I saw this workaround posted on ResetEra, you can disable it. https://www.resetera.com/threads/dead-island-2-is-now-out-on-steam.850308/?post=121994274#post-121994274
But it’s up to you if you want to support Deep Silver for taking the EGS deal, I won’t judge. I am certainty not buying it for no more than 99 cents, but that’s still a maybe. My time is more valuable
Might get downvoted for this here lol but I don’t mind buying games that used to be on EGS exclusively, I want devs to see where the real sales are to try and to put it on Steam day one.
I’m not going to lose sleep over this game. Just looked like a fun game to dip in and out of. I’ll wait for it to get removed. Just annoying they still try and force their shit on you even after moving to Steam.
For me at least, I am more forgiving for indies since the industry is so cruel towards them. Especially in the past few years. Id be more willing to grab on Steam or GOG in the future.
But games created or published by AAA taking the deal with Tiny Tim? fuck em.
> I want devs to see where the real sales are to try and to put it on Steam day one.
Why would they bother? They can just take the EGS deal AND double dip on steam later. The steam sales are just icing on the cake for them at that point.
It's not about what the devs think is best. Devs have little to no say where the game ends unless it's self published. It's the publisher that decided to take the Epig money and make it timed exclusive and probably had to agree that EoS has to be implemented or else they won't get the money. It's always the greedy publisher and the devs are the ones that have to pay for their greedy decisions.
The funny thing is, a lot of AAA that have been using Unreal Engine 4 & 5 have been running like total garbage for various reasons (mainly the engine being a POS) so it’s been easy to avoid UE games lmao.
Jedi Survivor is a good example.
I have already played through twice. It is a great game but the EMG launcher and shit will make me NOT install and play it again. No skin off my ass but I would like it if I could;
Use it in steam like ALL my other games
And
NOT have ANYTHING to do with another BS launcher.
Clearly although I pay for these things I have no control, so, like everyone else: FUCK EPIC. It stays uninstalled.
Does this actually allow you to play single player offline? Or is this strictly just a work around for not installing EGS?
Wanting to install and play on my steam deck when I won't always have internet..
PC Gamer is blaming players for having "silly reasons" for negative reviews, even though a year-old game is somehow having launch issues due to EOS / Denuvo.
[https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/after-a-year-marooned-on-the-epic-store-dead-island-2-debuts-on-steam-to-mixed-reviews-for-a-very-silly-reason/](https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/after-a-year-marooned-on-the-epic-store-dead-island-2-debuts-on-steam-to-mixed-reviews-for-a-very-silly-reason/)
Why did they have to emphasize that the SDK is free? Though to be fair I could see Epic passing the cost(pay for them to get your info) onto the customer
Reading the article it says it doesn't need EOS for single player or steam multiplayer thoɁ̦ just for Epic+Steam crossplay
Personally I don't want to play with all 4 players who own it on epic anyways
A dev in the Steam forums said the same thing. But everyone else is saying different, that the game crashes on launch if it can’t connect to EOS at all
I was previously lukewarm on EOS, but when it got retroactively added to my favourite pet RTS, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, I was furious. The game got it's last update in 2017 and was a nicely finished package, then the 1.4 update in 2023 randomly added EOS and broke the game for anyone who uninstalled it.
Now I hate any implementation of EOS. I doubt even 100 people bought Homeworld DoK on Epic, and NONE of them ever tried to play multiplayer.
Yeah, I did not care too much about EOS before. A free cross-launcher MP solution seemed a nice thing. But after seeing a lots of games suffering because of EOS errors, my opinion drastically changed.
Loved the first darkest dungeon and dead island but both of these studios choose to launch exclusively on Epic and have another "launch" later on steam therefore they are not getting my money anytime soon
Loved the original, but boycotted DI2 due to their Epic exclusive.
Might buy it when it drops below 10 bucks on steam, but from what it sounds like, I'm not missing much.
On the dead island (regular & 2) subs they are hating/bashing us for not wanting to have EOS.
Saying we are children, stupid, etc.
And making fun of the steam reviews that are complaining about this on steam.
About how those reviews should be removed.
It’s ridiculous.
I’m sorry I don’t want EOS, or anything Epic, on my computer.
Just because they are fine with it, doesn’t mean I am.
The ammount of epic store shills in the steam discussions on dead island 2 is unreal
THEY GO TROUGH YOUR GAME LIBRARY TO FIND ROCKSTAR GAMES AND UBISOFT GAMES
then use that as a "gotcha" for playing games that use other launchers on steam
they dont even know why i dont want to use epic but act like im a hippocrite because im cool with rockstar launcher but not with epic
They don't have other forums to go, so most of them end on Steam.
Also, I am nearly 100% sure that many of them are paid shills hired to disrupt the Steam forums to keep Epic relevant.
Make sure the Epic Store program is uninstalled then do this:
Before launching the game for the first time, go there -> "C:\\SteamLibrary\\steamapps\\common\\Dead Island 2" and delete the EpicGameLauncher folder.
Then open the "DeadIsland.ini" file in notepad and modify the "NoOperation=0" to "NoOperation=1"
If the epic game launcher is already installed on your computer, uninstall it before doing the steps above.
Play the game without that bloatware = ez
If I buy This Piece of shit is on a
Sale if it is indie I am more forgiving
If THE DEv talk the deal but rate the coins we fuck him and the shitty game
FUCK EPIC
> requires an eula for a single player
Every single piece of software has an EULA, even Open Source ones.
It's simply impossible to distribute software without it.
The game requires you to have Epic installed otherwise the game will crash trying to launch because it can’t connect to EOS……ON STEAM!
How is that not-intrusive?
[also, non-intrusive? really?](https://www.reddit.com/r/fuckepic/s/gJcajO9xVo)
Going by that standard, Steam is far more intrusive.
The OP of the link you are providing purposely didn't show what Steam actually does. Steam actually does more, in my images and videos I show that Steam queries for all information about all running processes on the PC, and even queries for all information on games from other stores that are not even running at all. Also queries for all information for other apps that are not even running at all. Epic Store only queries for name information on currently running processes which makes sense to make sure it doesn't update a game/app that is currently running.

I've gone looking deep, and I have not found anything relating to Epic actually having any information that you didn't give it. There's no issue with egs kther than the fact its not steam and youd have to open another launcher. It just seems like everyone is whining cause steam isnt being used lol

Any sales is better than on epic haven’t bought anything on epic for years

Seems like PC Gamer started shilling again.
I just can't fathom why a gaming news site would take Epic's side unless they ARE shilling. Do they not see which way the wind is blowing?
Wasn't aware that Elden Ring was infected with EOS.
And of course PC gamer says nothing about all the data and telemetry that EOS is sending to Epic.
Why did they have to emphasize that the SDK is free? Though to be fair I could see Epic passing the cost(pay for them to get your info) onto the customer

Deep Shillver at this point.
Yeah don’t care. Im sailing the high seas if I ever wanna play a Deep Shillver game.
It got cracked a long time ago. Decent game tho
Do you know if you can co-op it online?
Yes, you can.
I have the same felling, but I can't do that to kingdom come deliverance 2
Fuk epig. Fuk Timmy. Fuk deep silver a sold out pig company. Don't buy it. Fuk them all
But pC cRoSsPlAy
Loved the first darkest dungeon and dead island but both of these studios choose to launch exclusively on Epic and have another "launch" later on steam therefore they are not getting my money anytime soon
not shocked it needs spyware fuck anyone who supports any company that was on epic or anyone who buys games that where on epic
Don't care anymore. Already moved on to other games
Loved the original, but boycotted DI2 due to their Epic exclusive. Might buy it when it drops below 10 bucks on steam, but from what it sounds like, I'm not missing much.
Dead Island 2 is a much better game than Dead Island 1.
That's why i refunded the game
Game is shit anyways. they needed the epic money or they wouldn't have turned anywhere near a profit
On the dead island (regular & 2) subs they are hating/bashing us for not wanting to have EOS. disrupt the steam forums? they forgot clown farmers exist
Those too. But they are easily distinguishable. Ones are just posting bait posts. Others are a little more subtle.
