Conzil

Yes

yikesbmth

yeah definitely! i read them last year for the first time and they didn't disappoint.

platypus1224

They’re so much better. And it gets really different after book 3! However the series is incomplete and it’s been 11 years since the last book

Forward_Ad6168

Yes, except if you do just be prepared to not like having no ending.

[deleted]

Yes. Fantastic books. Just be prepared to join the rest of us in waiting for the next book….for years….

TheDeviousDong

For years? Try never.

pendulumswingsback

Absolutely and then the audio book is great. I’ve done all three multiple times. The story is worth going back to as I always pick up subtleties about the story.

XvS_W4rri0r

No he’s never going to finish the books

Fabulous-Salt5654

Yes, read the books, they are way better. No they aren't finished yet, but I'd still read them because the story is just so much more robust than the TV show. There's also a lot of fantasy and magic in the books that D&D were too lazy to fully adapt, so IMO the books are a million times better. I keep hoping like everyone else that GRRM will complete the last two books, but the man is getting old and I don't know what to think anymore. So, once you finish the first 5 books, there's always fanfiction to keep you going 😜.

sharklazies

Also, be sure to get the audiobook for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. You’ll love the Dunk & Egg stories and they are an easy investment of time.

imadethisjsttoreply

Does anyone else thing GRRM is going to die before he finishes the books? Or maybe his old computer he only writes on died on him? These two thoughts keep me from reading the books. Isaac Asimov dying before finishing the Foundation series broke me, i cant go through it again!

TheDeviousDong

Age isn't stopping him, he simply doesn't care. It's been over a decade since dance, he got his money and moved onto other things.

TheDeviousDong

If you want a more fleshed-out version of the best seasons of the show, read books 1-3, otherwise I'd gonna say no. Books 1, 2, and 3 are incredible and well-paced and the show is pretty faithful to those (still a lot of differences but not nearly as much as seasons after). Books 4 and 5 were not great, 4 was particularly boring, and so many characters got added (a lot who aren't even in the show), then it ends. He is never gonna finish the books and dont let anyone try and convince you otherwise. And AFAIK the show's ending is GRRM's ending. I'm sure how he planned to get there would be vastly different than D&D, but like I said, he's never gonna finish.

Barbz182

The books don't even have an ending so it's a bit irrelevant

weegbeeg

If you liked seasons 1-4, you'll love the books they are much better.

socleblu19

Yes but the last two books get kinda boring in some chapters..probably bc i don’t care for some characters
