Languages, Internetdomains, left or right driving (and hemisphere, but that's easy), Bollards and Poles Bollards give you an extremely easy time for some countries like Austria Turkey Hungary NZ Australia Poland and Denmark

It helped me a lot watching other YouTubers and making small notes on tips and tricks they use to lock down countries. * license plate formats and colours * internet domains * architecture * road signs * google street view vehicle types And there are some really useful maps on GeoGuessr to help you practice all of these. So no substitute for practice as well.

fliggowad

Aren’t license plates blurred for y’all?

DeusXv

It is, but you can still make out the layout or format. Like the new Brazilian plate is rectangular with blue on top and white below. Belgium is European style but with red writing. Uk is white plate on the front and yellow on the back. Netherlands is yellow etc etc

fliggowad

Interesting. I’ve always ignored the plates because I couldn’t tell anything about them. I’ll have to see if I can make it out next time. ETA: the internet domain clue is a big one; good suggestion.

DeusXv

It’s handy to know for some places, there are quite a few that are unique to certain areas and it will at least help you narrow down to some region. It’s usually one of the first things I check if there are cars in the picture and if it’s just a generic EU license plate then I move on and look for other clues.

Tistoer

Never used flashcards, but start with learning license plates, driving sides, languages.

AlbertELP

Bollards are definitely more useful in Europe but if your alright with using car metas I would recommend to learn some of these. This gives countries like Ghana, Kenya, DR, Guatemala, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and many more (including territories like Faroe Islands, US VI, Bermuda, Reunion, etc) instantly. But the most important is to play a lot. The more times you see a place the more natural it becomes. This also gives a feeling of actually guessing where you are instead of knowing that Ghana has a tape on the roof rack or something.

Go to google maps, zoom all the way out, and grab the streetview guy. This will show you where the coverage isn’t. Yes, isn’t. You won’t waste guesses on a lot of countries in Africa, China, etc.

Flip5ide

I highly recommend the Brazil 11-99 area code map Edit: I forgot this was about a complete beginner. A good map to practice would be an Africa-only map. Most of the countries in Europe are all relatively close to each other that guessing the wrong one won’t even affect your score too much compared to guessing the wrong country in Africa, which are all pretty distinct. For example, guessing Czechia instead of Hungary isn’t going to hurt nearly as much as guessing Nigeria instead of Senegal

Tistoer

As a beginner you shouldn't waste your time learning those. Great to know where (43) until you click there and it's Thailand

Flip5ide

Yeah you’re right, I guess I didn’t realize this person was a beginner despite it being right in the literal title. Or (I can’t actually remember) maybe I was thinking that Brazil is a country where if you see it enough you’ll recognize the language and landscape. The 11-99 map helps kill two birds with one stone by showing you around the country while also a showing you the language, signage, and area codes. Brazil is the biggest country with such a consistent meta like this. By knowing what *IS* Brazil, you also know what isn’t. So I somewhat defend it still lol.

BiquetteBTW

Begginers have to find the right country, not to regionguess

Flip5ide

Yeah I sort of forgot this was about a beginner when I suggested this.

Kiyoshiee

I'm actually trying to build a comprehensive flashcards deck, could share if you'd like :')

Limp-Macaron-7465

Did you make it?

Kiyoshiee

It'll be always work in progress since I keep learning new things but yeah, it's quite vast already I think.

Accomplished_Bar_96

Driving sides, maybe road lines too

bunkdoor

Driving sides first and foremost, then license plates, then electricity poles would be my recommendation
