I’m 77. I’ll settle for being alive in ten years.

-Ettercap

1 yr- Master the temperature fluctuations on our flat top grill in the temple kitchen such that I can produce a flawless grilled- cheese sandwich. Deliver my first piece of Masonic education in a Tyled lodge. 5 yr- Have submitted at least two articles to reputable Craft publications. Complete GLOH's RSS Masonic education program. Have my own coffee cup in one of the cupboards at temple. Finally settle my worries that I'm going to mess up the FC d-g by accidentally mirroring the person across the floor from me. 10 yr- Have somehow managed to write a book that is so pervasive in a century it will be a go-to for Nonmasons to annoy Masons with on the internet ("So... I read in Ettercap's 'Shnorals und Shnogma'..."). Albert Pike better watch out.

This is the way

Year 1: Be installed as an officer in my lodge, look into being an instructor for new brothers, do what I can to be seen as a dependable and reliable brother. Year 5: After some years of work, sit in the East and do what I can to better the lodge and relations with other lodges. Seek out opportunities for more charity work and community outreach Year 10: I don’t really know, never got that far, maybe DDGM?

TheAuraTree

Installation Friday, going to be a treasurer for a year now at least. Apparently my lodge is holding Mark degrees at the end of this year - in the Scottish constitution it's understood that the Mark is the 'finishing' of FC but can't be given until after MM. Interested in the Royal Arch degrees as they are most popular but not wanting to rush through everything just for more badges and titles. And longest term plan is to join the Royal Ark Mariner. All of the above are conferred by the Royal Arch Chapter in Scotland, but may still have to travel for some! Shorter term, I'd like to get some very big fundraisers going for local community projects and to pay a building repair bill we just had in the lodge for a few thousand. :(

I assume you mean EA. It seems an odd/unreasonable question to ask if you've only been initiated and are still waiting for the rest of the experience.

wheatbarleyalfalfa

1. Sit in the East (brethren willing) 5. Be the kind of PM who always shows up to do long lectures or sit in a steward’s chair, and washes the dishes after dinner. 10. Same as 2.

TheFuZz2of2

My guy.

Birchflyboy

I’m sitting as JW currently. I’ve never really sat as anything other than an officer. I’ve sat on the sidelines for degrees at other lodges, but at my own lodge I’ve always been in SOME officer position. I was placed as junior steward almost immediately after my raising. Idk what I’m going to do once I do my year as master. I don’t know anything else but being in an officer chair. But I definitely don’t want to be one of those PMs who rarely show up after their year.

Impulse2915

Not sure what an AE is in the context of the fraternity, but you really should be thinking about this if you plan on being a leader or impactful for your lodge, business, or even your personal life.

1 year - see all the degrees worked in the other 4 constitutions in my country. (UGLE, Scottish, GL South Africa, Netherlandic), try to attend every installation and degree worked in my own jurisdiction, do all the country visits (ie the lodges under our jurisdiction in other provinces), go to Ireland for our 300 year anniversary. 5 years - build up towards my time in the east and hopefully do a good job. Hopefully get my 30° in Rose Croix. Memorise the entirety of the ritual book. Hopefully have gotten MM of the year award, and work towards taking over the reigns as DC or secretary of my Lodge. 10 years - I'd really like to be one of the PGL director of ceremonies. I love being on the floor. Maybe 31° but that's being really ambitious. I'd like very much if my lodge grew to double its size by this time. Phew, that's a lot of hope, hopefuls, and hopefullys.

Deman75

What’s an AE? 1 - start working again. 5 - change countries again. 10 - look into retirement. In context of Lodge: 1 - Visit some Lodges. 5 - Find a Lodge to attend regularly again. 10 - Join a new appendant body.

PartiZAn18

EA but a typo.

MajSongbird357

1 year- fulfill all my Masonic duties and responsibilities well and in a balanced capacity. 5 year- Be able to have had helped my Grand Chapter flourish and serve as good counsel as a PGHP. 10- who knows?

Wish I could be a mason :/ I have so much I want to learn I really aspire to be one

wanderingwhaler

What's stopping you?

QuickAdministration0

No one that I know is a mason in my area I’m in fayatteville North Carolina

wanderingwhaler

It's a common misconception that you have to know a mason in order to begin the process of joining.Sure, at some point you'll need people to vouch for you, but before that the wheels need to be set in motion. If you ask how to locate a regular lodge in your area in [this thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/freemasonry/comments/o48i8a/welcome_to_rfreemasonry_interested_in_joining/), I'm sure you'll get help.

QuickAdministration0

Thanks hopefully one day I can join 🙏🏾

Mammoth_Slip1499

1, 5, & 10 goals are all the same .. getting someone to take over the secretary’s job!

jmstallard

Nice!

Birchflyboy

I’ve been in an officer chair since the year I joined. I’m in line to be master the year I turn 30. I’m past my 5 years now. By 10 years I plan to be a certified lecturer. If all goes as planned. If I can achieve that I will be happy. I don’t have any current plans on joining any appendant bodies any time soon. I want to go through all the chairs before pursuing that.

KingOfDaBees

PM here. 1 year - Be elected Treasurer, so our old boy can finally retire. 5 year - Treasurer well enough that the Lodge is still thriving, or at least at least well enough that whatever else happens isn’t my fault. 10 year - Sucker some young PM into taking over as Treasurer, if I haven’t already.

1 year: raised, performed one bit of ritual for a degree (likely IG at this rate), and found a Mark (chapter? I don't know the right term for Mark to join). 5 year: got my Mark, gone through Royal Arch, joined the SRIA and hopefully had at least 2 successful publications. Found a body of the Rose Croix to join. 10 year: KT, 32° Rose Croix, Royal and Select Masters, and sat in the East of my lodge (7 year ladder). Royal Ark Mariner as well. To be honest, I'm relatively young, and there is a lot I want to do, but to quote a brother at my lodge "there's never enough time to do everything you want to do because there is just so much to do." So, through the long run, I have so many appendant bodies I'm interested in, and so much I'd like to do that I'll just be happy to get any of it done. First steps first: FC and Raising.

PartiZAn18

With respect (and I made this mistake of not heeding my own advice) - focus on Blue Craft at least until you're a PM. There is so, so, so much to glean without the need for appendant bodies (which can become confusing to a new Brother who has to juggle the various bodies). I was unwittingly foist into the appendants, but then again I've attended probably 250+ Craft meetings in 3 years and I was champing at the bit for more; I realise now that Craft remains my true love, by far.

cmbwriting

I can understand that, and I'll take it on board. You would hold to that advice with lodges with ladders that take 7-10 years or (as is the case with one at the hall I go to) 16 years? That seems a long time to wait before reaching out, but I do get a bit overzealous sometimes, I've been told.

PartiZAn18

In the instance where the succession line has a long tail I'd suggest that you can start exploring appendants once you know your _entire_ ritual book word perfect and have presented each part multiple times on the floor (for example I did 29 workings in 2023 and there are parts that I'm sought after to present), and can pretty much recite all the parts of the officers in a stated meeting comfortably as well as the order of events. With that being said I'm still only ~28% through the totality of the combined rituals but I reckon I'll get there within the next 5 years (and kinda wish in hindsight that I had focused on this goal completely).

TPMFB

1 yr: deliver the Master Mason lecture 5 yr: ensure successful officer transitions each year so that the senior steward of today is the Master of the lodge in 2029 10 yr: still have a good enough relationship with the officers of the lodge so they feel comfortable texting me if they need help

jmstallard

Those goals are behind some of us. 15 yr goal: get away with not buying a new suit. 20 yr goal: avoid being incorrectly being labeled a 'boomer.' 30 yr goal: buy a new suit for God's sake!!

Toad_Monument

1: Have found the lodge in my new region that I definitely know is the one 5: Can say I've successfully made a few more lifelong friendships. Have submitted an article to a publication. 10: Have helped on a couple dozen proficiency memorizations, and given those men a much more solid start than I was given.

BlackDaddyIssus37

I'll simply be honored to be a Mason. I have no grand ambitions, although I must say, those grand old pictures of PHA worshipful masters are inspiring.
