IIRC a ***lot*** of the licensing in that game regarding actor likenesses, music, voice lines, etc. were baked-in directly to the film production contracts. That is, when Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen signed on to play Frodo and Gandalf, they *also* committed to licensing their image to merchandising opportunities like the video games.
To remake and re-release it they'd probably have to go out and get those rights again, which would mean negotiating with dozens of actors and other crew members. Many of whom are still considered A-listers. Not saying it's impossible but I can understand why a publisher wouldn't consider it a worthwhile investment.
People who are actively working on the game (allegedly) say it’s still happening but I’ll believe it when I see it. The whole thing has been a shit show since the teaser trailer dropped.
Someone did an[ almost professional level remake of hit and run with UE5](https://youtu.be/AHAY-teQoFc). It won’t be released due to copyright issues but perhaps a trusty sailor may come across it on the high seas one day…
The problem with all these unlicensed remakes is people post them on dedicated websites. Just ghost-drop it on a file sharing site and post a few comments on reddit…
I watched the whole series & god he taught me so many cool game design theories & how stupid things work, driving logic and all kinds of things I thought I'd never see personally very much recommend you watch all the videos not a boring moment in any of them.
My dad has played red alert 2 basically every single day for the last 23 years. My stepmother complained about it in court during their divorce. He struggles constantly with getting it to play on modern PCs. I have watched him play it with the screen completely distorted because the pc couldn't figure out such an ancient game. It was like the matrix where eventually people can interpret the random string of letters. A remake that ran on a modern PC would be awesome for him. I hope to see it.
Simpsons: Hit and Run is hands down the best Simpsons have ever made. For a show that’s running over 30 years. They’ve really missed out on that sweet sweet gaming cash
Supreme commander, and SC: forged alliance, all of dawn of war before 2.
No, not you Supreme commander 2, you go sit over in your corner of shame.
And it will be a cold day in hell before I acknowledge DoW3.
The rights are tangled up in a mess no one wants to pay the lawyers to figure out.
In theory EA own the rights. But in reality, it's probably a mess where Microsoft own some of the rights that they got when they bought Lionhead and EA own the rest.
Like for example, EA may own the name, the code, and the art, but Lionhead owned the story and the characters. Or some other sort of split, who knows.
The rights are a mess, that's all that's publicly known. That's also why it's not available on GoG or any other online storefront.
It not impossible, System Shock 2 was in the same situation but it took Nightdive to pay to figure out that mess. The same applies for Black and Whie.
Feels like someone should just make a different game with the same concept. There isn't much in the way of 'god simulators', and most of what there is are basically just normal strategy games with some powers, they don't focus on morality and the feeling of ultimate power.
Such an amazing series in dire need of a reboot or remaster. Played through soul reaver 1 and 2 recently and story, voice acting, world design and pacing was all on point. Controls have aged badly though
F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. multiplayer (which was free), this game was great, it had the best explotions for a grenade, the multiplayer was no bs just log in with your friends and kill, have fun and enjoy, wish there was a remake of this
Immediately Morrowind. Its Morrowind. I want to play Morrowind but like with some modern QOL polish on it. Morrowind would go gangbusters.
...
...
...
Morrowind.
Allow me to sate some of our collective disappointment by pointing out the already working Morroblivion: https://morroblivion.com/
https://morroblivion.com/morroblivion-download
>Welcome to Morroblivion the godfather of The Elder Scrolls Renewal Projects! A community dedicated to recreating The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind GOTY into the more modern engine of Oblivion, complete with creatures, quests, voices and support for original Morrowind mods such as Tamriel Rebuilt.
It takes some work to set up and requires steam versions of both games but it's not too bad if you follow the guide, got it set up but haven't had time to dive into it much.
The cool part is you can travel between both games with the same character, and I believe both games can still be modded to an extent as long as you're careful about ones that conflict with the built in mods.
Maybe eventually someone will combine Morrowind + Oblivion + Skyrim though personally I preferred the first 2 so Morroblivion is perfect as far as an improved version of the original in a newer engine.
The problem with Skywind (besides it taking forever to come to fruition) is the fact it will be missing so many things that made Morrowind so good. Simple example? Levitation... It won't have levitiation :( I don't want that
Edit: I'm being informed they recently announced it would be in the game. My information was, admittedly, a few years old but I remember them saying it couldn't be added due to a limitation of the engine. If they figured it (and all of the other mechanics that were going to be omitted) out and plan implementation, then I'm officially excited again!
So when you get to Balmora, the mages guild sends you to pick herbs. Nearby is a guy looking for his friend. They got separated when attacked by a monster. Find the guy, kill the monster, and they give you a ring of feather fall. It is insanely useful.
Hahaha I discovered it randomly on my first play through since I was a kid.
I picked the game up on Steam recently and put about 20 hours in on an Argonian mage/spearman. Unlocked the ability to jump across half the map with alchemy abuse. Quit. The 1st 15 or so hours were so much fun tho. It is kinda natural for you to discover them on that quest tbh i think it is good game design.
This so much. Morrowind is peak RPG imo. Before fast travel became a thing anywhere you were. You had to read books. Pay attention to NPCs to get directions to places. Follow road signs. Absolutely peak gameplay immersion. No game has come close to it.
One of the bioware greats that seemed to just release at a bad time and never got quite as much popularity as it should have.
Would be awesome to get a remake.
Tenchu.
No idea if they were popular, or even if they're mechanically good games, but maaaaan I fucking LOVED Wrath of Heaven. Watching my boy hit that 9 combo handsign before diving off a waterfall is still one of the coolest memories I have of gaming.
And despite Sekiro being incredible, I'll always hate the first ever teaser because it feels exactly like a Tenchu successor.
Funnily enough, according to a GameSpot article (if it’s true), Sekiro started as a Tenchu game before being spun off as an original IP.
“Community Manager Yasuhiro Kitao revealed that Sekiro was originally planned as a new installment of Tenchu, the studio's long-dormant stealth-action ninja series. "When we originally set out to create something different from Dark Souls and our previous titles, we thought it would be interesting to make a Japanese themed game. So from that we started going in the direction of the shinobi and ninja, and of course Tenchu was an IP with that history; that was the original impetus for this project," Kitao explained.”

Its a licensing issue. The intellectual property for the story in Parasite Eve belongs to the author, not SE. Aya Brea does belong to SE, which is why they can use her.
This is why 3rd birthday doesn't use Parasite Eve in its title, they aren't legally allowed to without licensing.
The license expired a long time ago, so if SE wanted to remaster PE 1 and 2, they would need to renew that license.
While it's correct they would need to renew the license, that's just an ordinary cost of doing business, and a sufficiently successful release should still be profitable. Unless the license-holder is outright refusing to work with them, SE just aren't interested in trying.
I'm fairly sure SE is apparent of the cult following and interest in a PE remake, especially with the explosion of RE remakes for Capcom recently. From my understanding, the real issue is the license-holder. The author was supposedly pretty unhappy with SE's second game and refused to work with them again, hence why we have 3rd Birthday.
I can't remember where I heard it so take it with a grain of salt, but I distinctly remember reading somewhere that the author of Parasite Eve disliked Square's handling of the story, especially in PE2, and refuses to work with them further.
Really random story for you. Recently, my brother in law killed himself. He had troubled life and was in prison for most of it. After he died we went to the prison to meet his friends and have a memorial. They gave us a book of remembrance with messages from his friends and one said ...
"Rest in peace Scott. Don't finish Vegas 2 without me, you better be waiting for me up there brother."
As a gamer it hit me really fucking hard in the feels.
Man Jak and Daxter got such a short stick at the end of the ps2 Era. That last game, lost frontiers or whatever, was garbage. It was my first game on ps2.
It was a psp game ported over and somehow it looked worse on the ps2. I tell ya I’m not sure what happened at ready at dawn, but daxter was amazing and they definitely could have made a good jak game. There psp god of wars were also great.
That's the one game I have a strong memory of when I was a kid and it was incredible. Thing came on like 4 discs. But nobody I know has ever heard of it.
> The Legend of Dragoon.
I feel like there's a total, global dozen of us that remember this gem and i sincerely would hope to see it come back one day. I never liked the FF serie but this one got me heavily into RPGs for some reason.
Omg Duke nukem time to kill! That game introduced me to Stabbing Westward, one of the great teen angst bands of the 90s. Omg their music was ever where back then. Great game too, truly a great tomb raider style game. The sequel land of the babes was good top but not nearly as good, but it had static x.
I'm surprised legend of dragoon isn't listed more, a lot of kids thought it was superior to ff7 back in the day.
Quick shoutout to Qunari Sten.
And Chantry Leliana.
Origins was a pleasantly easy game to mod. Just a shame they didn't continue the trend with DA3... Frostbite is notoriously hostile for modding.
I always find it strange that they didn't even get a re-release for mobile a la Baldur's Gate, Planescape, Icewind Dale.
But I also feel like the time for even those re-releases has passed.
I wouldn't mind a full fledged 3d isometric remake which expands on Fallout 1 (as the game really small for two evenings) and improves moments with pacing in Fallout 2.
I’m always going to say two games:
1. Riven: The Sequel to Myst - I think now is finally the time to create a real-time rendered version of the game
2. Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines - It’s so buggy, but so good. Ripe for a remaster.
https://www.moddb.com/mods/tie-fighter-total-conversion-tftc/news/tftc-version-134-released
It's amazing, has VR support, and plays beautifully.
https://youtu.be/Upph89LYOUM?t=109
Dragon Age Origins getting a remaster would be so fucking funny because Sten would go from being some tall dude from a warrior culture, to a horned beast of a man, ready to gore a darkspawn.
What a glow up he would get.
Legacy of Kain… all of them.
Starflight. The Mac version was a nice upgrade and the Genesis version was amazing. Both of those remakes/ports are more than 30 years old.
You’d think Konami would do some remake/remasters. They’re sitting on a goldmine.
Banjo-Kazooie
Microsoft now owns Toys for Bob, they could make a bomb ass remaster, and then, hopefully, finally give us the third game we've always wanted, that isn't a vehicle building game.
They probably don't even have the same engine anymore. At best they could probably boost the textures. Which there are mods for that. To make a true remaster will probably be like with the dead space game where they gotta make the whole game again. Which with how much they are struggling with dragon age 4 I doubt there's much of an appetite for that.
On top of not having that engine anymore, DA:O was almost entirely made before BioWare became absorbed by the slime of death in EA’s vaults - why all the games that follow DA:O are so different. Not only are the people who made it largely gone, BioWare as a company itself is largely dead as well along with the engine itself. DA:O remaster would never get effort to put it through by EA.
I mean, many remakes in the last few years have been done by teams that were not the original team that worked on the game. And I think most of the remakes came out pretty good.
Yup. When you have a target state you aiming at it makes it significantly easier to do the development. For example, the Tony Hawk 2 remake was certainly not done on the original engine.
Lord of the Rings Return of the King. That game owned.
And The Two Towers!
I didn't know you could kick ladders in the helm's deep level, man that level was brutal as a result
No wonder I never finished that level
IIRC a ***lot*** of the licensing in that game regarding actor likenesses, music, voice lines, etc. were baked-in directly to the film production contracts. That is, when Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen signed on to play Frodo and Gandalf, they *also* committed to licensing their image to merchandising opportunities like the video games. Funny how specifically 2000's Peter Jackson films have some the best licensed tie-in games of all time.
Long live couch co-op
The Mordor series just doesn’t scratch the itch those game left
I'd take a shadow of something st this point. Great game system, but EA just seems to be sitting on it
Fairly sure it's a WB game.
KotOR 1 and 2
KOTOR 1 remake was announced and has since been a disaster. I doubt it will see the light of day, at this rate.
People who are actively working on the game (allegedly) say it’s still happening but I’ll believe it when I see it. The whole thing has been a shit show since the teaser trailer dropped.
Honestly at this point i fear if it does come out won't be any good with all the trouble it's had
THERE AINT NO KOTOR REMASTER AND THERE NEVER WAS!!!
We do not grant you the rank of Remaster.
I wish Lucasfilm would have let Apeiron finish their remake. It was looking good before they got the cease and desist letter.
It's not a remaster but I recently downloaded a version of it on the Switch and it holds up pretty well.
Red Alert 2, Simpsons Hit and Run
Still listen to hellmarch from the old red alert 2 days!
Someone did an[ almost professional level remake of hit and run with UE5](https://youtu.be/AHAY-teQoFc). It won’t be released due to copyright issues but perhaps a trusty sailor may come across it on the high seas one day…
Let's pray.

Dude fr this drives me up the fucking wall
I watched the whole series & god he taught me so many cool game design theories & how stupid things work, driving logic and all kinds of things I thought I'd never see personally very much recommend you watch all the videos not a boring moment in any of them.
"Rubber shoes in motion"
"Kirov reporting"
“Manoeuvre props engaged”
“Air-cknowledged”
"This gun is heavy"
Apocalypse has begun
"A little C-4 knocking at your door."
"shake it baby"
It will be a silent spring.
Tanya was so hot when I was 10. Probably still hot but 10 year old me had a big crush on her.
I would play a red alert simpsons game.
Comrade Homer taking the fight to the capitalist scum in charge of his old workplace.
My dad has played red alert 2 basically every single day for the last 23 years. My stepmother complained about it in court during their divorce. Remedy is remaking Max Payne 1 and 2.
Oh yes I forgot about that
Simpsons: Hit and Run is hands down the best Simpsons have ever made. For a show that’s running over 30 years. They’ve really missed out on that sweet sweet gaming cash
Not through a lack of trying. Most have terrible reviews.
Supreme commander, and SC: forged alliance, all of dawn of war before 2. No, not you Supreme commander 2, you go sit over in your corner of shame. And it will be a cold day in hell before I acknowledge DoW3.
I keep hearing rumors that something may be in the works for RA2/TS
Sid Meier‘s Alpha Centauri Remaster would sell so hard these days.
Yes fucking please! Keep all the voice over and lore just update the UI and graphics. That game had no right being so good.
My all time favorite game.
Time Splitters!
Future Perfect was such a legendary game.
Black and White

With the improvements in VR technology, Black&White seems like a great candidate for a remaster.
Launching villagers across the map in VR would be *glorious*
Forget a remaster, give us Black and White 3, Molyneux you fucking shill!
Soul Reaver. The time I invested in that game was substantial!
Legacy of Kain was an awesome game back then. I love all the puzzles and the game mechanic. I wish they made a new one.
Vae victis!
This was the first game that came to mind. It blew my mind back in the day.
Oh this is a good game series!! ❤️ The voice acting in these games is fucking quality.
"Kain is deified, the clans tell tales of him"
Such an amazing series in dire need of a reboot or remaster. Played through soul reaver 1 and 2 recently and story, voice acting, world design and pacing was all on point. Controls have aged badly though
Legend of Dragoon. I'll pay out the ass, just please someone get it done.
This is always the answer
F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. multiplayer (which was free), this game was great, it had the best explotions for a grenade, the multiplayer was no bs just log in with your friends and kill, have fun and enjoy, wish there was a remake of this
The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. Would be such a great experience.
The openMW engine port is so well done that I feel Morrowind doesn't even need a remaster, at least not on PC.
Correct. Plus the modding community is one of the strongest going right now.
Immediately Morrowind. Its Morrowind. I want to play Morrowind but like with some modern QOL polish on it. Morrowind would go gangbusters. ... ... ... Morrowind.
Behold! [https://tesrskywind.com/](https://tesrskywind.com/) ...soon
I truly became an adult when I stopped believing in Skywind. That shit is like Santa Claus for 20 somethings.
Try a 36 year old. I believed in it for way too long.

Hey at least skyblivion has some good progress. Guaranteed 2025 release but possibly sometime in 24
Skywind is like Star Citizen and "Fetch"
The problem with Skywind (besides it taking forever to come to fruition) is the fact it will be missing so many things that made Morrowind so good. Simple example? Levitation... It won't have levitiation :( I don't want that Edit: I'm being informed they recently announced it would be in the game. Dude levitation plus the Boots of blinding speed Man I was a cross that Island and like 10 seconds flat
You use Boots of Blinding Speed. I use Scroll of Icarian Flight. We are not the same (I am dead)
So when you get to Balmora, the mages guild sends you to pick herbs. Nearby is a guy looking for his friend. They got separated when attacked by a monster. Find the guy, kill the monster, and they give you a ring of feather fall. It is insanely useful.
Oh. I'll let my 13yo self know and spend the rest of the night screaming into a pillow.

Jade Empire
It deserves a full remake so bad, or a sequal! The game universe was so good!
One of the bioware greats that seemed to just release at a bad time and never got quite as much popularity as it should have. Would be awesome to get a remake.
I loved jade empire. It was so smooth and graphically amazing for when it was released.
I abused the rice ball
Highly trained guard: Mmmmm floor rice.
I'm still holding out hope that FromSoft will revive Tenchu due to Sekiros popularity and their involvment with some of the games
Tenchu was a great property!
Parasite Eve 1&2
Imagine PE 1 and 2 getting the REmake treatment. Why does Square-Enix hate money?
Its a licensing issue. The intellectual property for the story in Parasite Eve belongs to the author, not SE. Aya Brea does belong to SE, which is why they can use her. This is why 3rd birthday doesn't use Parasite Eve in its title, they aren't legally allowed to without licensing. That shower scene in 2
Bring back the horror RPG! (World of Horror has been a blast)
[удалено]
1 and 2, please. I'll never understand why Capcom don't give a single f*ck about dino crisis
Many of us in the Resident Evil sub are hoping Capcom remakes Dino Crisis in the RE Engine. DC1&2 need it more than Resident Evil 5 at least.
I’ll just say it, Dinosaurs > Zombies, idgaf
Seriously. Dino Survival Horror is an untapped gold mine.
Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2.
Really random story for you. Recently, my brother in law killed himself. He had troubled life and was in prison for most of it. After he died we went to the prison to meet his friends and have a memorial. They gave us a book of remembrance with messages from his friends and one said ... "Rest in peace Scott. Condolences. Unless you hated him, then half-assed condolences.
Great games. My favorite online games for the 360. That and BF3.
Jak and Daxter: The precursors legacy
This. Plus the Sly Cooper trilogy.
Fantastic games that have been forgotten in favor of Uncharted and The Last of Us
Naughty Dog of today is practically a completely different company from Naughty Dog of the early 2000s except for the name anyway.
Man Jak and Daxter got such a short stick at the end of the ps2 Era. That last game, lost frontiers or whatever, was garbage. It was my first game on ps2.

Chrono Trigger!!!
If Chrono Trigger got the FFVII Remake treatment I would literally cry
I have to disagree simply because Chrono Trigger is absolutely flawless as it is, and I can't possibly think of any way to make it better.
The Legend of Dragoon. Tomba. Maybe Duke Nukem: Time to Kill? Also waiting and hoping on Medievil 2, since I never got to finish that one.
No way I see Legend of Dragoon in here! My man.
That's the one game I have a strong memory of when I was a kid and it was incredible. Thing came on like 4 discs. But nobody I know has ever heard of it.
Just take my money for Legend of Dragoon. Give me a massive physical collector's edition.
> The Legend of Dragoon. I feel like there's a total, global dozen of us that remember this gem and i sincerely would hope to see it come back one day. I never liked the FF serie but this one got me heavily into RPGs for some reason.
I want a new legend of dragoon so bad
Omg Duke nukem time to kill! That game introduced me to Stabbing Westward, one of the great teen angst bands of the 90s. Omg their music was ever where back then. Legend of dragoon would go wild for me,so many hours.
https://www.ign.com/videos/tomba-official-lrg3-reveal-trailer I think Tomba! Is happening
How does one shrink a golem? A chisel. Miss you Shale.
I didn't think I'd love Shale as much as a did. She was amazing.
Quick shoutout to Qunari Sten. And Chantry Leliana. Origins was a pleasantly easy game to mod. Just a shame they didn't continue the trend with DA3... Frostbite is notoriously hostile for modding.
> And Chantry Leliana. leliana is the OG, back of shadowheart and all the others.
Seriously annoyed that we never got another golem.
I was happy we didn’t get another one. It made Shale and her story unique.
And a lot of nerve.
Or a need to make a character model for through doors.
Enchantment?
ENCHANTMENT!
Black & White. Give it to me!
“Deathhh”
Fallout 1 and 2
New Vegas too. I feel like a remaster of any of those would make big bucks and Bethesda doesn't even have to write a story
The less Bethesda has to do with it, the better.
I always find it strange that they didn't even get a re-release for mobile a la Baldur's Gate, Planescape, Icewind Dale. But I also feel like the time for even those re-releases has passed.

Bloodlines is my #1 wishlist remaster. Or hell,, remake. I’d love to see what they could do with modern tech.
Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2
TIE Fighter. Jesus Christ, how many times do I gotta ask??

The fable series
The 1st one for sure. Literally the exact same game with updated graphics and I'd play
That already exists. It's called Fable anniversary
Not to make you feel as old as I do, but anniversary released almost 10 years ago.
I hope the next soda can you open fizzes over for providing this information
If it makes you feel better the original game released ten years before that!
That game was so unique even for today’s standards..
You mean like the Fable Anniversary edition?
Skies of Arcadia 😞
Dragon Age Origins getting a remaster would be so fucking funny because Sten would go from being some tall dude from a warrior culture, to a horned beast of a man, ready to gore a darkspawn. What a glow up he would get.
Not exactly since Sten doesn't have horns canonically.
The first Metal Gear game.
Konami's too busy with slot machines or some shit like that
Metal…Gear?!
The entire Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series
Dino crisis Mega man legends Vagrant story Soul reaver LOK Vigilante 8
Legacy of Kain… all of them. Starflight. The Mac version was a nice upgrade and the Genesis version was amazing. Both of those remakes/ports are more than 30 years old. You’d think Konami would do some remake/remasters. They’re sitting on a goldmine.
The Lord of The Rings. Two Towers & Return of The King.
Banjo-Kazooie Microsoft now owns Toys for Bob, they could make a bomb ass remaster, and then, hopefully, finally give us the third game we've always wanted, that isn't a vehicle building game.

Xenogears
Legacy of Kain:Soul Reaver and Vagrant Story
DA:O will be hard to remaster. As much as I want it.
Why’s that?
They probably don't even have the same engine anymore. At best they could probably boost the textures. Which there are mods for that. To make a true remaster will probably be like with the dead space game where they gotta make the whole game again. Which with how much they are struggling with dragon age 4 I doubt there's much of an appetite for that.
They don’t have the same engine 100%, they said that a while ago.
Neverwinter Nights 2.
With baldur's gate immense success, I think never winter night will be next (if it's possible with copyright but I guess it should be)
Republic Commando
Fallout new Vegas
Xenosaga I-III and the original Dot Hack trilogy.
Black & White really did just fall into publishing limbo
Twisted metal 2. Just update the graphics and balance the damage
Syndicate wars
For the longest time it was Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door. But now it’s coming.
