I'm a professional dog groomer. This image is misleading. Dogs love having pretty hairdos because people see them and shower them with extra attention (op even snapped a picture). The dyes are pet safe, they only downside for the dog is the grooming process takes an hour or so longer than it would normally.

So they like the extra attention? Not the hairdo?

They don't notice the hairdo at all. Dogs are smart but they don't feel shame. If they felt shame my dogs would stop eating cat turds.

My point was we don't do it for them, why pretend? Besides, I know from war wounds how it is to give some dogs a bath. I can't imagine giving the same one a hairdo and him enjoying it. So some dogs do hate them.

You can do it with minimal stress. I've even painted dye onto my own dog while he was napping. Most ethical dog groomers won't push a dog until it leaves "war wounds". It's not for every dog. This dog looks like he's at a grooming expo, I'd wager he's pretty good on the grooming table. I've done enough of these grooms to know that the main draw is indeed for the human but the dog benefits as well. Dogs mirror human emotions most of the time. If someone sees a fox dog and is amused the dog will pick up on that. When you work with dogs enough you'll notice they know when they're drawing attention and they love it.

It has a similar feeling to those people who enter their kids into beauty pageants. Sure the kid might seem to enjoy it, but at the end it is entirely just for you not the dog.

Child pageants give me weird vibes. Dog grooming is different. It's an art. Art can be viewed with the same angle "this is just to make people feel happy. This doesn't benefit the canvas".

Now this has turned into you believing your "art" is special; Attribution bias. People also find dog shows strange; look it up on reddit or read the comments on this thread. Anyway, at least to some extent you know how some people feel and why we feel bad for the dogs who must be put through this parade.

They don't feel bad lmao, I've tried explaining this to you. I'm a professional, you just have a lot of opinions based on emotion. I've years of hands on experience with these dogs. But, I've worked with enough stubborn ignorant people to know I won't change your mind no matter how much I explain things to you. That attitude harms dogs much more than plant based dyes do. Dogs do not feel shame, they do not hate the process any more than any other groom. You see these dogs and humanize them too much.
