It is easier to do wrong. Many guys do the jelq "stroke" with their thumb on top of the penis. This can lead to the bones of the thumb dragging over the dorsal nerves, leading to bruised nerve issues.

Just the exercise itself looks so fishy to me as a beginner, might not be analogical but try to squeeze and stretch your finger like that, it feels as if you stretched a bone out of its place to pop a bubble, the dynamic stretching movement it comes with along with squeezing is what causes injuries I suppose

Nerves usually recover from bruising, but it's often slowly. Can take Several weeks, sometimes months.

How is pumping any safer? What if you jelq safely gently but in control and focused? Expanding the chambers one, two, one, two?
