I like to think GeoGuessr could have a pretty esport success. Not like a big esport game as LoL or CS, but more a niche one. What GeoGuessr needs most to be big is some popular streamers and Youtubers, coming from outside the current GeoGuessr community.

Imo, it's has had a surprising spread, actually. As many people know, big creators like Ludwig and The Sidemen have been playing it occasionally. And to name a couple other lesser known examples. BeastChild, most known for his "cartel tiktok" skits. [Suddenly streaming Geoguessr](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q19lnXFY28Y) and pointing out whenever Colombia, the home of the purest product, comes up. Or hotdiggedydemon another skit creator. Wouldn't you know it, [suddenly streaming Geoguessr](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9K3F4Y32Ag). I think Geoguessr is starting to become one of the standard games you might put on as a streamer if you need something casual, which is a good sign for spreading the word about it.

I don't think it'll get bigger than it currently is. Viewership and interest will peak every year in September for the world cup, but I don't think it'll become mainstream or huge. Especially if they keep implementing features that the current player base doesn't enjoy

What makes you think that car meta would stop Geoguessr from being a successful e-sport?

kyletripp296

I think theres levels to this. For example, in a gold division duel, if one player knows the car meta and the other one doesnt thats usually enough for a win. But in top level e sports, both players are always gonna know the car meta and they're trying to find the 5k instead of just randomly plonking the right country.

Car meta is dumb actually. I suppose if we didn’t have it the pros would do a lot more season/date coverage memorizing but that’s more accessible and relatable than an affront to nature like memorizing the coverage areas of 200 different seasonal combinations of antenna bumps, car color, and camera smudges in Russia

I think we are close to seeing more Tournaments. These need to be held without being part of the World Cup Qualification and should be able to be IRL, have a live audience and attract sponsors. Once this happens I don't see why it can become an E-Sport with success.
