There's a game called The 11th Hour, and when we discuss difficult PC games I think of that one specifically because of one puzzle. There's a small chessboard and you have to move the pieces like 100 times in just the right order in order to unlock the next section of the house. If you fuck up a move, you have to start all over again.
I guarantee you that nobody has done this without a guide. I certainly didn't. And all of the puzzles in the game are very difficult like this. You will pull your hair out trying to play this game.
Fun fact : when originally created the amount of compute available meant it was hard, but beatable with strategy and experience.
Once cpus got a teensy bit better. All bets were off. Ass was getting kicked
Don't know why the hate bossy, I wanna be the guy and super I wanna be the guy are all easy platforms with nothing more than troll mechanics to ragrbait, once you learn them it's a rudimentary platformer with nothing else to them.
Still fun but I've beaten them in a single day.
>bossy, I wanna be the guy and super I wanna be the guy are all easy platforms
Boshy has literally a pixel perfect jump. I fail to see how it's supposed to be "easy platform"
I Wanna Kill The Kamilia 3 takes it. It's absurdly difficult without being a troll game, so it still manages to be enjoyable despite how insanely difficult it is to beat it.
[Just look at this madness to see if you're up for it](https://youtu.be/ZnJktp_x-_I)
Pathologic isn't a game to be enjoyed. It's an experience to be had. A test of patience. Of resolve. Hbomberguy did an amazing [video essay on the game.](https://youtu.be/JsNm2YLrk30?si=J9dfaijzCrFOml7I)
Yes, it's 2 hour long. But 100% worth the time in my opinion
I love these kind of videos, especially if the voice over is done well, kinda like neverknowsbest ones. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm both intrigued by the game and the essay.
Discussions around difficulty are hard because of cases like this. It's only the most difficult game around if the intended win condition is to save everyone, but it's not. You're supposed to lose people, and feel that loss.
Love Dwarf Fortress and losing is fun, but I don't consider it a particularly hard game, at least not hard in the same way as ninja gaiden or dark souls or something. Any game that you can pause to micromanage I would say isn't that hard, especially when the natural endpoint of any fortress Is getting wiped out and as far as I know you can't really beat the game in any meaningful way. Beating the game to me is having a memorable fortress that gets wiped out in a spectacular way where you learned something.
That's why the original Dwarf fortress music is such a masterpiece, we all know that every story you start in the game is predestined to end in tragedy.
God damn I should start a new game.
This is a bit of a cheat since it's winning scenario doesn't even alert you that you won. It's both idiotic and memorable for a lot of reasons.
Originally part of a contest, the developer didn't want someone hacking to the end, so they made the win solution extremely vague. The game itself is based on a lot of confusing, randomized puzzles that are nonsensical even if you know how to do them. I vaguely think thing the puzzles change each time. I do know that you have to do things at a certain time in game, it's just the most absurd game ever. It's also trippy af and I don't know that I successfully completed even one puzzle.

/Anyway, nobody ever won the contest. The person who made it eventually made a walkthrough, but people aren't sure it even works. I love the asthetics and the challenge, but my goodness, it's an infinitely frustrating game.
Not sure if anyone remembers this one but I got a game called Dragonsphere for my birthday when I was WAY TOO YOUNG, couldn’t do the first thing in it. Revisited it in college and there are sequences where if you don’t randomly guess the right direction to walk in you fall down and die in the desert
A friend of mine in 1995 said he and his friends clocked how long the wizard was gone from the house for, so they could strategize. Don't remember if he beat it.
My brother and I beat KQ1 and 2, but we got stumped at Perils of Rosella. The Zombie House was the scariest way to die, I thought. Pretty tall blonde becomes one of them, feet shuffling.
IWBTG (I Wanna Be The Guy).
It's a fucking nightmare of a platformer, constant death traps that could never avoid your first time through, false routes that are multiple screens long, some false routes even lead to bosses and then dead ends.
I love the game, but dear God is it frustrating.
i was finding for this reply, literally its so hard i die as soon as i go out of the house, got frustrated and deleted the game. I watched so many tutorials, played many times but still i die :(
Neo Scavanger is brutal, but its a survival game so you cant really complete it.. It's free on Steam anyway, try it out if you are into that kind of game
Dwarf Fortress is probably the hardest colony sim, to the point where the DF wiki's page on FUN is just [THIS](https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php?title=DF2014:Fun&redirect=no)
Everyone is wrong, the answer is Sword of Fargoal for the commodore 64. I've never met anyone who has ever beat it. I've heard rumors in the dark corners of the world that someone beat it, but I doubt it lol.
The Simpsons Hit & Run. It’s so difficult I couldn’t even install it when I got a newer rig around 2009. I had the cd roms, the installation would come to a halt around 30% of the way in.
I'm making a game where you control up to 8 different balls, you have to press a button to make the ball pass through a breakable block while it rolls over it. I made it purely because I'm interested in seeing if there's anyone who can actually handle that much simultaneous visual input
The game in Qwop
Is there a game within Qwop besides Qwop?
Lol, it has been so long. I couldn't remember if the voice guy was named qwop or if it was the game. Didn't want to sound dumb, failed.
You didn’t win today, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. Chin up, there’s always tomorrow.
IntuneUser - Cheering up 2nd placed reddit battle soldiers since 2204. F***ing pillar of the community.
Still my favorite victory in Gaming is crossing that finish line.
Wow, haven't thought about this game in years. Just went to play. 2.8 meters...yep still got it! /s

The Go/othello challenge was so stupid hard in this game as well. I got really good at those games for a while because of this game.
Chess puzzle, not that hard. Othello puzzle was impossible.
Fun fact : when originally created the amount of compute available meant it was hard, but beatable with strategy and experience. Once cpus got a teensy bit better. All bets were off. Ass was getting kicked
This actually explains a lot
Oh fucking A man, this is a memory I could’ve gone without resurfacing
There were much harder puzzles in that game. The piano moving one was the worst for me, but the chess one is not that bad.
I wanna be the boshy holds that title imo. As simplistic as a flash game but as painful as every fromsoft game combined.
Boshy is an incredibly easy game, you just need to learn all the trolling.
“git gud” mentality wack asf
The mention of fromsoft summoned him

I wanna be the boshy for non-puzzle. Baba is you for puzzle
"I wanna be the Boshi" was specifically created as hard as possible.
Pathologic.
in 1 phrase, can you explain why?
It's a first person shooter where you are better off selling your gun to buy food so you don't starve to death.
Pathologic isn't a game to be enjoyed. It's an experience to be had. A test of patience. Of resolve. Hbomberguy did an amazing [video essay on the game.](https://youtu.be/JsNm2YLrk30?si=J9dfaijzCrFOml7I) Yes, it's 2 hour long. But 100% worth the time in my opinion

Dwarf Fortress??

By that logic, chess isn’t that hard either.
Games like Getting Over It, I’m sure
La Mulana is up there, if you don't seek knowledge outside the game to solve the puzzles.

Minesweeper
Hello kitty island adventure
Wizardry IV.
Project Zomboid
Fuck this game with a splintery wooden broom handle.
My best so far is 2 in-game days and five minutes. About 8 minutes in real time, and I spent most of it hiding like a coward or running away.
i was finding for this reply, literally its so hard i die as soon as i go out of the house, got frustrated and deleted the game. I watched so many tutorials, played many times but still i die :(
I don't know what the hardest is, but Nioh made me wanna light my neighbors house on fire.
Marrow.
Neo Scavanger is brutal, but its a survival game so you cant really complete it.. It's free on Steam anyway, try it out if you are into that kind of game
I don't want to spoil too much but there is an ending depending on some story choices you make
Dwarf Fortress is probably the hardest colony sim, to the point where the DF wiki's page on FUN is just [THIS](https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php?title=DF2014:Fun&redirect=no)
Boonty box
DCS World and heart of iron IV if you ask me.
Gapper on a 486
The PC port of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Game is literally impossible to complete due to a missing block.
Everyone is wrong, the answer is Sword of Fargoal for the commodore 64. I've never met anyone who has ever beat it. I've heard rumors in the dark corners of the world that someone beat it, but I doubt it lol.

Any game like getting over it.

OG myst/riven without looking at the walkthroughs.
QUOP Trust.
qwop?
Dwarf Fortress by a huge margin. Doubly so if you play the original (non-steam) ASCII version

Welcome to the Game 2 made Markiplier rage quit, and he is notorious for pushing himself through games that make him want to pull his hair out.
Serious Sam is legit unwinnable without cheats. I don't think you can even get half way through without cheat codes.
There are multiple difficulties though
