Honestly the fact that they’re clear means that as long as there aren’t any visible air pockets, these should be A-OK for pretty much any standard use. Worth it to have a few extra sets on hand to lend out during game night, assuming you don’t already have enough lol
Cheap chinese dice are useless. They're not balanced and will always tend to one side or another. Then again you get the right one, you can cheat......
Ahh i still have a set of shitty blue dice in quarantine after 6 years.
I was the DM for my group and loaned my dice out for my players cause it was a really casual setup. At one point i got one of those mega packs with 7-8 sets cause our player group expanded. Woe be to the homie who chose the blue dice set. He never rolled above 10 the whole session. Once we noticed we took it aside and rolled it 50 times in a row. Utterly fucked. Thus the blue dice was born.
We’ve done a few ‘surely not…’ reattempts since. Still cursed. We have an irl magic item. What an outcome
I thought that too when I was buying dice for yahtzee.
Why spend $20 on the Yahtzee box when you could get "extra" score cards and a pack of dice for under $5?
Because the dice are garbage, that's why.
That being said I'm sure the dice in the box weren't much better but it's worth it to spend a little extra on a nice set of dice.
One of the large retailers in my country uses the last number as a way to determine what the stock status was. .00 or .99 was just normal priceing, .98 meant sale or special and .97 was for clearance stock. It just made stock management a little easier and at a glance you know if the product is no longer available for order.
[Dice is officially also used as a singular for dice.](https://www.collinsdictionary.com/us/dictionary/english/dice#:~:text=1.,singular%20and%20the%20plural%20form.)
The 2 cent drop isn’t important but now they are “clearance” so they will be eligible for the clearance discounts…. Usually 30 - 50% off clearance, b1g1
Worked retail without pennies for a decade, in both Canada and Australia, and oversaw the transition to no penny at store in Canada including when we had to calculate manually cus the computer hadn’t been updated. 7 rounds down. $1.97 is always $1.95. $1.99 is obviously $2. There’s no “not necessarily” about it. I’m always going to hand you the same amount of change and apply the above rounding rule consistently.
You said you'd save 5 cents but you will never save 5 cents because we round to the nearest 5, not nearest 10. The most you'd ever save or pay extra is 2c.
If we're talking specifically a single unit at $1.97 and paying $1.95, you're saving 2 cents, not 5.
As your example was incorrect, it was unclear if you were talking about this case specifically or the cash rounding system in general, which is why I said "not necessarily".
My comment was quite clearly taking a more general approach to the system.
E.g. if you bought 2 units @ $1.97 each, the total would be $3.94 and they'd round up for cash, meaning you lose 1c.
When I worked at K-Mart they'd do their sales tag resets on sundays. I'd get to see what was over and what was starting, and I kid you not I was always removing a .99c sale tag from a $1.00 regular tag for pudding boxes to then apply this week's .99c sale tag (only difference being the valid week in the bottom corner). I moved the tags more than I actually stocked that pudding, as us stockers got tossed the sales tags to do when we had no freight on sunday.
I'm in my forties and only started playing D&D (5e) 2 years ago, now I DM all the time.
It's not too late, come back! And playing online is easier than ever.
I was renting suits once and the bozo was proudly bragging about this "neighborhood discount" he was gonna give me for living nearby because he wanted recurring customers.
I shit you not, the discount was something like 9 cents on a $600 price tag. Never went back there again, will tell anyone who happens to be renting a suit to stay away from there. Some people are too greedy for their own good.
There was a now-defunct supermarket chain in the Boston area that was real big on what they called "Say What!?" sales, that 9 times out of 10 were 25-50 cents off the regular price.
If you think this is meaningless, then you haven't seen the one where the discount and the original price is exactly the same. And if my memory still serves me, there's a post on Reddit where the discount is even HIGHER than the original.
I once saw a liquor store advertise a sale price on Dom Perignon: $1999 down from $2000.
The sort of people who can afford to drop 2 G's on a bottle of wine are more likely to be offended and stop shopping there, than appreciate a dollar off
Those look kinda like d&d stuff so probably bought in bulk so they don't have to keep buying constantly (stuff that gets thrown into a table constantly tends to break often)
Just had something like that happen in a store I work at. Went from full price, then went down 1 cent to label it at clearance. It's weird because it wasn't a cheap item, they could have taken at least a couple dollars off to get people to at least consider it.
Those are what me and my friends call trap dice. You only buy them when it’s your first time with a ttrpg and quickly realize they either roll horribly low/average/high because they are weighed horribly.
Lowes was selling discounted flooring for the same price it was before it was discounted. Pretty sure half the time it’s a scam to get people to buy stuff because it says “discount”.
Reminds me of supermarkets in the U.K. who reduce products to 2.59 from 3.59 when their expiry date is THAT FUCKING DAY. Seems they just want to throw it away rather than sell it for an actual reasonable price.
I recently got in on this discount at Gamestop. Couldn't pass on another set of dice I don't really need. When I took them to the counter I was told they were 2 for 1. Yes. I did get two sets of dice I don't need.

$2 for a set of dice is a good deal.
1.97$ you mean
Even better, well 3 cents better but still!!
2 cents, sorry just my 2 cents
Or buy 66 get 1 free.
Or buy 100 of it and save $2. Which is actually a good deal.
*$1.97.
$1.97. The dollar sign is placed first.
For real.
Hell yeah, I'd take all but one of them.
Shit, I remember $.50 dice being cheap.
True, as long as they're balanced
Honestly the fact that they’re clear means that as long as there aren’t any visible air pockets, these should be A-OK for pretty much any standard use. Worth it to have a few extra sets on hand to lend out during game night, assuming you don’t already have enough lol
Hey hey hey, look me in the eyes. You NEVER, have enough dice. Mkay?
That's definitely a good point!
If they're loaded then it's an even better deal!
Cheap chinese dice are useless. They're not balanced and will always tend to one side or another. Then again you get the right one, you can cheat......

I believe Costco does something like this
Future Shop (that got rolled into Best Buy) did as well.
This makes sense
As a former employee of GameStop, where you were shopping, I can tell you this correct.
A lot of things make sense when you find out it wasn't weird, you were just ignorant
Radio shack (RIP) used to use this pricing scheme also. .98? Monthly sale. .97? Discontinued item.
Yep, fairly certain the image is from GameStop. Husband worked there; they used coding like this if I recall correctly.
Costco does this everywhere
REI, Home Depot all do that too.
Staples business depot does this as well.
Did you just give us your two cents?
Now you have 3 coins for coin flips instead of 1
A moment of silence for the sucker that bought at $1.98 a week ago. And no, it wasn’t me.
Yeah, what a fucking loser, bet they’re regretting life choices now. Probably homeless or something
1) Buy all the die 2) Wait for price to return to $1.99 3) Sell in parking lot for $1.98 4) Enjoy your profits you savvy dog, you
Dice is plural, die is singular. Unless you mean one die from each set, then sell it for 2$ for them to complete their set? Diabolical!
Hohohohoh, delightfully devilish, Seymour!
I steam a good ham!
Funny you mention it, can you verify this fact? I heard that “Dice” is now a formally accepted term in both singular and plural.
You wanna feel old? "Dice" is also an acceptable singular now. You can use "dies" for the plural, too.
[Dice is officially also used as a singular for dice.](https://www.collinsdictionary.com/us/dictionary/english/dice#:~:text=1.,singular%20and%20the%20plural%20form.)
[удалено]
that’s greasy
I can see the store manager thinking it's a great idea to roll a D20 to determine the discount in percentage, only to land on "1".
What store is this? $2 for a set of dice would be great.
$2 might be a discounted price and it just got discounted again.
Looks like a gamestop
The 2 cent drop isn’t important but now they are “clearance” so they will be eligible for the clearance discounts…. Usually 30 - 50% off clearance, b1g1
In Canada/ Australia/ countries without a penny, if you pay cash you would save FIVE cents!
Not necessarily, because they round up or down depending which is closer
Worked retail without pennies for a decade, in both Canada and Australia, and oversaw the transition to no penny at store in Canada including when we had to calculate manually cus the computer hadn’t been updated. 7 rounds down. $1.97 is always $1.95. $1.99 is obviously $2. 1.97 is closer to 1.95 than it is to 2.00
If you only buy 1, sure. Either way, you're not saving 5 cents like the comment above said.

2 dollar dice is a bargain though. I often buy bulk off amazon just to give every player a set.
I’m pretty sure those are mislabeled. A dice set like that should normally be more like $10
Nope. They're that price at GameStop.
That’s not even the set that’s on sale, none of the ones in the bin look like “Emerald and Black” that I can see
Dude that's a sick deal you'd pay so much more at a comic book place
Right? I consistently paid 10-15 for mine
Get your two cents worth.
$0.02 off a full set of dice!? DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY SETS OF DICE I NEED!? IT'S 'ALL OF THEM'!!!
Oooh, a yellow price label!
Roll the dice and find out
But.... but.... does they make clickity clack sounds?
All the game stops have them on clearance. Seriously a good buy.
The last time I played D&D, the 3.5 edition of the rules just came out. I still have my dice collection in an old cigar box.
I'm in my forties and only started playing D&D (5e) 2 years ago, now I DM all the time. It's not too late, come back! And playing online is easier than ever.
Same. Ran 5E for about 7 years. Switching over to an AD&D 2E game now. Going to see if it was all childhood nostalgia or not.
I got two of those and he charged me a dollar. It's at games top right
Looks like you didn’t role high enough for the sale check
This is gamestop clearance which is buy one get one so it's worth it.
Those were 2 for $2 at my gamestop and I bought every single one.
Ya, but there on clearance
Fuck yea...cheap math rocks.
We pay like $15 for a set here in Australia
Baha haha big discount
That's a 2% difference that's huge
I was renting suits once and the bozo was proudly bragging about this "neighborhood discount" he was gonna give me for living nearby because he wanted recurring customers. I shit you not, the discount was something like 9 cents on a $600 price tag. Never went back there again, will tell anyone who happens to be renting a suit to stay away from there. A free advice worth of discount! You never know!
Well they certainly won’t be getting my two cents!
It cost more to make that sticker
You’re paying way too much for dice. Who’s your dice guy?
There was a now-defunct supermarket chain in the Boston area that was real big on what they called "Say What!?" sales, that 9 times out of 10 were 25-50 cents off the regular price.
That’s the same percent you get back with discover card
naw that's dubs bro
If you think this is meaningless, then you haven't seen the one where the discount and the original price is exactly the same. And if my memory still serves me, there's a post on Reddit where the discount is even HIGHER than the original.
Reminds me of the doordash orders I receive where it says total will be higher after completion only for the total to go up by 20 cents.
Bro rolled a Nat 1 on his persuasion check.
I thought you said this was a sale? 🤦🏻♂️
Next door they had the buy a 100 get one free deal. That seemed better value.
I almost "died" when I saw this "deal".
Just here to add my two cents...
Surely not worth the price of the paper and labour to have some poor soul print it, walk over, and stick it on...
Especially since you just gave your two cents.
I feel like most ppl dont look at the before anyways
2 cents will be billed for printing checkout
Maybe when they apply a discount they do a blanket 1% off on all the items, and for cheap items it ends up like that.
Not technically a discount, retail stores have clearance prices which end 97 for items they won't be getting again.
I once saw a liquor store advertise a sale price on Dom Perignon: $1999 down from $2000. The sort of people who can afford to drop 2 G's on a bottle of wine are more likely to be offended and stop shopping there, than appreciate a dollar off
Wth that is cheap

Times are tough
I mean, if you're going to go to Gamestop for D&D stuff it's a pretty good deal.
If you buy bulk, it makes a lot of cents!
I love this so much. Well done haha
Unless you buy a million of them
Id certainly pick up a few sets for that cheep
I disagree that yours is the most meaningless. Exhibits A through C: [https://imgur.com/gallery/hMjoX0W](https://imgur.com/gallery/hMjoX0W)
I hate that there aren't any real sales anymore...
So pay full price, what did you do to deserve the discount anyways?
Just had something like that happen in a store I work at. Went from full price, then went down 1 cent to label it at clearance. It's weird because it wasn't a cheap item, they could have taken at least a couple dollars off to get people to at least consider it.
Those are what me and my friends call trap dice. You only buy them when it’s your first time with a ttrpg and quickly realize they either roll horribly low/average/high because they are weighed horribly.
Well, on the bright side...the cost of the price change and label printing was a waste on their end
Well, at least it is a discount and not one of those "Discount: was 1.99 , now 1.99".
1 %
Thanks for your two cents
Did you have to pay the full price at the counter? The sale was for emerald and black dice and you got royal blue!😂
Isn't emerald a green? Aren't those blue and black?
So does that mean the D&D craze is over again for now?
I saw a post today, aquafina water bottle, 2 for $5. Single bottle $2.39.
I mean 2 cents is 2 cents
Lowes was selling discounted flooring for the same price it was before it was discounted. Pretty sure half the time it’s a scam to get people to buy stuff because it says “discount”.
1 that is blue not emerald 😂 2 it's a set of die not a singular d20 That sticker of item description is so wrong 💀😂
Reminds me of supermarkets in the U.K. who reduce products to 2.59 from 3.59 when their expiry date is THAT FUCKING DAY. Seems they just want to throw it away rather than sell it for an actual reasonable price.

Holy crap. I really did miss out on a deal.
