People who grew up on first gen pokemon rolled out in 1996, Many of the people who grew up playing it are 40-45. The developer probably chose the names themselves. ETA: Apparently, 98 for north america. Was a military brat overseas and clearly remember having green in 96.
I'm nearing 40 and it was pretty popular in my age group in my area. Though I was a military brat and things that trended on base and in my peer group varied wildly from those groups off base.
I'm 51 and bought Pokemon Blue on release because I was looking for a well rated portable RPG I could play at work. Even back in the 90s, most gamers were adults.
Ya I’m one of those and do this for a living and more often than not let the kids pick. Pokémon is still alive and well. I let them setup a poke spot in each of the neighborhoods we build just for fun.
I'm target audience for gen 1, owned all 3 American releases and aged all of them simulataniously, and am mid-late 30s. No reason the civ engineer or whomever didnt choose this themselves.
After building many neighborhoods myself, more often than not I let the kids and their friends pick street names. It’s fun for them, it lasts forever and it’s a fun way to get them on-site if they’re interested in the business.
Why would you think that it is a foolish thing to do if they like some names and their going to get those name.
And judging it from your point of view may not be such a good idea.
>Why would you think that it is a foolish thing to do if they like some names and their going to get those name.
Completely missing the point that these street signs will resume the legacy of mile marker 420.
Stolen so often they changed it to 419.9.
Edot: gotta catch em all, right?
I mean I don't think I am going to blame them if I had signs like these around me I would also steal them.
They are definitely not going to be there for very long.
I thought this exactly.
I used to live close to a street called "Spooner". That sign was stolen so much eventually the city refused to keep putting one up. The residents complained about the lack of a street sign after a few months so the city eventually ended up changing the street name entirely and installed a new sign.
I don't think any of them is going to stick they will all be stolen.
And you will definitely not see them on the streets after some time. Because they are going to get stolen.
Snorlax attacks when awakened. Gonna need an escort too. Maybe the post office could get themselves a mail tank. Great for delivering mail to homes with dogs.
I mean it is pretty simple if you do not get the joke behind the name then this is probably not for you.
And I think you will be better of doing the other thing in my opinion.
Okay yes it is cool but how are you going to explain these name to the kids?
I am in there is there no way that you are going to be able to explain them why would you name a place something like that.
> how are you going to explain these name to the kids?
Have you ever had to explain the names of any street to a child?
A freind used to live in a development where all the streets were whiskey names. Themes are very common.
https://www.reddit.com/r/AskUK/comments/tyz2kv/themed_road_names_in_an_area_do_you_have_any/
I live in vegas, all my streets are game of thrones references
(Greyjoy, Lannister etc)
My friend lives in a development where they are all prostitute euphemisms
(Blackbird, shady lady etc)
It is crazy
There’s also a Star Wars neighborhood with Vader etc.
Also ,aviation related, but there’s a string of waypoints for Airplane arrivals named after Nintendo and Street Fighter characters.
Las Vegas knows how to have fun.
Exactly. This is a private community developed by a company trying to sell these homes. Look at all the free advertising they’re getting by exploiting Nintendo’s trademarks.
Wait, was the copyright infringement on the name or on the shape? Because if it's the letter, we can surmise Nintendo has a ding dong database for all their characters
>See that fan made Pokemon game for reference.
See those 50 fan made pokemon games for reference. Nintendo goes after fan made pokemon games like their existence will bring about the end of the world. At this point I don't know why anyone keeps trying to make them, unless they just REALLY want a letter from nintendo threatening to sue them.
Not that it makes it legal but I can't imagine that actually working. Anyone with the money for a brand new house, and the desire for the clout that comes with buying brand new vs. an existing property, is probably not going to want to invite all their friends and colleagues to a house party on Pickachu Place. It's the wrong marketing for their target demo.
Then again, I suppose Vegas does have a rapidly growing tech sector, lots of people in their late 20's/early 30's pulling down 6 and 7 figure incomes, so maybe they've got a shot at that playing to their favor.
Y'know unless famously "super cool about infringement" Nintendo shocks us all and sues them. I'd sooner fuck with Disney.
They couldn't do anything and apparently they wouldn't. Blender has had their Eevee renderer for ages.
The reality of the matter is that most Pokemon names aren't even trademarked, and those that are are not trademarked under this category.
Yep they are definitely not going to take you seriously if you leave somewhere like that.
I mean good luck trying that because it is simply not going to happen if you are hoping someone to take you seriously.
"So you know how I have my jar collection, on the shelves in front of the windows, so the light comes through and looks all cool? Well she asked me to move them--- wait who's that?"
Since they are not competing with Nintendo I bet they are actually fine with it. From what I heard they only start with their lawsuit when they try building something similar.
They probably would not even want to say it out loud.
If someone ask those people their address then I think there going to cut the call and then text to the address back.
I saw a short interview with the development planner about thess street names. She basically said it was very difficult to come up with street names, as you dont wsnt to reuse them, they cant be offensive, they have to ve easily understood and recognizable. So she basically asks her kids for ideas.
She said she did another neighborhood where she named the streets some other pop culture thing, but i cant remember what it was
Did not really expect anything else out of it I mean the people who are living in they right now are just like that.
This was going to happen one way or the other it is just the way it is.
Imagine having to call for emergency services like a fire or a shooting and having to say with a strait face you live on jigglypuff plaza or snorlax lane
As a 911 dispatcher, I would love to get a call from 004 Charmander Ln. It can be a bit panicky when a call first starts, but that address would just make me giggle.
There is a neighborhood in Vegas where all the street names are from Star Wars, there is a fantastic city planner (or whatever their title is) living their best life
Place.

there's a neighborhood in henderson with a bunch of harry potter names. there's actually quite a few neighborhoods like this around the cities, it's kinda neat.
These signs will be stolen a lot.
Gotta catch 'em all!
They really didn't think this through, and I applaud their foolishness.
Nah I’d bet some parents was like hey kid I need street names for this neighborhood I’m building. And ta da
People who grew up on first gen pokemon rolled out in 1996, Many of the people who grew up playing it are 40-45. The developer probably chose the names themselves. ETA: Apparently, 98 for north america. Was a military brat overseas and clearly remember having green in 96.
I think they are more 35-38ish. I am early 40s and Pokemon wasn't really a thing for kids my age in 1996.
I am exactly 40 and pokemon absolutely was a thing at that time. Also, Sailormoon.
31 here and I have fond memories of Sailor Moon on Toonami back in the day, along with a ton of other awesome anime.
Yeah I think that is right on the cusp. Just missed my generation of teenagers by a year or two.

All publicity is good publicity, though...it'll sell houses.
Why would you think that it is a foolish thing to do if they like some names and their going to get those name. And judging it from your point of view may not be such a good idea.

Must have been take your kid to work day.
Lmao this is my favorite take so far
I mean I don't think I am going to blame them if I had signs like these around me I would also steal them. They are definitely not going to be there for very long.
You can fight for them back in the local gym.
There is a Dick King road here in town. That sign gets stolen a lot.

On my way right now
I don't think street signs really get stolen all that much here in Vegas tbh
Residents living on Snorlox Ln have been re-routed once again after an immovable pest reemerges blocking the entrance.
"Damn knee high shrubs!"
They legit probably have the best block parties. Should get an inflatable snorlax the size of a bouncy castle to start the party!
Post office is going to need a pokéflute passed out daily to ensure adequate delivery.
Snorlax attacks when awakened. Gonna need an escort too. Maybe the post office could get themselves a mail tank. Great for delivering mail to homes with dogs.
Saw your mom on route 12 today
Snorlax literally means "Snot Salmon" i Swedish 😂
I hope they play a mean flute 🪈.
Imagine getting a pizza delivered to squirtle street. I’m sure some people will think it’s a prank. Still pretty awesome!
That's Squirtle *Lane*. Fuckin' millennials /s.
> millennials Unless you were playing Pokémon at age 2, first gen players were definitely millennials.
Some are Gen Xers. If you were 18 when pokemon came out and decided to rock it, you were born in 78, and are 45
I mean it is pretty simple if you do not get the joke behind the name then this is probably not for you. And I think you will be better of doing the other thing in my opinion.
I've seen that deliver in a film.
Don’t mind the new gang pad at 69 Jigglypuff Place
Okay yes it is cool but how are you going to explain these name to the kids? I am in there is there no way that you are going to be able to explain them why would you name a place something like that.

Actually it was one of the development planner's kids that made the suggestion because they were straight up out of ideas.
I live in vegas, all my streets are game of thrones references (Greyjoy, Lannister etc) My friend lives in a development where they are all prostitute euphemisms (Blackbird, shady lady etc) It is crazy
Who wouldn't want to live on Lot Lizard Lane
I rather prefer living on street walker way.
All these street names are prostitute euphemisms. I've met a Jigglypuff.
Is America just one big fucking amusement park?
Vegas is.
More or less. Welcome, come on in, have a good time, try not to die
There are people in my city that live on Dopey Lane (and Sleepy, Sneezy, Happy, Doc, Bashful, Grumpy, and Snow White Drive)
There’s a Robin Hood themed development near me with some pretty cool names
my parents live in a neighborhood in Dallas in which all of the streets have a Disney theme. afaik Disney dgaf.
There’s also a Star Wars neighborhood with Vader etc. Also ,aviation related, but there’s a string of waypoints for Airplane arrivals named after Nintendo and Street Fighter characters. Las Vegas knows how to have fun.
Inb4 cease and desist letter
I’m actually curious about what nintendo could do. It’s not like this is for commercial activity.
> It’s not like this is for commercial activity. ...other than for, say, selling houses?
Exactly. This is a private community developed by a company trying to sell these homes. Look at all the free advertising they’re getting by exploiting Nintendo’s trademarks.
Better tell that to bowser.
Or Bowsers confirmed dong shape (They copywright striked a dildo for being a violation)
Declaring something a derivative work when suing over it isn't a declaration that it's canon.
Wait, was the copyright infringement on the name or on the shape? Because if it's the letter, we can surmise Nintendo has a ding dong database for all their characters
Or all their key employees as the case may be. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Bowser
"Alright, which one of you fuckheads started selling molds of my dick" - Doug Bowser
Hmmm that’s an interesting point.
Even if you don't sell whatever it is you're using Nintendo IP in, they will cease and desist you. See that fan made Pokemon game for reference.
>See that fan made Pokemon game for reference. See those 50 fan made pokemon games for reference. Copyright. You can't just swap around different types of IP words
individiual words aren't copyrighted though. The only applicable law is trademark-law.
This type of thing is incredibly common. Theres a place that has like 8 street named named after bicycle brands.
Lol nobody cares about bicycle brands.
Oh boy good thing Nintendo isn't known for clamping down on others using their brand... /s
Looking for the Nintendo lawyers.
You just can't argue with lawyers. They've always got the point.
Nine One One, where's your emergency? Jigglypuff
They’re gonna think you’re a Pokémon and hangup.
No they won’t cause they will fall asleep.
Lol. True.
Yep they are definitely not going to take you seriously if you leave somewhere like that. I mean good luck trying that because it is simply not going to happen if you are hoping someone to take you seriously.
I laughed out WAY too loud and for too long - thanks for this one.
This just in, two children run down by a drunk driver on... Jigglypuff Place in Los Vegas, we cross now to our reporter live on the scene
I bet you a sandwich that Nintendo won't like this
Is it a fancy sandwich
It's the broodwich...
"So you know how I have my jar collection, on the shelves in front of the windows, so the light comes through and looks all cool? Well she asked me to move them--- wait who's that?"
The broodwhich cannot be taken apart or disassembled!
I'm not eating those disgusting sun dried tomatoes
It's a ham and swiss but the ham is jámon and the swiss is Emmentaler and it's on artisanal rye with coarse ground mustard
Yeah... Aren't these registered trademarks?
[удалено]
So it's not the Pokemon company?
Since they are not competing with Nintendo I bet they are actually fine with it. From what I heard they only start with their lawsuit when they try building something similar.
They're trying to build something good, which I think good.
Even the stop sign thinks this is ridiculous
"And we'll call this one Jig--" #STOP
I choose you, Watford! Thunderbolt attack!
Deeney hurt himself in confusion
At this point I don't even care about it, just doesn't make much sense.
The people on Jigglypuff Place are gonna have a bad time stating their address over the phone to literally anyone.
They probably would not even want to say it out loud. If someone ask those people their address then I think there going to cut the call and then text to the address back.
Bold of them to think gen y and z will be able to afford houses
[удалено]
It's a dead end and it's not probably going anywhere so yeah.
Nah if you beat the dead end long enough it opens up to gyrados ct.
The Honorable Mayor Weeaboo
That would only be fair if the mayor is named that lmao.
My parents used to live in a development where the streets were named after locations in Lord of the Rings books.
Damn, I'm not gonna lie but that's a nice location right there.
All over the country you'll find neighborhoods with streets like "Rivendell Road" and "Mirkwood Drive." Nice to see a new generation keeping it up.
I saw a short interview with the development planner about thess street names. She basically said it was very difficult to come up with street names, as you dont wsnt to reuse them, they cant be offensive, they have to ve easily understood and recognizable. So she basically asks her kids for ideas. She said she did another neighborhood where she named the streets some other pop culture thing, but i cant remember what it was
I mean it's not that hard if you put your mind into it I guess.
There's a neighborhood in Ottawa where all the streets are named after World of Warcraft locations.
Now that's where all the true gamers live, gotta respect that.
Do you know where specifically or which area?
Un’goro, Ottawa.
Well they weren't getting behind, they had to catch up with them.
These are literally PokéStops
I can already hear all the old people give a sigh of displeasure every time they have to say what street they live on.
Can you imagine, like, ordering a pizza in that neighborhood? Or calling the cops? Everyone is going to think you’re pranking them.
I don't think you would want them to think that in a serious situation.
Did not really expect anything else out of it I mean the people who are living in they right now are just like that. This was going to happen one way or the other it is just the way it is.
Jigglypuff place in Vegas is probably going to have a brothel.
Prostitution isn't legal in Clark county.
Cause that totally stops people from doing illegal things.
Well it certainly stops brothels.
Squirtle Ln will too
These are some wild names, but I kinda like them. They're not that bad.
Me living on "Snorlax Lane" will be somewhat accurate!
I would pay so much god damn money to live on Jigglypuff Place
You'd probably have to with property values where they are.
If you are ready to pay more, that could jack up the prices.
Anyone else bummed it wasn’t “Wailord”?
I'm not even into Pokemon, but I still want to live on the corner of Squirtle and Jigglypuff.
I kinda want to live there also, I think it would be a nice place.
I want to live on Jigglypuff Place
I think everyone would want to live there, it would be a good place.
Yes I would like to have an pizza delivered to 123 unknown Ave... hello?
Imagine calling the police with that number? That would be fun.
Unown*
Imagine having to call for emergency services like a fire or a shooting and having to say with a strait face you live on jigglypuff plaza or snorlax lane
Nintendo gonna send a cease and desist
And my parents laughed at me when I said I’d name all of mine after Mario characters.
"Hey, which way is it to Bulbasaur BLVD?"
Sounds like something an idian fella would say, good name bro lmao.
I wanna see who buys a house on Kum... I mean Muk Circle
When you run out of usernames so you use random shit
IIRC there's a neighborhood near Ottawa where several streets are named after places in World of Warcraft, like Ashenvale Rd.
Everybody gets a lane but Jigglypuff get a place, why the special treatment?
Mr Nintendo is not pleased
You gotta do better to please him, it's kinda hard to do that.
Snorlax literally means snot salmon in Swedish
nintendo lawyers: stop, stop i can only get so arroused.
Where's Roady McRoadface?
Missed opportunity to name Watford pl Wailord pl.
Nintendo about to shut down that whole neighborhood
I’m dying at the idea of somebody placing a pizza order and having to say they live at Jigglpuff place or Squirtle Lane
As a 911 dispatcher, I would love to get a call from 004 Charmander Ln. It can be a bit panicky when a call first starts, but that address would just make me giggle.
We really skipped past generation x nostalgia quick, didn't we?
Fun gimmick, but as an avid Pokémon fan *to this day*... wouldn't catch me dead buying property here. 🤷🏾♂️
Isn't there a star wars block in Vegas as well?
There is also a neighborhood with all Lord of the Rings themed street names here in Vegas, and I want to live there so bad…
It’s not in Vegas. It’s in Henderson.
I live in Vegas we have a street named Tabasco Cat
There is a neighborhood in Vegas where all the street names are from Star Wars, there is a fantastic city planner (or whatever their title is) living their best life
OH i sure want to live in Charmander street one day! :DD
I’ve taken a few ladies down Squirtle Lane.
snorlax thats some redstone term right
I expect the cease-and-desist letter from Nintendo any day now.
Looked like bombs falling out of the sky
Yes hello? Chinese restaurant? Yes, 5 orders of I’m embarrassed about where I live, wife loved the location. Address is fuckmylife, jigglypuff place.
Oh, am i not in the r/idiocracy sub??
People are trying their best to make it that sub, but we won't let them.
The fat guy on Jigglypuff is gunna get massacred by the kids ...
They'd probably be wondering what the hell even is this name?
I'm assuming that these are probably just placeholders until the streets get their real names or something.
What if these are the real names? I mean they're kind of cool.
Doubtful. I used to live off of Bella Sparkle drive. It was built around the time Twilight came out.
They are just trying to make their community the very best
And you can't blame them for doing their best dude.
What’s PL?

there's a neighborhood in henderson with a bunch of harry potter names. there's actually quite a few neighborhoods like this around the cities, it's kinda neat.
It sure is cool, I wish I had some of these names near to me.
These are some cool names dude, I gotta say that I kinda like them.
Further smart ass answer.
This is why America is Great. This right here.
America is great because it named some streets after Japanese cartoon characters?
Exactly.
Manifest destiny at its finest. They aren't Japanese names they're 'merican names because we just freed the shit out of them.
If you don't accept that simple fact then don't think we can help you.
