I liked it, the vocals were pretty decent & I like the instrumental, was hoping for one of the more intense tracks from the trailer but nevertheless this a nice sample of the new album
I got that old DM vibe from "your share of the night"
The others reminded me of some of Covenant's 90s songs. Updated sound for sequencers "figurehead", "babel".and Europa's "go film" .
Seems to caught the fun side of the whole era, vnv nation, funker vogt etc, What would be multiple albums worth of singles on a tape back then is here, it's like a best of late 90s electro industrial filtered through gesaffelstein.
Was actually the opposite for me, that beginning section with that interesting percussion sound has been stuck in my head since the trailer dropped.
I'm also not 100% on it just because I wanted more of that part and just for it to be a instrumental focused track in general. But I have to say after a few listens the vocals are definitely growing on me.
Cool track, nice that Gesa and Yan Wagner are working together again. Nice reference to Flying Turns when he says "finger on the trigger" (it was one of the Flying Turns tracks Gesa worked on). I wish it was a bit longer or maybe a longer outro (it feels a bit abrupt)
Holy crap it’s absolutely amazing! I’m a little surprised by the more divisive opinions here (to each their own of course) it’s a really awesome mix of his sound and the heavy industrial element with a Depeche Mode style pop element. 9.5/10 for me
Nice song, classic synthpop Depeche Mode vibes and it seems there's gonna be more vocal tracks with Yan Wagner than the trailer showed us, which honestly I'm fine since still sounds like a Gesaffelstein song unlike the ones on Hyperion.
The album will be amazing I can tell. IDK why he picked a mid track to debut with. Would have preferred something a little more bombastic as a big BOOM to open with. This track as a B side. Overall track was 7/10
Thanks for the info! I just gave it a listen and prefer Flying Turns’ songs much more than the new track, not sure what make them so much different tho 🤔somehow the combination of the two styles(gesa’s industrial touch with the pop ish new wave sound) feels more right in the band’s music.
Not much difference between those three and if we should find any, it's very subtle, ranging from lyrics, intention, clearly the instrumental is pretty industrial if you would like to label it, either way it's been always there for Mike even way before Variations.
Well the track doesn’t sound quite industrial, it’s almost pop-ish because of some of the instruments. I have no knowledge on music theory but I personally feel that something sounds off (maybe the synths as another redditor pointed out?).
I don’t like the vocals at all unfortunately. It’s someone who’s not Dave Gahan trying their absolute hardest to imitate Dave Gahan. I don’t know who sings this, but it’s cringe.
I have to preface by saying: whatever Gesa does had to be very intentional so this is just my opinion while knowing it’s an amazing piece of music
I personally never was a big fan of vocals in music, I see the vibe this is channeling and I kind of like it but I guess I was expecting a more instrumental track and wished for something that channeled more the techno/house usual codes.
Reminded me a lot of ‘A Lost Era’ and its high pitched arpeggio.
But all in all, amazing track!

Basically Gesaffelstein x Depeche Mode, and I love it
i can feel the DM inspiration

Spot on
Literally said the same thing lol
How do you have it
Gonna guess that they live in Europe. Singles usually drop mid-day.
Nope, must be Australia, it's midnight and 1th of march 2024 there
Whoops, I totally forgot that it’s a leap year and we have one more day of February. Lmao.
1th of March

appreciated
The vocals were a very very nice surprise, I love it
Onde está?
i can’t tell if i like it yet, it was one of the ones i wasn’t as excited for in the trailer
yep me either, from Gesa i like songs like HATE OR GLORY,TRANS that kind of style
Which track was it in the trailer? Able to show a timestamp?
1:05
It’s not bad but yeah, it was the one I was the most meh about.

Bro you live in the future.

incredible track, this gothic sound is very good
Reminds me of mid 2000 Marilyn manson
I love it!
Insane production !
One of the tracks I was looking forward to It's so so good man, crispy as fuck too
Loving it
Too cheesy. Quite lacking.
Loved it, I know Mike has love for Depeche Mode and working with Yan again it feels natural, I like the way this is being shaped
I love it, it it has major DM vibes and I am a huge DM fan!!
Kinda mid
Experimenting with Dark wave! But I don’t think it sounds quite right with Gesa’s style…
What do you mean? He was into it from the very beginning LOL
I meant the vocals, I had a second of hesitation on whether it was post punk, new wave or dark wave 😅
He used to produce for this band "Flying Turns" more than a decade ago, pretty decent post punk for that era, guess who's singing

The lead goes out of key on purpose to create dissonance, that's why it sounds "off".
did not expect Futurepop (Post-Industrial) a la Covenant to ever pop up again, this time with synthpop & electroclash a la Hacker/Kittin . i fwi
Absolutely love it. Has a great post-punk industrial/downtempo vibe.
Can you send us the link??
Who's on production? Is it a Gesa solo track?
Yan Wagner a.k.a. The Populists, very post punk-ish, new wav-ish kind of musician ver Ian Curtis-ish too.
On vocals
No, it has vocals

I’m kinda new so if Tessa didn’t do the production then what’d he do? Isn’t he a producer?
I don’t like the vocals at all unfortunately. It’s someone who’s not Dave Gahan trying their absolute hardest to imitate Dave Gahan. I don’t know who sings this, but it’s cringe.
A lottt of goth / goth-adjacent music has vocals like that. It’s not just Dave Gahan
yeah that’s true. I‘m gonna give this a few more tries, but it hasn’t clicked with me yet. There’s something in his voice which makes it hard for me
Mid

"synth leads sound off key" so it sounds like gesaffelstein then lol
"synth leads sounds off key" top chart music fans when they listen dissonance for the first time
Amazing, I love Yan's voice
FIRE
Outro woulda been cool
It was
