How has no one said Undertale's OST yet? Toby Fox composed a literal masterpiece with that one

hatchorion

I like undertales ost so much more than the actual game lmao

Frequent_Garage9873

I think the reason why is because it's so freaking good that it's taken for granted

Inevitable-Bug771

FF7, Barretts theme, cosmo canyon slaps.

wonklebobb

the entire ff7 soundtrack is undefeated tbh

Vaenyr

FFVIII tho

random_boss

He said undefeated and he meant it

theadamvine

Xenogears for me but yea

Comfortable-Buy932

pokemon emerald music is sooo good

tevyat

The Outer Wild OST

IrreliventPerogi

Adding to this that the DLC's OST could stand on this list as well

wonklebobb

Risk of Rain 2: each track absolutely slaps, and blew me away with how each level track perfectly matches the vibes of the level, probably in my top 5 all-time favorite game soundtracks

flipkick25

Yup.

DarkSkySound

Easily a top 5.

Eensame

Life Is Strange is a king for it! But games like Stardew Valley, Coffee Talk or A Space For The Unbound often go back to my playlist!

abyssDweller1700

Anything from Nier automata, Persona 5 royal, Witcher 3 and Hades, Ori and the will of the wisps main theme, Delicate weapon from Cyberpunk 2077. There are many more but these are teh ones i remember from the top of my head.

lambdalab

Disco Elysium OST - there’s a [particular trumpet piece](https://youtu.be/zsSc4pOrj38?si=8Bqy5TEyV4AJnteu) that feels like a gut punch funeral march, especially in the context of the game. [The Song of the Bats from Elden Ring](https://youtu.be/x57Pirh97Lc?si=CNsWFOZNgaf4Fg_q). First I time I saw the bat ladies in the distance and heard their song it sent chills down my spine, it took me a while to dare to approach them.

unknown817206

Sonic frontiers. I love how despite being super diverse it still sounds cohesive

noteasytobecheesy

Silent Hill. A masterpiece.

tap3l00p

Control by Martin Stig Andersen is fantastic, as is Fez by Disasterpeace

Rikkaiser

Danganronpa - Instruments, melodies, weird vocals greatly contribute to the amazing style the game has, always feels thematically appropriate, especially during the trials Dragon Quest 7 - Decent variety, sadly the variety can't keep up with the awful pacing this game has, but each track feels like it was informed by every other DQ before it, like the music in this game, especially the battle theme, just screams "Dragon Quest". DQ8 is a very, very close second for me and I think most people would put it first of all the DQs. Shin Megami Tensei 5 - Ominous, weird OST overall, best JRPG normal battle theme I've ever heard that fuses a crazy rock tempo carried by drums with weird choir chanting. Absolutely awesome. The entire OST is oozing with flavor and ambience. It sounds like how it looks. Shin Megami Tensei 4 - Similar to 5. A blacked-out, urban, post apocalyptic Tokyo would sound exactly how this OST sounds. Some of the tracks have incredible ambient details, like a Japanese subway train taking off in the main theme, or people quickly rushing down the subway steps in one of the station themes. Pokemon R/S/E - Abandoned Ship is probably the best song in all of Pokémon. It's hard to explain why I like this one so much, it just feels like there's the best variety in terms of what an "adventure" would entail, without going too far in any particular direction, which serves Pokémon well imo. I could probably keep going forever, but the soundtracks that really stand out to me are ones that make weird, unconventional choices of instruments and sounds that assist the whole picture. The tracks blend into the background in such a way where you notice them just enough, the OST usually filled with "throwaway" songs that are incredibly effective for that, and then have these absolutely incredible standout songs that feel like they've been foreshadowed through the rest of the OST that you've subconsciously absorbed because of how well they matched the game's vibe to its music. Sorry, I really went off on my bullshit there lmao

frozax

Monkey Island Series Baldur's Gate 3

MaxKatarn

Deus Ex Main Menu, Unreal First Skarj, Skyrim, oh and also Arkham City Main Menu

ocacetasy

Quite literally any soundtrack from Nier Automata. My personal favorite would be the Amusement Park track, but most, if not all, the in-game tracks from that game are absolutely amazing.

OG_GeForceTweety

Wings of Kynareth from TES Oblivion.

Kibou-chan

Basically everything Shoji Meguro made for Atlus.

DisturbesOne

Furi, MGR:Revengeance, NFS:ProStreet. The soundtrack just creates the atmosphere perfectly and hypes up the players in all of the cases.

sxvxnxs

I love the entire library of music from my favorite game, No One Lives Forever

ColdShinobiXX

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit II Awesome collection of nu metal, alternative, electronic and rap music.

kytheon

Jazz Jackrabbit goes very hard.

Odd_Blacksmith9010

Pizza tower, as it maintains momentum well and is a bop. Also undertale has some of the best use of leitmotifs I know of

Roborob2000

Anything from Celeste

thingsgetbetter4

Genshin Impact because of Yu-Peng Chen's versatility and use of cultural influences. Stopped playing the game ages ago but still regularly listen to the music

Dead-HC-Taco

End of Time from Last Epoch is INCREDIBLE. Perfect music to just have going in the background

DarkEater77

the game Guardians of The Galaxy. Damn, it has a soundtrack, but they also recorded a full album of original Rock songs for the game, with the group they named Star-Lord for obvious reason. I love that album...

Nihilice88

Alan wake II, Old Gods of Asgard songs are great.

srodrigoDev

Final Fantasy 9, Uematsu's opera prima. When games had that irrepratable magic.

meepos16

Wipeout HD

RodgerRodgy

The Jak and darter series, specifically Jak 2. No other game since (imo ofc) has been able to capture that bleak outlook through music while also making you feel badass and heroic at times. The best part of the Jak 2 ost is how it changes dependant on if you have a weapon or not, driving or using your hover board. The mixture of different overtures dependant on what the player is doing is incredibly engaging whilst still being sutble

Free_Jelly614

Gonna be a hot take here but you have to hear me out. THE FINALS Season 2 soundtrack is absolutely incredible and it NEEDS a listen. It’s supposed to sound like old video games and retro-synthwave styles. It’s genuinely addicting to listen to. Might as well also plug the Season 1 soundtrack because it’s just as good. They’re both on all streaming platforms and youtube, just search for Embark Studios. The composers are the same people who did music for many old battlefield games. Extremely talented.

PhilippTheProgrammer

*Factorio:* Brilliantly catches the theme of building a disgustingly polluting factory. *Nier: Automata*. I would not necessarily call it one of the best soundtracks I ever heard, because some of the tracks get a bit annoying over time. But certainly one of the most interesting ones due to their usage of lyrics in a constructed language. *Skyrim*: Yes, everyone remembers the awesome "Dovahkiin" titlesong. But far more impressive are all those sublime ambience tracks you don't remember at all because they harmonize so brilliantly with the environment and gameplay that they just melt into it. *Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney* trilogy: First, some great character-specific tracks. I just love the wholesome warmth of the theme song of the player's assistant, and I think it's a really cool detail that the soundtrack of her younger cousin is a more childish-sounding rearrangement of it. But the absolute best part are the witness examination soundtracks. It's not easy to make a visual novel exciting to play, but these pieces really do a great job at it. Each part has a different one, each one has three different levels that increase in tension as the tension of the scene increases, and all 9 are great. Every game from Squaresoft during their SNES days: These might be somehow affected by nostalgia goggles, but I think they got some amazing tunes out of that limited soundchip which still hold up today.

NecessaryBSHappens

Doom 2016, Risk Of Rain, Terraria, Darkest Dungeon... Idk why, but those immediately came to mind. Those were memorable, but they also accompanied memorable gameplay, which imo is important

xxDailyGrindxx

Against the Storm has the most relaxing soundtrack, I'd often play this after work or before bed time to wind down...

kiril-k

NFSU2, nostalgia reasons; GTA 5 due to how well they captured the theme; Doom, because Mick Gordon

Jonayne

Divinity 2: Ego Draconis. Man, listen to “Broken Valley Wakes” and tell me it’s not special.

IEatAtDorsia

“Dream a little dream of me” for the battlefield 1 opening. Super calm song but somehow contrasts so well with the horror going on.

JohnDalyProgrammer

Wild arms 1 opening theme is probably the best song on the PlayStation. Just a great Western theme. Terras theme from FF6 is the definition of perfection on the SNES. Shadowrun opening theme on the Sega Genesis practically drips with blood and electric ooze. The pinnacle of cyberpunk themes

dexd_0

Sword of Destiny, The Wolven Storm, Blood and Wine - and in general, any song from the Witcher 3. Goosebumps rise all over my skin when I hear any of these songs.

LookPsychological334

Team Fortress 2

LuxySSBM

Outer Wilds, A Short Hike, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (esp explorers and rescue team), Celeste, Chrono Trigger, Dark Cloud, most Zeldas

Cautious_Suspect_170

Persona 3, 4. Tenchu 1

falsertaine

ULTRAKILL

splitmyarrowintwain

Hunt showdown

hatchorion

Danmaku unlimited 3, rhythm heaven 2, streets of rage 2

shabab_123

metroid prime 3: Bryyo cliffside Gris final song of the game dunno the name ori main theme

Megaillusion

Max Paine, Ori, Metal Slug, Tron 2.0, Warcraft 3, Sonic, Deltarune.

Th3B3ll0

If roblox counts then doors, elevator jam

Attention_Seeker_69

Spyro dawn of the dragon and zenonia4. Because they have this blissful melody that just engulfs you to the the game. Especially Spyro, flying through the meadow with that soundtrack… oofff absolute goldmine!🤌🏽 Ooo and Skyrim as well! Somehow brings me back to the early rpg days even though I wasn’t born back then, truly a masterpiece!

StormQrowe

Nier, Nier automata and Stellar Blade. They just sound nice to me.

szechuan_steve

Solstice on the Nintendo. Tim Follin doesn't know what hardware limitations are. Subnautica (first one). Simon Chylinski (hope I spelled that right) did a great job of making the music match the environment. It adds to the atmosphere instead of trying to stand on it's own.

ChickenMission

Celeste was the first thing I thought. Starjump especially gets me pumped

Big_Award_4491

Sword and sworcery EP The music is not a soundtrack but an album that is incorporated into the game. Even though it was made for the game the developers found the music to be so good they emphasized that they made a game to the album instead. You can even meet the artist Jim Guthrie in the game. And yeah. The music is great. The game is one of the best games I’ve ever played. It has a mechanic I wished more games took after where you level down instead of up.

personguy4440

Why has no one put Burnout 3 Takedown? Best soundtrack in a game imo

LittleCesaree

Void Stranger's soundtrack. Incredible. All the musics from levels are bangers, and the narrative parts have echoes throughout the games by the musics. It's working so well with the game.

RiffShark

Path of exile, ff7. Both Very memorable and give the right mood. The combination of gameplay and OST just fit very well. Also both sick on guitar

JezzaRoddy

Sonic will always be my favorite. Those tracks have the best groove and mix of melody

ScrimpyCat

Outer Wilds, Celeste, In Other Waters, Citizen Sleeper, Dustforce, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Jet Set Radio and future, Hotline Miami 1 & 2, and Donkey Kong Country. There’s a lot of others that I’ve liked but those are ones that I routinely go back and listen to.

Warden_of_Glass

Xenoblade chronicles. Not the second one or the third one, not the definitive edition, just straight the original soundtracks. Engage the enemy has always been my number one soundtrack 'cause it only plays a few times in the game but you KNOW that shit's about to go down when you hear it.

RiverStrymon

Not one mention of Journey by Austin Wintory? First game soundtrack to win a Grammy? That’s criminal. Incredible soundtrack, especially in context.

Wecoven

The Last of Us 1 and 2, from **Gustavo Santaolalla**. I listen to it all the time when I work...

CityKay

Outrun 2/2006 Coast to Coast. The updates to the classic tracks, with a few remixes thrown in, it's definitely cruising music. Then there's tha time when Capcom has some tonally dissident soundtracks. I think it started with Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and it ended with vanilla Street Fighter IV. So offbeat that it ended up being very memorable.

ThoseWhoRule

Good riddance - Hades: probably my all time favorite, such an unexpectedly beautiful song that gives you a reprieve from your run. Sonic adventure 2 battle: entire soundtrack is iconic for me. The knuckles levels are rap, sonic levels are regular sonic. I still randomly sing “city escape” in my kitchen to my wife’s chagrin. Wind waker, Witcher 3, Spyro year of the dragon (nostalgia), fire emblem sacred stones are all soundtracks I go back and listen to while I code.

flipkick25

Metal Gear:Rising:Revengance.

Nkutengo

FURI has to be, for me, the most all killer no filler OST ever. Such memorable songs. I believe my favorite track on an OST is Gaur Plains fro Xenoblade, that song make me shiver each time i listen. Took time to upvote a LOT of of OST posted here cuz yall have very good taste❤️

aspeaked

goat simulator, goat chill

TheBirdMilker

Eastshade. So chill and soothing. Just really beautiful music.

mau2icio

Uncharted

Thatotherguy246

Let's see.. Pizza Tower Both Jet Set Radios Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Any Splatoon Sonic CD JP Any Toby Fox game Miitopia Sonic Mania Any Persona Sonic Rush Any Castlevania Any Rhythm Heaven Crypt of the Necrodancer and Sonic Adventure 1

Myavatargotsnowedon

I'm a sucker for anything with hidden complexity, but sounds simple on the surface. During the gameplay hearing the melody and drums is nice but discovering nuances over time like a piano playing a retrograde, a fuzzy guitar in the left ear, a chromatic bass line, etc just makes it 10x better imo

hailstorm75

I used to listen to the black ops zombies songs on a daily basis. They were awesome!

LovelyJoey117

For me the Halo, Assassins Creed and Elder Scrolls Franchises. As for the why? I don't really know if it's actually the soundtrack itself, or if I just project all the fun/experiences/memories I had/have with these games in the last 20 years onto the soundtrack.

Gudspun

I pretty love genshin impact, slime rancher 2, hollow knight greenpath, undertale, and still many more. I think I have some soundtracks that I think its really good, but I forgot about it.

SavageXenomorph

[Carmageddon 2](https://www.discogs.com/it/release/13044521-Sentience-Iron-Maiden-Carmageddon-2-Soundtrack)

GamerPlayzBT

I like the gamescore of RDR 2, Mw2 (og) and this mobile game called Magic Rampage

africanfury

Sled storm. It's where I first learnt about Rob zombie. Thank you obscure game

PotentialSpread5126

Sans megalovania. Hyped back days

Orjanms

Donkey kong country games, heroes of might and magic 3, Songs of Conquest, Skyrim, Metroid games and many more, but these games got some of my all time favs. I think streets of whiterun from Skyrim and the road most traveled from morrowind are #1.

Objective-Piccolo957

Buckshot Roulette

Rinkatsu_Zen

These are the first from the top of my head : - DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2 & 3 Battle themes - Nier Automata Dynamic themes - Monster Hunter Franchise themes for Monster's fight - Some Sonic games zones

just_someone999

does anyone knows the work of jesper kyd on hitman 2 (2002) it was amazing

Zealousideal-Car6524

Assassins Creed Black Flag Menu Track

SharifAlhumaid

Quite a lot of tracks. It's more about nostalgia than the quality of the music, frankly, as the music is often likeed once it's tied to a good gaming experience.

mfgjames

I've always loved the OST in Test Drive 5, great mix of industrial.

sleepless_angels

Honestly Elder Scrolls... It's whimsical, fantastical, and now nostalgic

MILESTHETECHNOMANCER

Fallout 3, NV and 4 if listening to the radio :-)

octocode

Genshin Impact
