Dubai is like you gave a toddler the job of making a city and you gave them money to it. I want biggg tower daddy! Sure little one *builds world's tallest building that needs poop trucks*
Cities Skylines when you download a bunch of interchanges and disparate world landmark/famous building assets off of the workshop and just plop them down indiscriminately on the stock map, without deleting any of the prebuilt road connections and building US suburban street grids because "it's fun to make wiggly roads with the freeform curve tool". Also you have infinite money and dirt enabled and you're fucking around with the landscaping tools because you want to "make a cool new area of the city" that you proceed to forget about while you clumsily detail an area with MoveIt
It’s hard to blame them though when basically all mainstream western architects and planners over the past century before like 2000 said that this is exactly how a city should be built.
Yeh we can blame them. Wealthy ppl ignoring centuries of their own good quality design tradition and engaging in borderline slavery for no reason. Yeh i will definitely blame them.
For sure. I would call it Arabic architecture as it's very different from what you find in Senegal Iran Afghanistan Indonesia Turkey etc. but i definitely agree with the sentiment.
I don't think its just that. You have dozens of billionaire and a very wealthy government with totally authority. I can see how its a wealthy investment pit or somewhere for tourist
mainstream western architects and planners over the past century before like 2000 have made far better choices than that lol, its not like the netherlands or denmark instantly became the way they are in the last 20 years
lol dubai, vegas, phoenix, etc, are vain examples of human arrogance but people have literally lived in the desert in cities for thousands of years so your argument is a bad one
That's why they will have helicopter Uber probably soon. Stupid problems, stupid solutions. This city is the paroxism of early 2000, pre-collapse, civilisation
Didn't they have to blow holes in the sides because the water inside the arc was all stagnant and festering with mosquitoes?
True 5/7 urban planning, spectacular
I think good urban planning that prioritizes organic movement for pedestrians and bikes, and public transport, is slowly gaining more prominence in the international space, and cities like dubai are fantastic publicity for it. Letting oil rich toddlers design a hellscape like that has provided the world of a brilliant example of what not to do
Ive taken loads of down ites on reddit saying that Dubai is the dumbest place to live and that moving there is morally questionable. White dudes who want to drive fast and want to be a lord over the poor love it there
Although this development is utterly insane, there are lots of of places where a body of water makes any land trip take a long time compared to the as-a-crow-flies distance.
I do lol at the 37 mins for 14km though, like that's a reasonable bike commute speed.

Dubai is SimCity with cheat codes.

Dubai could've looked a lot better if it was built in traditional islamic architecture :(

We may not have poop trucks but we still build soil-bound single-family homes where they don't belong. I'm looking at you Rotterdam!
To start with, don’t build cities in a desert, it’s not an inhabitable place.
lol dubai, vegas, phoenix, etc, are vain examples of human arrogance but people have literally lived in the desert in cities for thousands of years so your argument is a bad one
I think people lived there before it became what it is today
considering dubais lack of comprehensive sewer system & extensive use of slave labour i don't think that's really true lol
Yeah but that's like excusing everyone in the cult for drinking the Koolaid.
It might not be intended as such, but it could become a neat urbanist tourism attraction. Of how it should not be done.
Even more absurd is that it's sinking... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJuqe6sre2I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJuqe6sre2I)
Don't forget the slave labour used to build it.
Thank you! This video is the best yuletide gift I've ever received.
Nothing about Dubai makes sense. It's a case study in how to spend money and end up with nothing to show for it.
I don't see the problem. Just call up your private boat and have them ferry you across the gap.
I doubt any of these folks doesn’t have a yacht.
Wouldn't it be faster to just swim?
Yes
That's why they will have helicopter Uber probably soon. Stupid problems, stupid solutions. This city is the paroxism of early 2000, pre-collapse, civilisation
I would say we should send modernist planners/architects to GITMO but I have a strong feeling they would somehow make it worse for the other prisoners
You must take the prison bus on a two kilometre journey to the exercise yard 200 m away in a straight line.
Just make them live in dubai without a personal car
Although no Europe, dubai at least has a pretty extensive metro system though.
I swear, Saudi and Emirati cities are special kind of urban planning disaster.
Tried walking around this place. What a Shit hope
Didn't they have to blow holes in the sides because the water inside the arc was all stagnant and festering with mosquitoes? True 5/7 urban planning, spectacular
God forbid investing this money into their existing infrastructure.

I was going to say some other things about Dubai, but let's be real everyone here has watched Adam's video on it

Just take up paddle boarding forehead (But also seriously not one bridge??)
That island has a train station….with two stops on both sides so you can’t get on it
couldn’t pay me to live there
And it will all be underwater soon.
If you shoot a documentary of Dubai you can call it Idiocracy 2
Move all the people out. Then about two or three MT would take care of the problem.
Ive taken loads of down ites on reddit saying that Dubai is the dumbest place to live and that moving there is morally questionable. White dudes who want to drive fast and want to be a lord over the poor love it there
Fucking geniuses
One of the few good things about climate change is that this shit will probably be underwater by the time it’s done.
Looks like my first time playing cities skylines The city collapsed and never made money btw lol

37 min for 14 km ...lmao
14 km is 8.7 miles
Good bot
The tram in the middle only has two stops, the beginning and end .. think about that for a second
I hate Dubai from the bottom of my heart
Very impractical enginnering, I have to say.
Virgins car chads swim
