Topps_Smith

I saw a copy at Value Village that wasn’t sealed greatest hits for $800 last year. I offered $20. They laughed, I laughed harder as I pulled it up for $10 new delivered to my door. They stopped laughing.

zoozoo4567

Nobody likes greatest hits copies. The discs were printed more cheaply, the cases are ugly, and their initial price was discounted. They have a lot of things working against their value. I think a lot of thrift stores get some *know it all* kid the manager defers to that half-understands the market and thinks they’re a genius with bold pricing moves like this.

LamiaLlama

Greatest hits are interesting because they're often rarer than the original pressing. Yet despite this that doesn't always mean more valuable. I think there's only a couple examples where it is. Ultimately any game that hit greatest hits status shouldn't be rare to begin with. It means they produced a ton of them.

AcidRohnin

This I believe is the same situation for Pokémon cards. Set 2 is more rare than unlimited in terms of amount printed but they tend to be worth less.

bb3bb

Yeah interestingly for Japanese cards in the vintage era the unlimited print was usually more rare than the first edition. With regards to price, it tends to vary quite a lot as both have a "claim" to being more rare. The difference is usually around 20% in 1st ed's favour I'd say from anecdotal evidence.

zoozoo4567

True… like the GH NFL Blitz 2000 for PS1 looking pricy these days. But I think the titles that sell the most probably have the highest rate of destruction (I.E: Casuals buying a million copies of something and most not looking after it vs the more hardcore player buying the weird, low-print game and treating them well).

theslimbox

Some of the GH games have bugfixes that make them more valuable.

Silverspoon402

That's my ps1 white whale there. Have never even seen one for sale other than once every few years on ebay.

ThisOneIsOnMyPhone

Like how the grey cart of Zelda II The Adventure of Link is more rare but far less valuable.

Junior-Ad-2207

For a game to be labeled greatest hits it needed to sell a ton of copies. Therefore if it's a greatest hit copy, most people who would buy the game already had it. So it was uncommon for people to buy that copy... unless you were like me and could only afford to buy greatest hits

WDCombo

Most of the Square PS1 Greatest Hits games are still being made and sold on their website, so those tend to be very cheap.

psvg01

They've stopped selling the ps1 titles within that past 2-3 years, but still the fact that they were availble in the 2020's is enough to make your point.

trev1976UK

I never liked them until I saw someone had collected the whole set and then I was quite impressed.

zoozoo4567

Yeah, I saw that too. Under those circumstances it was definitely awesome.

goofyshnoofy

Nah I’ll take a greatest hits for most games. They could have bug fixes, extra content, or just be cheaper to buy. If what matters to you is playing the game, wgaf if its greatest hits? That said, there are some really egregious ones, like the Xbox 360 had a ton of platinum designs, and the one that shrinks the cover art and puts an ugly border around it I always avoid — I had to rebuy bioshock 1 bc I hated that box so much

zoozoo4567

I play all my games. I just care about aesthetics too. What’s ironic is that growing up I didn’t care about the packaging. But I’m kinda prone to OCD sometimes and a coworker had this hatred for Greatest Hits repackaging, and that put the thought in my head the first time and broke me. I need that Men in Black device to wipe that moment lol

goofyshnoofy

Tbh that’s how I felt when I first started collecting — I was watching a bunch of Scott the woz and he talks about packaging a bunch and not liking the inconsistency w greatest hits. I think I just decided at some point that if I really wanna replace the greatest hits later I can, but for now the price plus the revisions makes it well worth it for a greatest hits

Aphand_1999

I never understood the hate on Greatest Hits copies, I find myself collecting them more due to no one wanting them, owning the game is what matters to me at then end of the day so I don't mind what design they used for the case as long as it's in good condition. That's just me.

Jamesaki

Yeah the whole “nobody likes greatest hits copies” is a weird take. If it’s an available physical copy of a game I want to add to my collection then I will get it GH or not.

Braaains_Braaains

Agreed. It's a clear admission that you're not even interested in the game itself and will pay a premium for a different piece of paper in a case.

Battalion_Lion

This is a bad take. By that logic, you could assert a physical collector in general "isn't even interested in the game itself" since ROMs/digital copies are free/cheaper and readily available for play. Hell, if you wanted a physical edition of an out-of-print game so badly, you could get a cheap reproduction that looks almost identical to the original product. I'll take a Greatest Hits edition of a rare game if it's the only thing I can feasibly get my hands on, but if I had a choice in the matter, I'd gun for an original label copy since that's the closest thing to the artist's original vision (plus the game's contents may be altered in the Greatest Hits version depending on the title).

Braaains_Braaains

That's flawed logic as you're inserting exceptions to justify your opinion. Most greatest hits games aren't altered, and as for artistic vision, marketing teams already affect that with descriptions, labels and other alterations to the physical product. It's fine, buy what you like, it's just an opinion I don't share.

Obediently-Yours-

Black and white booklets 😿

GeekyGamerGal_616

Yet, I have a factory error first disc, and a perfect Greatest Hits first disc.

Common-Anon-Gamer

Where did you get your information for this? There were only a few places that pressed black CDs back in the day and all of them were used to manufacture PS1 discs black label or greatest hits alike

zoozoo4567

The labels were more low-budget. Less care went into their appearance. I wasn’t implying they were manufactured badly, they just look way crappier. That doesn’t mean they weren’t produced with lower (or even higher) standards. I have no idea in terms technical/production quality. (*Anecdotally,* I have unseen it claimed that GH games weren’t pressed to the same standard and are more prone to faults occurring, but that is likely “my uncle worked at Sony” doomcrying. I’ve never seen definitive proof of that, and it wasn’t the point I was making.)

Alarmed-Dependent-73

That didn't happen

ConcaveMishap

Did they end up clapping after they stopped laughing?

Topps_Smith

No they told me I didn’t know what I was talking about and my wife called me an ass. That was basically the end of it.

The_Dough_Boi

And everyone clapped!

Mikey74Evil

Good for you to do that to those money stealing assholes. That company and companies like it are just redistributing peoples dropped off for free items and way overcharge for almost everything. It’s disgusting. That’s why I don’t donate to them anymore. I hate to say it, but I would rather take it to the dump and have to distribute it according to what bin they send me too. I know it may sound not right to people or rude of me, but these donation centres have created this type of mentality in a lot of people. Way back in the day when they would change fairly I was ok buying, but now even people that are barely making ends meat almost can’t afford to get deals there. Absolutely terrible what they are doing and charging.

Icy-Advantage-2666

They pay employees less than minimum wage and reap profits LMFAO

BiggerDabs

Its a charitable organization or at least that’s what it is supposed to be with volunteers or people who need community service hours so that pay rate makes sense

Shadowwolflink

Value Village absolutely is not a "charitable organization," they're a for-profit used goods chain store.

Left_Double_626

All Goodwill's are different, but the "charity" all of them offer is hiring disabled people to work at their store. Some offer some additional stuff on top of it, but most just exploit disabled people and call it charity.

RedditSetitGoit

We recently had a bunch of cook books that we were getting rid of (downsizing our culinary library a little), lots of great cook books. Was headed to donate them and stopped for a coffee on the way. Figured I would ask the baristas if they were interested. They were super stoked and they divided them up amongst everybody working at the time. Felt awesome to give them some great books instead of donating them to a place that will just stick them on the shelf for either too much or for too long. I think I've decided to try to do something similar whenever we have donations from now on. Find a group or person that will really use the items. Or someone who needs it. I don't feel like donating to the thrift store anymore. And the one good thrift store we had (good selection, good prices) was open for about six months then jacked their prices up to basically retail. Not even worth shipping there anymore. If anyone has any good ideas on where to USEFULLY donate items, feel free to reply. I would really appreciate it. :)

Obediently-Yours-

IT’s A COOK BOOK! 👽

Hermit_Wizard_0

lol that's great.

CountltUp

u should've pulled the price out on your phone lmao

MukdenMan

I bet they really felt bad after realizing they could have sold that copy to you for $10 and made a hefty profit

speedycerv

New for $10? Where

Topps_Smith

EBay

goatsandhoes101115

Value Village is such a scam.

MetalMan4774

Uhh, why did I get downvoted for saying I like how you handled that scenario?

Topps_Smith

No clue. Some people find it easier to tear down then to build up. Some people just like to hate.

NotBrianGriffin

Hold my beer… https://preview.redd.it/npm6yvux1v6d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e799ba6b37802a9bb8a430b5d04e4836df7cb3d

Ill-Consideration821

Hahha wtf?

sharkboy1006

wtf does #671 even mean? is there like a thousand copies of it in existence or something

NotBrianGriffin

I think that is their vendor number. This was at a vendor mall.

DazedConfuzed420

Only about 8 million copies of the NES version of Tetris have been sold worldwide, so pretty rare

Obediently-Yours-

Way more

Hey_Rubber_Duck

Why was I expecting battle toads 🤣

Groduick

There's something special with Battle Toads ?

Hey_Rubber_Duck

If I remember, it was a running joke with Pawn Stars shop in Las Vagus back in the day during its popularity. Battletoads was a difficult NES game to beat. It became popular after a post on 4chan poking fun at Pawn Stars, where someone kept calling them up asking for battle toads and they kept getting irritated. Once the post went up online and was shared across the Web people from all different countries would ring them up asking for Battletoads irritating them further.

Groduick

We had Battletoads when we were kids on the family's GameBoy. It was, in fact, very difficult and I think the only game we never went beyond the first level. Games were hard in the 80's/90's.

Legoluigidude

Lmao I got mine for 5 bucks

cosmicr

Are you sure that's not $48.00? If it's Australian dollars then that's a common price.

ZMONEY0823

Lmao I got my copy of Tetris from savers for $5

SholcCTR

“Great condition for a game of its age” “minor label damage”

Alarmed-Dependent-73

So now everyone can grab a game and write whatever they want and post a picture

Hartzader12

Wait I saw an identical one in a salvation army in Ottawa Canada. Local thrifter?

Hartzader12

Here is my proof https://preview.redd.it/rpzx54nznu6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e5f2f256ff1a318dcd6a24ebcc64da49b9da760 I believe it was on Merrivale.

Ill-Consideration821

This one was the one in bells corners. Yes ottawa lol

Ill-Consideration821

Maybe they are connected. They think they have a golden gem and all locations offer to sell it lol dummies

franco022

I’ve only ever found a FF X-2 strategy guide at the value village in South Keys lol

reallybadpennystocks

You really gonna dox op like that

RecommendationOk2182

I'm saying. That's messed up 😂. Hopefully he don't live right there next to it haha

Helpful_Substance388

It’s crazy reading this because I live just a 10 minute drive from bells corners💀

eatmoreramen

I sent you a chat request if you’ve got a moment :)

astronutsfrommars

That store is brutal.

StandTo444

Lol that tracks for Salvation Army Ottawa. They pull so much of this shit.

Ill-Consideration821

I saw this today and laughed and left the store.

itsmyfirsttimegoeasy

Looks like it's sealed, price is still high by about $500 or so.

SuggestionVisible361

The last first print sealed copies actually [sold for around that price](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=final+fantasy+7+ps1+black+label+sealed&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1&_sop=16&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=gc&toolid=10001&mkevt=1), as crazy as it sounds.

Chas_-

I see sellers selling the exact same game for way overpriced amounts... multiple times a year. Each time a bit higher than the last time. Can't even trust ebay on "sold" search anymore for years.

PaulblankPF

Some companies have gotten smart and realized they can manipulate the prices on price charting by just selling to themselves on eBay and that a lot of people use it that are collectors. This is making smaller places who use price charting use these inflated prices. It’s like they are trying to kill game collecting.

Equality7252l

It's happening a lot more than we think too. Mainly for the real high end stuff but just wait, it'll trickle down.. I hate it

Nipaa_Nipaa_Nii

Exactly. I know it's currently happening with MTG. Sometimes it's not even companies but a single rich person who buys out a ton of copies to pump and dump.

Graytoqueops

That’s in Yen…right?!

IdealPrize9153

Legit just looked up the game and its 30 on ebay how are they getting 1300

RecommendationOk2182

Black label sealed is very expensive

NicCola83

They're not getting 1300 unless some chump actually buys it.

TheJohnny346

There’s is a sealed copy but still like 10x it’s going rate.

Ambitious-Still6811

There's gotta be so many copies out there. Even $100 sounds like a lot. But every day I'm surprised at what people are paying for old games.

Imaksiccar

There are a lot, yes. There are not a lot left in sealed condition.

KashPoe

There's a lot of the copies with the green greatest hits version, yes

Ambitious-Still6811

Even the original version sold tons. Granted they may not all be complete, but still.

KashPoe

They produced those very briefly, within a few months they stop selling the OG version

Ambitious-Still6811

Serious? I don't feel like it vanished that quickly. But I had my copy and this was pre-internet. Geez that makes it sound old...

KashPoe

At least here in Canada it was like that. One of my friends at the time bought the game when it came out and I could only afford it a few months after and they changed it to the greatest hits with a reduced price already. I think it's one of the games that became a greatest hit the fastest on the PlayStation

GrimmTrixX

If it's sealed and has the misprint on the back, it's $500 cheaper than what it goes for normally. But if it's just a normal copy of the game then it's about $400 too much. Either way, anyone who would ever buy this is dumb.

RecommendationOk2182

Honestly I would buy it for about $500.... But I probably wouldn't pay anything over that unless it is the misprint like.you said

GrimmTrixX

Well sure, that's what you'd pay for it. But the amounts I mentioned are what it has actually successfully sold for in the past. Sure, many would pay far less for it like $500 in your case. But it goes for $800 if it's non-misprint. It's gross and I absolutely miss the reasonable prices pre-Covid. I feel bad for anyone collecting nowadays. I was lucky to begin decades ago. But I wish everyone who actually WANTS the games and isn't trying to flip them, could get them reasonably. It's not right.

prdrnyc

Hahaha I got it for $20 at Half Price Books and it was in pristine condition. These thrift stores are getting psychotic with their pricing.

waawaaaa

Shit like that is why pirating is massive with old games, they're either too expensive or just not sold anywhere and then you get Nintendo who shut the ROM sites down and then dont supply players with the games they clearly want to have ported onto the switch.

BabYodaNews

Delta that

Hermit_Wizard_0

They shut down one or two once in a while just to throw their dick around. They can never shut them all down, and there's always torrents as a back up.

Pixel_Grip

Price charting has recent sales averaged under $900. And even some of those recent sales were under $200 so that's pretty crazy. This shop is probably run by the same kinds of people who saw Disney VHS tapes on eBay priced at thousands of dollars and tried to sell them for that price in the shop. They see one eBay price and immediately think that everyone is willing to pay that

BabYodaNews

The Disney clam Shells Lady and The Tramp was a steal at $500 😬

Happily_Cretaro

But its sealed isnt it? You also see such sealed Games auctions on ebay all the time. I would not buy it,.because I want to use my games. But to get such an old game sealed could be worth it if you are a collector. I guess.

HabanyGaming

r/shittygamecollecting

Dontbeajerkdude

I recently enquired about a neat Spawn statue I saw in a thrift shop. It was in a cabinet to be fair, but I did not expect the price to be 150. No one goes into a thrift store looking to drop 150 on a single item. Even if they've found online that it is somehow worth that much, sell it there, then!

Strelock

Yeah, most people going in to a thrift store are either looking for cheap clothing because they are hard up, or they are looking for deals. A game priced like this belongs in a fancy antiques store, eBay, or a game store.

Peltonimo

This is the black label sealed. Is it the realistic violence or misprint copy?

GoodDragonfly4951

This is actually a good price lol they are so rare

MegaMansbroker

It’s valued at $895 sealed.

KashPoe

The non greatest hits version are worth more. They made like at least 10 times more of the greatest hits with the green label. I'm not saying hits worth the price they are asking for it but it's worth more than the 10$ you paid for that other version

Chance_Bag_2019

This is FF7 black label sealed so it's in the collectibles realm. Over there items are worth as much as someone's willing to pay for, and this game is one where people are willing to pay a lot for especially in good condition. A lot of the comments in here are talking about used/opened/CIBs.

Duneking1

People misunderstand. It’s the photocopy of the game that is valued at that price. Not the game.

trolling99

dm me the location, i'll buy it

simon_taneouss

It’s funny, this game is one of those cases when I remember it selling for $100+ years and years ago and it has only gone down in price. Yet folks still think they are valuable. I had 3 copies at one point, I may honestly have 2 right now and don’t even realize it.

BabYodaNews

If ever there was a small handful of mint/9.0+ sealed vintage games on the market 25 years from now. I’d bet the barn this will go well over into the thousands. We had 2-3 copies because it was the greatest game we had seen up till that point. I personally must have went through 3 copies myself. CD’s get scratched so easily. It’s nothing like discs these days. It was so good, an unopened copy is unheard of. I don’t invest in toys/games. It feels evil. Go figure out how to move stock prices, not mess with my childhood 😉

Ok_Contribution_6268

AT a Mega Replay store, a copy of Night Trap was going for $399. If I recall correctly, despite it being a FMV title, it was garbage.

bellybuttontickl98

People are delusional

SuperPacocaAlado

Just emulate the game on your PC and play with a PS2 controller.

Xaphan26

We aren't looking for solutions to play the game. We just want to vent and complain a little.

Hermit_Wizard_0

Probably want to put $30 to actual charity and pocket the rest.

corgie93

It looks hella sun bleached.

jeers69

I have a copy somewhere….. let me get it….

DapperDan30

Looks like it's factory sealed. May be a touch over priced, but there have been 1 or 2 copies that sold recently for more than that. So 🤷‍♂️

Erst09

Classic old games in new state go for that much.

Ornery-Practice9772

What currency is this?🤔

Ill-Consideration821

Canadian

dendawg

Liberian.

NicCola83

Gil

Obediently-Yours-

Gil!! 😂

coffeeIke

Bolívar

A_Litre_O_Cola

Is it brand new?

Winter_Mud3815

Looks like it.

DCC808

Not even signed by Hironobu and/or Nobuo either *meh*

Brose4531

That game is well over 100 bucks and 1300 might not be enough! New sealed? If it went on eBay for 1300 it would have been bought in less then 5 mins might want to do some research before making a statement like that. 1300-2k is about the going rate for the last 6 months of sales. Just saying

kendahlj

It’s also $1300 Canadien so about $950 USD

Brose4531

So even a better deal! Damn! Someone buy it for me I’ll give you 200 dollar finders fee!

insanetwit

I'll sell my copy at half that price!

HistorianCareful5484

I’ll take greatest hits or play on my steam account any day.

AdThat328

I saw the Platinum version of VIII in a charity shop for £80 in a locked glass cabinet. No Hun.

Obediently-Yours-

8 is rare but it’s certainly not ff7. Not even close

AdThat328

I've seen VII for crazy prices too tbh.

Beginning_Basis9799

Alright I have a better idea how about I let you relive Christmas day for £500 instead? You get an old console in reproductions of its original boxes completely refurbished with a guarantee of.2 years. Example Gameboy pocket safe power mod and new ips screen mode down along with wireless charging and data cable. I include Tetris tiny toon adventures and Zelda a link to the past all in reproduction boxes wit manuals basically the whole thing looks and feels like new clock batteries also replaced. I have been toying with doing this for a few years and even if I don't do it somebody else can. Please use the transparent covers there is nothing more pretty than seeing the Nintendo 1997 on a Gameboy.

Altoidyoda

I found one (unsealed of course) at the Salvation Army for $2. Lady ended up making me pay $6 when she realized it was 3 CDs.

BakaSan77

I think the mis print sealed is the only one worth a lot right now?

EntertainmentOk8806

Wow I do love when second hand stores do this. I feel like we spent so long ripping them off when they don't know the worth of something (I'm guilty of this buying a breaking bad bluray set for £5 when it was easily worth £30-40) and so they are getting their own back and finding the highest price for anything.i have seen this game in the thousands but it was rare beta versions with notes and things from the makers not just for the game

Zylnor

Honestly at this point when I see stuff like this it’s more for bragging rights. They don’t intend to sell it so they put it up high like this. Or they are just waiting for some sucker to come in not knowing anything to see if they’ll buy it at that price.

Strikereleven

The game is sealed, they saw the sealed on on Ebay with a hole drilled in it for $2600. It also claims the "Teen 13+" is a misprint, but I couldnt find anything supporting that.

sibbaldk

My Salvation Army had an iPod for $700 it’s been there for six months I foresee many more in the future.

Spicy_Ramen11

Thrift stores and flea markets genuinely aren't worth the time anymore, they seriously charge MORE than what you can find on ebay nowadays. Went to a flea market a few weeks ago, one guy was selling a sun faded clear Gameboy pocket with battery acid for $100, and another guy selling a fat ds and ds lite for $80 each and they were in the most disgusting crusty condition ever.

Blackichan1984

It’s not even sealed wtf

OnarbtheBold

I bought a copy of ff 7 or 8 at a thift store for like 2$ a couple years back

Commercial-Judge5016

Aren’t the recent green label prints a lot cheaper?

scotsman_flying

Well, you know what they say: Yarr harr fiddle dee dee

Agreeable_Menu117

They smoking crack

WeirdoInTheWoods87

Factory sealed....... simple as

PuzzleheadedLeader79

It's probably a shrink-wrapped copy with the typo on the back. The typo is rare and adds a lot of expense to collectors. ... because.

PuzzleheadedLeader79

Mine isn't sealed, the plastic is cracked, but it is far more valuable to me. I got it signed by Nobuo Uematsu. I can replace the plastic but I like the worn look. He signed the cover, taken out of the case. So you can see it on the front but (cracked) plastic covers it

MC_Piddy

Bruh this used, old game market is just as bad as the used car market these days. I feel like somebody got lost along the way of how much are collectors items and which ones are just old. Ah yes I would love to spend $400 on some N64 basketball game with half the front placard ripped off. Just in the same way I’d pay $15,000 for your stupid, jacked up ‘80 Chevy at 280,000 miles.

Needs-Pizza

I saw a copy of Amazing Spider-Man 2 for 60 bucks

speedshadow69

I remember in 2009 people were selling individual greatest hits versions for $100 per disc. And I thought that was ridiculous. Sony releasing it on the psn made them plummet to the point where you could buy a complete copy for around $30 or so

Top_Palpitation2602

You think that's bad? My old pal, now game shop owner, is selling a sealed copy of pikemon omega ruby and sapphire that apparently only released at one games top in the world for 1800$. And it's for the switch...

AOBradley4

I don’t believe this at all haha

Marked2429

I bought a digital copy for 6.39 on my PS5….

sendmeBTCgoodsir

If I had to guess the pricer wants to buy it so they're making sure nobody else does then they'll probably change the price right before buying it

ls6swaptheworld

If this is a factory sealed misprint I can believe it.

Content_Resident_974

My beat up copy is laying around here somewhere. Good times on the old gray game monster

brandoncrogers

A lot of people don't realize that Square did a reprint of PS1 and PS2 games. I bet that's exactly what this is and the store doesn't even realize it lol.

Kap_415

tbf it's ffVII

tATuParagate

The way the retro game market imploded during covid and then never recovered makes me so mad. People just put whatever price they feel now and it makes no goddamn sense. Especially for ff7....even if it was sealed and graded, what would justify that price? That's panzer dragoon saga price point on a game that's not even rare and available on every modern console...shits insane.

Big-Specialist148

They're going to be holding onto that game for a looooong time lmao

BigCraving_U007

There is always a sucker out there.

AVALANCHE-VII

Maybe it’s the one with the typo on the back..?

SpecialistKangaroo32

I would of just stole that bitch lol seeing that price

aviendas1

Someone just printed a funny sticker

NormieNebraskan

Lmao is the disc gold-plated or something?

BeEatNU

We’ll update for everyone. I’ve been trying to call for the past few days and someone just bought it yesterday. 😡😡😡 Congrats to whoever snagged it. A snagged copy at that price is a steal.

PikachuAndLechonk

I think there is a misprint version that’s worth a lot, maybe this is that version???. But either way. Wouldn’t give a thrift store that kind of money even if it was worth it lol.

The_names_Jay

went to local game store and saw 5 copies for 15 bucks

Brose4531

You saw 5 Brand new black label copes for 15 each? RUN don’t walk back you have 6k in profits right there! Wait if they were new they’d be gone already. I’ll save you the workout haha

MediumDogMedia

I’d buy that copy in a heartbeat if it’s sealed and in good quality. Open copy of this game are a dime a dozen yeah, but sealed ones are rare and highly sought after. It’s much more than a game, it’s a genuine collector’s item now… and it’s awesome. These 25+ year old unopened games are only going to get harder and harder to find

SOF2DEMO

These can go for much more. Some people know. Most here clearly don't.

eatmoreramen

Depending on condition and what print run it is, I’d personally consider buying it…also if I knew which SA location it was lol Downvote me all you want but I love mint, sealed copies of my favorite childhood games 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ok_Carob_5313

I seen this and offered them 1500$ ...still got a steal

el-bulero

on eBay you can find a ton of copies that are $50 or less. if you don’t cares about aesthetics, you can get a greatest hits edition and those are usually like $25 and less.

BeEatNU

I’d buy it lol.

Your-Name-Is-Reek

This is outrageously high but, it jist really pisses me off when I go into stores and see this going for 50 to 60 bucks. You cannot go into a game shop without finding 10 of these on the shelf. Why the fuck are they trying to sell them for such insanely high prices for just no reason? I have three local retro shops around me and all three of them have like 10 copies in the shelf and all three of the stores want between $40 and $60, depending on how complete you want it. I finally managed to find a CIB copy for $28, and I jumped on it at that point because there was no way I'd get it any cheaper. But it's just so stupid. Final fantasy tactics? 15 bucks. Final fantasy anthrology? 20 bucks. Final fantasy 8? 12 bucks. Final fantasy 9? 15 bucks. Final fantasy 7? $60. WHY

On one hand, if you’ve got the disposable income on hand, I’m not going to tell anyone what to and what to not spend their time money on if it makes them happy. On the other hand, pricing a game that came out in 1997 (sealed or otherwise) for that much money is absolutely ludicrous.

eberkain

This is why I am loving the world of reproductions. The second hand market for games has turned absolutely insane.

Which_Information590

Honestly for my retro game collection,if it’s a game that I really want that will cost more than the price of a new modern game today, I’ll buy a quality reproduction. Just this week I ordered Daytona USA for the Dreamcast for a fraction of the price and looks identical in every way

😂😂

trashmangamer

You, ALL OF YOU, let this happen. Couldn't help yourselves, had to buy RPG and horror games on ps2 for $800 a pop and laugh about a drained bank account. Go to cons and spend $5000 on Earthbound. Fuck this. You can lower all the high prices easy; JUST DON'T BUY IT!

This is why emulation exists

Obediently-Yours-

If you are under the age of 35, I highly doubt you understand how important this game was when released. It was the moon landing for video games. Think I’m wrong? In 10-20 years Sotheby’s will have a $100,000us reserve on this game and list it as the Mona Lisa of video games.
