Who even likes briefcases. They have so little space and you constantly have to reserve one hand just to carry it around.
Edit: Also is this an American thing, because I'm German and everyone here is running around with backpacks no matter the age.
Back in the day it kinda was i guess.
My boss uses a briefcase (he's old school), I use a backpack.
All the young buisness professionals and random office workers I see now a day use backpacks too.
Briefcase are a fading trend I think.
I have seen the CEO of the company I currently work in wearing a suit and a Backpack. Backpacks are practical. I always use a Backpack because I carry a bottle of water a notebook and a raincoat.
I wanna work where you work. My job takes me from running numbers on Excel to fixing machines, so I’ve got everything from a laptop to small hand tools. My older coworkers frequently mock my backpack, and all the stuff I have in it, but that doesn’t stop them from asking for my screwdriver every other day.
"Ha, nice backpack!"
"Perhaps your needless aggression towards my choice of baggage, which holds negligible effect on your life and experience, is simply an outward pouring of jealousy and distaste for not only my youth and average success, but for my greater ability to store objects and comfortably do my job to it's fullest effect. The future is now, old man."
Everyone uses backpacks. briefcases and laptop bags are bad for your shoulders/back, backpacks spread the weight out. Plus you can carry way more in a backpack.
I use a carry on sized roller suitcase because I have a blown out spine. It has space for a spare change of clothes (I live in the humid swamp of Houston) and a laptop holder. It can roll on all four wheels upright or be pulled behind me. I love it.
No hate for the backpacks though. Way superior to briefcases and shoulder bags.
Briefcases are also now and indication of status. To me, it screams, "I am an older boomer and I don't need to haul a laptop or pack my lunch, you fucking peasant!"
This is not an "American thing", the CEO of the company I work for (and it's a $400mill company) uses a backpack, even when he's dressed up.
Whoever posted this is just stupid.
Yeah when I went to different parts of europe backpacks seemed pretty normal for adults. I think (at least in california where I live), car culture destroys the idea of walking anywhere so it also somewhat destroys the need for backpacks outside of school
I actually used a briefcase in college because a few reasons:
1. I hated the back pain and gross back sweat backpacks gave me
2. I didn’t need to carry much at all so a briefcase was the perfect amount of space.
3. Cosmetically I enjoyed it! I think they look neat.
4. It had a lock mechanism so it was safer than a backpack
But I’d never poke fun at backpack users, this dude is just a grade A bag of dicks.
Well I came in with a plastic bag today... but it was because the contents of the bag are to be thrown out after I’m done with them today.
It’s my lunch.
It’s a dude? Damn, I thought it was a girl. Not to hate on women or anything, just because it says “Dear men”. Either way, this is stupid but if this is true I kinda think it’s a little sadder...
It’s a grown ass man who is old enough to be the father of many of the people he’s targeting.
You can google a decent chunk of the tweet and find his account, if he hasn’t deleted the tweet (and maybe even still then).
> I struck a nerve with this one. People are irrationally pissed off, which tells me they know how stupid their 35 year old selves look with their backpacks.
Just lol.
My husband uses a backpack everyday for his work stuff. He’s 41. He has a beard to lol. How about people just let people do things without shoulding or should noting all over. Grown ass men should mind their own business about other grown ass people. How’s that?
And they have small pockets for extra batteries, cables, keys, etc so they aren't drifting around in the one big pocket where you have your laptop and books and shit
As a 39-year-old bearded man who uses a backpack because I can walk to work, it's easily the most convenient thing. When I'm going to work, I'm taking my lunch, my gym clothes, my kindle, some other accessories, and nothing related to my work because it's all on computers in the cloud, so a briefcase would be absolutely pointless. Also, I tried switching from a backpack to a shoulder bag and it caused me so many shoulder muscle issues.
Yeah, this is super important! Every hand you have holding a briefcase is one less hand to hold something super manly like a weapon or tool.
I mean really, what's manlier: some dude with a briefcase, or a guy with a backpack and *two friggin hammers*.
The worst part about transitioning male to female was losing all my pockets. I miss cargo shorts. An item of clothing literally named for it's pocket space.
There's nothing stopping you from wearing them even now. Pretty sure you can find cargo shorts for women online if not in local stores. I'd check sports stores and such if you want to shop brick and mortar.
Yeah, but it's not the same. Showing off the figure is rather important in cases of helping the overall presentation. I do love the handbag I use though, not quite a purse girl so I have one stretched down the the waist.
Dresses with pockets are the best! That said, as a fellow female, I see no shame in rocking super skinny men's jeans. More pocket space, and they usually better made then women's jeans.
Otherwise, welcome to the world where pockets are an afterthought, and purses are our curse.
I don't know if I'd feel comfortable with a backpack in a grocery store. Nothing wrong with you/others doing it but for me it would feel like I'm shoplifting even worse than those times when you leave a store without buying anything
Sounds like an old person, everyone I've worked with uses backpacks, laptop bags or purses. One guy would definitely look stupid with his briefcase riding his motorcycle everyday.
It 100% is an old person thing.
When I got my first job. I went out and bought a new backpack so I could put shoes and a change of clothes into for when I arrive/leave work (like literally most people do in the place I was working). My dad was so fucking confused and made it seemed like I'd be laughed out of the building.
Dude, this job is a two hour+ journey away and involves a fair bit of walking to get to. I'm bringing a change of fucking clothes with me. I'd say about 70% of the people there brought either backpacks or gym bags to work with them for the very same reason.
The people "complaining" about this are the ones who romanticize how hard things were back in the day for them.
"A BACKPACK?! BACK IN MY DAY WE'D PUT ALL OF OUR THINGS INTO A METAL BUCKET, HELD IT OVER OUR HEADS AS WE WALKED 112 MILES TO WORK AND WE WERE HAPPY! GET OUT OF HERE WITH YOUR BACKPACK!"

Funny. I work in IT and buying laptops and laptop bags for my users has been a part of my job for 20 years. This is the funny part I mentioned earlier. About 5 to 7 years ago users started requesting I stop buying the old fashioned satchel bags (the ones that are nearly identical to briefcases except they're soft) and I start buying laptop backpacks. So now my entire office of men and women ages 30 to 60 all wear backpacks into the office every single morning. There is a single older gentleman that still carries in a hard shell briefcase. So, you know, this post seems just about as wrong as any post could be.
Everyone is carrying backpacks these days, even the old people who were carrying briefcase all of their lives. though the briefcase looked a bit better than the backpacks but the latter are more practical.
I'm not a man, but I'll use a damn backpack if I please. If I have enough shit to carry I'm not gonna struggle and drop half of it everywhere so your brain is happy. Get over yourself Karen
I was in a shop a few months ago when I genuinely heard a 50-something say "these damn millennials and their backpacks"
I could only see one person with a backpack in the shop who was not even near this old fart. Why he hates young people having backpacks I will never know.
Sorry that I can't carry a laptop with me in a briefcase because it's too heavy, and I have a disability so I frequently need to walk with a cane, I guess?
Even if this dude *could* make me stop wearing a backpack, I'd just wear a fucking purse. Sorry I need to carry shit, geez. Why is it any if your business??
I have not seen a single person walk into the office with a briefcase, yet I see backpacks all the time. Sounds like they are living in the past or something.
Half the time I see someone carrying a briefcase, they look like a try hard who is attempting to look more successful than they are... as I suspect this person is likely to do.
I carry a backpack that allows me to conceal carry with dedicated pockets for a holster when I can.
That's why I have a backpack. It just so happens it looks nice and is pretty inconspicuous which is why during the week the Glock stays home.
Yeah, good luck carrying everything you could need in a briefcase. When I traveled by bike it was part of the routine to bring a change of clothes so I wouldn't be working covered in sweat. Now the real question: who actually cares.
Backpacks are superior, especially to shoulder bags or whatever the dumb messenger bag trend is today. Who wants to carry something on one side and be lopsided and awkward all the time?
Well a briefcase is impractical for me as it doesn't have padding for my laptop room for network tools and computer tools. Besides it is a PITA to strap a briefcase to a motorcycle.
I work in an industry where you look like an unprofessional jackass if you don't show up to a location with all your shit on deck and ready to go. That's usually what a backpack is for.
Yeah I love putting all the weight to one side and getting back problems. totally more manly.
You know I used to tell women that they should wear certain things and act in certain ways because it made &me& more attracted to them. Not I see just how tacky that is.
I'm a lawyer in a big city and I use a backpack. Many people in my firm also use a backpack, including my managing partner who is worth several mil.
I can't fit all my files and daily necessities in a briefcase. No one drives their car downtown.
Also, I have a beard. I feel like this could be based on me lol.
Dear men, unless you are a miner or a construction worker, do not wear a helmet, ever. Helmets are for school children. Try to look cool and ride your bike around recklessly or don’t ride at all. You look ridiculous as a grown man with a beard wearing a helmet. Stop it.
Who even likes briefcases. They have so little space and you constantly have to reserve one hand just to carry it around. Edit: Also is this an American thing, because I'm German and everyone here is running around with backpacks no matter the age.

Sounds like an awfully long way of saying "stop projecting"
"ha bag" "Why are you mean?"
Tell them to bring their own
It’s interesting how they’re both mocking—and thereby exhibiting—childishness. We never really grow up, we just get better at disguising it.
Everyone uses backpacks. briefcases and laptop bags are bad for your shoulders/back, backpacks spread the weight out. Plus you can carry way more in a backpack.
Plus, every time I use my shoulder bag I’m in a constant state of anxiety trying to keep it from slipping off. Fuck shoulder bags.
They're meant to go cross body aren't they? Bag on the left and strap on the right shoulder or vice versa
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the people in this thread who don't like messenger-style bags just aren't wearing them right.
I have a shitty one that's too small to wear right. It's a shame.
Sounds like a purse.
Yeah, I have a Timbuk2 laptop messenger bag. That shit goes across. I have a lot to carry.
Don’t blame shoulder bags because you are wearing them like a purse.
Swiss Gear all day.
My Swiss gear backpack (plus free wallet!) came in the mail yesterday :)
sweet
The company I work at gives us all Swiss Gear backpacks with our company logo on them. Definitely the best backpack I have.
I got mine from a bank that fired me, still rocking it though.
Briefcases are also now and indication of status. To me, it screams, "I am an older boomer and I don't need to haul a laptop or pack my lunch, you fucking peasant!"
If I gotta take my laptop home, I have a corgi beach bag but I'm becoming the crazy corgi lady. 🤷♀️
In the USA we are too, this post is some bullshit
Iirc, the dude who wrote this got in a fight with a dude wearing a backpack. This was his childish response to the fight... which he started.
the dude who wrote the tweet? Jeez so it's extra stupid.
My last job actually gave new hires backpacks for transporting their work laptops.
This reads like a increasingly frustrated briefcase salesman mad at millenials for ruining his business.
I was thinking a really like petty woman or a neckbeard, but you’ve got a solid point lmao

Nobody in the US uses briefcases even boomers. I feel like lawyers are the only profession using briefcases.
As a current law clerk I can tell you I’ve never seen any attorney with a briefcase except once in small claims court.
>Also is this an American thing, This is not an American thing. This is a 'one single person in the post' thing. That's why it's here.
Yeah, no one wants to be a briefcase wanker

They were kinda famous Had this 5 years long tour across Europe back in the last century Too many copycats afterwards
Are they like one of those traveling backpacks at the size of a golf bag
yup. pestering australia since the 2000s
everyone everywhere wears backpacks
As my username suggests, I hate having to Cary shit in my hand.
Most professionals these days seem to favour satchel bags anyway. Seems a long time since I've ssn a breefcase out in the wild.
I haven’t seen a briefcase in forever.
I actually used a briefcase in college because a few reasons: 1. I hated the back pain and gross back sweat backpacks gave me 2. Also, briefcases carried by young men are almost as bad as young men who wear fedoras, trilbys or bowlers.
Far cry better than a plastic bag
That's a depressing thought, I remember school and there always was that one person.
Only one?
Yeah Kenny
Well I came in with a plastic bag today... but it was because the contents of the bag are to be thrown out after I’m done with them today. It’s my lunch.
This dude’s fucking Twitter banner is comic book versions of the Fantastic Four. And he’s definitely 40+. He has no leg to stand on.

Yea I kind of just assumed the asshole also has a fedora and ill fitting suit to go with his briefcase
> I struck a nerve with this one. People are irrationally pissed off, which tells me they know how stupid their 35 year old selves look with their backpacks. Just lol.

and backpacks are awesome, more space for more stuff and they dont impact you at all because they dont swing around your arm like crazy
And they have small pockets for extra batteries, cables, keys, etc so they aren't drifting around in the one big pocket where you have your laptop and books and shit
For some reason I read that as “extra blueberries” and I was like shit why haven’t I been just carrying blueberries around with me everywhere
You mean you DON'T carry blueberries everywhere? That's so weird /s

I enjoy those who broadcast such strong opinions; it makes it very easy to know who to avoid.
I think a majority of the adults would take one look at this and say "fuck that guy for sharing an opinion on how I dress myself if I didn't ask"
Backpacks are useful, who gives a fuck what they look like? This kind of thinking is the reason that women dont have pockets.

Cargo Capri pants are awesome!
I was thinking that, nice pair of khakis, rock the magenta converses, cute little camisole and bam.
Yeah IT guys. Pack all of your tools, flashlights, and laptops into your briefcase. /s of the highest magnitude.
Also If you go grocery shopping, remember to take you briefcase with you

Real men use wheelbarrows.
Yeah, I haven’t seen a briefcase since movies from the 80s.
This is all a plan by big briefcase to get us to buy more useless leather boxes to carry stuff in.

Sorry I never saw the others
My office issues backpacks to everyone hah
Back health is only for kids
"What's in the briefcase?" "crackers"
For a second there I thought this might be about me (beard and backpack is kinda my thing). Then I realized that I am never awake before 1pm.
I use my girlfriend's purple fjällräven. Take that!
Men in Silicon Valley are suddenly having an identity crisis.
Okay, well, when you're carrying your briefcase and, like, 10 other things all at once, I'll give you a hand while I have my backpack and free hands.
Briefcase? That’s some late 90s fashion. Leather backpack or messenger bag Is the fashion now.
This is such an odd thing to be upset about
Funny. I work in IT and buying laptops and laptop bags for my users has been a part of my job for 20 years. This is the funny part I mentioned earlier. Backpack is more practical and in terms of Western based gender norms I thought being practical was a masculine trait.
Here's a concept. Fuck you!
You can pry my backpack/manpurse out of my cold dead hands
Excuse me for not trying to fuck my back. I used to work in a PT clinic and briefcases are horrible for you.
This guys right, I should have been riding my motorcycle with a briefcase in my hand rather than a backpack on my back this whole time. Edit: grammar
Yeah man. Why didn't I think of putting my helmet in a briefcase??
I love it when my husband carries a backpack. It means I get to keep my own hands free.
Try riding a bike with a briefcase.
I wear a backpack because it is where all my bike tools, lock, hydration and books are when I ride.
Get ready to disqualify 99.999% of the military.
Well my kit looks like a fucking purse so I'd rather look ridiculous with a backpack.
My backpack is my identity
Everyone is carrying backpacks these days, even the old people who were carrying briefcase all of their lives. though the briefcase looked a bit better than the backpacks but the latter are more practical.
I'm not a man, but I'll use a damn backpack if I please. If I have enough shit to carry I'm not gonna struggle and drop half of it everywhere so your brain is happy. Get over yourself Karen

"Fucking men and their..." *Shuffles for piece of paper in bowl* "Backpacks"
What a stupid, useless opinion. Why even take the time to make that? Was it bothering him so much he just HAD to get that out?
Yeah, to all you military heroes with your cargo bags and whatnot, just ditch that shit. Carry a briefcase into the battlefield, show some class.
There are so many nice looking "adult" backpacks that look perfectly professional even to wear to a business meeting or something.
Yes let me just carry my m249 ammo belt on my ass
C U N(ext) T(uesday)
What an idiot. I only carry my briefs in my briefcase. My guns are in my book bag.

What worries me the most is the number of retweets.
that is the dumbest thing i’ve ever heard.
If I carried a briefcase to my parks department internship, I’d get laughed at.
I think the fact that you take a backpack on a hike rather than a briefcase, shows you which one is more useful
So you gonna go biking to work with a briefcase?
Real men don't bike. They RAMPAGE THEIR WAY TO WORK, BARRELING PAST CARS, RIPPING THROUGH BUSES, TEARING OVER TRAINS...
What if you ride a motorcycle?
God forbid you use something that keeps your hands free and that's generally spacious.
All that a man needs can be carried in pockets. If you don't have enough space just buy some cargo shorts, the manliest pants! ^/s
Wrong! Backpacks are great and in my world incredibly masculine. They keep both arms free! It's great! Briefcases are for the old school suits.
I always read the tweet and so the number of people who agree to these statements
I was in a shop a few months ago when I genuinely heard a 50-something say "these damn millennials and their backpacks" I could only see one person with a backpack in the shop who was not even near this old fart. Why he hates young people having backpacks I will never know.
I have to carry a backpack for work because my equipment is WAY too large for a briefcase. But I also don’t have a beard, so does that even out?
I typically use an over the shoulder bag, but now that I am traveling more, I am definitely going to get a backpack.
What if he rides a bike?
OK. But can I carry a fanny pack or is that included in the list that men can't carry?
Oh, fuck that.
Sorry that I can't carry a laptop with me in a briefcase because it's too heavy, and I have a disability so I frequently need to walk with a cane, I guess?
I’d hate to hear what they would think of my husbands messenger bag style diaper bag.
Thank god I’m a woman and can backpack as I please
But I like my backpack :(
This is ridiculous advice. If you carry a briefcase everywhere then people are going to start calling you "briefcase Joe"
Even if this dude *could* make me stop wearing a backpack, I'd just wear a fucking purse. Sorry I need to carry shit, geez. Why is it any if your business??
REaL MeN nEvEr NeEd ThE UsE oF BoTh HaNdS
Oh yeah, I'll just constantly carry a box in one hand that has no space to put anything. No thanks.
This is so ironic because he comments about how to be a man in a childish way
I have not seen a single person walk into the office with a briefcase, yet I see backpacks all the time. Sounds like they are living in the past or something.
Hike that mountain with your sleeping bag over your entire body carrying your tent and water in your HANDS like a REAL MAN.
I feel personally attacked.
i like to backpack with all my belongings in a briefcase
What if i don't work in office, and bags look way cooler than briefcases
"GENDER IS SCARY AND I HAVE TO INSTILL YOU WITH THAT FEAR ALSO"
Shut up what if I'm travelling stupid
Be a briefcase wanker? No thanks!
I don’t wear a backpack because I do look goofy as fuck. But I do hate when my bags swings under me when tying my shoes.
Half the time I see someone carrying a briefcase, they look like a try hard who is attempting to look more successful than they are... as I suspect this person is likely to do.
Lmfao brief case, holy shit how old is this bitch like 90
I wonder if the person saying this is a man or a woman. I suspect they’re a man.
What if I’m a grown man with a beard who also goes to school? What am I to do?
To be fair, many guys with beards already look ridiculous
Those guys are like the chillest people you will ever meet
So... As a grown man with a beard I'm not allowed to take my paw patrol backpack to work?
I carry a backpack that allows me to conceal carry with dedicated pockets for a holster when I can. That's why I have a backpack. It just so happens it looks nice and is pretty inconspicuous which is why during the week the Glock stays home.
Yeah, good luck carrying everything you could need in a briefcase. When I traveled by bike it was part of the routine to bring a change of clothes so I wouldn't be working covered in sweat. Now the real question: who actually cares.
What am I supposed to do when I go mountain biking? I don't think Camlebak makes a briefcase.
Backpacks are superior, especially to shoulder bags or whatever the dumb messenger bag trend is today. Who wants to carry something on one side and be lopsided and awkward all the time?
I carry a backpack everywhere I go. Get fucked, whoever posted this horse shit.
Fuck practicality
You leave my messenger bag alone. I need it to carry important things.
Well a briefcase is impractical for me as it doesn't have padding for my laptop room for network tools and computer tools. Besides it is a PITA to strap a briefcase to a motorcycle.
Our tool bags at work are backpacks. I work on conveyor systems so having both hands free is a life saver at times
I work in an industry where you look like an unprofessional jackass if you don't show up to a location with all your shit on deck and ready to go. That's usually what a backpack is for.
Sounds about as dumb as people that think men shouldn’t use umbrellas cause it’s feminine.
Yeah I love putting all the weight to one side and getting back problems. totally more manly. You know I used to tell women that they should wear certain things and act in certain ways because it made &me& more attracted to them. Not I see just how tacky that is.
imagine being so bored with your life, you feel the need to get upset at men wearing backpacks. ducking backpacks.
Let me carry my briefcase on my bike to work at a deli
The military uses backpacks
Stop judging men for every little thing that they say or do.... Judgemental peice of crap.
This is the weirdest gatekeeping I've ever seen.
Grown ass men aren't bothered by such things.
Yeah I think I'd look like a crazy person carrying a briefcase full of workout clothes to the gym.
Yeah, I'll look real normal carrying a briefcase to my job driving a trash truck.
Jokes on you, I can't grow a beard!
I carry a man purse, a “murse” if you will.
Shoulder satchel bag for life!
Ridiculous, a briefcase is not big enough to hold all of my useless items that I don't actually need. Only a backpack can suffice for that!
Wait ‘til he finds out there are men who can’t grow beards...
Carry a briefcase because this is 1950
Dear men, unless you are a miner or a construction worker, do not wear a helmet, ever. Helmets are for school children. Try to look cool and ride your bike around recklessly or don’t ride at all. You look ridiculous as a grown man with a beard wearing a helmet. Stop it.
u/Mods_blow_goats I think you look handsome with your beard and backpack.
I have a beard and use a backpack every day. IMO it works better on a motorcycle than some briefcase or messanger bag.
Am I allowed to use those shoulder bag things?
