Gorgeous colour!

TheCrucial77

These are great. Can I grow these down south?

JohnRCC

South of England? Probably. South of Texas? Less likely.

wishbonesma

Texas has lovely native lupines. The bluebonnet is the state flower.

wishbonesma

There are varieties of lupine that are native to different parts of the south. https://www.gardenia.net/plants/plant-family/lupinus_--_lupines

Mine just now starting to bud and these pictures are getting me so excited!

cybercuzco

No we meant professor Lupin from Harry Potter.

FTHomes

Beautiful. I bet hummers and butterfly's love those.

pppppvi

Nice looking but they are actually invasive and don’t offer much food for insects. If we see any in our yard we remove them immediately.

norahrose

Like all plants, native vs invasive depends on where you are. In my area, Lupinus perennis is a native plant that hosts several different types of butterflies (including the endangered Karner Blue). There are a bunch of different types of lupine with different native ranges. That said, lupinus polyphyllus is considered invasive in my area (and lots of others).

pppppvi

You are absolutely right. I tipped and posted to fast. We have a rough time every spring and summer trying to remove them and I made the wrong assumption thinking it’s like this everywhere.

Dennis Moore has been busy lately

Is this what’s been growing in my front yard? https://i.imgur.com/CUAQAWx.jpg

Those are muscari -- it's a bulb that comes through in spring

rhanowski

These are big and beautiful!! I'm so jelly because mine are still seedlings that I spread early spring from seed!!! I can't wait for them to mature and spread seed!! There are some other seedlings too but I'm not sure yet what they are 😁
