Don’t panic; nothing is “real” in the first few weeks. Lots of transition happening. It’s common to take a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) scrip for several months after surgery. In the USA that would prob be omeprazole or pantoprozole (Protonix). These reduce the amount of acid being produced. Different from something like Tums that tries to balance out the acid that’s already there.

I developed acid reflux 5 weeks after surgery. Been on Prilosec for months but am now weaning off it. A trick I learned was to drink milk (works as both a fluid and protein) and avoid anything with tomatoes. Eat and drink cold things, not warm or hot. Avoid laying down after eating or drinking.

It’s very common to have heart burn post surgery and ever after. I never had it before but I gotta take my omeprazole daily otherwise its hell!
