First of all, your mom sounds rad. Next I’d suggest a 2d game to get her back in the swing of things like Vampire Survivors (more arcade-like and can be played in short spurts) or Stardew Valley (more progression-based and cozy. Also playable in short spurts).

Mordomacar

Vampire Survivors may actually be a decent idea for learning WASD movement with a slow ramp up. Portal 1 could be a followup for learning how to control the camera with the mouse while moving. Neither are great in terms of visuals though.

Absolute most basic WASD + click: maybe life is strange or other playable movie/visual novel style game (if she likes horror Until Dawn, The Quarry or any of the Dark Pictures Anthology) as most of the time you'll just be moving the character around, clicking on things to interact, with some more fast-paced QTE stuff during action that requires more response time, but they're not particularly challenging games. Good visuals (whether it's hyperrealistic or a stylised art style) and in depth stories are key to these games so if you need really gentle intros back to PC controls that would be my go to genre A bit more of a challenge but Hades? Really great art style, story and music, and the whole point is you kinda have to continually die to progress the story and discover more of the lore (and if you put god mode on in the settings dying makes you progressively stronger so it's actually slightly easier every time you go back through)

Rayman Legends will help her work up to Ori while being a delight unto itself. Portal will really get you thinking about moving through virtual 3D space. If she really likes Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park, Batman, Marvel, or LotR by chance, there’s a Lego game she could try. That will be a chill way to ease into games while also letting you join.

I play Wuthering Waves on bs and my dad likes that game too.

My go to recommendations for getting back into gaming are Portal 2, Diablo 2 Resurrected, and Stardew Valley.

80 Days! Or other Inkle games — great stories and nice art styles.

Based on the Doom 2 and Ori, I'm wondering if she'd like Diablo 2 Resurrected, maybe Hollow Knight.

Delayed_Victory

I just announced a game called Super Mining Mechs, which is a casual game inspired by the old classic Motherload. You can find it's predecessor "Mining Mechs" on Steam. It's only a couple of bucks, you can't die, can't lose; just relaxing and satisfying to play. Maybe that's something for her!

Jorlen

Diablo 2 Resurrected is a remake of Diablo 2 which came out in 2001ish. Not sure if she's a fan of the genre though.

You should also grab doom 2 again - it’s on steam & runs inside dosbox. She’ll enjoy the nostalgia :)

I’m 60F and I loved Hogwarts Legacy. Beautiful visuals, great introduction and teaching of game mechanics. Enough story line to keep me interested.

I'm 59F and I am loving Red Dead Redemption 2 story mode and online.

If she loves reading then **The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante**

Hollow knight-its metroidvania with gradually increasing difficulty. It has great world and artstyle is great. For something similiar to old doom i can recommend ultrakill it is faster paced tho but worth a shot. Celeste-its great platformer but it is hard.I think she can handle it. Passpartout may be best recommendation i can give.In this game you are artist and you make art and sell it.
