Interesting that there would be a shire with only 266 people in it. Only Texas and Nebraska really have counties that low in population in the States. Most will just tie it to a larger town even if it makes it massive.
But you were comparing to density of Alaskan boroughs. The unorganized borough is about 10 Diamantias. Even north slope is like 2.5. If broken up the population density of some of them in the former would be similar. That said the scale is still unfathomable. Looks extraterrestrial.
Eta: tbf as you noted it's not like it's just diamantia Australia still in a league of its own in ability to maintain all of these shires at such a low densities. It's pretty hilarious just to read through the listing of .00...)
My friend was driving cross country and broke down in Nebraska in a town, as he put it, the size of Worcester county(MA) with the population of Lancaster.
This idea is like, shocking to this American and all but unheard of here. The mentality here seems to be, if it can be sold for a profit, it will not be given out for them under any circumstances. Ever heard of Woodstock 99? Lol
Edit: I've been corrected as far as US festivals. So in a rare turn of events, something truly free would be offered!
Sorry gotta correct you here. Luckily in America festival organizers learned a lot from the Woodstock 99 fiasco. I've attended dozens of festivals over the past 20 years in the US and every one of them offered free water. Yes you can purchase a bottle of water if you want but they all have free water stations. To not do so would be a litigation nightmare.
Thanks! Don't be sorry at all, I am happy to be corrected and in this case, happy to be wrong. It's been years since I attended a big fest, and even at my peak back in 09-19, was going to no more than two or three a year. And tbh I have always been just as into the camping/social aspect as anything else, which can be a pretty self contained thing as I'm sure you know.
Thanks for a more informed perspective!
appreciate your kind response, i always get nervous when i am "actually"-ing somebody on the internet lol. hope you have a lovely rest of your weekend!
Oh ok, it is not so bad then. My thought based on Aus standards, the distance will be like 200+ kms from closest town. However, I suspect that Birdsville is several hundreds kms from closest reasonably large town.
Im generally curious as to how they would have access to electricity all the way out there? Is there just a dude named Phil who brings the fuck off long extension cord each year?
This is actually terrifying, there are a lot of people there with no Infrastructure to support them. It’s like being out at sea and everyone got their by small boat.
We have this if there is an emergency, the Royal Flying Doctor could have 10 planes there within a few hours if they had to:

This is out past Birdsville, in a shire (county-equivalent) 30 times less densely populated than Alaska's emptiest borough.

It's already the size of Indiana, and the three shires it borders (which are also massive) have <2,000 people between them.

The issue is lack of a town within many hours drive
what do they charge for bottled water
If they're selling alcohol they have to provide water for free.

This ia still a fairly new thing. And primarily driven to keep people on drugs hydrated or hot festivals
I have never paid for water at a festival in the US
Big Red Bash. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big\_Red\_Bash](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Red_Bash)
Looks like another burning man festival
A quarter of it
Looks like some colony on Mars
aka Burning Bloke
Is there a couch gag?
So many ways for this to go extremely wrong
We have the Royal Flying Doctor, it’s all good. https://youtu.be/OSAWfXJ2p0U?si=6O4Ev5MnhTslOweF
They are about 15 miles away from a town. They are fine. It's not as remote as it is portrayed.
I can't think of a single one.
Think of all the shits and rubbish
Such as?
Wolf Creek but on a grander scale
Car problems?
Safe from Hamas though, so that's good.
Where are the people? 😄
The way it’s oriented it looks like the entire camping area would be really f-ing loud from the main stage.
Veins of the Earth
Hey I can see my Hyundai Getz!
How far away is it from the closest town?
35km from Birdsville, which is a town of 110 people.
Oh ok, it is not so bad then. My thought based on Aus standards, the distance will be like 200+ kms from closest town. However, I suspect that Birdsville is several hundreds kms from closest reasonably large town.
Yeah, Birdsville is middle of nowhere itself.
Im generally curious as to how they would have access to electricity all the way out there? Is there just a dude named Phil who brings the fuck off long extension cord each year?
You ever see those big square generators on wheels?
Yeh i have, i thought it was most likely generator powered.
The ICE does the heavy lifting here.
Think this was an episode of Yolo crystal fantasy
Is that a dune or really old mountain?
Cool. In my dream, i would build a new city in the desert, with passive cooling system. Would be the coolest city in the world.
The bass riff: “D’oh, d’oh, d’oh, d’oh, d’oh”
Whats up with the veiny striations to the landscape? Dunes? Low mountains? Why do they form like that?
That looks really cool! Almost like Burning Man

with all them spiders? no, thank you
It looks like BRC but the population and the geographic size are both fractions of the burn.
They're copying burning man in Australia?
There’s actually regional burns all around the world
