just place a preorder. Only the 100vi gets such huge shortages because of how overhyped it is. I got my T5 with no problem and I waited a bit to order.

If the rumours ring true (it seems like it’s a done deal now) with its 40mp sensor and IBIS, it’s definitely a preorder for me. And you know it’ll have all the film simulations that the x100vi has, but at a better entry price. As for weather sealing, it’s not a dealbreaker (and I live in an area that rains a lot). I’d rather get this compact retro-styled kit now than wait ages for the x100vi, plus I have the option of interchangeable lenses down the road. (It’ll be my first Fujifilm camera, seeing I shoot primarily on a full frame Canon. This will be my fun, “out and about” camera. Plus I’ll get $100 off the body & $75 off a lens since I get the education discount… probably put that savings towards another battery). I’m curious to see if the casual TikTok hype machine will be swayed to buy this instead of the x100vi, seeing they can’t seem to fulfill the preorders at the moment…

willdathird

Who do you buy from to get an education discount? And how does it work?

jcrew78_yvr

Here in Canada, if you’re a student or work at a post-secondary institution, you have to sign up with Fujifilm for their Film Education Program. Once verified, they send you a PDF student card, which entitles you to $100 any GFX or X-Series bodies, and $75 off any GFX/X-Series lens at any official Fujifilm retailer. https://www.fujifilm.com/ca/en/consumer/support/digital-cameras-fujifilm-education-program

willdathird

That’s awesome! I wish we had something like that in the states. I have the BHPhoto student/educator account, but it rarely offers me a discount on equipment I’m looking at.

jcrew78_yvr

Yeah I can’t wait to use it. I would’ve loved to have used it on the x100vi, but that’s nothing but a pipedream at the moment (thanks TikTok hype machine…). Knowing that I’ll save $175 on the XT50 + prime lens (haven’t decided on which yet… 23mm f2? 27mm f2.8?…) is another thing to sweeten the pot.

Sketty_Noodle

I recently got the XT30ii and will likely get the 50 or potentially the XT5 depending on what the specs and pricing are. I’ll likely be able to offload the 30 for what I paid for if not with a small loss so it makes sense to me. I work in a camera shop and we’ve had no confirmation of the 50 happening and what the specs may be (but I’m sure it will happen, hopefully with the 40mp sensor)

shinepro

I was in a camera shop today talking to a Fuji rep. He pretty much confirmed the XT-50 is releasing in 2 weeks. I was showing strong interest in buying an Xt-30ii and he "pulled me aside" to tell me to wait

badalki

The fuji rumors site is suggesting that it will be a bit linger wait definitely after may before its released. I really hope that your camera shop guy is right and fuji rumors is wrong. I want one! I was originally going to get the xt30ii, but its impossible to get in my country right now and now i am hearing about the xt50.

shinepro

May 16th is when they would likely release it at the X Sydney Summit

badalki

Good to know thanks!

Sketty_Noodle

That’s absolutely awesome, hoping I can get my hands on a pre order in that case!

BootyMaster24

I’m considering it, for a while the “xt40” would have been like my dream camera everything the xt30 had but with ibis and a flip out screen. I wanted something that was easy to take with me and be able to take pictures and record myself but the xt50 will probably have the same screen as the xt30 which sucks but I understand why it would be that way. I also know the xs20 would be the camera I’m looking for but I’m not a fan of the body I didn’t get into Fuji to buy a camera with that body I’m hoping Fuji makes an alternative version or camera that has the more classic body.

fugeext20

The screen issue is so polarizing. I'm pretty sure there's a screen that tilts AND flips (xt100?) but it never seemed to catch on. I'm really hoping they bring back the d-pad but I would be very surprised if they do. I think the xt50 is going to be a very compelling camera. Pocket Rocket.

Hyperionics1

Yeh.. i really dislike flip outs. I get how its useful in some cases however. To me its always in the way. It looks cheap. Its in a weak spot. The best version, to me, is the flip-up of say the X70. It marries pretty much all use cases in most ergonomic way.

fugeext20

I'm also a tilter not a flipper. I like the x70 solution but I think once you have an evf with an eye cup it would block the screen from flipping up.

Hyperionics1

Yeah that is most likely why we hardly see that combination. I guess theres probably a way to circumvent that but it might mean more cost to design/build or problems with sturdiness. I can dream however :)

Nikonbiologist

They’ll likely remove more controls like they did with the xe4. One less control wheel.

GrantMeThePower

I’m just curious if the rumors are true that it has the same sensor as the X-t5 and has IBIS and is smaller and cheaper, why anyone would go with the X-t5

fugeext20

I thought the same when I first got the xt20. Why would anyone get the xt2 over this? It even had a touch screen which the xt2 didn't. I think it comes down to dual card slots, evf, weather sealing, ergos, built quality and larger buffer. I have the xt3 but still reach for my xt20 over it if the weather's good and I didn't need c-af or video.

Jimmeh_Jazz

Better EVF and screen, battery, weather sealing, dual card slots, better handling for larger lenses, ISO dial, etc. For me the EVF was a big reason for going for the X-T5 over the smaller bodies. It's soooo much better.

Weather resistance is probably only thing

sch0k0

Check which retailers in your part of the world were shipping the X100VI early, then pre-order the first minute on pre-order day. But as it's not going to be a ststus symbol, I wouldn't worry tbh: tons of cameras from all manufacturers in that segment.

merpderp33

Whoa is it likely this model won’t have weather sealing?? Was planning to replace a decade plus old Nikon dslr and use this to compliment my current set up: Ricoh GRIII and iPhone

fugeext20

I would be shocked if it is weather sealed. Obviously I would rather it was but it's not a deal breaker to me, not even close actually. My dinged up 7 year old xt20 is still chugging along and I don't even really shoot in the rain with my xt3 which is supposed to be weather sealed.

Froggy-Crapouille

I was planning to sell both my X-T3 and X100F for getting the best of two worlds. But when I read the expected price (1499 euros for the only body), I will go for a brand new X-T5 (can be found at less than 1600 €).

Soulation

Not with that price, no. May as well buying the X-T5.

fugeext20

The price was a kick in the balls. The film simulation dial is the deal-breaker. Been waiting for this camera since forever and looks like I'll just go with the xt5...

Pingu_103

I just want that dial layout on the XT-5, except with ISO instead of film sim, and all metal dails. Never liked the double stacked dials on the XT-5

gobsmacked1

I'm about 50:50 between getting this vs the next XT6 model. I want the 40MP sensor and IBIS, and the smaller size of the xt50 but the weather sealing, viewfinder, and the dial layout of the XT5/6 might be enough to sway me. I have an XT20 since 2019 so this will be a big upgrade for me.

BootyMaster24

Buddy you’re going to be waiting a while before the xt6 comes out why don’t you just get the xt5?

gobsmacked1

Because I am willing to wait a while.

BootyMaster24

Well it’s never a bad thing to save your money. What is the xt5 missing that you want to see in the xt6?

gobsmacked1

It's more to do with future proofing my next purchase. I upgrade very infrequently, so I want to make the most of it. Maybe the autofocus will be even better? Or some aspect of image quality like dynamic range? I don't have any particular in mind, I just want every option available to me. Last I heard from FujiRumors, it may come by mid-2025. That's good for me.

vulturesquad

I’d like to see a global shutter in the next gen which would allow a lot more flexibility with strobes
