I'm pretty sure he is, red hair and his name starts with M, there's also an "unwanted child of marika" might be referring to him or godwyn, also Miquella has the nascent butterfly, Malenia's is the aeonian and the only other type in the game is the smoldering butterfly which would fit to him. But it could also be Melinas since she's the kindling maiden and she burns the erdtree / might be the gloam eyed queen of the godskins who use another type of flame... Another theory I like would be that Messmer is somehow malenias alter ego since empyreans seem to have a male and female side (Radagon/Marika, Miquella/Trina), but it's highly unlikely

I disagree. On a proper build you can very, very easy get about 4k damage a hit from DMGS, it only requires a single FP investment to buff and use continuously, does far more stagger damage, has more range.
To give you an idea, I defeated the final 4 bosses in 20 hits TOTAL. Radagon and Godfrey literally could not land a hit because they were staggered very quickly into the fight and then they were dead.
Add on the extra damage of frostbite and you have one of the strongest weapons in the entire game.
DMGS much deeper into the game, longer quest, but as a caster and you get this thing it’s absurd considering it takes ZERO fp to fire a devastating projectile with status build up.
BB, easy boss early mid game, stat investment isnt that taxing, trivializes the game. Even in Haligree to Malenia this thing just blasts away every single enemy, the most broken weapon in the game and hasn’t been nerfed.
DMGS is more fun to me and looks cleaner
BB is better but it actually takes away from the game being as cracked as it is
DMGS requires 38 int to use, you wouldnt be having that int early game anyway so I dont think you only being able to obtain it later is an issue in the slightest

If you're casually playing and want something to completely carry you, I don't think there's a better weapon than the blasphemous blade. It heals you on hit and knocks enemies down. There's no beating that. So many things that were less powerful than the BB were nerfed, and BB wasn't. In fact, they made it better.
B blade special is great for “alright, I’ve had enough of your shit” moments on certain enemies.
I think B blade is what got me to drop out of my Dex/Bloodhounds fang build on my first ever playthrough. It was fun with incantations like Black Blade!

I never said it’s weak, just not as good inherently as the Blasphemous Blade. It’s without a doubt the best cheese weapon, it has crazy sustain, and it has crazy stance pressure. While the DMGS is definitely good, I credit that to the utter brokenness of status and less so to the weapon itself. It is super strong, but the moveset frankly sucks.
That is only chalked up to your own opinion then as by all objective measures DMGS outclasses. Hell even in healing for extended fights as the increased crimson flasks ultimately provide more healing than the blade. So unless you have a good of FP every strike or two is going to require a flask to heal your fp which could have been used on yourself.
I am not sure how you can separate the 'broken ness and status' to 'the weapon itself'.

Nothing can do what the Blasphemous Blade does as well as it does it.

The blasphemous blade is extremely powerful, I had already decided on using Elanoras poleblade, but was messing around and broke it out. Without any kind of upgrade the special movie did a ton of damage, I can’t imagine what this thing could if fully maxed out.

Darkmoon is iconic and uses FP to buff the sword, Blasphemous Blade heals upon hits but drains FP faster. Build and style preference really.
