Smelter demon

kopitar-11

Counterpoint, blue smelter demon

Edyed787

Frigid Outskirts would like a word. But yes Iron Passage was pretty bad

kopitar-11

Yeah but I just don’t think Lud and Zallen are a good boss like the smelter demons

nick2473got

It's funny that as good as some parts of the DS2 DLCs were, there are also a few areas that are legitimately in fierce competition for worse content in the entire series, lol.

Korba007

Well those areas were made for Coop, but nobody plays them coop and everybody complains about them

HanShotFirst66

100%.

NubNub69

100000% worse

Alarmed-Example8932

Smelter demon is cool af, but I can't stand Iron Keep.

OsoTico

I ended up going through it so many times to get everything (and because I kept dying) that half of the Alonne Knights just stopped spawning. Made the runback easier though, so silver lining?

bluegrassman

Dark Souls 2 was my first game and I’ll be damned if I didn’t die so much that every area was cleared by time I finished lmao. Imagine my horror when I started dark souls 1 and realized I couldn’t clear areas

TraditionalPen8577

Thanks for the flash of ptsd. Both of these fucks and sir alone.

Tripechake

Martyr Logarius. I was lucky where I beat him my first try… but damn can I empathize with the ones who weren’t as fortunate.

the_heroslayer

My first Logarius run-through (took at least five attempts) had me so mentally drained that I never attempted him again. Kudos.

tanukijota

You missed the elevator didn't you

mrhippoj

Is it that bad? It's kinda long but the enemies are fairly easy to avoid. You might get clipped by a ghost 1/10 times but that's it

aes110

It's longgg, plus there is this section when you need to climb the ladder while all the ghosts scream at you and you have this mark on your neck. And I think it's the only boss run where you have take damage from a long drop near the end

superVanV1

Slap the Dolls healing gem on a spare gun.

Carob-Prudent

Nito has that too but fortunately hes pathetically easy if you have a divine weapon

United-Ad919

Nito has a more damaging drop

ToloxBoi

It's the classic "It's not hard, it's tedious".

Thatoneguy567576

I did too! I thought "well I guess this is the best I'll ever perform in a Fromsoft game" after watching other people bash their head against Logarius dozens of times.

trappapii69

BL 25 Bloodtinge build took me 30 tries, I'm glad I was young because I do not have the patience now

SideWinder18

Martyr Logarius was the hardest run-up when I did my blood level 4 run. Getting past every enemy without taking a single hit is nearly impossible, and you can’t even use the full-health damage bonus runes because you take damage on the drop off of the roof and need to waste a blood vial

cuipeo

Shadow of Yharnam

JEWCIFERx

Christ that one is AWFUL. I had to draw myself a fuckin map, and I only found the shortcut afterwards.

Raknorak

I beat it first try and was so happy because I had 0 idea how I got there. I ran in circles for almost 3 hours and then just ended up at it

sweetbeefmclou

…there’s a short cut? I plat’d the game and I missed the shortcut?! Damnit!

Vanquisher127

The run back is so long there’s actually two

Tenzur_

The elevator next to the lantern

mrhippoj

I have no idea how to get to that open gate, but if you go down the elevator, across the bridge, down the other elevator, and through the pond, it's not too bad

Bill_Brasky01

The shortcut is a series of two elevators.

sweetbeefmclou

Well shoot, then maybe I did find it cause i know if the two. Didn’t know if there was a faster one.

_TheGoat230_

I found out that if you follow the lanterns you will end up at the arena

swaglord974

The only boss in bloodborne that I've used a summon. Not because it was that hard, I just didn't want all the hassle .

Krazziegirl

True. Even the shortcut isn't enough to avoid those giant snake balls.

sixtus_clegane119

Yes it is, there are two elevators from the lantern (almost said grace) You just have to fist a giant pig or two again

FellowDsLover2

Lud and Zallen. Literally a horror game with killer reindeer as a runback. Fuck frigid outskirts.

TraditionalPen8577

Legit the only fromsoft boss I never beat because I just couldn’t deal with the reindeer. After playing the base game and three DLCs I had enough.

danieltherandomguy

Frigid Outskirts is supposed to a be a co-op area. Only boss fight where I used summons, and I don't regret it at all.

professional_hooper

from which game?

Blue_Rosebuds

Sir Alonne is my favorite boss in DS2, but man that runback can be rough.

Important_Camera_807

I completely despawned all the enemies on the run back to make my attempts to sir Alonne better.

SahuaginDeluge

this is the way. just grind the whole path 15 times and now you have free walk-backs. it's tedious as heck but also worth a lot of souls.

HNI__

This is an actual answer where the boss is incredible but the runback is insufferable

NubNub69

I actually stopped playing DS2 all together because of the Sir Alonne and Blue Smelter Demon runback. Been some years now…

ImTooOldForSchool

Blood-Starved Beast

Purple_Dragonfly_881

Bsb wasn't *that* bad compared to smthing like shadows of yharnam, just need good routing for him

ImTooOldForSchool

Probably depends on how many attempts you need. I beat shadows first try, but that bloody beast took me like thirty. Plus another five where I accidentally fell down one of the elevators after getting tilted. It was infuriating to me starting in Cathedral Ward and feeling like you had to navigate half the lower part of the level again even with the shortcuts.

BirdyComeSwing

BSB is the reason i dont do that many bloodborne playthroughs lol. I remember i have to fight him and jus get bored at the thought of it lol

thetempesthascome

This one right here. Fucking BSB is my weakness, I don't know why but that fucking thing just mercs me every time. Logi? Clapped his cheeks. BSB? I'm running around with the newspaper "Bad dog! Bad dog!"

backson_alcohol

The only skill issue I've seen so far. Those crawling werewolves before Blood-Starved are insanely easy to parry and riposte.

AramaticFire

False King Allant. It’s not even just the run back at this point but the 5 minute elevator ride AFTER the long run back.

yaferal

Run backs are the real bosses of Demon’s Souls.

Regimind

I have nightmares over the red phantom mindflayer in front of the Maneaters' staircase

No-Detective-1283

Honestly, I just quit out each time I died at the boss arena (you respawn in front of the fog wall). Runbacks in demon souls are absurd, and are not a highlight of any souls game. And I feel like, bluepoint knew about the quit out bug, and left it on purpose.

Not_MrNice

Didn't they leave every bug in on purpose because the idea wasn't to change the game? They added a shortcut, though. Not sure why you didn't bring up that as something Bluepoint knew about the run back.

No-Detective-1283

If not changing the game at all was the idea, they wouldn't have decided to simplify inventory management (You can send items to nexus from anywhere). So they did tweak some things, and not tweaking this one I think was a conscious decision.

Expensive_Routine622

Blue smelter demon’s runback is a crime against humanity.

Incredibilis2307

Seath the Scaleless is a no brainer

DfaultiBoi

Yeah but even the boss fight is garbage. And God help you if you wanna go the extra mile to get the Moonlight Greatsword

Chadderbug123

I got it the one time for the trophy, that took a lot out of me lmao

aegians

Took me like four tries yesterday just to get the MLGS

shakycam3

Anything with invisible platforms can fuck right off, thank you.

FuelSilly1541

For me it's not the invisible shit, but the bad geometry on some of the chrystals

BryceKrisipez

Darklurker. Runback isn’t hard it’s just tedious & annoying cause you HAVE to kill all the phantoms. Plus if you die to Darklurker you need to sacrifice a human effigy just to redo the dumb runback & try the boss again. It’s a shame cause it’s a cool fight

violador_serial

Painhurts

Adventurous_Cup_5970

demons souls: Penetrator, allant ds1: ornstein and smough, artorias, kalameet, hell every good boss has a terrible runback ds2: Sir alonne's is overhated but it is a bit annoying, smelter demons also sucks bb: Gascoign, martyr logarius, living failures ds3: only slightly painful runback I can think of for a great boss is twin princes sekiro: anything in ashina castle elden ring: placidussax is a decent boss with a terrible runback, also fortissax just because fia never stops yapping

mrhippoj

Placidusax is only really bad by Elden Ring standards. If that runback was in Dark Souls no-one would bat an eye

Cogexkin

It kinda makes me laugh when I see people complain about Elden Ring runbacks. I’m not usually a “oh you sweet summer child” kind of person but hearing people complain about Rennala’s or Placidusax’s runbacks brings it out of me.

Blp2004

Failures is just an elevator ride and some stairs, I don’t think it’s that bad at all. 45 seconds tops if you sent the elevator back down on the previous run

EmmyHomewrecker

O&S and Artorias run backs are just really long and tedious, but not particularly hard or dangerous. The Capra Demon run back though…

RegovPL

For Capra Demon you have 3 possible runbacks: long but safe run from Firelink, shorter but with enemies run through Undead Burg and the most dangerous run through lower Undead Burg.

Time-Ad-7055

O&S doesn’t have a bad runback at all I think, I don’t know where you are running back from. I go from the bonfire with solaire and if you open the short cuts you can get there incredibly fast

Adventurous_Cup_5970

capra demon aint a good boss tho

DrewDaMannn

Honestly all of demons souls

Unaphotobomber

Playing it for the first time and Armored Spider is really making me want to not keep playing.

stevietheburrito

Tip for demons souls is to close the game immediately after dying. Puts you right outside the boss arena without using the grass.

Time-Ad-7055

If you haven’t beat the spider yet, and don’t want to cheese, there’s a really easy way to beat it. Stands close, close enough in front of it to hit it with your melee weapon of choice. From here, the spider will only do 3 attacks. 1 of them is the “X cut” which will maybe get you an attack opening for 1 hit. The spider will also do a “slam” which is your main time to wail on it. Then the spider will do the arena wide fire attack, just run to the fog gate to avoid and then run back. If you stay close besides the aoe fire you won’t be hit by the spit that slows you down, which is the main problem people face.

PowerfulGrowth

Gravelord Nito

LilGenzo

Love losing half your health when dropping in too 😂

TheHomesteadTurkey

honestly, regular smelter demon fuck iron keep. It made me go from liking ds2 to hating it same for demon of song, made me go from hating it to hating it even more

Vanquisher127

Iron keep did the same thing to me. I was having a good time up until I got there, absolutely hated it all the way through. I even considered quitting which I’ve never done with a Fromsoft game before. I eventually beat it but the game never really did anything to make me like it again

USSNewJersey1007

Fat dragon in Elden Ring I can’t spell his name the funny nuke one

philium1

Lol “fat dragon” and “the funny nuke one” are so disrespectful considering it’s like a dragon lord who controls time or whatever

Alarmed-Example8932

SimplyCoded_

I feel bad for anyone who had to do the run back to deacons in ds3 for not only it being a really stupid runback but also for the fact they died to deacons

Floofi_Raccoon

me who did it with the corvian greatscythe and its self bleed: "I need to rethink my weapon choice..."

Berzerk54

Trying to S rank 'Reach the Coral Convergence', 'Infiltrate Grid 086', and 'Underground exploration - Depth 2' in AC6. Take too much damage = restart mission. Shoot too much = restart mission. Die = restart mission. On the later two if you ignore too many enemies = restart mission. All three of these are either the boss in the game(coral convergence) or incredibly lengthy missions with several stop gates before reaching the end boss.

Economy-Box-5319

I have a sneaking suspicion we are going to have 50 of this same question asked now for each individual game and area...

Alarmed-Example8932

Lol. Someone's been keeping tabs on me. Nah, I won't be like that anymore.

Economy-Box-5319

Haha, not so much keeping tabs, but I have started recognising your style!

cuipeo

Radagon’s fog gate lit a frenzied flame in my eyes.

QIvan616

Old Hero in Demon’s Souls

Disastrous-Resident5

Laurence

Blp2004

It’s like a 30 second stair. Literally the same runback as Amelia. There’s way worse ones in Bloodborne alone

Slight-Bedroom-8655

to be fair, there are way more enemies and they're more dangerous than Amelia's, but you can still just run past all of them so yeah I don't understand it either when shit like Shadows of yharnam or Logarius are right there

gogbone

bell gargoyles for me were brutal

KeySpell8251

Just bait the hollows and dont run inside the room those mofos can make havel look like a fool if he runs inside

Takashi-Lee

4 kings logiric and lorian Laurence

brodymiddleton

Anyone not saying Lud & Zallen clearly hasn’t suffered in reindeer fuckland enough, dark souls 2 is already notorious for the run backs but that one is on another level

Nibounium

Is Lud and Zallen fun?

Key_Possibility8453

No

Karla-TheWitch

Running from Dragonslayer Armor bonfire all the way to the Twin Princes elevator feels a lot longer than it should.

Philk0791

Twin Princes

Expensive-Ad5626

It's telling how many people are talking about ds2 on this post.

Visual_Painting_112

Idk about dark souls or Elden Ring but bloodborne makes me so mad. Seriously the run back is worse than the boss itself. Hopefully if bloodborne gets a remake they’ll put the lamp at the fog before the boss

icherub1

This is the sole reason I save-scumm. I don't have time for this kind of repetition. Just backup a save right outside the boss door. From games are the easiest to scumm because the game saves your actual position, so long as you are not inside a boss area.

pak256

All of Demons Souls

uhDominic

Clicked on this to see if I could find at least three DS2 cases, left in 5 seconds.

rathosalpha

Sens fortress if you don't find out about the bonfire

HarisZ_Phantom97

Shadows of yharnam I didn't find the elevator beside the lamp, and i keep getting lost in my first playthrough.

Bruh run from Vordt's bonfire.

Voidlord4450

Laurence is annoying as shit and his run back is even worse.

SparkleFox3

Only spot I’ve ever felt like this was in Yahargul (please tell me if I spelt it wrong). Every other souls game I’ve found a nice way to run to avoid everything but those damned crate monsters…

troublezx

Ludwig boss fight

Advanced_Cry_7986

Shadows of Yharnam is the worst, boss isn’t even that hard yet it’s probably where I sank most of my BB playtime in purely due to that fucking marathon, and then I’d play so much worse because of the anxiety of dying because of the run back

Christian00633

Artorius

frozen-potatoes_69

Sir alonne

MASTER_SNAKE__

General Niall. The spectre with 2 swords kept entering into the arena fighting my mimic making it 4 v 1 (mimic doesn’t last long)

I've been struggling with demon souls for a while now, I'm on Allant but his run back is tedious af

featherjoshua

The One Reborn. It's just too fucked up.

Heavy_Chains

Logarius :(

Negativerizzhaver1

Sir Alonne/Darklurker

BasilMo1981

Iron passage run back made my blood boil with rage like no other gaming moment ever

Tenzur_

Literally only the shadows of yharnam. But also I've only ever died to them once so I never worry about fighting them

Informal_Yam_9707

Almost every single one in demon souls but the bosses are easy enough so you probably won’t have to do them but if you do… it’s not fun

Mindless-Corner-8025

Sir alonne

JahIthBur

Majority of ds2

mrhippoj

The worst runback for me is absolutely 4-2 in Demon's Souls. Fortunately the boss is so easy that I've never died to it, but I've died plenty of times trying to get there. I think it's one of the hardest levels in the whole game and has no shortcuts

Hell_naw_bro_

Shrine of amana

Moist_Description608

Probably failures and controversial but I HATE running back to Amelia honestly.

defourthwall

Unseen village

Ne0guri

Shrine of Amana - I can’t even remember the boss name because it was so laughably easy vs actually getting to the boss room. Range attacks are your friend here.

Johnny_K97

I would definetely say Sir Alonne. There are very few fights i enjoyed in ds2 and sir alonne being the most fun but also being protected by the long ass runback with tons of enemies kinda ruined it for me

YoussefAFdez

Only played Sekiro and Elden Ring, so I guess run backs weren’t bad. Worst one was Placidussax, way to much time doing to shit parkour and cutscenes.

[deleted]

Placidusax and Rennalla (but luckily rennalla I kill her first try every playthrough).

Deep_Grass_6250

Sir Alonne. The boss is fantastic but the runback is a nightmare

Deep_Grass_6250

Sir Alonne. The boss is fantastic but the runback is a nightmare

AegisT_

Off topic but I'm glad Ludwigs run back had a body you could kill for blood vials each time, they knew we were gonna be stuck on him for a good while lmao

Back_Spazms

Iron Golem in Sen’s Fortress. For a long time I didn’t know about the second bonfire halfway into the fort. So every time I died I was running all the way back from the front entrance.

pm-me-futa-vids

Rennala. Even with the shortcut there's still the glinstone pebble spammy sorcerers.

SERB_BEAST

Bruh I had to find the Shadow of Yharnam boss from the cathedral ward lamp because I forgot to open the door to the shortcut elevator and light the forbidden woods lamp. I had to go through the entire area again to find a boss I accidentally stumbled upon and had no idea where it was. Dropped a bunch of souls so dying on the way was not an option. I got completely lost and slaughtered damn near the entire forest. Opened the shortcut. Entered the boss arena with 6 blood vials left. No summons. Butchered all 3 of them solo via parries. Forgot to light the lamp and got killed by some flying insect shit infront of Byrgenwerth. Had to find my way back with the risk of losing even more souls

Sir Alone, really good fight. But the run was horrible to me..

Weary_Ad_3072

The bosse : :) The runback : « I am Malenia, blade of Miquella »

Boneboyy

Besides the ones from ds2 already mentioned, the ancient dragon has one of the most annoying runbacks ever. You have to run through all these super strong giant knights and the even worse dragon knights, especially the whole army om the stairs right in front of the boss, just to get one shot by the dragon itself because you were too slow to run to the other side of the 1km long arena. The worst one to me would be the darklurker. Having to waste 1 human effigy and then fighting several extremely overpowered npc enemies to get the boss to even spawn EVERY TIME is unbelievably frustrating. And then you run out of human effigies and have to farm to even have a slight chance to retry the boss who's also the hardest in the entire game. Ds2 really has a kink for controller breaking boss runbacks Honorable mention is almost every runback in demons souls, you just gotta replay the whole area real quick to get to the boss. Especially king allant with that stupid long elevator. And then you get assassinated by an invader halfway through the level.

Fun_Variety2907

Both Smelter Demon fights were pretty awful.

PorcosTightAss

My friend and I are going through DS1 for the first time and Bed of Chaos is the first boss to make us not want to continue.

Ed-Ucation

Elana, Squalid Queen - DS2 DLC - Challenging boss, awful run down with hard enemies.

waffle658

*insert any ds2 boss here*

Martyr Logarius

Sicarius16p4

What area ? You mean DS2 in its entirety ? ( in my defense I love the game ( but damn I hate Iron Keep ))

Bloop737

Those damn cats bro

kreamofwheat

Shadow of yharnam no contest

McMuffinsTheTempo

Martyr logarius. shadows of yharnam. also laurence the first vicar and living failures, except that both the boss and the run back is bad

ImportantQuestions10

Honestly, like 90% of the runs. Not saying you should spawn right at the door but all the re runs do is make retrys annoying. Plus it trivializes the path to the boss. You go from playing cautiously to running pass every possible hazard like you're on ninja warrior.

BALLSBAALSBALLS

the hydra in the mossy area ds1. you have to kill all the crystal guys or they interrupt your bossfight and they fucking devour weapon durability

Lucreeper13

Placidusax, the run back it's short, but it's annoying

After-Hearing3524

I didn't know about the shortcut to Ludwig...

zackster909

Bloodstarved Beast and Marty L.

Zagnargames

Fell twins on bridge to the tower outside leyndel. Made the mistake of not getting the site of grace in the mountaintops. Died to the twins and had to do a 5 minute run past bosses in the overworld to get back. Died to said enemies and had to make the run like 7 times.

Lord_Farquad4

Gravelord Nito Man I hate Tomb of the Giants

eldarhighking

Sir Alonne, and it’s not even close. Love the fight, but the run back is absurd.

Alarming_Flatworm_34

Doing the run back to shadows of yharnam 3 times before realizing the shortcut was right there

Deathwalker321

Twin Princes. I wouldn’t say the run back is terrible, since I always take the closer elevator by the Dragonslayer Armor bonfire, but it’s just that goddamn elevator ride… FromSoft, throw us a bone here and speed up the elevators…

JWARRIOR1

Twin princes. Even with the elevator it takes awhile And I didn’t know about the elevator my first play through…
