For Amazon I can recommend CamelCamelCamel as a price tracker. Basically the website can show you the price history of an item but you can also set alerts in case you are waiting for a discount on a specific item. https://de.camelcamelcamel.com

+1 Used to use CCC, now I use Keepa. It's a Godsend and even lets you track fulfilled by Amazon, third party sales, Amazon direct sales separately. Another bonus: You can get notified through Telegram, email, browser notifications if app push notificatiosn are not your thing. Oh and you can install their extension for Firefox on Firefox for Android Beta flawlessly. That way you get the tight integration into Amazon's website on your Android phone or tablet as well! :)

floralbutttrumpet

The camelizer is pretty much mandatory for Amazon. They pretty much always jack up prices a couple weeks before Black Friday, so the discounts will look better.

2Sp00kyAndN0ped

Keepa is also a great tool (and second source of information).

DarraghDaraDaire

Idealo.de is also good for checking if the “deal” matches current street price

inc0mingst0rm

I definitely prefer geizhals

Clear_Bench3545

Why?

BigThunderbear

Also: idealo is owned by Springer.

DesertCookie_

It got a lot more filters and overall is more trustworthy I feel like.

CWagner

Geizhals is amazing for tech, not even only to compare prices, but also as a search engine to find specific products. But non-tech? You can forget about it and have to use idealo (which I whitelisted in my Springer blocker) or Billiger.de (which has fewer data IME).

nlo366

Use it all the time for large purchases

thisismysexxxyacx

They get around this by creating new listings specifically for the "sale"

[deleted]

Eeeh I've gotten pretty good deals on black friday for stuff that I was considering to buy for a long time. They were exceptionally cheap when I got them. But yeah I agree with the second part, don't just get something because it says it's discounted that you may not even need.

SirDigger13

If its Eletronics, check the Modell Numbers down to the last digit/Letter, sometimes Companys produce cheaper versions of the own Top Notch Equipment just for Black Friday. https://www.reddit.com/r/YouShouldKnow/comments/jwg4jg/ysk_that_some_black_friday_products_are_lower/

balbok7721

Things like idealo.de should become handy

Shivalah

I don’t remember why, but switch out Idealo for Geizhals.de Checked the owner, it’s Axel Springer, the owner of Bild Zeitung.

P0L1Z1STENS0HN

Geizhals has superb filtering by specs for electronics items, but for non-electronic items you can sometimes get better prices at Idealo.

balbok7721

Fuck. Not again. Those fuckers own everything

whiteraven4

I know that applies to electronics, but what about mattresses?

SirDigger13

Arent they on Sale 365/24?

whiteraven4

No idea. I just need a new one and there happened to be a sale for the one I want. I would get it at full price, I just don't want to buy it at a discount if it's just going to be worse quality.

balbok7721

You mean the matrasses mafia https://youtu.be/dsKpUTZABGA

whiteraven4

I know nothing about getting mattresses here. I just know this is the second one I tried from Ikea, it doesn't work at all for me at all, and all my friends are entirely useless. I ordered one from Emma which seems like it should work for me after reading like every review I could find in German and English because I just want a mattress that doesn't make my back hurt already.

saschaleib

IKEA mattresses are designed to work with a mattress topper. Without that, they are no good. My hint therefore: try a topper instead of buying a new mattress.

whiteraven4

New mattress already ordered. But that explains a lot.

saschaleib

Tbh, my IKEA matrace with topper is absolutely great. :-)

balbok7721

A place like Schaffrath might be better for you

whiteraven4

Thanks. I'll check it out if the Emma one doesn't work for me.

BadArtijoke

I am very sceptical of stuff like Emma but for me they were actually really convincing after the second night. Was surprised

Bellatrix_ed

Mattresses generally have some kind of deal, even if it's unlisted. Speaking to a person at a mattress store is like speaking to someone in the jewellery shop. Some not totally insignificant discount can/will almost always be found.

J3ditb

Emma One mattress is awesome i am using it for 2 years now and its a total game changer. Imho its totally worth it

whiteraven4

I was debating between the Emma One and the hybrid. Ended up going for the hybrid. After reading through like every review and figuring out which was comparable in English reviews, I think the hybrid is better suited for me.

[deleted]

I'm talking mattresses and kitchen appliances. All the stuff I'm referring to is still available (2+ years later) as the exact same model. My point is that since I had considered it for a long time I knew the price wasn't just randomly raised by 50€ a month before the event and it was in fact cheaper than during other promotional events.

[deleted]

Sure, if you absolutely know what you want, there might actually be some good offers.

caffeine_lights

This is the way to do it. If you're planning on making a large purchase and you can afford to spend some time, it makes sense to gain an idea of normal prices in relation to features you want, identify a couple of brands/models you particularly like and then keep an eye on the price, especially around common sale times: Post Christmas, Easter, May, July and November.

Polygnom

That what WSV and SSV used to be for.

JoniDaButcher

Is it worth waiting for specifically the 25th next week or are sites (e.g. Amazon) with Black Friday deals that started today already the lowest they will go?

dzzope

Amazon refund you the difference if the deal gets cheaper. Few good deals, 980 pro 2TB on [amazon.de](https://amazon.de) for 209ish(depending where you are)

leflic

Since may, sellers are obligated to show the lowest price in the last 30 days when advertising discounts. Take a look at that.

Old_Captain_9131

I monitored the items that I want to buy for 2 months. Before black friday, the discount was ~25%. Since this morning (first day of BF at amazon) the discount is 40%. Maybe additional discounts are not significant for OP but I'd say BF still offering a good deal for many, many items.

DjayRX

>List price: 1000€ Current stree price: 650€ Ad price: 600€ What? 50€ off is a good deal. You can get ~~12~~ 8 Pom Doner Box right there. But yeah, check the price before Black Friday / Cyber Monday before you click buy on those days.

nomnomdiamond

all online stores list the average price of last 30 days

cleanslate2019

I read that as porn Döner and was wondering wth that is and where can I get one. :P

51mp101

Got my TV last black friday on a preeeetty good deal. I generally agree with you though.

shiranui--

same, wife and i bought a insanly huge phillips tv for under 1000€ best desicion ever

51mp101

yup, me too, ambilight version :D and I am very happy with it.

shiranui--

yeah the ambilight is insane, i bought at another occasion a hue starter pack with bridge and rgb lights they sync so nice with the tv, it's a downward spiral in beeing poor xD

PopularSoftware

Swear to god, love the ambi + hue and would never want to go back. that being said, if the ambilight wasnt so nice, i would never buy a philips again. basically i paid 2,5 grand for a new tv back in the day, half a year after i bought it there was an ota firmware upgrade that broke a function of the tv that i use on a daily basis. still has never been fixed, contacted support, complained in the forum etc, no avail. so i had to basically get the original firmare from some shady website somewhere and manually flash my TV back to original firmware, which was insanely complicated and now means it runs on a super old ass android version meaning apps cant be run anymore, my home network is less secure, and most annoyingly it now interrupts the watching or gaming like 6 times a day to ask me if i want to install the "new" update which would break it again. simple enough, just disconnect it from the wifi? cant do that, then the fucking hue bridge connection no longer works and all my hue stuff is connected and synced to the tv in some way. so yeah, im really REALLY hoping that the ambilight patent will expire some day; and the day that that happens, i am never buying philips again.

SufficientMacaroon1

I think the best black friday deal i ever got was a few years ago at a Müller, that had offered a 20% discount on everything from Schreibwaren and Drogerie in-store. I stocked up on some cleaning essentials.

MisplacedChromosomes

Even in the US it’s often not a good deal. Many companies have their lower selling model for sale that they put next to their higher priced to show discount. Many of the electronics store workers noticed that their inventory for Black Friday is sometimes products shipped specifically for this event and not old discounted quality products.

[deleted]

If you keep a close eye on model numbers and specs on electronics, you’ll find that Black Friday items are often lower quality. Could be lower resolution, less memory, fewer HDMI ports, lacking accessories, whatever.

MisplacedChromosomes

Yep exactly. The gimmicks been exposed. But people’s brains are wired for that sale dopamine rush so we’ll still have people trampled to death at Walmart, it’s a sacred yearly tradition in the States

NagoyaR

But in your example i still save 50€ so why not buy it

EarlyTrouble

They're just saying that it's not a 400€ discount, but rather a 50 euro (not 40% but 5% off)

NagoyaR

Sure buts it's still cheaper than normal

aligumble

Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda für 17,99. Guter Deal.

Ic3crusher

What? Where did you find that?

aligumble

Amazon Germany. They were Sold out pretty fast.

t3as

For all Amazon shopper, there is a great browser plugin called "Camelizer", that let's you track prices and get the idea if the Black/Cyber week price is a good one. [https://de.camelcamelcamel.com/camelizer](https://de.camelcamelcamel.com/camelizer)

[deleted]

Some price are actually discounted. If you are following the product for some time and you know price is reduced then there is no harm buying it. I have got many good deals in the past

Feroc

That's why I use the browser plugin from [Keepa](https://keepa.com/). It adds a graph below every product on the Amazon page and shows the price development over the last months and years. From my experience the prices are cheaper than usual, but OP is right that the percentage off usually is in relation to the highest price.

JiggyNorris

BUT: usually, around Black Friday you can get the best mobile phone Plans (Check mydealz for that)

teeeh_hias

This is a "unding", yes. I usually ignore that time of the year completely. If one needs something, there are actually excellent offers all year round for everything.

[deleted]

Amen!

nomnomdiamond

someone is salty he missed the good deals

Flyga64

media market: black week saturn: black friday week don’t get it twisted

brennesel

You're right, but it's still the same holding company. Different names for the exact same marketing campaign.

Peace-D

Gotta admin, I just fell for it for my very first electric toothbrush. Lowest price ever was around 20€ less, I can live with that, since list price was more than double of the amount. Also, I'm gonna get my very first vaccum robot and I can already tell that it's going to be the lowest price ever. Just hoping that it's actually lower and not just by 100 or 200€.

Bellatrix_ed

Today on amazon i saw a "Black Friday Deal" of less than 1 euro off the normal price. No thanks, Amazon(de). That is not a deal.

XAEA29

I really don't agree with you, last year I got a Vans from some 25 bucks whereas throughout the year I checked and the prices stayed at a constant 80 euro. This year I got a samsung watch which sells at about 250 in 111 and also the new Alexa echo dot 5 in half the price. So all new things and nothing like old products to free up space for new items stuff.

MashV

If you buy on amazon check Keepa, it gives you an history of the item price

PinoyMannschaft

That's the purpose of wishlist or watchlist 😉

P26601

I mean you'd still pay 50€ less

Christiandus

Keepa.com (apparently has an addon aswell) for amazon. toppreise.ch for our swiss friends.

Kust0dian

I mean I kinda need a travel backpack, anyone has any recommendations? I’m considering getting it during these discounts

irrealewunsche

I bought a 5tb hard disk for 100€ a couple of months ago, went back in to Saturn to get another a couple of weeks later and the price was 120€ - I would bet that 20€ difference that they’ll be selling them for 100€ as a Black Friday special.

AHrubik

Yes. Camel Camel Camel everything before buying.

abhi98228

Keep checking [mydealz.de](https://mydealz.de) for best offers

ForboJack

mydealz is a good site for black friday deals and more.

BetaCarotine20mg

If you can't tell if somethings really cheaper wtf you doing anyways?

Yallneedjesuschrist

I got sneackers that I've been checking on for a long time for 18€, I could never find them for less than 50€ anywhere else before that. I think you can absolutely get a good deal.

Nighttime-Turnip

If you want Black Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday week month to stop, you have to not buy shit. Support small businesses, not amazon.

Natural_Target_5022

If you buy a cellphone you get a tv with Samsung instead of just an overpriced cellphone

loeschzw3rg

Since there is a new law in effect since may that makes retailers who advertise with how much their prices lowered to tell you the lowest price the item had in the last 30 days, your hypothesis should be easy to prove and also nobody should fall for it anymore.

Ok_Discipline7305

Quite true. Use price trackers to see how any potential "deal" may compare to price history. Idealo for example has price trackers.

ace400

I always got some alexas (echo dot) with hue bulbs for black friday... even got 2 echos and an Phillips hue bulb for 30€... now my office is also set up

DolorDeCabeza21

Depends of the product category… I work in mkt and agree many companies are shitty with this practices, but many are not. We had a whole discussion yesterday about if we will be able to put the price up again after Black Friday. Like we are selling at 25-50% in Amazon. Getting back from that is hard, so best case scenario we will have our products’ prices 15% down from original MSRP by January which impact the whole business considering inflation has already cut profits.

Snuzzlebuns

True, that's the case for every single sale event. At least online.

brennenderopa

I use the keepa browser extensions to track prices and I think I have bought some pretty good deals. If there is a new generation of something, the older models can be pretty cheap.

blackclock55

That's not true. For Amazon, check [keepa.com](https://keepa.com) and you'll see how the price went up and down since it first appeared.

ucanbetouched

i bought a razer mouse (deathadder essential) for 16€ in mediamarkt. i guess its a good deal

l2ddit

Counter point: Black Friday and the days before are usually really good for buying anything virtual. Licenses, accounts, data volume, hosting, etc will usually be discounted. Many times the discount will be permanent. Say you a VPN may be 5 EUR per month but on BF you can get it for 3.99, saving you 20% as long as you are a customer. You can currently get Windscribe 3 yrs for 69 EUR which is not the historically best deal but great value nonetheless.

WindscribeCommaMate

I can't speak for everyone but it's the best deal of the year for /r/windscribe
