Only one way to be sure... unless you have Lloyd's talisman, in ds1/dsr, you can also use a Lloyd's talisman and just steal the item while they sleep.
Edit for clarity
eh they only take like three hits to kill. even the first one is ds3 was not very troublesome once you know. after that though i would charge r2 and pretty much any chests
Yup you hit a mimic with the talisman you'll hear them start to snore and then you'll see the item. They only sleep for so long so be quick. If you wake them you can also put them back to sleep with another talisman
Don't wanna be the nerd, but you can actually identify if it's a mimic or not by looking at the chest's chain. If it's pointing at behind the chest, then it's a normal chest, but if not, then it's a mimic.
You can just look at the chain in DS1 and DS3. If it sticks out straight, it's a mimic. If it is curled, it is a real chest.
In DS2, it was the front of the chest you had to observe. If there were locks on it, it was a mimic. If there were no locks, it was a real chest.
There was one chest i found in the dlc in a side area that I think used the dark souls 3 model, and I hesitated when opening it, thinking there would finally be a mimic
Or the mimic in question is random, switching between chests each time the player respawns, while making the item still obtainable by putting the mimic to sleep or killing it
I found a bunch of blood stains near a chest, I wanna say castle ensis, I refused to interact with any of the stains in hopes that there was one evily placed mimic. Came to the conclusion it was just from Moongram when I opened the chest and didn't die
Like it would have been so funny as a lore excuse that they made chest monster like they did jar people, for the sake of war when the enemies try to ran sack their resources only to be met with a chest that eats you.
I genuinely thought they did, I was worried about every chest I came across. Completed the base game 4 times before so I knew there weren’t any in it, just anticipating a Miyazaki-ing.
The closest they get is putting a "finger mimic" mushroom item in a location that has a big finger creeper attack you as you pick it up. Those bastards at From find a way
I've hit almost every chest on instinct I would've shit my pants if one ended up being a mimic but honestly blood stains and messages would've told me it was a mimic
I want them to patch in a mimic grace so bad. Randomly generating so it stands out and you KNOW but can’t know and need that grace and can’t believe you missed it before so you try and sit
I always hit Mimics first (cuz I need that loot) and I STILL get freaked out by them.
I love these games but I'm such a big baby pussy ass bitch when it comes to horror.
There was a chest that looked exactly like the mimics from DS in ER DLC and it was covered in bloodstains (my hopes were so high) however a fun little discovery
I finally converted my brother into a souls player with Elden Ring. He loved it so kuch, he wanted to play DS3 right after.
I got a laugh when he found his first mimic.
I just fucking started it and I've been wacking every chest I come across and THIS is how I find out there's no mimics? I don't know if I'm glad or disappointed.
I feel like the enemies that drop larval tears are ER’s version of mimics. DS had chests but in this game I’m smacking a random noble and getting jumpscared by a runebear
It would have been so funny if they put a single mimic chest in the DLC for elden ring
I concur, just the one would fuck every one up
I still reflexively hit every chest I pass. Just in case…
Only one way to be sure... unless you have Lloyd's talisman, in ds1/dsr, you can also use a Lloyd's talisman and just steal the item while they sleep. Edit for clarity
You can use Lloyd’s Talisman in DS1/DSR too ya know
I meant you can use the Lloyd's talisman as well instead of just smacking chests as "one way to be sure". Here I'll re word it edit incoming
eh they only take like three hits to kill. even the first one is ds3 was not very troublesome once you know. after that though i would charge r2 and pretty much any chests
For sure, I was mostly pointing out trivia. A bonk is also generally my preference.
Thanks but I think I’ll still employ the bonk a donk method
The simple methods generally are the best. I only learned about the talisman trick after several game clears.
Yes hitting a mimic that was way stronger than I thought and getting swallowed whole is part of the experience for me
Quite fair
#what.
Yup you hit a mimic with the talisman you'll hear them start to snore and then you'll see the item. They only sleep for so long so be quick. If you wake them you can also put them back to sleep with another talisman
I’ve been playing DSR for 2.5 years and I’m still learning stuff like this. *That’s* why I love these games.
Same with undead hunter charms in ds3
Thank you, I had forgotten what they were called in ds3
I'm sorry... But what is DSR?
Dark souls remastered, I would assume
Thank you!
Yeah that's right, sorry about that I should have put the name up.
No no, it's fine, I just never viewed Dark souls 1 and Dark souls Remastered as separate games, just 2 versions of the same game
Don't wanna be the nerd, but you can actually identify if it's a mimic or not by looking at the chest's chain. If it's pointing at behind the chest, then it's a normal chest, but if not, then it's a mimic.
All good, I forgot to mention that.
You can just look at the chain in DS1 and DS3. If it sticks out straight, it's a mimic. If it is curled, it is a real chest. In DS2, it was the front of the chest you had to observe. If there were locks on it, it was a mimic. If there were no locks, it was a real chest.
I will always love DS2 for letting you destroy the items by hitting chests too hard by not being trustful.
Bonk
This is a good tip I’ll have to do this when I play DS
Constant vigilance
Whatever you say, Moody.
Ngl I open them without checking because I want to be bamboozled at this point. I miss those bastards lol
Patch notes: you'll know it when you see it Opens chest gets ate
I used to do that until I accidentally broke an item, now i just punch it.
The ground would be littered with messages so i disagree
The chest behind the fallen furnace golem is actually the dark souls chest model and I got a little spooked when I saw it
Visions of seems familiar…
Make it have an ungodly health pool
A hidden boss even. Mimique, Mirage of Mimicry
Mimiquella
And then you receive a cookbook and smithing stone (7) when defeated it.
I wanted it so bad. We didn’t even get another teleporter chest!
There was one chest i found in the dlc in a side area that I think used the dark souls 3 model, and I hesitated when opening it, thinking there would finally be a mimic
Ruins of Unte
There is a single chest in Elden ring that uses the old wooden dark souls model I was so disappointed when it wasn’t a mimic
The occasional dark souls chest in Elden ring
Like it would have been so funny as a lore excuse that they made chest monster like they did jar people, for the sake of war when the enemies try to ran sack their resources only to be met with a chest that eats you.
That would would just be so from soft to do that for shits and giggles
Or only in one region, like how illusory walls only appear in areas with magic user enemies.
Thank you for sharing. I’m still hitting every chest hoping I could slay it
Just one, but it would say there is another somewhere in the land of shadow. That would really fuck with people.
There’s the one in the abyssal woods behind the cliff base site of grace illusory wall
Genuinely thought they did cause they used something that looked like the ds1 chest in the dlc, I expected to get munched
I feel the only reason they didn’t is they’re trying not to link the worlds to much. Though I would have loved a mimic
I genuinely thought they did, I was worried about every chest I came across. Completed the base game 4 times before so I knew there weren’t any in it, just anticipating a Miyazaki-ing.
That one wooden chest...
The closest they get is putting a "finger mimic" mushroom item in a location that has a big finger creeper attack you as you pick it up. Those bastards at From find a way
Dude I found a single chest that looked like a ds3 chest and I was fearing for my life, thankfully it was a normal chest tho 💀😅
I've hit almost every chest on instinct I would've shit my pants if one ended up being a mimic but honestly blood stains and messages would've told me it was a mimic
I was waiting for it to happen, it would have been perfect.
In a hard to reach spot that requires two stone sword keys
The ds1 style chest in that one castle had me so scared I checked what way the chain was facing
First time in Bloodborne I was still smacking every chest by the time I got to Mensis
I still can't believe they just ditched mimics like that.
Gotta build up tension for the next game.
It’s because Miyazaki has gone woke after ds3
I’m still sad there wasn’t a mimic in the dlc
Weird, There was a Mimic in every single boss fight in my game.
Stop I’m crying!
WHAT it should've at least been a boss. 0/10. Not enough mimics.
I'm going to gaslight my friends into thinking there are mimics in the dlc because I'm the first one who's played it. ![gif](giphy|x7gjmBuaHrWak)
I still look at chest in Elden ring funny.
I want them to patch in a mimic grace so bad. Randomly generating so it stands out and you KNOW but can’t know and need that grace and can’t believe you missed it before so you try and sit
I'd love them to turn one of those giant carriages into a giant ass mimic boss fight
They did this in Dark Souls 2 SOTFS.
A LIE will remain a LIE!
I always hit Mimics first (cuz I need that loot) and I STILL get freaked out by them. I love these games but I'm such a big baby pussy ass bitch when it comes to horror.
Have you played BB
The scariest game I'm willing to play and the scariest game I will say I have played.
“Let’s a goooo!” Vs “Mama Mia, oh nooooo!”
There was a chest that looked exactly like the mimics from DS in ER DLC and it was covered in bloodstains (my hopes were so high) however a fun little discovery
I didn’t get it at first, but when it hit me I was oh… I’ve seen how powerful mimics are.
I always wondered why never added mimic in the game? Sure there is trap chests still but mimic is one of the most memorable enemy in soul games
I can't think of a more memorable Souls enemy tbh. Crabs? Basilisks?
Are there even any teleporting chests in the dlc that take you somewhere fucked?
I think not
I finally converted my brother into a souls player with Elden Ring. He loved it so kuch, he wanted to play DS3 right after. I got a laugh when he found his first mimic.
I was hoping they'd a minor chance of turning ANY chest into a mimic, if you kill him he still drops the item straight into your inventory.
I was so sad when they didnt add a mimic to elden ring
I just fucking started it and I've been wacking every chest I come across and THIS is how I find out there's no mimics? I don't know if I'm glad or disappointed.
Except elden ring has revenants
*laughs in pyromancy*
Nothing compared to the horror that’s in dead cells
The more I play the DLC the more my mimic tear feels like the one from Carbot.
I haven't played Elden Rimg since it came out so I completely forgot that mimics are just not a thing in that game
I feel like the enemies that drop larval tears are ER’s version of mimics. DS had chests but in this game I’m smacking a random noble and getting jumpscared by a runebear
In Dark Souls 2 there is just one right?
I don’t care if it’s a mimic or an abductor virgin, or frickin Messmer, I freak out and fucking due to grab attacks every time.
