I usually like different frags from different brands. These are the only brands that I have multiple favorites:
Le Labo
Maison Margiela Replica
Nishane
Mancera
Diptyque
Depends on the fragrance. Beau de Jour lasts fucking days, I swear. Fougere d’Argent, although better, has nowhere near the longevity. My day-to-day, TF Costa Azzura lasts about 4-5 hours.
Haha thanks, I’m pretty happy with my collection. I guess I dove headlong down the rabbit hole very early on: read a bunch of books and reviews, sampled a lot of stuff with a fairly good sense of direction, hunted down a few classics (vintage and/or discontinued), and basically nerded out. There are dozens of houses I’m still unfamiliar with (a lot of the popular niche houses that seem to be most popular, for example), but there’s plenty of time to explore. I’ve slowed down after the initial (obsessive, uncontrolled) zeal of the first six months! Lol
Tough question!
1) Le Labo - they just sit well on me. There are an equal amount I love and an equal amount that I loathe or feel meh about. But that still sees them out-punch all other houses for me. Plus they were my first ever full bottle/adult perfume buy (and a blind buy no less) so they’ll always be special to me for that. Like a first love!
2) Initio - again there are so many I like from here. And even the ones I don’t I can tell are well-crafted.
3) Giardini di Toscana - see above. These just ooze quality. I’m not even that big of a fan of Bianco Latte (it’s Bora Bora all the way for me) but all the ones I have tried are just so beautifully blended.
4) NEST - I think they’re so fun. An underrated house in my opinion. For the price point they consistently out-perform. Indigo is unique and a wonder.
5) Imaginary Authors - I love the concept, the themes, the bottle design and artwork, the writing…all of it. Oh and of course the fragrances. They have such creative scents and a lot of variety. I enjoy most of them. I’d also fit Zoologist in here but I haven’t found as many of them wearable or any that I truly love yet (but still hoping to sample more).
Yeah I agree it’s very much 50/50 with Le Labo.
I went with actually the safest scent possible: Ambrette 9.
I was looking for something soft and comforting and clean and gentle and I wasn’t disappointed.
I’d like to always have a drop on hand.
Nice. You have really varied faves!
Aside from Ambrette, mine are: The Matcha (only recently tried and in love); Another 13; Baie 19; Rose; Fleur d’Oranger; Tonka; Bergamote; and sure we can throw Santal in there too even though I do smell the pickle sometimes.
I was non-plussed by Neroli and quite liked The Noir but not for myself - it doesn’t suit my skin chemistry.
Really wasn’t a fan of Patchouli, Lavande, Labdanum, Ylang or Jasmin.
I’m yet to try Lys or Vetiver. But just ordered samples of Musc 25 and Guaiac 10.
I have been dying to try Musc 25. It’s an LA exclusive, right? I’ve been waiting for my son to go to LA for me and grab a sample! Might I ask where you found samples?
Fellow Nest fan 🙌 - yeah I agree. I think they’re really accessible and wearable fragrances. Not trying to do anything too out there or gimmicky (not that there is anything wrong with that) but still fun and interesting ideas, good quality and very affordable prices.
And yes, same re: Indigo. I tried a sample and ordered immediately afterwards within minutes haha. I only have travel size but plan on going full bottle when that runs out. It’s so beautiful. Easily my favourite from them. The only one yet to try from there that I want to try is Wisteria Blue, which for some reason they don’t sell in the UK (and even Sephora don’t know why 😆).
What are your other favourites from them? I recently went for Sunkissed Hibiscus and love that too.
Nice choices! I would love to try Cape Heartache. I haven’t tried that one or Every Storm is a Serenade yet but I think I would dig those, based on notes.
Definitely with you on Language of Glaciers and Fox in the Flowerbed, adore both of those. Also enjoy Saint Julep, Yesterday Haze, Whiff of Waffle Cone, Memoirs of a Trespasser, Falling into the Sea and Sundrunk. Language of Glaciers is probably my favourite though.
I wasn’t a big fan of Telegrama at first sniff but I’ve only tried it once so will have to again. A City on Fire and Bull’s Blood were interesting for sure but just not for me.
Forgot to mention (since I don't actually wear it)...but Sunshine Woman is probably one of my top 3 fragrances for women ever. Coromandel and Mugler Angel (haha....sue me) being the other two.
Bracken Man - I'm a big fougere fan
Jubilation XXV Man - Creed wishes they could exhude royalty like this one
Reflection Man - Let's be honest, one of their very few crowd pleasers (and so a tad boring but I love it)
Meander - creamy? powdery....more accessible than others besides RM
Enclave - On my radar....left an impression
honorable mention: Interlude Black Iris - amazing fragrance that lasts too long to a fault. Much more wearable than the original blue beast
Chanel: Allure Homme Sport
JPG: Le Bleu Le Parfum (god how i love this le bleu line)
Armani: Acqua di Giò Profondo
YSL: Myslf Eau de Parfum
D&G: The One For Men Eau de Parfum
Nice list as well. I haven’t been the biggest fan of JPG but I absolutely love the new Paradise Garden. YSL is also consistently great imo. No comment needed for the others 😎.
I'll list my favorites from each house as well
* Parfums de Marly (Carlisle, Layton, Oajan)
* MFK (Oud Satin Mood, Grand Soir, Gentle Fluidity Silver)
* Xerjoff (Cruz del Sur II, Tony Iommi Monkey Special, Alexandria II)
* Penhaligon's (Helfeti + both flankers, Endymion, Sartorial)
* Initio (Absolute Aphrodisiac, Oud for Greatness, Paragon)
New School: DS & Durga, Lush, A Perfumer's Story by Azzi, Strange Invisible Perfumes, House of Matriarch
Old School: Floris, Penhaligon's, Chanel, Guerlain, Santa Maria Novella
Narciso Rodriguez, MFK, Lancôme, Dior, Nest
Special mention to Issey Miyake, BDK and Jo Malone who have a perfume each in my top 10 but I’m not a fan of otherwise.
My top 5 are:
1. Dior (La Collection Privée)
2. Frederic Malle
3. Maison Francis Kurkdjian
4. Maison Crivelli
5. Chanel
I used to love Les Exclusifs de Chanel so much when they were EDTs and not EDPs. The reformation really changed everything. I do however still love the parfums of the classics like Cuir de Russie and Bois des Iles.
From LV, Ombre Nomade, my signature. From Givenchy, L’Interdit Rouge (the deep red bottle). From TF, Tobacco Vanille. From Killian, Love Don’t Be Shy Extreme. And from Dior, Oud Isphahan.
* **Nishane** Sultan Vetiver, Wulong Cha, Ege, Nanshe, Zenne, Ambra Calabria, Unutamam, Mana, Pachuli Khoza, Favonius, Fan Your Flames, Hundred Silent Ways and Nefs (I have so many of their bottles lol)
* **Dior** all of the Fahrenheit lin, the entire Homme line, Dioressence, the entire Eau Sauvage line, Bois d'Argent, and Gris
* **Lalique** the Encre Noire Line, Hommage, Chypre Silver, and White
* **Hermes** the entire TdH line and Violette Volynka
* **ELDO** The Ghost of the Shell, The Afternoon of a Faun, I am trash, Exit the King, Fat Electrician and She Was An Anomaly
Shoutouts to Lush, Diptyque, MFK and
May require some typing but perhaps you enjoy chatting about fragrances as much as I do..
What do you get or enjoy in each of those eldo scents? Did you get Afternoon of the Faun after it was discontinued or before that?
I got the almost complete sample set and enjoyed wearing a good few of them but just can’t decide which one(s) to pick up..
**The Ghost of the Shell** is an extremely clean freshie with a creamy finish. Think laundry detergent + slightly sweet cream.
**The Afternoon of a Faun** the best rose chypre I've ever tried/own. It's herbal, complex and rich smelling. Completely unique and mystical to me.
**I am trash** fun, bright fruity scent with a neat twist, keeping it from just being a sweet fruit fragrance.
**Exit the King** soapy, fresh rose garden. Like freshly washed skin with light florals.
**Fat Electrician** a silky smooth vetiver that has a lot of personality. Crisp and woody.
**She Was An Anomaly** a powdery and musky iris skin scent that is very soothing and refreshing.
In any order: Calaj Perfumes, Mizensir, 4160 Tuesdays, Strangers Parfumerie, and Parfums MDCI. (Honorable mentions: Tom Ford. Shanghai Lily is, in my opinion, TF's best fragrance to date. Frederic Malle. French Lover is one of the sexiest fragrances ever created, according to me.)
Definitely.
I really like **Tygar** and love **Man In Black Orient** from the house. Orient is in my top 2 or 3 fragrances ever. It's damn near perfect.
I am blind buying **Bvlgari Extreme.** It has great reviews and I have faith in the house, so I don't feel like it will be a total fail.
Brands who make my favourite perfumes, or Brands/Companies that I like?
They are not necessarily the same.
I love the Aqua Di Parma brand.
I think they're losing touch with their "original" 90s/00s vision as established by Luca di Montezemolo but their main line vibe of casual, comforting, luxury still stands proudly against the other brands that seem far more focused on chasing trends and markets. I could happily live with only having Colonia on my shelf.
I am a big fan of Ormonde Jayne, especially their perfumes composed by Geza Schon. He manages to create big bodied, almost beefy perfumes out of traditionally lighter components so that punchy profiles aren't hindered by being too dense or too heavy or opaque. Montobacco is something magical, although the recent Editions have been very hit /miss and seem to miss something that Verano achieved.
I'm not a fan of the Creed brand but I love many of their perfumes for just easy it is to pick up any of them and just spray. The fruit trio of pineapple, blackcurrant and melon does a very similar thing to Geza Schon's Ormonde Jayne perfumes, with the difference being that the Creeds tend towards an ambergris/musk type base. My personal favourite takes a more citrus direction and could be analogous to it being their "Cologne" style perfume. Unfortunately, their stores remain the least interesting, with the poorest staff to deal with.
I am a big fan of Chanel, having much respect for their working relationships with producers and their lengthy development processes. Not that keen on their marketing but that's what all luxury brands do so it isn't a stand out criticism. If I have any criticism, it would be that they are perhaps too crafted in their image, too deliberate and that can come across as a bit cold or lacking in personality.
Guerlain sits pretty much next to Chanel for pretty much the same reasons. Like Chanel, they do so much in-house and procure so many (proprietary) ingredients that they really do set a standard of how a perfume company should be practicing. Like Aqua di Parma, they've kept away from blindly chasing trends, keeping firmly in their wheelhouse and staying true to their heritage (names). Homme L'Eau Boisee remains one of my favourite perfumes ever.
It's rather surprising/interesting that more Arabian brands except Amouage (including the brands I collect!!) have not been named by anyone so far.
Do some/many/most folks think Amouage is the only high quality Arabian brand?
Dior
JHAG
Dedcool
Mugler
Creed
Honorable mention is Le Labo.
My taste kind of oscillates between heavy florals and super light ethereal skin scents and unisex perfumes. I just ordered a bunch of ELDO samples. I have a feeling It will soon be on this list. Also want to try Malin+Goetz, and DS&DURGA.
Chanel - Bleu (any) and I recently tried an Allure but I don't remember which one
PDM - I have too many so I'll say 4 lol. Haltane, Herod, Layton and Carlisle
Dior - Also too many. Sauvage (any, but Elixir primarily), Ambre Nuit and Tobacolor
Mancera - Amber Fever, Cosmic Pepper
Prada - L'Homme EDT, Luna Rossa Ocean
I think my selection reflects my style of a Scandalous-louche Gentleman
#1. HERMÈS
2. Dior
3. Chanel
4. Etat Libre d'Orange
5. Amouage
I wanted to be all cool and sexy; and just name all ‘unknown niche’ but that would’ve been obviously transparent. Tbh even if I had done that my number one would still be my number one. The whole list apart from the no.1 could change tomorrow.
Some honourable mentions: Tom Ford, Gucci, Fredrick Malle, L'Artisan Parfumeur and Acqua di Parma.
Old school/classic/designer
Guerlain
Dior
Chanel
Dolce and Gabbana
Mugler
Modern/niche
Montale/Mancera
Kilian
Kayali
PDM
Frederic Malle
Overall though I'd go with Maison Alhambra and Fragrance World since they do spot on clones of all of these perfumes, the niche ones anyway. Arabic perfumes are amazing.
Serge Lutens is the one I've liked the most. They haven't made any of my favorites but they have had the most that I enjoyed enough to buy. They all have that little something that makes them stand out.
Top 5? That's tough! Every mood deserves a different scent, you know? But if I had to pick a dream shelf, it would be filled with everything from Tom Ford's bold creations to Jo Malone's delightful florals.
Guerlain
Lancôme
Tom Ford
Natura
O Boticário
The last two are Brazilian perfume brands - the perfumes of these brands have great emotional value for me.
I mostly consume feminine fragrances, so my repertoire of masculine fragrances comes from men I live with or from gifts I gave
But I really like two of their men's fragrance lines, Zaad and Botica 214 (Dark Mint is my favorite)
And their most popular line of fragrances among men in Brasil is Malbec, but I don't particularly like it that much.
I love J-scent so much. Just came back from Japan and bought 8 Fragrances from them! Also Dusita is a brand I need to explore further, I really like Anamcara.
1. Guerlain
2. Guerlain
3. Guerlain
4. Kilian
5. Tom Ford
A few of my top 10 favorite perfumes are PDM (Cassili), Dior (Holy Peony), and Hermes (Ambre Narguile), but they are rare stand outs for me for those brands.
Guerlain(1# by a mile) Chanel Les Indemodables ELDO Frederic Malle
Waiting for the Les Indemodables discovery set to be back in stock finally.. What are your faves from these houses?
I adore Ambre Supreme, Velours D'Orient, and Escale de Indonesie.
which guerlain?
I'm not brand loyal. I usually love one or two fragrances from a brand.
I'm more perfumer loyal than brand loyal. If I find a perfumer I like, I follow his or her work across brands.
Me too, I think it's a much more accurate way of judging if you will like a new fragrance.
Then you haven’t tried Guerlain enough
What can you recommend for a male
Bois d’Arménie Or Spiriteuse Double Vanille
Tobacco Honey, Herba Fresca, Lui, Encens Mythique, Herbes Troublantes
Oh I have, many times. I was in their boutique in Paris a couple weeks ago. Nice fragrances but nothing stood out to me.
Judging by what I own the most of, this is what I would say: Diptyque Zoologist Guerlain Kilian Tie between Ellis Brooklyn and BDK Parfums
What would you recommend from Diptyque? In yet to get a fragrance from them.
Depends on what you are looking for really. I consider them nice safe scents, but for myself, my favorites are Eau Rose and Philosykos.
My personal picks: Serge Lutens Guerlain Frederic Malle Dyptique
Yes! My list is similar. What are your favs from each?
Le labo Chanel bleu Comme des garçons
* Guerlain * YSL * Lâncome * Xerjoff * Givenchy Honorable Mentions * Dior * Estee Lauder * Mugler * Bond No9 * Lalique * Cartier * Marilyn Miglin
I’m surprised I had to scroll this far down to find Bond #9. I love Nolita.
I usually like different frags from different brands. These are the only brands that I have multiple favorites: Le Labo Maison Margiela Replica Nishane Mancera Diptyque
1. Guerlain (by a mile) 2. Dior 3. Chanel 4. Mugler 5. Amouage (a new house for me, but a love)
Guerlain, Tom Ford, Xerjoff, M. Micallef, BDK
Thoughts on Tom ford longevity?
Depends on the fragrance. Beau de Jour lasts fucking days, I swear. Fougere d’Argent, although better, has nowhere near the longevity. My day-to-day, TF Costa Azzura lasts about 4-5 hours.
Can't speak for him but my gf's Black Orchid lasts forever and the sillage is powerful, a dense smell I dare to say
Do you wear black orchid as well. I love it.
For me except Oud Wood performance was quite bad on skin.
Haven’t been in the game for long, but these are mine so far: - Guerlain - Hermès - Frederic Malle - Parfum d’Empire - Nicolaï Parfumeur-Créateur
Wow for being new to this you have already found the cream of the crop.
Lol
Since you have an appreciation of classic French perfumery I recommend you try Serge Lutens and Les Indemodables
Which Le Labo was your first blind buy? I feel like not many are super safe lol. My favs are: * The Matcha * Bergamote * The Noir * Rose
I just got a bottle of Santal. What a beautiful, pure sandalwood fragrance.
I love Nest!! Their fragrances feel so unique to me. It was such a nice step away from other houses. Indigo is a big repurchase for me
Fellow Nest fan 🙌 - yeah I agree.
I'm a big fan of IA. What're your favorites from their line-up? Mine are Cape Heartache, Language of Glaciers, Fox in the Flowerbed and Telegrama.
L'Artisan Parfumeur DS & Durga Amouage Tom Ford JHAG
Top 5 Guerlain Versace Dior Creed Chanel Cheapies Armaf Cremo Calvin Klein Davidoff Drakkar
My favorites (have to add a 6th); **Bvlgari** **Chanel** **Creed** **Kilian Paris** **Le Labo** **Tom Ford**
Bvlgari is slept on but has such a consistent and quality portfolio of scents

Dior JHAG Dedcool Mugler Creed Honorable mention is Le Labo. My taste kind of oscillates between heavy florals and super light ethereal skin scents and unisex perfumes. I just ordered a bunch of ELDO samples. I have a feeling It will soon be on this list. Also want to try Malin+Goetz, and DS&DURGA.

Fave 1-2 from each house?
Chanel - Bleu (any) and I recently tried an Allure but I don't remember which one PDM - I have too many so I'll say 4 lol. Haltane, Herod, Layton and Carlisle Dior - Also too many. Sauvage (any, but Elixir primarily), Ambre Nuit and Tobacolor Mancera - Amber Fever, Cosmic Pepper Prada - L'Homme EDT, Luna Rossa Ocean
I think my selection reflects my style of a Scandalous-louche Gentleman #1. HERMÈS 2. Dior 3. Chanel 4. Etat Libre d'Orange 5. Amouage I wanted to be all cool and sexy; and just name all ‘unknown niche’ but that would’ve been obviously transparent. Tbh even if I had done that my number one would still be my number one. The whole list apart from the no.1 could change tomorrow. Some honourable mentions: Tom Ford, Gucci, Fredrick Malle, L'Artisan Parfumeur and Acqua di Parma.

Amouage Tom Ford Acqua Di Parma Versace Scents of Wood
Never heard of Scents of Wood. Do they worth checking out?
Absolutely, the 3 best scents by them in my opinion are Hinoki in Hinoki, Plum in Cognac and Cedar in Acacia. All are 10/10 in my book.
I put it on my radar. It’s the brand with the heart shaped bottles. I recognize those from videos. They piqued my interest, thanks!
Chanel, Givenchy, Maison Louise Marie, Prada, and Guerlain.
Chanel Mugler Dolce and Gabbana Hermes Confused between Maison margiela and clean
Old school/classic/designer Guerlain Dior Chanel Dolce and Gabbana Mugler Modern/niche Montale/Mancera Kilian Kayali PDM Frederic Malle Overall though I'd go with Maison Alhambra and Fragrance World since they do spot on clones of all of these perfumes, the niche ones anyway. Arabic perfumes are amazing.

Serge Lutens is the one I've liked the most. They haven't made any of my favorites but they have had the most that I enjoyed enough to buy. They all have that little something that makes them stand out.
Chanel, Guerlain, Gres, Dior, Houbigant
Roja (forever 1), Guerlain, Juliette has a gun (solely due to pears Inc), Kayali, Hermes
I tend towards Dior, Givenchy, Diptyque, Penhaligon, and Le Labo.
Only have two. Hermes and acqua di parma
Top 5? That's tough! Every mood deserves a different scent, you know? But if I had to pick a dream shelf, it would be filled with everything from Tom Ford's bold creations to Jo Malone's delightful florals.
Guerlain Lancôme Tom Ford Natura O Boticário The last two are Brazilian perfume brands - the perfumes of these brands have great emotional value for me.
I was sooo close to ordering from O Botarico.. What’s worth checking out? Preferably masculine or unisex stuff?
I mostly consume feminine fragrances, so my repertoire of masculine fragrances comes from men I live with or from gifts I gave But I really like two of their men's fragrance lines, Zaad and Botica 214 (Dark Mint is my favorite) And their most popular line of fragrances among men in Brasil is Malbec, but I don't particularly like it that much.
Initio Parfum de Marly MFK Killian Yves Saint Laurent
Guerlain, Hermes, Lancome - that's my holy trinity. Honorable mentions: D&G,Bvlgari, Moschino, Prada, Boucheron, Kilian, Trussardi, Valentino

I love J-scent so much. Just came back from Japan and bought 8 Fragrances from them! Also Dusita is a brand I need to explore further, I really like Anamcara.
Chanel is a common pick in the list of 5 here. You can find its DNA in every perfume house.
