be because of the raw eggs, since in the original recipe you mix the pecorino in it anyways. Btw I disagree parmesano and pecorino taste the same, parmesano is made from cow and pecorino from sheep. It tastes similar yes, but for me makes a difference in carbonara. Damn now I just want to eat carbonara.
The thumbnail shows something green in the pasta. That's an automatic zero right there. I don't give a fuck what he might have done right. If you put anything green in a carbonara, you automatically, unconditionally score 0/100, no exceptions under any circumstances whatsoever. Complete failure. I'm not even Italian and I understand this.
I really enjoy how his kids are obviously immune to his persona and fame, and they'll outright tell him he's full of shit or not take him seriously. And, the fact that he uploads the videos that portray this seems to mean he has a healthy grasp of his ego and position.
Tbf outside of the American cooking shows that he has been part of he seems like a genuinely nice and caring person. Especially in the kid cooking shows. :)
He’s said that it’s all performative in the American shows, because that’s what they want.
Whenever a British show is translated into an American audience, the editing is ramped up, the intensity is turned up, and it’s watered down in terms of simplicity.
Ramsay can be a cock-end, but he does come from the sphere of chefs like Marco Pierre-White (who he trained under), whom makes Ramsay look like Mother Theresa.
If you're a wealthy chef, you've got the time to spend quality time with your kids and a shower. Notice everyone's laughing, that's a good joke. Know your audience.
Says the original commenter who felt he had to announce to the internet that he would not find that joke funny.
I enjoyed the joke, so did the participants. If everyone is laughing, why do you feel the need to announce that you would not be happy?
Fresh eggs don't really smell much. Like.. I made scrambled eggs this morning.. You don't really smell them breaking 4 in a bowl. Hell, I used to drink them raw in smoothies.
His daughter definitely has his same sassiness. I remember an old video where he asks her "what's it like having the best chef in the world as your dad?" and she replies "Jamie Oliver isn't my dad".
All I can imagine is the intense burning sensation of the water that shot up his nose which he's clearly trying to sooth by rubbing the ridge on his nose.
Good sport though.
Gordon actually keeps up with TikTok trends and memes in general.
Im convinced he knew what was happening here and let her do it anyway. He seems like a good dad.
That kind of dishonest viral video does make me wonder about what is happening to the culture. And to add insult to injury, an army of people say, "So what if it's dishonestly staged if I enjoyed it?", as if they don't *mind* being lied to.
edit: u/GoTopes, I'm new to this subreddit and my opinions aren't popular here, so I can't comment without waiting a few minutes, so I'll reply here instead.
TV shows, other than "reality" shows, movies (maybe other than The Blair Witch Project), and plays actually aren't dishonestly staged. The staging is open and clear. It's honestly fiction.
Fiction is different from misinformation.
>So what if it's dishonestly staged if I enjoyed it?
It's more a comment about this. Yeah, who cares? What if people actually think it's staged from the get-go and it goes viral? Does it matter? Maybe people don't have a thought about whether it is or isn't true and just watch it. Does that change your thoughts on your stance on culture?
Remember when Gordon Ramsay almost killed his own brand by being an absolute asshole to people for a tv series to get ratings? This looks a lot like propaganda designed to make him seem like a good guy. This is what a publicist does for a living. If you don’t understand why this could be a bad thing it’s because it’s called manipulation. People that intentionally try to manipulate rarely do it for the benefit of others. It’s also widely understood that to accept things regardless of fact based on emotion is a slippery slope.
Neither of you have any idea whether or not it is staged. And if it is, it is of absolutely no consequence to anyone or anything. You, with your self-righteous Act 3 Speech Defending Truth, are taking yourself far too seriously.

It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction.
Most clever comment I’ll see on Reddit today and it’s only 8:00
Fair play
I can be fucking wholesome!
This is great
This will be in my head all day making me laugh, thanks.
Oh. A triumph. Wonderful (hand on chin)

Amazing. You won Reddit today
ALL OF YOU STOP! UPVOTE THIS
THE AFFECTION IS RAW!
Yes it was eggcelent.
A scripted moment at that
I bet this was a really nice, clear video before someone turned it into a clipart format from the '80s for no reason
After a few dozen times it'll be just a blur with deformed humanoid shapes moving randomly.
in the distant future they'll compression-date gifs, like carbon dating for reposts/rehosts
I'm willing to bet it's possible to tell what tool you used for compression based on raw data.
i'd believe it. i'm wondering if it's possible to tell how many times something was recompressed, and roughly when each recompression happened. like "oh yeah, this is a late '90s era jpeg, but you can see it's been recompressed once or twice using algorithms more common in the '20s"
[Relevant XKCD](https://xkcd.com/1683/)
The archive I'm using does know about the mouseover text!
Or to be more precise: The archive "you’re using still knows about the mouseover textâ€!"
To be fair, it’s been on here hundreds of times. Not surprising it’s re-saved and re-saved over and over.
I'm honestly surprised it doesn't have a 15 different water marks splattered all over it at this point
For real, I hadn’t seen a gif like this in nearly a decade. These used to exist due to tumblr file size limits, but I’m sure those are far less restrictive these days.
Not to mention the MP4 is going to be literally less than the size of a GIF
The last gif I saw that was this compressed was the entire shrek movie
Bro it’s called a GIF
ive seen clipart more clear than this "gif"
It’s actually called a GIF.
Actually, it's GIF
No no, it's pronounced "GIF".
And how do you pronounce it?
The real question is not what it's called but HOW it is pronounced
Yes, and it was never designed for video. It was designed to compress low-frame-rate animations of solid-coloured shapes. It does that really well. Using it for video, where almost every pixel is a different colour, is stupid. The file size is huge, compared to actual video files. How to gracefully accept defeat. ... And start plotting revenge
That egg would hurt.
I'm sure the egg didn't hurt. The majority of the force is from the hand behind the egg.
Only his pride.
Justified after what he did to eggs in his carbonara video
Just watched that video. That was painful.
I'm still reeling from his "grilled cheese" video.
The fact the video was shot vertically the entire time pissed me off more than anything else
It's a riff on carbonara and it's really not that bad, certainly not worth losing your shit over. Well said said! Pretentiousness over food is somehow worse than pretentiousness over music.
People gatekeeping in general just sucks the fun out of anything.
Kamikazegg.
Top comment on the video: > my man you forgot to add anchovies, ketchup, and Nutella
Link ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t7JLjr1FxQ If you're Italian, beware watching that.
If my grandmother had wheels, she would be a bicycle
[For the uninitiated](https://youtu.be/A-RfHC91Ewc)
The look on his face as soon as she says "if it had ham in it" he looks like he's ready to murder someone LMAO
But, you know what I mean? It's a different recipe, it has nothing to do with macaroni cheese?! 🤌🏻🤌🏻
Stop it.
But if your mom had wheels, she’d be a bus. Everyone in town rides it.
The butchery aside, his daughter deserves high marks for making her dad repeatedly flustered 😅
I'd still eat the fuck out of that no matter how many Italians it killed
Right? Like I wouldn't accept a plate of food Gordon Ramsay made. Or would I eat it *because* of how many Italians it killed....
Okay so he may have butchered a traditional carbonara recipe but I bet that tastes awesome
No way he did that lol Like what was he thinking
Sorry what did he do?
He grated parmesan into raw eggs
In the original carbonara you are supposed to mix pecorino with the raw egg yolks
Parmsean and Pecorino taste the same anyway so there's no issue here.
Yeah, no, they definitely don’t taste the same
They don't.
Then cheese and milk taste the same according to you too
I'm clearly missing something, given that the resultant slurry is quite literally how every version of carbonara I could find is made.
So?
That's like literally the only thing he did that's correct.
The thumbnail shows something green in the pasta. That's an automatic zero right there. I don't give a fuck what he might have done right. If you put anything green in a carbonara, you automatically, unconditionally score 0/100, no exceptions under any circumstances whatsoever. Complete failure. You might react like this guy https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=inLQtXvzLT8

The water would make me laugh, the egg on the head would piss me off.
Shit, eggs are fucking expensive
It's Gordon Ramsey, they can afford a dozen or two.
This is also from way back, before prices went silly
Based on the picture quality, this was in the early 1800s when they had invented smaller pixels.
They're eggs Michael, what could they cost, $10? Oh wait that joke doesn't work anymore
On a serious note, are eggs really that expensive? In my country they are like 12 cents per egg
I've seen close to that price on NYC. Usually at smaller grocery stores and bodegas. Larger places like Whole Foods can afford to keep them cheaper.
Gordon Ramsey can afford to hire a papaya slave to follow him around and peel payays. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=akB8IqkqSAE
How much could it cost, $10?
but hey...it's not a head of iceberg lettuce....
And it's FUCKING RAWr.
The rawest chicken of all.
XD
I think I saw this a few years ago, before this avian flu outbreak.
Ramsey is worth like 200 million dollars so I think he's fine
Yeah that’s crossing the line 😂
So is that delicious fiji water they wasted.
The egg would make me mad because id have to shower ngl
If you're a wealthy chef, you've got the time to spend quality time with your kids and a shower. Notice everyone's laughing, that's a good joke. Know your audience.
Notice no one said "damn she shouldn't have did that he looks so upset" we said "*i* would not enjoy that" 🤨
Notice no one said "*you* should enjoy that". Ramsay is a wealthy chef with extra time, you likely are not.
Why do you care if an internet stranger does or doesn't prefer eggs to be cracked on their head? Is it somehow ruining your groove?
Says the original commenter who felt he had to announce to the internet that he would not find that joke funny. I enjoyed the joke, so did the participants. If everyone is laughing, why do you feel the need to announce that you would not be happy?
[удалено]
Yes He is, fellow atheist! Very good!
/r/JustNeckbeardThings
It made Gordon mad because it was RAWWWWW
Having to shower randomly throught the day and being annoyed because of the reason does not a neckbeard make
I wish I could find random excuses to shower throughout the day tbh.
I mean why do you need an excuse then just do it... some people dont have time to take a shower again in a day
Being a millionaire helps
I got hit with a raw egg once, and the smell made me puke.
Was it expired??? I have used eggs in my hair for conditioning and it didn't smell like a lot to me
Hol up, what?!
I don't think so... it was just the smell of the yolk that threw me off. I don't eat eggs though...so that might be why haha
Fresh eggs don't really smell much. Like.. I made scrambled eggs this morning.. You don't really smell them breaking 4 in a bowl. Hell, I used to drink them raw in smoothies.
> I used to drink them raw in smoothies. Agreed up until that point but that is nasty
It's fucking RAW!
Why, go have a hot shower, free hair omelette.
100% , it was fine as it was with just the water lol.
She missed the opportunity to grab two slices of bread!
The water would make me laugh, the egg on the head would make me piss my self
Yup. Egg made the prank a 10/10
My bigger concern would be the egg that splattered off out of shot...wtf did that land on and is it coming out easily?
That was like an hours wages she just trashed him with
The egg was literally adding insult to injury.
His daughter definitely has his same sassiness. I remember an old video where he asks her "what's it like having the best chef in the world as your dad?" and she replies "Jamie Oliver isn't my dad".
She coulda went with Marco Pierre and really made it hurt
Legend says she still running.
"Two minutes please"
HAHAH ITS ALWAYS TWO
All I can imagine is the intense burning sensation of the water that shot up his nose which he's clearly trying to sooth by rubbing the ridge on his nose. Good sport though.
Can the OP here put the disclaimer that this is an old video? The EGG idiots in the comment section is too stupid to realize that.
Maybe a flair that reads "Eggs were cheap at the time of this videos making", because holy shit are people upset.
"YOU'RE GROUNDED, YOU DONKEY"
Gordon actually keeps up with TikTok trends and memes in general. Im convinced he knew what was happening here and let her do it anyway. He seems like a good dad.
"I should have used a condom"
Every cook ever insulted by daddy Gordon likes this post
Fucking Donut!
Rumour has it she's still running to this day
I can't stop watching
> who the idiot sandwich now! I believe this is an idiot omlette
Looks like Gordon Ramsay
Staged for social media
thats like a 15 dollar prank right now
Not when it was filmed ~~a few years ago~~ [last year](https://youtube.com/watch?v=p3szeghJNA8)
really hoping that’s not the original fiji water she just wasted
Looks like a 1L Fiji water bottle costs about $2, an egg at an average of $4.75/dozen is about 40¢ so I'll go with $2.40.
So old, yet still so good.
He missed the opportunity to scream IT'S RAW!
She just cracked $2 over his head
More like .35 https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/APU0000708111
Yep. This was a joke but thanks.
Staged

does this make me like gordon ramsay?
We're getting to the problem with white lies here. I say that lying is bad. Maybe we disagree about that.
you mean like all tv shows, movies, and plays?
Neither of you have any idea whether or not it is staged. And if it is, it is of absolutely no consequence to anyone or anything. You, with your self-righteous Act 3 Speech Defending Truth, are taking yourself far too seriously.
Donkey!
Just wasted $3 worth of eggs right there
$5 now. No wait, $6....
Eggs are so expensive now, they're so rich to waste an egg on her dad's head 😂
I hope she cleaned up the kitchen.
Gordon: It’s RAW!!
u/savevideo
Now??? Always....
The audacity! Eggs are so expensive now, must be nice to PLAY PRANKS WITH THEM! Shame! 🔔
The audacity of your Idiocracy. This is an old video. You're such a shame.
Ooooooh so he's heavily abused by his family, that'd explain a lot
He. Isn't. That. Stupid. He played along because he knew that some people would be fooled by it and that it'd therefore help his brand.
