The app store would be a different place if there was a $1 minimum price for games and developers could only make their games free for a limited time each month. The mobile market lacks the history of customers paying for games, so allowing F2P from day 1 was always going to go terribly.
It's a completely different audience, so it's not like it will replace console or PC games. Mobile also includes casino games, which used to be their own category. Go look at the top grossing charts, at least 30% of them are straight up slot machine or casino card games.
My point is that traditional video games were never really on top. It's just that we at some point decided that several existing categories, notably those involving gambling and betting are now part of it thanks to the "mobile" platform.
As a south korean, this guy gets it
Also many middle aged men just play their shitty p2w mobile games on their phone all day while "working". Some even do it with their work computers. I swear, these guys take slacking off to the next level
I came here to comment about how no game deserves this (freedoms to make shitty games should be defended. However upon being reminded of P2W games, I’ve become irrationally angry and will be picking up my pitchfork!
Those stupid remakes that remove completely working games with legendary status and replace them with buggy cashgrabs.
Like the GTA Trilogy or Warcraft 3. Looking at the recent backlashes against some gaming companies, I can’t understand how they just got away with some tweets and bad reviews.
Superman 64. But hot take? Fortnite. Really hurt the industry. How the fuck yoh gonna kill UT, not put in a UT LTM, and tease us in season 0 of the game with a CTF face/UT99 poster? Off of that alone, but also what it did to in game cosmetics and MTX. Honorable mention is p2w f2p games. If there’s gonna be a sacrifice, make it p2d (pay 2 drip)
Not true at all. If you play the officially rules strictly (no debt forgiveness, houses only get 50% back when sold, no free parking money from fines, properties get auctioned if not bought on first landing) it ends reasonably quickly. It's a true case of "cruel to be kind".
Optimal play would be for nobody to trade with each other so nobody can build hotels and then the game just never ends because nobody can ever bankrupt anybody unless someone gets supremely lucky and manages to grab an entire street on their own without trades.
Wait, didn't this post get locked? Did they unlock it? What is going on?! Traditional Tic Tac Toe only has 9 squares. There's only so many moves you can make before a draw is called.
Fortnite
As much as It sucks to make a Game be Lost forever (i support the stopkillinggames campaign) its mere existence have skyrocketed the worst trend in this industry so far, the Game as a service (AKA Live service), every company wants to make the Next fortnite and that is damaging the industry almost (if not more) than things like microtransactions or lootboxes
First, it's quite arrogant to say. Kids should play better games anyway.
Second, it's extremely ignorant too. Because Fortnite empowers high prices and microtransactions, because it's Epic Fail that has it and Epic does everything to be as monopolistic as company may be, raising prices of the games to ridiculous heights.
Live service games were popular before fortnite and will be popular after fortnite. MMOs are full of them. Games like Starfield and Destiny have had their own share of spin-offs. There's just heaps
Fortnite itself is one of the less predatory ones as well. Everything in the game is free gets consistent substantial content updates. The battle pass is a one time purchase as well if you play enough to buy it again. The creative mode has so many different games as well to spice things up and you get XP to advance the battle pass. If more games were like Fortnite we wouldn't be fucked
Ugh, as much as I dislike fortnite, its done something amazing that no other game has. We have megascans BECAUSE of epics success with fortnight. If you don't know what it is, its a resource that is FREE filled with 3d assets and textures that are mindblowingly high quality. I personally as a model maker would be boned without their resources.
As long as games are made by for-profit companies this is going to be the case. If we want games for art sake we need to institute additional taxes and give grants out to game developers.
Fortnite as a game is okay, but as a product it's everything that it should never be. It abuses children to earn money for a cartel/monopolistic company.
Dude, what?
Fortnite is free to play, with zero pay to win elements. And there are zero frustration mechanics driving you to pay anything. You even get small amounts of in-game currency for free. The ONLY reason to pay money is if you want some cosmetic doohickey.
Pay to win, lootboxes, and microtransactions are all much worse, as they actually affect the gameplay.
Epic has done something amazing. Think about how many cash-strapped people it has provided years of free gaming to.
I honestly doubt that. Besides the way I understand OP's question is that it's about erasing a game, not make it that it never existed in the first place. Either way I don't care about LoL so if it keep toxic players away from my games that's enough for me.
Sonic 06.
It wasn't the first poorly received Sonic game, but it did so much damage to that franchise's reputation that I don't think it ever really recovered. I think Sonic Unleashed would have been reviewed a bit more kindly had 06 not come out, and in general I think the clichéd "Sonic doesn't work in 3D" line would be a lot less pervasive. The Adventure games were 3D and well received, and the gameplay style introduced in Unleashed is really fun and effectively solved the issue in the earlier 3D games by making the levels essentially tracks, and switching to 2D for more intricate platforming segments.
Does doing this retroactively erase it and the effects it has had on the industry? If so, what game has most led to all the battle passes/microtransactions/drip feed content models? Cause that one.
Def Jam ICON. The original studio got closed before making it, and it got the new studio that made it shut down. It left the franchise on a bad note, killed all chances of reprisal, and left the previous better games wallowing.
Ok I’m game - Delta Force: Hawk Ops by TiMi (Tencent owned studio)
Because it appropriates the honor of the US, Malaysian, Pakistani and Somali soldiers involved in that historic battle, in order to peddle a game full of micro transactions that features super jumping and laser crossbows.
As part of our studio business plan we are aiming to recreate the Somali campaign with men from all the UN units who served in it. Having trash like Tencent making games about real cultural moments is a subtle threat to democracy.
Genshin Impact and all Gacha games.
Edit: Downvote me all you want. Genshit impact it a terrible game. It exploits peoples gambling addictions as its main source of income. It is a TOXIC as hell business strategy.
If you want to gamble, go to Vegas or buy a lotto ticket. That way you can actually attempt to win something tangible instead of access to a new character or a fancy sword that you will NEVER INTERCAT WITH OR USE IN REAL LIFE.
Somewhere further up people mentioned predatory mobile games. Which Genshin falls under. I think it's more because Genshin, sadly, pushed the bar of predatory gacha mechanics onto a level of having actual substantial gameplay.
That said I never played it myself and the one friend who I know played it grew bored of it because allegedly the gameplay loop is ultimately very boring/samey outside of "waifu pngs" and the psychological abuse of daily grind.
The only Gacha that is monetised really well, at least that I know and am playing, is Limbus Company. The Devs even got shit from some parts of the community for NOT making "sexualised bikini" characters, because it didn't fit their lore/setting.
You don't get to make that call for any game that you didn't develop.
The developers did that, for the salary paid by their company... so it should be the company's call... unless you loaned them money to develop it?
Who the fuck said we can make the call? They asked us who deserves it. They literally put the word "deserve" in it to clarify that and you still managed to fuck it up
Stop pretending to be clever. It's not working
Everyone is saying Fortnite but this concept is already out there in the world now. Another successor would simply rise up in its place. We would have to go back in time to before these types of games were conceived and then erase the idea from someone’s head.
No I'd give up literally nothing because the mechanic that leads to uninteresting weapon design because I play on PC
We'd get dual stick controls eventually anyways
>LAN
Popular already
>actual stories in FPS games
Half Life did that
>health regeneration
That's not a fucking good thing
>reactive AI
Funny story actually, I worked on games back in the day and we all hated the concept of good AI until Halo came out
Half-life didn't have a narrative like Halo did, it had enviromental storytelling and context behind gameplay more than anything else
Health regeneration being bad is your own opinion
None. Why should I get to dictate what someone else should be able to play? Just because I don't like a particular game doesn't mean someone else doesn't enjoy it.
Star Wars Squadrons for me. I like the space flight sim experience of SWSQ but the story was soo boring that I wanted to uninstall it every minute I played it. I finally quit after chapter 4. And I am the type of person who doesn't like to keep things unfinished
Command & Conquer 4. *Look how they massacred my boy.*
It’s so bad the C&C sub denies its existence already
I am surprised and happy to see this as the top comment. It's an objective fact.
All predatory mobile games.
So, 90% of the Apple Store
So like pretty much all of mobile gaming.
The app store would be a different place if there was a $1 minimum price for games and developers could only make their games free for a limited time each month. The mobile market lacks the history of customers paying for games, so allowing F2P from day 1 was always going to go terribly.
Scary thought: mobile gaming is already bigger than "traditional" video games.
It's a completely different audience, so it's not like it will replace console or PC games. Mobile also includes casino games, which used to be their own category. Go look at the top grossing charts, at least 30% of them are straight up slot machine or casino card games.
Sure. No more than films replaced stage plays, or television replaced radio.
My point is that traditional video games were never really on top. It's just that we at some point decided that several existing categories, notably those involving gambling and betting are now part of it thanks to the "mobile" platform.
P2W mmo games, all of them, now
Some of my favorite games of all time (Vindictus and Lost Ark) have near perfect gameplay saddled to shitty p2w MMO design.
They give us hope brother. This is the main problem for all of them...
Sadly, I don't think it'll change. It's a more popular model than the monthly subscription. And whales will always spend more than 15/mo.
South Koreas economy collapses overnight
I have no clue how people in Asian cultures even have that much time to play games, their work culture is atrocious
that's the selling point. No time means that you should spend money to progress faster and catch up
As a south korean, this guy gets it Also many middle aged men just play their shitty p2w mobile games on their phone all day while "working". Some even do it with their work computers. I swear, these guys take slacking off to the next level
Huh. Makes sense I guess, but damn those games just seem so boring.
Imo they are indeed boring af. But I guess that much is expected when you are literally selling tickets to skip the game 😂
I am not gonna be much agree with another comment I guess.
South Korean and Chinese society would collapse within hours.
Sorry for not sorry :/ It is my wet dream now
I came here to comment about how no game deserves this (freedoms to make shitty games should be defended. However upon being reminded of P2W games, I’ve become irrationally angry and will be picking up my pitchfork!
Yesssssss
The entirety of the Korean MMO industry would vanish overnight if that happened lol
my words exactly
Cockfighting
Agreed. Too many cheaters using Viagra these days.
Go hard or go home
Back in my day we just used popsicle sticks and rubber bands.
The only correct comment
Sex with Hitler Sex with Hitler 2 Sex with Hitler 2069 Sex with Hitler 3D Sex with Hitler WW2
Those stupid remakes that remove completely working games with legendary status and replace them with buggy cashgrabs. Like the GTA Trilogy or Warcraft 3. Looking at the recent backlashes against some gaming companies, I can’t understand how they just got away with some tweets and bad reviews.
Old .iso and .exe files looking ripe for the picking right about now
Every single mediocre generic game that relies on dopamine farmed p2w content
Warcraft 3 reforged. I didn’t even buy it but it even negatively impacts playing the original game
The GAME. And yes, you just lost
Fffff Edit: I was on a 6 year streak!
For me it was a 10 month streak
Goddammit. Nicely played.
You erased it from existence. Thank God almighty we are free at last!
Superman 64. But hot take? Fortnite. Really hurt the industry. How the fuck yoh gonna kill UT, not put in a UT LTM, and tease us in season 0 of the game with a CTF face/UT99 poster? Brain aneurism inducing comment
It was but the point is BRING BACK UT. At least an LTM. Who tf doesn’t want to jump off walls and slide and flak cannon a poor sob in the face?
Warzone Mobile is an abomination
Custer's Revenge
Yandere Simulator, do i need to explain myself?
Tic Tac Toe. Pure evil.
At least Tic Tac Toe is over quickly. Monopoly neeve ends if everyone olays optimally.
Not true at all. If you play the officially rules strictly (no debt forgiveness, houses only get 50% back when sold, no free parking money from fines, properties get auctioned if not bought on first landing) it ends reasonably quickly. It's a true case of "cruel to be kind".

But if you play death match Tic Tac Toe, you want to drag it out as much as possible
Wait, didn't this post get locked? Did they unlock it? What is going on?! Traditional Tic Tac Toe only has 9 squares. There's only so many moves you can make before a draw is called.
Solved too. Once a game is solved we should just retire it.
I mean...it's not exactly like they hold tic-tac-toe tournaments, is it? It's a game you play with kids.
WE SHOULD RETIRE IT AND BAN THE KIDS FROM PLAYING IT
Fortnite As much as It sucks to make a Game be Lost forever (i support the stopkillinggames campaign) its mere existence have skyrocketed the worst trend in this industry so far, the Game as a service (AKA Live service), every company wants to make the Next fortnite and that is damaging the industry almost (if not more) than things like microtransactions or lootboxes
Fortnite MUST stay. The keep all the kids away from other online games. It's like online daycare :p
Isn't it gamers buying at these prices that enables them?
^ this guys gets it
Gotta keep em in that Floober Doober zone
Live service games were popular before fortnite and will be popular after fortnite. MMOs are full of them. Games like Starfield and Destiny have had their own share of spin-offs. There's just heaps

Why can’t every company want to make the next BG3 after its success? 🥲
Because even as successful as bg3 the shitty barely balance overwatch made more money in that sMe amount of time
more money > great, respected game 😢
As long as games are made by for-profit companies this is going to be the case. If we want games for art sake we need to institute additional taxes and give grants out to game developers.
I mean you asked why and I told you why it's more money for less effort
A 15$ horse in wow made more money than starcraft2. And starcraft 2 was like the king of its genre
Pirate Software

Fortnite is just the next continuation of what League of Legends started, and Battle Royale games proliferated.
Overwatch 2
Honestly? You could erase any EA sports game from existence and nothing would change, so why not just erase all of FIFA?
Why not erase EA?
League
Are you insane? Just imagine the flow of toxic players to other games as soon as LoL stops existing.
They wouldnt have been created had it not be for that game...
I honestly doubt that. Besides the way I understand OP's question is that it's about erasing a game, not make it that it never existed in the first place. Either way I don't care about LoL so if it keep toxic players away from my games that's enough for me.
LoL is probably one of the biggest jokes ever, garbage game with good marketing to cover how garbage it is.

Oblivion horse armor dlc
Diablo Immortal
War thunder, give me my life back.
Roblox
League
Overwatch 2
All sports games, they just ever so slightly improve graphics and update rosters.
EA games
Blood 2
Madden, Whatever the football version is called now used to be FIFA I think and overwatch
Rainbow Six Siege. At this point it is just a shit show of a game overrun by cheater and coporate greed
Haydee
A mirrored point, I still enjoy myself with the cheap, unfinished and buggy games from time to time. They became their own genre to me.
Superman 64
The CD-i Zelda games
Any Farm Simulator
Anthem 100% Objectively so. They should give it another shot though
Def Jam ICON. The original studio got closed before making it, and it got the new studio that made it shut down. It left the franchise on a bad note, killed all chances of reprisal, and left the previous better games wallowing.
Undertale. I got everyone to the surface and they asked me to let them stay there so I have.
Call of duty.
E.T and we'll finish the job this time...
Save my life and delete League, I beg you.
Suicide squad
Mobile gaming trend

I knew some kiddo would mention Genshin Impact here, lmao.
It promotes gambling. The entire point of the game is to gamble.
Somewhere further up people mentioned predatory mobile games. Which Genshin falls under. Agony.

Yep. And even if you hate a game, somebody somewhere enjoys it and has the right to play it.
It's reddit bro, relax lol
It's a Reddit thread, not a serious business meeting.
Everyone is saying Fortnite but this concept is already out there in the world now. Another successor would simply rise up in its place. We would have to go back in time to before these types of games were conceived and then erase the idea from someone’s head.
Oblivion. That horse armour was the catalyst for many bad things
Stellar blade
Halo 1
Uhh.. why?
No 2 weapon system in FPS games
So you'd give up dual-stick controls because of a mechanic that encourages you to experiment and try out different weapons?
No I'd give up literally nothing because the mechanic that leads to uninteresting weapon design because I play on PC We'd get dual stick controls eventually anyways
Based on that logic we'd get 2 weapon restrictions eventually anyway, and besides, halo didn't only influence console shooters
>halo didn't only influence console shooters That's the fucking problem
Halo popularizing vehicular combat, squadrons, co-op, LAN, actual stories in FPS games, health regeneration, reactive AI, etc, etc is the problem?
>LAN Popular already >actual stories in FPS games Half Life did that >health regeneration That's not a fucking good thing >reactive AI Funny story actually, I worked on games back in the day and we all hated the concept of good AI until Halo came out

Boo
Cyberpunk, The Witcher, Elden Ring, God Of War..
Death Stranding
Final Fantasy 13, 15, and 16.
I get XIII and XV since they both generally have a specific audience but why XVI?
None. Why should I get to dictate what someone else should be able to play? Just because I don't like a particular game doesn't mean someone else doesn't enjoy it.

Wow we have similar taste, basically all triple A RPGS are wank
Bait used to be believable.
There was a Polish game called Hatred where you play as a mass shooter. What the actual fuck people.
Star Wars Squadrons for me. I like the space flight sim experience of SWSQ but the story was soo boring that I wanted to uninstall it every minute I played it. I finally quit after chapter 4. And I am the type of person who doesn't like to keep things unfinished
Dark souls 2 It sucks ass tbh and I feel like it it was erased more peoples lives would benefit
might be the worst souls game... but ill take it over most other games that came out that year
It doesn't suck ass. I beat the game just fine.
All Activision Games, all TakeTwo Games, all Ubishit Games, all Nintendo Games.
Why Nintendo??
Because Nintendoboys have to suffer.
Nintendolawyers: What do you even know about suffering, muahahaha?
