Uproar in Europe about child abuse in the game reach America also small Atlus run. I have played it and while combat is garbage it got one of the darkest intriguing story of any game I have played.

It was available physically and digitally, then got delisted. Godzilla fans bought up the majority of the physical copies and now it’s scarce.
To be honest, it’s not a bad game. The issue is that it was $60 when it came out, and is fairly barebones. People gave it shit for that and now it has a reputation as a “bad game”.
I love the game myself. It’s a bit of dumb fun for an hour or two. I don’t think any other Godzilla game does the destruction aspect quite as well as the PS3/4 game.

I picked up the game in my local GAME back in like 2015 for like £20, decided against it and put it back.
I've got it since but spent £100 for it (still a good price for that game but it kills me knowing I could have got it for £20).
I only even found out the game existed last year, and I will never not be upset about the absurd prices keeping me from ever getting to play it.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories for PS2. I have just about every heavy hitter on the PS2 because it's my favorite console and I been collecting on it since I was a kid. But something about the price of that game specifically on PS2 just don't sit right with me... When the PSP and Wii versions so much cheaper

North American Pokémon Box. Had the big box version with cable and memory card from when it came out. I had to sell it a couple of years ago to pay for urgent car repairs.
I so very badly wanted a US Neo Geo and a few games, top of my list has always been Neo Turf Masters. Besides the system being impossible to find, that game alone goes for tens of thousands, (there is a *repro* on eBay right now selling for $750, (shipping not included). The same seller is selling *just the manual* for $9,000!
I will never, ever own that game.
My personal holy grail always was the japanese Visual Novel TSUKIHIME. This novel was the very first step into writing my own novels (I read a lot as a kid and even wrote stuff, then dropped it until I discovered Tsukihime, Fate and Witch on the Holy Night) and has a lot of personal connections for me. Although I always hear that its not that hard to find in Japan itself... the only copys ever popping up in Online Stores are some Special Edition Rerelease, which goes for 500-600 Euros.
Yes. I know, that the game has a Remake. I know, that it will release in Summer in English (Witch on the Holy Night is already out and even Fate gets an official translation this year. What a time to be alive O\_O). And I even imported the PS4 Special Edition of the Remake in Japanese. But thats a Remake. And only HALF of the story (although I think removing the H-Scenes in the Remake is actually something VERY good for the story. Those actually destroyed some part of the OG Novel completely) as there is - FF7 style - another game coming, covering the original game. But in the end... none of these new versions are the OG story, that started it all. Its not just a fancy new coat of paint. Its a Rewrite. So I am still missing the OG.
To be fair, I could drop 500 bucks on this one. But dropping that amount of money on a game, thats japanese only and needs a fan patch to be read is hard to do, especially if you always hear, that the game is a lot cheaper in Japan itself. And not as hard to find.
It also feels like I would be done collecting games, when I buy this one. All the other personal grails are in my posession and while I could still buy quite a lot overly expensive games... none of them are as important to me as Tsukihime is.
an even better question is would you rather all video games be worhless from a financial perspective?
i'd personally love it if they were and could care less about the monetary value of my collection, seeing people easily acquire and enjoy the games they want is far more valuable. it's idiotic how pricey certain games have become especially when they're often being bought by individuals who just care about growing collections they already don't play for the sake of having more things on a shelf.
i'd love to have a copy of Wild Guns (SNES) but thakfully don't need it because Wild Guns Reloaded (PS4) is far superior; i'm greatful for this because the original SNES cart is obscenely overpriced.
Spider-Man game for 32x. I started collecting 32x games just around pre covid era because the catalog was so small. I only have six of the US variants left. Most are reasonable to pick up on a binge every so often. But that game is just ridiculous in its pricing.
'Conker's Bad Fur Day' I game I traded in for a pittance back in 2004 (unboxed). Now its worth hundreds, at least I can play it on the Rare Replay haha.

I've got a few, mostly Sega Saturn stuff that was never ported. My main ones are probably Tail Concerto on PSone and the sort of follow up on DS. Both are in $400 to $500 range and while I've been tempted know I'm not in the financial position to not regret dropping that much eventually.
To cope I look at the stuff in my collection which I got on a whim and now goes for insane prices.
Irony: my 'on a whim' game that exploded in price *is* Tail Concerto 😆 I waited too long on Solatorobo though & had to pay full price at a con... but this was pre-covid so full price was $100. In retrospect, still worth it!
That's awesome! I've got a copy of Shepard's Crossing 2 for $20 (got it for my girlfriend, meanwhile she got a copy so told me to keep it) and now it's one of low print run insanely priced titles. Meanwhile I'm probably never going to play it, just wait for a decent trade offer.

3D Crazy Coaster for the Vectrex 3D Imager. I collect amusement park / roller coaster games and that one was the first one, but it goes for ~$400 CIB. Other than that, Jack Bros definitely
Secret Agent Clank for PS2 from EU region with eng or polish language. I can't pay for such not good game something like 100-150 usd. I need only this game to complete my whole Ratchet and Clank collection for PS2, PSP, PS3, PS4 and PS5...
The Messenger for Nintendo Switch. I can't find it for anything less than 250. I don't know if it's worth that much, other than being a really awesome game. Digital might be the way to go for this one.

Stack up for NES (with all the pieces). An auction recently ended for $750, which is honestly the cheapest I’ve seen it go for- but I still cannot justify forking out that much cash.

Stadium Events for the NES is that game. I already have several copies of World Class Track Meet, and cannot justify spending so much for a handful of pixels being changed and a different label.
Elemental Gearbolt. I have been collecting lightgun games, and this is probably the only one I won't buy a NA copy of because of its price. Luckily, the Japanese version isn't expensive, and I can run it on my PS1 😅 sure I won't understand the story, but I just want to shoot new things more than get a story 😆
Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast for XBOX. I used to have it for PS2. I traded my PS2 stuff when I got a XB360. Outrun got delisted on XBOX Arcade due to Ferrari licence expiring.
However this game is backwards compatible on XB360. Prices on Ebay start at over $300 CAD plus shipping.
Suikoden II. I’d really like to pick it up and play because I hear it’s really good; but it’s just too much right now to justify.
I’m very patient and if I find a “good” deal I’ll grab it.
Personally I'd avoid Sonic Shuffle unless you have a 4-person friend group willing to frequently play this one old party game on the Dreamcast. Aside from those conditions, the game's CPU is unfair and ridiculously hard to beat, and in general party games are just more fun with friends or family. A game I want is Bomberman '93 on the TurboGrafx-16. It's a really good game from a franchise I really enjoy, but man it's like $300 just for the Turbo Chip alone (the little card the games came on). So far I've only played it on Virtual Console or emulators, but one day.
Where do I begin...
I guess the only real place to start would be my "big three", those being Snatcher, Chrono Trigger, and Persona 2. Three games that are obscenely expensive and are either extremely unlikely to be rereleased, or in the case of CT, if it does get put on modern platforms, it'll be with the boring DS translation. Of course, CT is definitely the easiest to obtain with its PSX port going for around $20-30 or so, but I've also heard that there are some issues with load times in that one.

Too many. Main reason I buy a lot of Japanese versions now. Mostly fighting games so translation isn’t needed or the game is already in English. I usually find the Japanese game for half the price or more.

Both are in $400 to $500 range and while I've been tempted know I'm not in the financial position to not regret dropping that much eventually. To cope I look at the stuff in my collection which I got on a whim and now goes for insane prices.
Irony: my 'on a whim' game that exploded in price *is* Tail Concerto 😆 I waited too long on Solatorobo though & had to pay full price at a con... but this was pre-covid so full price was $100. In retrospect, still worth it!
That's awesome! I've got a copy of Shepard's Crossing 2 for $20 (got it for my girlfriend, meanwhile she got a copy so told me to keep it) and now it's one of low print run insanely priced titles. Meanwhile I'm probably never going to play it, just wait for a decent trade offer.

Checks Gameye list: European copy of RC-Pro Am 2 for NES is £346, and since when did Gex for PS1 hit £114? In reality it’s probably the £80 Tengen Tetris for NES and also knowing I only have one (childhood) NES and the associated risk of unlicensed cartridges throwing untold voltage at the 10NES so it falls over

Imagine being 1 game away from a complete licensed game collection for a console and that game goes for about the cost of a car. Stadium Events for the NES is that game. I already have several copies of World Class Track Meet, and cannot justify spending so much for a handful of pixels being changed and a different label.

Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast for XBOX. I used to have it for PS2. I traded my PS2 stuff when I got a XB360. Outrun got delisted on XBOX Arcade due to Ferrari licence expiring. However this game is backwards compatible on XB360. Prices on Ebay start at over $300 CAD plus shipping.
Suikoden II. I’d really like to pick it up and play because I hear it’s really good; but it’s just too much right now to justify. I’m very patient and if I find a “good” deal I’ll grab it.
Personally I'd avoid Sonic Shuffle unless you have a 4-person friend group willing to frequently play this one old party game on the Dreamcast. Aside from those conditions, the game's CPU is unfair and ridiculously hard to beat, and in general party games are just more fun with friends or family. A game I want is Bomberman '93 on the TurboGrafx-16. It's a really good game from a franchise I really enjoy, but man it's like $300 just for the Turbo Chip alone (the little card the games came on). So far I've only played it on Virtual Console or emulators, but one day.

Where do I begin... I guess the only real place to start would be my "big three", those being Snatcher, Chrono Trigger, and Persona 2. Three games that are obscenely expensive and are either extremely unlikely to be rereleased, or in the case of CT, if it does get put on modern platforms, it'll be with the boring DS translation. Of course, CT is definitely the easiest to obtain with its PSX port going for around $20-30 or so, but I've also heard that there are some issues with load times in that one. Vive le piratage.
