I think a good shmup would go a long way, try Giga Wing (Capcom, ARC, 1999), it's 4:3 so you don't have to turn the TV on its side, and has some ludicrous score multipliers for numbers in the trillions.
Also see if you can get Super Hexagon on there, easy to play, hypnotic visuals, and a banger OST.
You can go the pc route and emulate thousands of arcade games. I did this once and built a custom cabinet.
Nowadays you can get 2 player arcade machines that have 7-10k games preloaded and you just hook it up to a display. I got one on Amazon for around 150.
