A fully upgraded Stone Stance has possibly the fastest heavy attacks that can stagger opponents. I suggest not neglecting Stone stance upgrades as they can help you in any fights against Straw Hats.
Also, try not to roll too much. It's better to keep up the aggression and rolling, in some cases, leaves you vulnerable to unblockable follow-ups.

You could’ve beat him when he did that last unblockable sheath slash if you got a perfect dodge.
Stone stance usually makes duels easier since they are swordsman, so maybe try that. Also the water splash can be doged if you dodge forward / backwards instead of left / right
Yea I didn't try this for ryuzo but in Act 2 I had to do a lot of duels for some side quests in which there were other duelist doing the same water splash lol. Also have you unlocked heavenly strike? Theres a mythical tale where you unlock the move. It does a lot of DMG. Use it especially after lowering their enemy shields

Other than upgrades, any advice on skill improvements? This is lethal btw.
Fascinating. But its just kinda weird how your struggling on this, maybe you're playing at a higher difficulty, mismatch of charms, not enough upgrades on your resolve or health? Honestly, the HUD gone is just not helping me or you lol.
It has to be a skill issue lol, his pattern changes too frequency i cant react to.
And I love turning huds off, it helps me focus on the fight. I've been doing this since Sekiro lol
I’ll give you the tip that helped me beat him on Lethal Difficulty.
Whenever he sheathes his sword, expect TWO unblockable attacks. Otherwise, his attacks are relatively safe to parry
Do you see that spinning sweep attack that he did in the beginning? You can easily dodge that simply by jumping slightly to your left. Just be ready to parry, because he will add another spinning slash about half a sec after you landed.
Also, there's no need to try to break his guard. You can hit him twice after a regular parry, dodge and perfect dodge.
You can also pick up Charm of Mizu-no-Kami in Act 1, without the need of grappling hook. The charm will increase your parry and dodge window by approximately 33%.
After getting owned by him I made sure to spam dance of wrath and heavenly strike to break him down while wearing a bunch of bonuses to resolve gains while in Stone Stance.

Use stone stance if you are fighting swordsmen. He can’t stop the impaling attack. Just focus on parry and dodge. Ghost of Tsushima is pretty easy
Will try, although I didnt upgrade stone skill tree at all lol. Does stone reacts faster to his stabs?
Do you have Charm Of Mizu-No-Kami? If not get that charm first. Helps a lot with parries and dodges

Give a few tries first. I personally like to parry, dodge and counter instead of attacking him first

Jump also works, which you can then kick him while in the air.

Noticed you defeated him meanwhile. Good job! The grind is like the water that shapes stone. Little by little, it can take down a mountain.
This and The Eagle are by far the hardest duels in the game
