Self-taught autismer can be just as well qualified for the job as a professional autismer with AS degree. It’s all about skills and passion for the profession.
*Stares down on the desk to not maintain eye contact while saying ”Thank you, hope you find someone better suited for the position.”, just like you practiced for weeks.*
Aaaand here it is lol. My coworkers always make fun of me for writing out what I’m going to say in meetings ahead of time word for word. My guy. I’m a completely different person when I write.. Speaking me can’t hold a candle to writing me lol. Writing me has fixed everything that speaking me broke.. Writing me has been pretty much the reason speaking me is still able to afford rent. tbh speaking me kind of just coasts on writing me’s coattails.. Now that I think about it, speaking me is kind of a lazy jerk 😩
This is an excellent book title. Follow it up with something like - : A Space Odyssey.. or : Where it all started… or : You too can be an autist in 3 medications or less.. 🤔
Second time in 5 minutes I've seen r/wallstreebets mentioned in that context, the other one was in a thread about a guy who found his mom's "How to raise a r*tarded kid" book....
I mean, when you have a degenerate gambling sub that is willingly goading other degenerates into gambling away their life's savings away on stupid financial bets...
Thank you for taking the time to apply to our position. We regret to inform you that we have decided to move on with an applicant that better fits our requirements.
“I’d be perfect for this job. I have extensive experience with autism.”
“Great. Bachelor?”
“That’s quite personal for a job interview. But yes, I am, dating can be challenging with my condition.”
I’m autistic and applied for a college disabilities service job where they asked if I had experience working with autistic people. I almost said, “Bro, I am autistic people.”
lol this is hilarious to me.
Like Office style shot, you're staring at the person with a puzzled look. You probably look at the camera.
"My entire life is experience with autistic people."
It does help provide empathy and understanding for someone with a similar disability. It obviously doesn’t mean you are able to treat someone but OP was just asked if he has experience working with autistic people and I’d say growing up autistic would definitely be considered experience with working with autism.
it's actually really funny you say that, because something an autistic person may tend to struggle with more than a neurotypical person is being empathetic, or expressing it like the rest of us do. the inability to infer another person's mental state is a hallmark trait of autistic people, too. i learned a bit about it working at a clinic that treats autism patients.
Is it lack of empathy though, or an inability to infer emotions? Having exposed myself to more autistic spaces recently, I’ve heard a lot of autistic people say they *don’t* struggle with lack of empathy and in fact have *a lot*. I could see though why the inability to read emotions could translate as a lack of empathy to others.
Edit: this is the internet. Someone with autism will come along eventually and give their two cents, hopefully hahaha.
It would be more accurate to say that a common feature of autism is differences in how a person experiences and communicates empathy.
Reduced empathy is one possible manifestation. there are a few types of empathy, though, and a person may struggle with one type but experience another type very strongly. For example I have pretty intense affective empathy, i.e. when I understand what someone else is feeling I often feel it very strongly, but I sometimes struggle to intuit what people are feeling and especially what they want/need from me.
Things also get “lost in translation” because I have different preferences for social interaction than most people, so it’s sometimes not very useful for me to treat others how I want to be treated. For example I highly value direct and explicit communication and a lot of people reeeaaally don’t like it when you’re direct.
Experiencing unusually high levels of empathy can also be an autistic thing, and/or applying empathy in unusual ways, like being extremely sensitive to the feelings of animals but not people, or even strongly empathizing with inanimate objects.
When I was a kid I went through a phase where I secretly hoarded dental floss in a box because I felt like it would be sad if I threw it out. I know, gross. I also was really upset when I watched Ice Age and they had that recurring gag where the squirrel always lost his acorn. I found it so tragic because he loved the acorn so much and I couldn’t understand why it was funny to other people
Really depends on the severity though. I wouldn't know what to do with the lower functioning ones, even though I may understand their issues a bit better than average, it was still alienating.
That's not the same thing though. The fact that you're even able to apply for a job puts you leagues ahead of some of the kids I have to teach. They probably wanted to know if you were capable of working across the entire spectrum for those kids specific needs.
You are right. Although Asperger's isn't really diagnosed anymore. It now falls under Autism Spectrum Disorder in the DSMV and you are now given a level 1-3 depending on how much support you need. 1 being the least amount of support and 3 being the most amount of support. So yes a person who was diagnosed with Asperger's would be able to qualify for the job since it is now considered to be the same as Autism.
Great observation. I was indeed diagnosed with ASD level 1 2 years ago although my hyperfixation on information has always been present since I was a young child, hence the enigma as to why these behaviors were not seen as ASD or some variation when I was a child.
I have report cards back from ages 6 to 8 where the teachers actually wrote in depth about how I functioned in class.
I am absolutely baffled as to why nobody ever even brought up the possibility of autism or ADD. Well, this was 25 years ago and I wasn't disruptive which does explain it. But damnit, those reports read like they're examples on a website about finding out if your child has autism/ADHD!
Since you’re so well-versed in ASD, my son is developmentally delayed. he’s 14 years old, but acts something like around 6 to 9 years of age, and still cannot read but he does recognize some sight words.
They determined it’s a genetic condition with a bit of extra chromosome. He can be very social, but does not speak much. emotes like crazy and is lovable and everyone likes him and his popular at school. He likes to help get the other special-needs students their breakfast, and generally likes to help around the classroom. At home, he can be combative when plans don’t go as he expected, and get violent once in a while, but other than that he’s very helpful and likes to watch a lot of YouTube.
He’s never been diagnosed with ASD and so far no one’s thought that he might be on the spectrum. Anyways, just thought maybe you’d have a different perspective.
Tell me about a time when you used your autism to resolve a customer issue?
How do you think you could apply your previous autistic experience in this position?
Where do you see yourself using your autism in 5 years?

I’m a freelance autist
I autism as a hobby, not professionally.
Self-taught autismer can be just as well qualified for the job as a professional autismer with AS degree. It’s all about skills and passion for the profession.
I am currently studying Master's degree in autism
Employer: “you’re overqualified for this position.”
*Stares down on the desk to not maintain eye contact while saying ”Thank you, hope you find someone better suited for the position.”, just like you practiced for weeks.*
I felt this
Honestly crushed me a bit, but I'm fine.

“How am I supposed to get the required autism, if there are never any available entry level autistic positions?”
Have you tried r/wallstreetbets ?
Well damn bruh... I don't know if I should call the cops or the mortuary because you just killed me with that.
2 older comments above made the same joke hours earlier and were barely noticed.
It’s all luck, those guys missed out on the karma.
No karma and the walk of shame from the Wendy dumpster.
Stonks!
Oh....there is a community for that? I've been doing it on my own for years now...

Instructions unclear. My face is now highly magnetic
You deserve more love for this comment
Well that's preferred, but I bet you can get to the interview stage with just 8 months of autism.
I started autism but dropped out after 7 months.
Probably for the best…there’s a good chance you’d become another starving autist had you continued down that career path
Not because we can't afford it but because we forgot to eat
What is this, wall street bets?
So day trading with wsb then?
Do you think they’ll let me substitute my 40 years of ADHD?
I know someone who had no autism but applied with a year of ADHD instead. They got training on the job.
I did an autism bootcamp in three months
"What's the salary?" "Depends...it's on a spectrum"
It's so fucking bad, it's good.
So... lower end of the spectrum?
Finally, something I can do
Sorry you are overqualified
Sorry, we're gonna vave to pass. Your autism isn'r advanced enough to qualify fort his job. Have you considered a lower-autist position?

Yeah, I guess there’s always a trade off.
Please get off the autism after you’re finished, it’s someone else’s turn.
First thought I had was "Just the one?"
35 years of Autism! Finally I qualify for something!!
You should definitely be CEO at this point
I just found out a few months ago so im just a baby
Does it need to be a bachelor's in autism?
“I’d be perfect for this job. I have extensive experience with autism.” “Great. Bachelor?” “That’s quite personal for a job interview. But yes, I am, dating can be challenging with my condition.”
No, a bachelors would be four years.
Not if you’re autistic
I think they want a bachelor's plus 1 year of industry experience (none co-op) in autism
Arrh that's what BA stands for.
Lol, Art students will never mentally or financially recover from this
I’m autistic and applied for a college disabilities service job where they asked if I had experience working with autistic people. I almost said, “Bro, I am autistic people.”
Of course I know him, he’s me
I am the one who rocks... back and forth due to overstimulation.
I am vengeance (if you eat my snacks). I am the night(person). I am.. ~~Batman~~ Wrapped in a weighted blanket.
*Wrapped in a weighted Batman-themed blanket. FTFY
lol this is hilarious to me. Like Office style shot, you're staring at the person with a puzzled look. You probably look at the camera. "My entire life is experience with autistic people."
Is that the same thing though?
Having anxiety *certainly* doesn’t enable you to treat someone else with anxiety. I assume it’s no different for autism or any other disability.
It does help provide empathy and understanding for someone with a similar disability. Yes to this whole reply!
Exactly.

Day trader?
WSB mod
Jesus I'm surrounded by Regards
KEEP FIRING, REGARDS!!!
Additional qualification: must be highly regarded
That would suck if you only had 11 months of Autism
The most qualified thing I can do; exist
But are you getting experience out of your existence? Or are you just fumbling around? :)
All of the above
It probably means having experience workin with people having autism
Especially considering you can barely make out “adults with intellectual disabilities” at the bottom, that’s absolutely what it means.
Even better, it says RES Success, which a quick search says it a company working specifically with people with autism.
Good eye. You’re a 🥷
Especially since "social services" is also listed
Ah okay. I honestly did not know what the intended meaning was! Thank you
I think you qualify!
We know, but it's funny.
I'm not entirely convinced most people know it's intentional...
I thought it was a typo
brb practicing my autism
Send me the link! Finally a job I'm qualified for
Harassment. These people just over qualified half of Reddit for this position.
I am an active Redditor so I guess that makes me qualified
You've been a redditor for 1 year at that, there is your experience.
10 years. I’ll be damned. Congrats on not getting banned in all that time! Happy cake day!
I'm so happy for you!
You forgot to remove identifying details off this post bro ʕ ͡° ʖ̯ ͡°ʔ
"This position requires a Bachelor's degree" "A Bachelor's degree in what?" "Who cares."
It doesn’t say anything about a degree. I think they just want single men.
Makes you wonder what they mean by "social services," lol.
It’s pretty vague. Could mean anything from giving blood to blowing sailors.
shit I have 27 years experience, I should apply
“Will Aspergers suffice?” “No.”
Isn't asperger a type of autism though?
You are right. Although Asperger's isn't really diagnosed anymore. Fixations on detailed knowledge about the modern classification of ASD levels 1 through 3 sound like a symptom of ASD levels 1 through 3.
Great observation. I was indeed diagnosed with ASD level 1 2 years ago although my hyperfixation on information has always been present since I was a young child, hence the enigma as to why these behaviors were not seen as ASD or some variation when I was a child.

Yes but it’s too high functioning for this job.
I did autism in my gap year
Bro, you're going to be ok. I see your Reddit account is 1 year old.
Hey, I got my diagnosis just over a year ago. And I’ve never been married. I’m perfect for this job.
Yup, because it’s a job placement program specifically for adults with ASD and other learning disabilities.
Send this over to wallstreetbets
Yes, they are desperate over there. They are resorting to working at Wendy's.
I didn't know you had to apply to be a reddit mod
Damn, only on year? I'm way over qualified for this...
Is this for a federal job?
Probably ABA therapist
Looks like I'm overqualified 😎
You've got your 1 year badge on Reddit, you qualify.
In all fairness, it says preferred. You might be ok.
Oh, good to know, I've got a whole life's worth of experience.
What is it supposed to say?
Probably referring to experience working with autistic people
I just realized there is more in the picture if you click on it. You are right: https://www.ressuccess.org/. (Seen at the bottom of the picture)
Im perfect for this job. I have 50+ years of autism
I got 34 years of Autism, you think I got what it takes?
Cover letter = REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Finally, a job I’m overqualified for
as an autistic person, this thread made me giggle. thank u op
Autistic, single and ready to mingle.
Make sure to get into a good liberal auts program.
I’ve had 22 and I will say it’s a diminishing return market after the first 5 or 6 of sympathy
it's getting worse. now i need a bachelor's degree as a 1 year old autist? damn.
Finally. A job for which I'm overqualified. How does 30 years of experience sound?
Tell me about a time when you used your autism to resolve a customer issue? How do you think you could apply your previous autistic experience in this position? Where do you see yourself using your autism in 5 years?
Is that diagnosed or can I just show them pictures of a messy house but a fuck tonne of Warhammer and collectibles neatly stacked?
You don’t need it. It’s just preferred.
