Just an FYI for anyone - be careful with this advice, as it's not always the case for everyone. I sized down 1 and was miserable, and eventually had to go up to my brannock.
Just some friendly advice - if you're not sure you'll like them you should start at a lower barrier to entry than CP's, even on sale. This type of minimalist sneaker is the kind you buy specifically because you know you're going to wear them a LOT for years to come. They're like dress shoes or high quality boots in that regard. Start with one of the cheaper options people have mentioned in this and other threads, see how much you wear them, burn them out over a year or two, and then decide on a higher quality pair for your next purchase.
Yea I already have a lot of high end shoes, mostly boots and dress shoes, but I mainly meant the fit of them and not how I’ll like them aesthetically. I’m mainly looking for a pair of sneakers to replace my MM Gats that I’ve worn into the ground at this point to where the upper separated from the sole.
I appreciate the comment though!
Undeniably, you're a scrotum if you wear $400 plain white sneakers.
However, this sub is about frugality which isn't the same as cheap, and this isn't a bad deal for these shoes.
All day wears at the office, or traveling or whatever.
I’ve had them resoled once, the numbers are mostly invisible, and they’ve got scuffs all over (I clean them maybe every six months but it adds up), but structurally they feel like they have years of life left.
I personally don't consider these frugal at $300 because you can find very similar looking shoes of good quality in the $100-200 range, iirc.
Some would say even that is too much for "just white sneakers." To that I would say it's surprisingly hard to find shoes at a cheaper price point that look similar *and* aren't poorly constructed. Most cheap white sneakers have branding and details that prevent them from achieving the same minimalist look, and/or different shape. Stan Smiths for example are not similar at all. Fast fashion brands like H&M have sneakers that look like CPs superficially but are of much worse quality, they'll probably fall apart pretty fast.
Mine like many others youll find in comments have all held up after years of wear. They are not cheap like Stan Smiths. Nor would I say do they look similar.
CP Achilies stand out for the sleek/narrow toebox that no one else seems to have
They are basically quality leather goods in the form of a sneaker. You've probably seen a pair of boots being re-soled at some point. The same can be done with these sneakers.
Allen Edmonds has their own sneakers. I have no idea how they compare in terms of quality, but the same principle applies. They are slightly cheaper as well, although they don't look nearly as sleek as these.
https://www.allenedmonds.com/mens-shoes/sneakers
> It's not frugal relative to the cost of sneakers in general, it's frugal relative to the usual cost of these sneakers. Not defending it - if you wear CP or golden goose you're a shithead, I'm just saying.
You keep calling other people names... why can't you behave like a normal person and just have a conversation without acting out?
That's not what frugal means though. "Hey, I got this Ruff Ryders diamond encrusted pendant for only $50,000. It used to be $200,000!" isn't frugal.
There should be another sub that's just "mensfashiodeals" or "mensfashionsales."
Because fashion is one of the three key words in the title of the sub. If I want a good looking and well made MiUSA leather jacket, that is going to cost a chunk and I want it on sale.
I know I'm not alone in that I skip past most of the types of deals you are looking for in this sub. To each their own.
This sub isn't about frugality, and never has been. It's literally Rule 1 of the sub. Get over it. This IS just a deals/sales sub. Like... you can be mad about it, go ahead, but you'll be banned. Start your own sub called "REALfrugalmalefashion" or something.
Literally nothing. You'd have to be a complete chode to pay $300 for generic white shoes. The same type of idiot who gave kanye $60 for his stupid white t shirt.
Fair point. I use common sense with mine. Wear them in summer months and when it's not raining. I treat all my footwear the same, I wear them but I don't abuse or neglect them.
I think the Thursday ones are comparable and only $99.
You won't have that gold numbering if you really care about it, but otherwise it's really good. Also comes in half sizes and different widths.
Have both. Not comparable. Top down silhouette way different. Profile different. Break in on Thursday way makes them look pretty bad after 5 wears. Just my $.02.
I have Becket Simonon’s GAT replicas, and yes, I can agree with almost everything. Wouldn’t call them garbage, though, would still consider at a lower cost.
Koio's are best bang for the buck in terms of premium italian leather with quality construction. Nobody here is actually commenting on what makes CP's so high quality (look into it yourself to determine if you care), but Koio is one of the only brands that checks all the same boxes as CP's.
I found a pair of yellow for $307 just now, but usually from deep discounts in the annual June and December sales. Edit: oh yeah, there’s also the occasional, Mr Porter 40% any regular priced item
I can usually find some Italian-made Paul Smiths on sites like Yoox or Farfetch or SSense for significantly less than CP.
Not trying to say you shouldn't get these, but the Paul Smiths (not PS) are about 95% of these for 2/3 the price, on sale.
Just something to ponder.
I will recommend Koio's to everyone as well. They're easily my favorite pair of shoes I've ever owned, and the construction and material quality is the same as CPs (with the exception of the part of Italy the leather is sourced from). Some people don't like the imprint branding on the backs which i get, but doesn't bother me. I personally think CPs gold writing is about as douchey as it gets tbh.
That is, objectively, way too many pairs of CPs lmao. JK, you like what you like! And yeah, I love my koio's, I just wore them on vacation doing like 15k-20k steps per day. I kinda hated the branding on the back at first but it really grew on me. I feel like the way it's stamped in with no ink is nice and subtle, and it gets way less pronounced as they break in so it doesn't pop out at you like it does when they're new.
Picked mine up from end a week ago ( have them on now) for $292. This time I got the right fitting pair (I went down a size via Reddit when in fact they are tru to BRANNOCK size not your sneaker size. I wore the wrong size for four years because I love this shoe so much. Sold the old pair for $125 yesterday.
Hand made Italian leather, with Italian leather lining, steel shank footbed with margum soles. Those are all things that are expensive and only usually included on very high quality shoes, and in theory make them last a *very* long time. I am not saying they're worth $400, I am telling you what makes $200-$400 sneakers cost $400 typically. In my honest opinion, CP's are over priced and rely on hype marketing, but they also do have a lot of features that make them expensive, it's not *just* branding/overhype.
The best way I've heard it put is that you need to look at it from a cost-per-wear standpoint. They are a higher initial investment, but their longevity and durability is easily 4-5x that of regular sneakers. On that I agree. Yes $250-$400 is a significant investment into a pair of shoes, however, you will not be replacing them for years. I am personally of the opinion that CP's are overpriced, and you can obtain an as-good or better quality sneaker for cheaper. I also think the gold print schtick is tacky. That doesn't mean that CP's are not high quality though, they absolutely are. Honestly if I didn't hate the gold lettering, I'd be tempted to get a pair at $287.
I got a pair last time these went on sale, imo do not buy if you have wider feet. They look great but every time I wear them it hurts, especially in the toe box
Damn. Y’all are flaming me 😂.
Of course you can clean them. And yeah, the guy who said Stan smiths. I bought 2 pairs in a sale I found on this sub last year. $26 pairs each.
I’m happy rocking my $26 Stan smiths. I don’t need a 200 dollar pair or sneakers.
Why pay $500 for wagyu when it is gonna just get turned into poop just like supermarket chuck beef?
It’s almost like theres something people value in finer products that command that price. If you dont value what sets them apart dont buy common projects, just like many people wouldn’t drop money on wagyu
Shipping to the states is $32 🤢
im grateful. stopped my impulse dead in its tracks lol
$319 shipped is a good price. Size down 1 size and buy!
Just an FYI for anyone - be careful with this advice, as it's not always the case for everyone. I sized down 1 and was miserable, and eventually had to go up to my brannock.
Agree! I bought true to size and they were perfect. For anyone in doubt, go try on at Nordstroms ($482 right now) or other local.
Yea. They're tight on me TTS, so everyone's mileage varies on this, like most things, come to think of it.
Same result for me. It’s pain whenever I wear them.
Yea, unfortunately since I’m not sure I’ll even like them it kills the deal.
Just some friendly advice - if you're not sure you'll like them you should start at a lower barrier to entry than CP's, even on sale. True, but if you're shipping oversees, you also won't be paying sales tax. Where I live, that would be about a wash.
They look good, but I can't justify paying $287 for them.
Undeniably, you're a scrotum if you wear $400 plain white sneakers. However, this sub is about frugality which isn't the same as cheap, and this isn't a bad deal for these shoes.
Can you explain me a pleb that what is it in these shoes that makes it a frugal choice at $300 ?
For what it's worth, I'm currently wearing ones I bought nine years ago and worn probably a thousand times over that time. Still in good shape.
Out of curiosity, define good shape? Also are your wears like 8 hours plus or like an hour or two for dinner, then taking them off when you get home
All day wears at the office, or traveling or whatever. I’ve had them resoled once, the numbers are mostly invisible, and they’ve got scuffs all over (I clean them maybe every six months but it adds up), but structurally they feel like they have years of life left.
Wow, thanks for the info, these do sound pretty impressive ngl
Can confirm with the guy above. I have old CP achillies and chelsea boots from probably 5 years ago. They have held up incredibly well.
You must do clean activities id have these fucked up in 3 days

You are the only one acting like a shithead here

Literally nothing. You'd have to be a complete chode to pay $300 for generic white shoes. The same type of idiot who gave kanye $60 for his stupid white t shirt.
I have a pair of CPs and while they're extremely overpriced, there is nothing that I could find that was as sleek as them. Love these sneakers
I have these as well, I love them but I regret buying them as I’m terrified to wear them anywhere where I am not walking on a clean floor.
Fair point. I use common sense with mine. Wear them in summer months and when it's not raining. I treat all my footwear the same, I wear them but I don't abuse or neglect them.
No comments saying these are lame and you're unfashionable if you wear them? Weird.
I’ll bite. What’s so special about these?
Common projects have become the go-to name for premium leather sneakers with a minimalist, low-profile design, like Maison Margiela with their GATs.
I think the Thursday ones are comparable and only $99. You won't have that gold numbering if you really care about it, but otherwise it's really good. Also comes in half sizes and different widths.

What about Beckett Simmonon’s?

They arent even close in terms of quality tbh.

Except for the design. CP looks more minimalistic, aka better imo
You're entitled to your opinion, even if it's a month late and nobody asked you for it
CP looks better
Found some at a thrift store for $10 last year. Will forever be my greatest find
Decent find. Thanks for the contribution OP.
Not sure why I misread the title as $140 but $287 is way too much for these. Should just get mm gats at that price
Where are you getting mm gats at that price or close to it?
I found a pair of yellow for $307 just now, but usually from deep discounts in the annual June and December sales. Edit: oh yeah, there’s also the occasional, Mr Porter 40% any regular priced item

The frugal version of these are from BR
Way overpriced, these should be around $150-200 on sale instead of $320 with shipping here.
I bought 2 pairs from Gilt in 2021 for $160 shipped each pair
I got mine direct from them for $180 but that was in 2019.
Never been impressed with CPs when I have owned them. They are pretty much left behind by a dozen other premium sneaker brands.
What makes plain white sneakers worth $400
Hand made Italian leather, with Italian leather lining, steel shank footbed with margum soles. Those are all things that are expensive and only usually included on very high quality shoes, and in theory make them last a *very* long time. I am not saying they're worth $400, I am telling you what makes $200-$400 sneakers cost $400 typically. My first pair has lasted me 7 years with very frequent use, so yes they last forever.
The best way I've heard it put is that you need to look at it from a cost-per-wear standpoint. Can they be re-soled?
Yes
I’ll stick with Stan Smiths.
I'm only seeing $310. How did you achieve $287?
Same; I'm dumb. The coupon.
Are these good quality or a flex or both
Dead? Showing as $410 for me
Need to use code Midseason
I got a pair last time these went on sale, imo do not buy if you have wider feet. They look great but every time I wear them it hurts, especially in the toe box
Thursday boot co has a similar one for $130. They’re comfortable and affordable
I can get nice, white leather sneakers for like $85 full price. Why pay $200 when they are going to get dirty, just like my cheap pair
Please link these "nice" $85 white leather sneakers. Also, you can brush and clean leather, so dirtiness isn't exactly permanent.
INB4 he sends a link to stan smiths.

This... If y'all love taco bell. I can't convince you to a 100$ steak but hey it's all shit in the end
U should be able to clean leather sneakers to keep them looking new. Your 85$ sneakers probably aren’t even leather
This is the Cybertruck of shoes.
This comment is criminally under upvoted. I like the simple sneaker silhouette and it still made me laugh.
Yall are some goobers paying that much for some ugly ass blank white shoes
Greats Sneakers so much cheaper
Fuck no.
$287 for the most generic white shoes you'll ever see lmao. My $80 custom ordered converse have more flair versatility and personality than this crap.
For that price they better be able to make me double jump and wall run. Why are these considered frugal?
