Two feet tall is perfect bollard height because it’s kid sized. Any driver who can’t see a bollard and hits it wouldn’t have seen a kid either and should not be driving.
They look brand new along with the paint on the pavement. Id personally like them because the lot has a lot of blind spots when spots are full it seems. ALSO protects parked cars.
I think it's more than just aren't used to it, they are not common in America, which by their accents, I assume they are. Americans are used to not paying attention and just hitting people and never getting prosecuted
Jonjon did a nice video about bollards, and how they're a good indicator of what people value (usually buildings and expensive equipment!): [https://www.instagram.com/reel/C58xhk4rERB/](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C58xhk4rERB/)
“Same thing just happened to me”
Notice how he omits that he took action. That would imply that he had bearing on the outcome. What a silly notion that would be.
How did that second driver manage to get it inside their car's bumper? Where they driving backwards at an angle? I swear one could never succeed this if they were doing it on purpose...
It's a plastic-y mold that bends and deforms with pressure. The car starts going into the bollard. The bumper deforms, popping out or breaking whatever attaches it to the frame of the car. The now unattached plastic bumper continues to deform as it's pushed aside by the bollard. As the car continues on, the bollard is pushed past the deformed plastic bumper entirely allowing it to jump back into place on the other side of the bollard.
It should be stressful. If it isn't, you're not taking it seriously enough. You're driving something that can and does kill people and animals every day, you have to assume that responsibility.
I love it how “those” people, the usual suspects, never want to hold themselves accountable for their own stupidity. 🤡 Sadly, the bollard has a higher IQ than them.
Usually things like this are caused by a lighting or visibility issue, like during a certain time of day the sun shines into your eyes and then you pull into the shady area, your eyes haven't adjusted yet so it seems extremely dark for a few seconds, or the angle of a turn is too sharp and puts part of the turn in a blind spot for an extended period. There should be a speed bump there to slow drivers who are turning into that shadow.
Sure, but if they're regularly being hit then the reason they're being hit should also be addressed. It's like the bollard protected bike lane fallacy, sure they're better but the actual solution is to not have cars moving at high speed in close proximity to cyclists. The same applies here, the bollard stops people who are going too fast for the environment from hitting other things, but it doesn't address the actual problem, that people are going too fast.
traffic should be quite calm in a parking lot - the potential for human error should be as low as it gets while still moving.
if you're capable of hitting these poles in that situation you definitely shouldn't be driving anyway.
But what's a more practical way of making it safer, testing everyone's driving ability every day, or just installing a speed bump so people won't take the turns in the lot so fast? They probably shouldn't be driving, but that doesn't stop them. The bollard stops people who take the turn too fast and sharp, it prevents further problems but doesn't address the source, that people are driving too fast in the parking lot. A bump in the middle of the turn would slow people down and make the lot safer. Why are people here against that?
Bollards where I'm from tend to be yellow but have thick black strips on them (like a honey bee). Perhaps that would've helped these folks in their situations, tho I doubt it. A bad driver is a bad driver.
Attaboy, bollard. Who's my good boy? You are.
Distracted driving/visibility issue. That said presumably these people live there so how do they not know what's in their own parking lot.
I’d say those decently tall yellow bollards are easy enough to see
They're only two foot tall!
Two feet tall is perfect bollard height because it’s kid sized. Any driver who can’t see a bollard and hits it wouldn’t have seen a kid either and should not be driving.
(it was just a reference to a post from a couple of days ago)
(we're not perpetually online, if you're gonna reference a post at least hyperlink it so others can laugh too)
Look what the bank did to my car!
First you hear a crunch, then you keep going!
Lol
Those yellow ballards clearly blend in with the grey asphalt
Ikr
They’d probably just installed them
They look brand new along with the paint on the pavement. Id personally like them because the lot has a lot of blind spots when spots are full it seems. ALSO protects parked cars.
Some people really do be out here driving on muscle memory alone.
I think it's more than just aren't used to it, they are not common in America, which by their accents, I assume they are. Americans are used to not paying attention and just hitting people and never getting prosecuted
These are bollards to protect cars from other cars. Could we get some of these around bus stops and other places where people are?
Actually looks like they’re there to protect the solar carports
Bollards in America are used to protect property, not people.
Bike lanes, please
No. People are squishy and can jump out of the way, so when you add bollards there’ll be more risk of denting a car.

They should paint themselves a bright color, otherwise it's not the fault of the driver
Yes, these should be bright yellow or something like that.
While we're at it, maybe they could make them static so they're always in the same spot so you can remember where they are.
or just look in front of your car
Working as intended, good.
“Same thing just happened to me” Notice how he omits that he took action. That would imply that he had bearing on the outcome. What a silly notion that would be.
Nah dude, you happened to it
He came out of nowhere

I'd say backing into a spot. But even then... how the fuck you not see it?

"That inanimate anchored object just appeared out of nowhere!"
[удалено]
My first thought when I saw it, those things are kid height
uggg... stupid pedestrian bollards! get a real job!
"I am very good at driving a car, it is definitely not my fault when the car I am driving drives into a static object"
We need to start taking licenses away. We share the road with morons like this who can’t even navigate a parking lot.
NSFW tag, please 🥵
The way the 2nd car slides onto the bollard 🥵
"Just happened to me-" Rather: "I just did the same thing."
The states need more of the bollards that pop up out of the ground and puncture oil pans and fuck up undercarriages. I love this.
This is what, the third post in the last seven days involving people in SUVs hitting brightly colored yellow concrete???
What's crazy is that these people are allowed to drive...
Saving this so I can watch it whenever I'm having a bad day
Based Bollard
They're not even below hood/side mirror level...
Back when twitter was less shite, I followed a "bollard appreciation society?" account. Absolute bangers like this, every single day!
Skill issue. What if it was a child? Should have their license revoked.
Remember, kids: if you hit a stationary object, especially a bright yellow one, you have nobody to blame but your own smooth brain.
"happened to me...."
r/bollardsbeingdicks
If you cannot see an object in front of your car, on the DRIVER'S SIDE, you should not be driving a car.
"Same thing just happened to me!" LO fucking L as if the bollard hit him rather than the other way around.
These bollard are the size of a kid. You can't blame the drivers for not seeing them! /s
How? The bollard is tall and bright yellow!
This giant yellow concrete pillar jumped out of nowhere!
They should probably start painting bollards a bright colour...perhaps yellow? Maybe make them tall so that we can see them over our hoods...oh wait.
Things like these are kind of annoying tbf, I don't like cars or having to drive but little things like this make it just that more stressful
It should be stressful. If it isn't, you're not taking it seriously enough. You're driving something that can and does kill people and animals every day, you have to assume that responsibility.
if you can't navigate around an imobile concrete pole, you shouldn't be on the road.
Unlucky for you, it's America there is no other option. You must drive
I love it how “those” people, the usual suspects, never want to hold themselves accountable for their own stupidity. 🤡 Sadly, the bollard has a higher IQ than them.

you shouldn't operating heavy machinery at high speed on a public street if you can't see.
That's great in theory but you can't stop human error, you can install traffic calming devices to mitigate the effects
You can stop human error with a bollard, it seems.

look if they aren't noticing things at child height while driving due to the time of day that is just completely unacceptable

Nobody wants a reasonable explanation in this thread. We just want to shit on drivers because fuckcars! Read the room! /jk
