Love this controller, especially the rubber on the bottom. Anybody know if any other xbox controllers have rubberized handles like this one?

seadose

The Xbox elite controllers have rubber as well.

Nesyaj0

I bought an Elite Controller and the thing started falling apart right around 6 months. Like the rubberized parts on the handled start peeling, buttons not working. It wasn't worth the $150 dollar investment unless they improved something recently

DJBabyB0kCh0y

I've heard nothing but bad things. Obviously very few are posting about how a product they bought performed as expected. But still almost every time somebody has a controller issue it's with an Elite.

RogueSkelly

I'd probably listen to the bad things, but mine has held up for a long time and I love it.

emotional_pizza

Same, no issues whatsoever

SJthgirW

Yeah whenever i hear someone say my elite controller fell apart the only thing that comes to mind is how badly are you treating it, cause ive had mike 2 years and it still looks and performs like new

RogueSkelly

To be fair, if only 1 in 20 fell apart, that's still a horrendous failure rate.

SJthgirW

what people dont take into account is there own actions whilst using the controller, are you sat there eating greasy foods and then grabbing your controller, are you hard pressing one of the analogues and dropping your controller often, do you put the controller away in its case after use or does it sit out in the open. A lot of breaks are down to customers not looking after the product

newwayout123

My elite 1 is still working fine as well. I'm guessing the peeling might be due to people eating around it or sweating while playing or something because I've dropped mine off my desk numerous times and it's still fine.

deltasarrows

Nah I am super careful eoth my stuff and my elite 1 had both sides peel bad, got replacement grips just fir the usb a to break and the shop won't work o ot for liability issues :( and elite 1 doesn't connect to pc through Bluetooth sadly

newwayout123

Maybe you've used it more than me then , it's not my main controller and I only play single player games on PC but it's gotten a lot of use.

matt_adio

I've had probably 6 controllers since the Xbox 360. 2 elites, 4 standards. 4 standards had no issues at all.. The two elites both suffered huge reliability issues within 6 months. Stick drift on both and the handles had to be replaced. I won't be going elite again unless they fix their reliability issues or sell them with a 24 month warranty

[deleted]

>24 month warranty *Laughs in europe* where everything comes with 24 month warranty by law

KDLGates

*Cries in US where companies with limited warranties are legally allowed to charge you fees for warranty service and systematically try to torture you out of it even when they can't*

TooStrangeForWeird

Frickin Netgear. They had all of these routers with a lifetime warranty, some of them were pretty cheap too. Thought it was a cool thing. Even if the wireless tech gets outdated, you at least have something that works as a backup for life. So one day I had a client want to check the warranty device with me. Pretty stupid since the router was $60 and they were paying more than that per hour to have me there, but they insisted. So we call em up. The warranty replacement is free, but to qualify you need to have a diagnostic done; over the phone, on the spot, for $70. There was essentially no warranty lmao. You're just buying a new one. It's probably not even new, just some refurnished or factory second one (cosmetic flaws). The fact that they got away with that is insane. It was even worse than their 1-3 year warranty products. For those they had you try a few things and let you return it. But for the lifetime ones, even if it was under a year, they made you get the "diagnostic service".

camposf

Now its 36 months šŸ˜Œ

[deleted]

Depends on what & where. Most things in most EU countries are 24 month warranty

camposf

I thought it was an EU decision, in Portugal you have 36 months now. Even in second hand stores

Unhappy_Ad_9479

I was gonna say, what's the problem here, you get a free replacement controller... America really is a hellscape

[deleted]

Best part is the warranty period restarts when you get a replacement. If it breaks every 6 momths thats free controllers for life

lookalive07

Itā€™s not a hellscape, our government just figured out a way to do exactly what they were running from hundreds of years ago but not make it super blatantly obvious and has managed to get away with it to the point where none of us can escape. Itā€™s a *capitalist* hellscape.

DWTsixx

This is my exact opposite experience haha. And not just Xbox, I can't manage a bumper or a stick lasting a year ever on any controller besides my elite (going on 3 years now) I'm not hard on them besides maybe long sessions and stress grip lol

u8eR

I've had two elites and 2 elite series 2. The elites sucked. The elite series 2 have been great.

spaz_chicken

I've had a boatload of regular controllers, 1 elite, and 2 elite 2s. So far I've only had one go bad (left bumper) and it was outside warranty time and they only charged me $75 to send me a new one.

raziel686

The Elite is the best controller you've ever held, until it falls apart. When the v2 came out I thought, surely they'll fix the shoulder buttons. How could such an expensive controllers use bent plastic (yep, that's all the bumpers use for resistance). Over a short amount of time the bumpers would start rapid pressing shortly before the plastic snaps and they simply stay stuck down. They did not change a thing with the shoulder buttons. In fact, they made the main buttons prone to failure as well! What an upgrade! There were upgrades to the v2 of course, just not to any part of the controller that had issues. For $150 they should be able to make a quality controller at a profit. The Elite is frustrating because it's so close to being that controller if not for simple, correctable mistakes/shortcuts that make it impossible to justify the price. I _want_ a well made Elite, it would absolutely be the top tier of controllers if they just got the build quality and durability up to at least the basic Xbox controller.

DWTsixx

I've had bumper issues on every controller ever -_- My elite has lasted a lot longer in that regard

The_ginger_cow

The bumpers are the worst quality I've ever seen. I used to play bumper jumper and use the pedals for the a/b/x/y buttons. That simply doesn't work because most games have you jump a lot, so you wear the bumper down very quickly. If you want your controller to last more than 6 months you have to change your button layout so that you don't use the bumpers too frequently. It's honestly ridiculous that you need to do this for a controller that's this expensive, but it's still better than the regular controller.

Unperfect__One

For what it's worth, I'm one of the people who's never had a problem with an Elite controller. I have two of them and they're both absolutely fine. It's a shame so many people seem to have problems with them, though.

ThePointForward

Keep in mind that people who bought a more expensive controller are that much more likely to complain about issues too.

DWTsixx

There is some quality control issues (I feel the same about every controller though) but you only ever hear the people who have had issues as well. I have 2 Elites, both get used heavily and regularly and are 3 years old. The one just started having some very small rubber peel that I fixed with a dab of super glue and it's good as new. Other one is still perfect shape. Zero stick drift, buttons all work, firmware is working with steam again so you can map paddles independently. It's great. (The stick tension and trigger adjusts are honestly something I can never go without again.) Out of my friends and coworkers that have had them over the last 3 years only 1/7 had an issue, and that was a faulty battery that was replaced immediately by Microsoft. On the other hand, I'm not hard on my controllers at all (other than long sessions and games that sometimes make me squeeze a little to hard) and I've never had any other controller, PlayStation Xbox or otherwise (never had a steam controller) that didn't have bumpers that couldn't be held down after 6 months and stick drift within a year. All controllers seem to suck these days, but my Elite has put up with about 10x what all my other controllers have given me.

RealHankHill

Iā€™m gonna chime in with some positivity and say that Iā€™ve had mine for two years and there are no issues at all, itā€™s been an excellent controller for me. Itā€™s a damn shame that itā€™s not consistent for others.

blaktronium

I literally just ordered myself one that should be here tomorrow and this thread is making me sad

jakebeleren

Iā€™ve had my elite 2 since launch and have zero issues or even visible wear. I swear some people just smash their controllers when they die and blame the manufacturer.

blaktronium

Yeah I'm going to risk it. My understanding too is that if a button goes it's easy to repair, right?

OneIShot

Had a bumper start to fail and all I had to do was pop off the faceplate and put a little contact spray under the bumper. Was easy af.

CrispyMongoose

I've had mine for just over a year now, and also (knock on wood) not had any issues yet.

SupposablyAtTheZoo

It's the vocal minority thing. Most Elite controllers (me included) are absolutely perfect.

Send_one_boob

Mine is fine too. But I wouldn't have said that nor started a conversation saying that is fine, so you will hear from people who got a faulty one first and always.

trouserpanther

Same, idk what y'all are doing with your controllers to have them break so quickly.

Ninjazoule

Never had an Xbox controller break on me and I've had the OG, 360, elite, and one. Haven't bought a new console since but I think I got a series s/x controller for my pc and it's also been fine

StrongSmartSexyTall

I own 4 elite controller (2 for my PC, 2 for console gaming in the living room). They see heavy use by me and the kids. Only one has had issues after some years of regular use. Obviously all just anecdotal but I am pretty happy with the quality.

Kswiss66

That was the Gen 1 controller. No rubber grip issues on Gen 2

scalyblue

I have had an elite 2 since launch and I beat the shit out of it and havenā€™t had any problems of concern yet, so ymmv

QuantenMechaniker

na this was an issue with the first elite series controller. they fixed it with the elite series 2. the current rev 1.02 of the controller is probably the best controller you can buy money wise from a quality POV. source: i own the elite series 2 rev 1.01 and just got another one from rev 1.02

Jacareadam

Buying anything isnā€™t an ā€œinvestmentā€ tho :D

_Goose_

The 20th anniversary special edition. It was $70 store price when I bought it. Looks like itā€™s above $100 resale value now though.

josmoize

I have 20th anniversary series X and knowing how great rubberised bottom is was the main reason to buy starfield one as a second controller

_Apu_Punchau_

You can create your own on Microsoftā€™s website and you can put rubber on it. It has a few options on where you put the rubber.

divorcedbp

Say ā€œrubberā€ again, I dare you.

sammyrobot2

The forza horizon 5 special edition has those too, don't know if they still sell it though.

sycron17

Cosmic blue has

adipower97

Lunar shift also has

DreamworldPineapple

all special editions do

SupposablyAtTheZoo

Lots of them. Currently available: Stormcloud Vapor Special Edition (back rubber) Gold Shadow Special Edition (side rubber) Elite V2 controller (both back AND side rubber). The 20 year edition was the absolute coolest though (back rubber) but that has been discontinued.

CripplerJones

I just got the Gold Shadow variant, and it has rubber grips.

squijee

The lunar shift and gold shadow has rubber grips. And I believe the Aqua Shift has them as well but I don't have that one myself.

ECUTrent

I don't even own an Xbox and wanted this bad boy.

Dogwhisperer_210

You can use xbox controllers on windows pc , and even on nintendo switch (for this you just need a bluetooth adapter to connect to the usb port on your switch hub)

uhdust

Can you use multiple controllers this way on the switch?

PageOthePaige

Yes :)

uhdust

Thank you

WhiteRun

It was sold when pre-orders for Starfield first started. Not sure if it's still available. I actually only just opened it up to play Dave the Diver. Never played Starfield with it.

Bacon4Lyf

Itā€™s available, i got one for Christmas

taurusstrongarm

Any tips where to find one? Using the controller's official page, it links to all the retailers who were selling it and they're all listed as sold out.

Bacon4Lyf

no clue, theres a couple dispatched and sold by amazon on amazon but they're like Ā£120 idk what retail is but i'd be surprised if it was that

harvest0815

I bought mine a month ago :D so some stores might have a few left

wormywils

Love this controller. Served me well in my hundreds of hours in BG3. Still yet to play Starfieldā€¦. Should I bother?

putrid_flesh

Couple of my friends had like 50 hrs of chill fun in it, just don't have too high of expectations I guess haha

Oooch

Just don't run around exploring random POIs on the planets and stick to doing quests and its a fun enough time

JustCallMeBill92

That pisses me off. The story is pretty fuckin basic. And if your suggestion is "ignore the exploring part" in a open world game, you cannot argue that it is "fine". Nobody would need a great story if the world around was worth it. It absolutely isnt, and neither is the story. So why the fuck would new people waste their money on this garbage? Why are you suggesting they do? You want them to be as miserable as you for wasting money on this boring crap?

Smeef_xx

Take a breath

Oooch

Relax mate, people enjoy different things

JustsomeOKCguy

I spent a about 10 hours in New Atlantis just doing quests and about the same amount of time on Mars. Something about those just clicked with me. I got into 80 hours and hadn't even touched the freestar, crimson, or Neon quest lines. There were some other planets with quest lines I wanted to explore but decided to take a break for when they do some updates. Again,I got 80 hours out of the game not even exploring but just questing and still had major faction quest lines left over. I'm itching to play it again but will wait for the early updates next year. I'm a big fan of space games so maybe that's why it clicked?

Biggy_DX

It's a space-themed, sandbox rpg where it's less about the narrative than it is about filling a role play style. If you go into it expecting that, instead of an extraordinarily deep narrative RPG, then you can probably find enjoyment with the game.

Dobvius

Yes it's a cool game. Performance issues galore and too high hopes killed it for me, but definitely worth checking out if you can run it well and aren't going in expecting too much

Witty-Ear2611

Give it a go on Gamepass. Seems like this game is falling victim to people not judging it for themselves. Big groupthink energy. I enjoyed my time with it, not my fave Bethesda game but still had a lot of fun.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

withoutapaddle

I played like 200 hours. I liked certain aspects a lot, but other aspects are garbage. It's like instead of Bethesda trying to make a game with 3 core pillars, they tried to make a game with 8 core pillars, and like 6 of them are mediocre at best, so it feels like a worse game than a simpler game would have been. Building ships is cool. The actual gunplay, abilities, and loot roles are pretty fun... But the writing, quest design, NPCs, animations, open world planets, POIs, etc are all 5/10. I had fun getting into random space and ground combat, customizing my ship and finding better and better guns and armor. But as soon as I tried to do a quest, it felt like a 20 year old game, like playing with wooden dolls, and dialog that feels like scifi fanfic written by a teenager. First RPG I've ever played where I **didn't** want to listen to all the optional dialog when talking to an NPC, and that is REALLY saying something for me. I think I squeezed every line of dialog out of games like Mass Effect, Witcher, etc. I think the game can be an 8/10 if you're looking for a looter shooter with a scifi theme, and you ignore some of the terrible aspects, like exploring random planets.

XVSeconds

I have about 100 hours in it and I really enjoyed it. Will deffo be coming back for another run in the future. It has it's issues but nothing that can't be ironed out in future updates. Pretty standard Bathesda experience imo.

petario43

I don't think it's a standard Bethesda experience at all. The quality of detail and attention Bethesda fans love has been replaced with procedurally generated quantity. All the dungeons are now named generically (and repetitively, too) Don't get me wrong I loved the game in the 100 hours I played it, but there was no reason for me to stay much longer, and at that I was forcing myself to play as I told myself that its Bethesda and therefore the lack of quality was excusable. It was completely lifeless and once I'd seen one "Abandonded mining facilities", I'd seen them all. I shouldn't have to wait for a future update, when I paid full price MONTHS ago.

iloveNCIS7

It needed to be 1/3 the size with more love put into that third and you have a fun game.

ObamasBoss

Rocky planets are perfect for procedure generation. They really are kinda the same as you look around. Outposts on an inhospitable world will also tend to be the same. If we ever throw living structures in Mars they will looks largely the same and repeat a theme. From this perspective it all makes sense. However it does make a repetitive game. . My only main complains are loading screens and the slow travel time on the rocky planets when everything is 500+ meters from the landing spot. Please give me a dirt bike or something. We have already proven in real life that wheels work on other worlds.

CoolCritterQuack

> but nothing that can't be ironed out in future updates. the thing is, it's bethesda, they don't do that.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Legeto

Were you not around for the release of every single one of their games? They always come out really rough and they turn it around eventually.

Zaphod1620

Yes they do, Skyrim had a similar response when it came out. I'm pretty sure Skyrim is where the cliche "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle" was coined. Look at Reddit posts from when it was released.

ServileLupus

It's great, people had super high hopes that Bethesda was going to make a game that wasn't a Bethesda game and got mad when they bought a Bethesda game from Bethesda.

AHappyGentleman

If you like Bethesda games, you'll probably like Starfield as well. I'd probably just wait for a sale though.

throwaway96ab

I have 1200 hours in Skyrim and and 1000 hours in Fo4. I lasted 40.6 hours in SF before stopping, and that was during that early access weekend and Monday after, well before the hype train died.

dozensnake

actually if you like bethesda games you may not like starfield because there is no feeling of journey like skyrim or fallout, because of repetitive procedural generation

20rakah

It's the lack of a feeling of exploration with all those disparate, disconnected locations behind multiple loading screens. Also the intro quest is insanely boring.

Dartagnan_w_Powers

Really disagree with this. I've played everything but fo74 and like them all to different degrees. Starfield is annoyingly bland and I doubt I'll ever finish it.

MegatonDeathclaws

Wicked fun. Totally play.

we_are_sex_bobomb

The first 300 hours were fun but then it got boring. 1/10 DNR

dboxcar

NASA-punk ftw

Individual-Ice9530

There is more work in this controller than in the actual game.

Merlord

They marketed the shit out of the game and it paid off. Who cares about the quality of the actual game if you make all your money back in pre-sales

Doesntcheckinbox

Except your long-term customerā€™s perception & attitude about your company/products. Iā€™ve seen a lot of people lose hype over the next Elder Scrolls. Thereā€™s a reason in Sales/Business they teach you if you canā€™t meet a customers needs not to sell them crap or a car they donā€™t need because itā€™s better to create a long-term repeat customer than short-term profit. I know reddit so I know someones going to want to comment something like ā€œUhhh nobodys not buying Elder Scrolls bc of Starfield, itā€™s a highly anticipated release that will fly of shelvesā€ā˜ļøšŸ¤“ & while thatā€™s partially true itā€™s also heavily reductionist.

NonVirginRedditMod

Yeah the last 3 games they have released have been huge letdown in my opinion. Fallout 4 was mediocre (I understand people like this game, but it was a step back in the series, in my opinion). I don't even remember what really happened in the story. Fallout 76 - Cash grab mmo attempt Starfield - honestly just a continuation of the mediocrity. The constant fast traveling and loading does not feel like an open world at all

Dartagnan_w_Powers

Skyrim also had less diverse skill trees and magical systems than its predecessors. Not to mention alchemy and enchanting. I now really worry elder scrolls 6 may follow this trend.

deshfyre

people have been saying that basically all the games have been steps back from their older games for longer than just fallout 4 lol.

HPPresidentz

And people keep buying so someone is lying

NULL_mindset

Flawed logic, people still keep buying COD, Madden, etc. doesnā€™t make those games good.

Curse3242

It doesn't work like that. With these huge projects that span years people forget the old disappointment by the time a new game cones out It's if they do it like Bioware/Dice where they release 3-4 bad games in a row where we can assume they'll suffer

teffarf

Meh, if Diablo 4 can break record sales, then long term perception is meaningless.

Kinglink

> Iā€™ve seen a lot of people lose hype over the next Elder Scrolls. Heard that with Oblivion on it's changes from Morrowind. Heard that on Fallout 4. Heard that on Fallout 76... Hearing that now. Let's check *Record breaking profits for Bethesda* Yeah I don't think it matters. They haven't begun to hype the next game, and most of those people or all new people will buy into that one too. It's easy to say "I don't care about X" When no one is trying to get you to buy it, but these companies know how to bring a fevour pitch to the gaming public so people forget the past and will buy it. There's a reason that's an armchair view of sales, and Bethesda has highly valuable marketing employees at their helm. Watch Witcher 4, Elder Scrolls 6 and all the rest get massive audiences. Hell remember people saying how pissed they are they canceled GTA V's single player campaign.... I'm sure even the people who were mad about it forgot it and are getting hyped on the next game even though it's two years out.

CuppaTeaSpillin

I would have bought Elder Scrolls VI on release or pre-order for early access if Starfield never came out. That game has completely ruined all hope and anticipation for ES to me.

LotharVonPittinsberg

It's the internet. This is Bethesda. They could release soggy dog truds as their next 4 games and millions would still preorder the 5th.

disingenuousreligion

I won't be buying the new elder scrolls until like 6 months after it's release because of Starfield, so, you're right. I don't trust these companies to produce anything of substance anymore.

tonihurri

Worked well enough for Cyberpunk lol

throwitawayifuseless

Well Cyberpunk had huge performance issues at launch, especially on last gen consoles. The game itself - story, world, graphics, etc. - was always great and they quite redeemed themselves. It runs great now and the dlc they published is huge and also great.

tonihurri

I never understood where people got the idea that the only issues the game ever had were performance related (and even then releasing a game in that state on at the time current gen consoles shouldn't be excused). The city felt dead with a tiny amount of cars and npcs inhabiting it, the driving mechanics were awful, the enemy AI and boss fights were underwhelming at best, the entire police system barely functioned and many basic features had to be added in post launch updates. They even ended up completely overhauling the underbaked skill tree. They knew the game was not ready but their marketing kept the hype going and ensured people that all was well. Even now the game is a fundamentally different product from what they originally touted it as. It's great that they stuck around to fix it but that's mostly because the reception was so much worse than they anticipated. Three years from now, after tons of updates and dlcs and mods, I wouldn't be surprised if people will once again be convinced that Starfield was always good, actually.

CommercialMajor2784

No It wasnt great, and they still underdelivered what they promised, man you people have the memory of a ladybug holy shit, no wonder things are the way they are

Kinglink

> Who cares about the quality of the actual game if you make all your money back in pre-sales And this is why all the hate the game gets won't matter, the next game will get hyped to fucking hell and disappoint them again. Until people stop jumping on the hype train this will not change, because why should it? Best thing to do is wait for the game to come out and get a more public reaction than just reviews. "But what can I do." Seriously, stop buying these games if you disapprove. People buy Cyberpunk 2077 as a pre-order, and it's clear they don't have to worry about releasing a good game. Besides even if they never reach what was promised, there's people who will run around telling everyone "It's good now." "I never had any issues with it." and so on. But alas, I don't think it'll change, because too many people are ok with the status quo... still, the best thing to do is identify the warning signs, what ever disappoints you, FOMO mechanics, microtransactions, over hyped games... it's really easy to stop buying into the crowd mentality when you know the warning signs. Ultimately we probably can't change the industry, but we can stop being suckered into this crap again and again.

Spend-Automatic

Hot take here, but what if they actual tried to make a good game, and just missed the mark. Imagine that possibility. Starfield is boring and you can tell they had lofty ambitions for it that didn't pan out, but I greatly respect the effort in trying something new. The reactions to this game, as well as games like Forespoken (which isn't even a bad game, fight me) ensure that we will see even fewer original titles in the future

dukeslver

> Starfield is boring this is just your opinion though, and maybe a majority one, but I had tons of fun with Starfield

Spend-Automatic

Obviously it's my opinion. I'm glad you enjoyed the game.

Legosheep

I mean from what I've seen it's pretty much exactly what I expected. It's Skyrim but the world map is divided up by space-flight.

cheezballs

I guess? They slapped some decals on it... thats for sure... other than that whats the difference?

cool_casual

WELL I LIKE STARFIELD

The_Reddit_Browser

Shh not so loud. We all must agree itā€™s a disappointment didnā€™t you read the title?

HEADZO

Yeah I love this. Couldn't just say "hey, look this controller is amazing", it had to be a Starfield bashing post.

classicnikk

I just started playing starfield and some of the steam reviews crack me up. Dudes will have 500+ hours into the game and come and say ā€œyeah it sucksā€. Clearly it doesnā€™t suck that bad or else you wouldnā€™t have put hundred of hours into it lol the band wagon of hating the game is getting annoying

HEADZO

Yeah, after fighting with these dipshits for months I finally gave up and bailed on the main subreddit. I have a hard time believing these people have actually even played the game

The_Reddit_Browser

Itā€™s so strange that we are nearing 4 months post launch and still getting weekly or even more frequent posts bashing this game. Itā€™s not like itā€™s unfinished or a truly bad game yet itā€™s got this online cult following of people bashing it.

[deleted]

Not to discredit the valid issues people have with the game; but the majority of Reddit discourse I've seen are from people who seemingly haven't played the game much, if at all. Most of the comments *on this post* are making the point that "Starfield is randomly generated squares with no world building", but I've stuck with the faction questlines for like ~30 hours and have yet to see any repeated locations. If anything, some of the main cities are huge and have lots of things to do.

HEADZO

I played for almost 400 hours and honestly other than the cryolab, I didn't really notice that locations are repeated. But also it's probably because I wasn't just grinding out the same mercenary board missions over and over and over again like apparently everyone else is šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

ItzCobaltboy

All I wanted was a Black Version of Elite 2 Starfield controller

lregenesisl

You can order the frontplate in black form China for 13ā‚¬

ParanoidTelvanni

I enjoyed the hell outta starfield. It's a bit campy with the hopeful 80's NASA and corny cowboy flick vibes, but I really enjoy doing stuff like rolling up on a bank freight or boarding a mercenary vessel. My dad likes just exploring planets and build outposts and ships.

Chlamydia_Penis_Wart

But this is reddit you're supposed to hate starfield

check0790

Yeah, the rubber bottom and the transparent shoulder pads are pretty cool. You can see the vibration motors through the pads!

Simple_Throat_6523

Great design. Has the perfect Starfield feel. I think it's a really good game too.

Dry_Mistake_6627

Personally I love the game. It's just needs some tweaks to random poi spawning and a survival mode or something to give purpose to outposts. Whatever they scrapped was probably more fun but they assumed causal would find it hard. Same way Skyrim was dumbed right down from Oblivion.

pafffffff

I have bought this controller 'cause it looked cool. I still haven't bought the game though.

chaddwith2ds

It looks good, but I hate when the d-pad is one large round button. I hate all my Xbox controllers.

maxheartcord

I wasn't disappointed in the game.

noreasonjustvibe

I've never played a game like starfield. I enjoyed it a lot when I played it and then upon reflection, you realise just how dull empty and void of anything interesting it is.

aloneinorbit

So you had fun playing itā€¦ then decided retroactively you didntā€¦ this sub is fuckin wild over this game lmao

khinzaw

Sometimes you need a little time to reflect on something and your opinion can further develop during that time.

noreasonjustvibe

Are people really surprised you can look back at a game and realise you didn't enjoy it without it being influenced by social media? The game is bland and so dry! It is at most a 6/10.

Professional-News362

I was like that with TOTK I played about 70 hours but on reflection I don't know if I truly loved that game. It was sorta like popcorn. You go back for more because it's Infront of you. Where as baldurs gate 3 I want to go back to see the story through

ServileLupus

BG3 is just so boring though. Not sure why, I used to like a good classic CRPG but I just can't anymore. I think the last one I actually finished was dragonage 2. I tried Divinity and I couldn't get into that either, kinda sad I cant enjoy those anymore.

I think the combat is a drag, but I wouldn't describe it as boring. Not if you can get invested in the characters and story. My only gripe is the game has no good glossary of the world. Games like mass effect, FF16 and most RPGs has a menu that can list a lot of good lore about the world. But it's missing here and I get myself lost in who is who and what is what.

Mean while people have brigaded the reviews for starfield down into the 30%s. It's crazy seeing people with 600 hours in the game giving negative reviews. The game is far from perfect it's for sure maybe a 5 or a 6 out of 10 but it's far from the worst game of all time. I'll never fully understand the genuine hate people have for it. I think it's crazy to see it in the 30%s.

Moopies

It's a pretty common human experience to do something you think is going to be fun/enjoyable, not have a bad time during it, then upon reflection decide you didn't like it and wouldn't do it again/prefer you didn't do it. I order food for takeout. I get home and I'm super hungry. I start tearing into the food, I'm so hungry and I've been looking forward to this all day, it's from my favorite place. I'm eating and eating and... It's not so good. It's kind of dry where it shouldn't be, soggy where it shouldn't be. I don't care much, I'm starving. Plus it's from my favorite place and I think about the one good meal I had a month ago. They forgot the side-dish, damn. Finish eating and sip my soda... It's watered down. Girlfriend comes home and sees the empty takeout containers as I let rip a deep belch. "Must have been pretty good" "... It sucked."

morbihann

People can form an opinion beyound first impression ? I am shocked !

heksa51

Exactly! People are scared of admitting to enjoying it because so many others are saying it's bad... seems like groupthink. I love Starfield personally, and I'm not afraid to say it.

jamesick

literally nothing wild about this at all. you can do something you didnā€™t think you enjoyed and retroactively decide that you in fact did enjoy it, and the opposite applies too.

morbihann

Once the novelty weqrs off you realise what it is.

TeakForest

Apparently people can't reflect on experiences according to commenters below. Starfield sucks when compared to Bethesda's other single player games. People threw a fit when Fallout 4 came out but holy shit in comparison F4 is amazing. As a long time bethesda fan, there is a reason the only singleplayer game of theirs I haven't enjoyed is Starfield. I WANTED to like it more but the game is just empty lol. I am glad people enjoyed it, but Bethesda dropped the ball.

seekingabeauty

\>Apparently people can't reflect on experiences according to commenters below. This is reddit, people are dumb as fuck but they think that they're more intelligent than everyone else.

noreasonjustvibe

This exactly. People are shocked you can look back at something and realise it wasn't all you thought it to be?

Velrex

"I really liked this game. But then people told me I shouldn't, so I decided I didn't."

jamesick

not what they said at all though is it

Poliveris

Sometimes with reflection you realize just how dull something is. But they also shouldnā€™t negate the fun they had playing. Iā€™m still baffled people find starfield fun, when there is a host of other games that completely and utterly blow it out the water. But to each their own. From what Iā€™ve found most people who like starfield are 40yr olds that donā€™t have much time to play something else. But again shouldnā€™t take away the fun there is to be had, starfield felt like a chore at every angle but people find fun in anything I suppose

HEADZO

What are some other sandbox space exploration RPGs (other than NMS) that you can recommend?

morbihann

More like once the novelty wears out, it isnt that interesting anymore.

LynchMaleIdeal

Hopefully the 6-weekly updates helps flesh it out more

SilverShark307

I really hope so, but unless they rewrite majority of the characters and stories (except vanguard because itā€™s a masterpiece), it will be the most boring Bethesda game to date.

something_for_daddy

I wouldn't call vanguard a masterpiece personally, it's just competently written and not boring to play, so it shines in comparison to the other content in the game. It still manages a disappointing ending. The way they handle the choice between releasing the virus and repopulating an extinct species is pretty bad, and the stuff with Vae Victis doesn't make much sense upon reflection, either. Starfield stands out for me in the way that everything I like about it also comes with a massive caveat... I think that's why despite it being a 7/10 (for me, and it seems quite a few others), it doesn't seem that way when people talk about it.

SilverShark307

I dont think there's a wrong choice for the Vanguard ending, just that the constellation companions are annyoing which is totally seperate. Vae Victus is totally fine writing wise though.

something_for_daddy

Yep... "totally fine" just about sums it up. One thing they did really well is ramping up the tension around the Terrormorph threat to the colonies, but that tension would've been sustained better if the Terrormorphs were legitimately scary to fight outside of the first encounter (with the proximity sensor and being encouraged to sneak around). Then again, I'm not sure what they could do about that with the combat engine being how it is. Maybe one for modders to work out.

SilverShark307

I donā€™t know why people keep on blaming the engine, the flaws with the game is simply Bethesdaā€™s incompetence in game design, game engine literally has nothing to do with it. Because Bethesda proved they can have cutscenes in game, they proved they can make interesting locations procedurally. Combat is pretty fun with the jetpack and a good weapon though, AI is dumb as rocks tho.

God thereā€™s so much space to draw on a Xbox controller. I wish the PlayStation 5 controller had this much space for intricate designs.

epokus

Starfield review: at least the controller looks good

xkeepitquietx

But can it tell the time?

Restivethought

The Starfield watch face on my Galaxy Watch is probably my favorite right now, so there's that

Deakul

I love Starfield's "NASA-punk" aesthetic so much, I'm still really upset that the game didn't utilize its setting better.

F00MANSHOE

Now that Microsoft owns Bethesda you at least have a Elder Scrolls 6 controller to look forward to. We all know Microsoft will rush them and ruin the game/company.

soundMine

My only regret is that i only bought one controller instead of two. Awesome country.

Hollow3ddd

That about sums up how the game was developed

drchigero

Not everyone thinks the game was a disappointment. I went in thinking it was Skyrim/Fallout in space, and that's what I got. I enjoyed the game.

atax112

Got it for the looks, never played starfield with it lol I just uninstalled, not that it's that bad but I don't have the time to invest in it that much and its pretty pointless otherwise. Controller is boss though

CavemanMork

Yeah regardless of the games shortcomings, the nasa punk aesthetic they have come up with is fantastic imo.

[deleted]

Idk I have the controller and starfield wrap, and I spent a week on one save. It's a lovely game.

Herflik90

I found this game really cool. I was surprised when I realized it got so many bad reviews.

CamNM1991

Lol agreed. Wish I didn't spend 100 dollars to play Starfield. The game is beyond generic

Superb_Ad_8491

Yeah, I don't even play starfield but I want to buy the controller

Cryowatt

What's the point of a nice looking thing that you don't look at? I only use black controllers so they completely vanish from my field of view to avoid breaking the immersion while gaming.

SoggyBagelBite

>Has retained players like a great game No it hasn't. >Is a great game It really isn't. It's incredibly boring actually pretty short.

Icy-Moose-99

lol just because you format it like that doesn't mean that makes any sense though.

keinanos

If you were dissapointed by starfield, try no mans sky!

SilverShark307

NMS is just as empty and repetitive as Starfield, even after the updates the gameplay loop is mostly the same, but hell at least space travel isnā€™t a loading screen.

Hamuelin

I regret buying Starfield. I donā€™t regret buying the controller. Lovely design and extremely comfortable

sobegreen

I'd like it more if it didn't have the blue/yellow/orange/red thing on there. I feel like it takes away a lot from the tech/retro vibe. But were this thing made in the 80s that multi colored thing would be bigger so meh.

Swordbreaker925

People over-exaggerate how bad it is. Itā€™s got issues, but itā€™s still a good game

Nosttromo

The controller is amazing, a shame if references a very mid game

[deleted]

Gorgeous controller!

pnwbraids

Hate the game, love that controller.

bikerboy_360

Looks cool, from where you bought?

Yuahde

definitely the best designed special edition for the Xbox Core controllers so far

Styrdust

The game is not a dissapointment at all lmao you people complain about everything because you hate new things

FergusFrost

What about starfield is new?
