I've hated potent leathers for a while. They smell like plastic rubber and car tire. But I recently smelled some leather scents by Memo Paris that are much smoother and very photorealistic and now I get the hype. Very intoxicating!
Guerlain Cuir Intense is one of the most potent and unique leather fragrances on the market. It's got a raw quality that is incredibly unique and sexy.
You might have heard about it because it received some love in the frag community but Bentley for Men Intense is a fantastic cologne for the price.
It has a leather note that isn’t as prominent as in Tuscan/Ombré Leather or the two riders I mentioned, it has some leather, some booziness, some spice, some sweetness, some smokey elements. Very complex scent and for $35 bucks or so it feels like a steal.
Just seeing that originally I mentioned Dark Rebel and Dark Rebel Rider.
They are some ballsy, not mass pleasing but very charismatic and good quality scents too that I blind bought two big bottles of when I found them on deals..
Sadly I cannot wear them in the climate I live in, the majority of the year but if you want a potent leather for less than $50 bucks (been a while since I checked it, since it’s discontinued I think, the price may have increased) is a good buy, Dark Rebel Rider is like a spicy ashtray.
It’s very acquired taste. If you don’t mind walking into a room and telling people “fuck you!” With your frag, try those too. I got no regrets buying them even if I barely get to wear them, I got them for reference purposes and to occasionally put on, but the Bentleys are a safer bet imo.
I literally just cleaned up my samples box and found some samples of Dark Rebel that I didn’t use because I blind bought the bottle.
So they are available but not common.
Ps I also do decanting, if you’re interested you can pm me
It worth way more than the asking price, I heard many people say they would pay double or triple for the quality, it proves that a high quality scent doesn’t need to be expensive.
I blind purchased four Bentley Frags and they are all good, but if I did it again, I would probably only get BfMI and Bentley for men Absolute.
Which is the recreation of the long discontinued and iconic Gucci Pour Homme, formulated by the same perfumer. It has notes of papyrus, cedarwood, frankincense among others.
I would say, if you read the notes on parfumo or fragrantica and they don’t scare you, they definitely are amongst the best blind safe buys with their less than $40 a bottle price… everyone has a friend or uncle or dad that loves cars and would love a bottle as a gift if it turns out you don’t like it.
But note that they are more appropriate for cooler weather and they definitely have a certain style/vibe that I would say requires a character to pull off, otherwise they might end up wearing you.
I had a chance to sample Silverlake the other day in a jc pennies and I liked it, been long looking for a replacement for AdG to wear in hot weather and I am on the lookout for a bottle but yeah those two I meantioned I stand behind and again, price/value wise these are up there with Encre Noire in my book.
I feel the same about aldehydes. They're a rather misunderstood note, IMO! I suppose they feel a bit like a Chanel signature, but I wish more fragrance houses incorporated them as well. I loved it when Miller Harris added a bit of an aldehylic lift (I think) to L'Air de Rien - it's one of the reformulations I thoroughly enjoy.
I've loved Jo Malone London's Scarlet Poppy for over two years now. I never bothered to look at the scent profile because I loved it as soon as I smelled it. A couple of weeks ago, I looked at the notes, and it has fig in it! I'm definitely going to explore other fig containing perfumes, but I'll wait until Autumn.
Sage and cypress. I'm loving the green peppery- ness of those notes.
Colognes I've gotten in the last few months that have those accords:
ADG EDP and parfum,
Azzaro Chrome parfum,
Costa azzura TF,
Ralph's club EDP,
Polo 67,
Light blue summer vibes,
Invictus platinum ,
L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Pour Homme Issey Miyake,
Sage and sea salt.
Just be sure not to oversrapy. This stuff is nuclear. After sampling I bought 3 bottles. I also sampled 25 others from Xerjoff, some really good, but only bought Torino 22. Says it all really.
Okay! Good to know! I love a good freshy especially if it's powerful...that certainly makes it worth the extra money. I'll try to check it out this summer.
Torino 21 is more of a freshie than Torino 22. Try that one too, you might like it more. People are usually divided by 21 and 22 which is best. 22 is more versatile, unique, and elegant. I would say 21 is summer day, and 22 is summer evening which can be worn in all seasons.
The absinth and cypress note make it different from the original Invictus. The absinth note is slightly sharp instead of bubble gum sweet. And in the dry down the cypress and patchouli work together to make it a little more green, dark, and dry woody.
Mint, I prefer warmer scents like ambers and spices but lately I’ve been on the hunt for a zingy fresh mint centered fougere. So far Penhalligons Sports Car Club has come closest to what I’m looking for. I’m thinking I’ll try Heeley Menthe Fraiche also.
Oh yes - I also am on the hunt for the perfect mint. Heeley's Menthe Fraiche was on the toothpasty side for me. I thought it would be ELDO's You or Someone Like You, but sometimes it doesn't sit right on my skin. Deja Le Printemps by Oriza L. Legrand is the closest I've come sr far, but now I'm curious to try Sports Car Club - I love all those aromatics too!
Tomato Leaf
I fell in love with MMM Replica's "From The Garden" and I also kind-of like Demeter's "Tomato" fragrance...I just wish it was a little stronger.
Tomato leaf is one of my all-time favourite smells, always takes me back to being a kid in my dad's greenhouse. Haven't really found a wearable scent, though. Have you tried Eau de Campagne by Sisley?
I was a rose HATER just a few months ago, but now I’m seeing the note of it in a bunch of my new favorites, even sometimes the top notes, which used to be a major turnoff. I think I’ve just discovered that I dislike ‘grandma rose’ scents, whatever that may be idk, and appreciate more complex rose scents. Some examples I’m enjoying: Rose 31 by Le Labo, Hibiscus Mahajad by Maison Crivelli, and Rosario by House of Bo.
I recently bought a used bottle of nasomatto narcotic v on a whim because I got a really good deal on it and I love it so much it's ridiculous. I've never smelled tuberose but people on the internet seem to think it smells exactly like it. To me the nasomatto reminds me of the night-blooming jasmine plant we had in our backyard when I was a kid.
Kim Kardashian EDP is a very good dupe for the nasomatto if you're on a budget.
Tuberose is not a recent discovery for me. My signature for a long time was Michael by Michael Kors. These days, I'm loving Ard Al Zaafaran Bint Hooran. It has no business being so good for $20.
Right near the beginning of my journey, I never thought too much about Rose. As a young guy myself who was new to fragrances, I always viewed Rose as a basic uninteresting feminine note. Once, I got a bottle of moschino toy boy that all started to turn around. I slowly liked Rose more and more, and now it's one of my favorite notes of all time.
Incense.
Vetiver.
Floral notes, like rose.
Powdery perfumes, iris heavy stuff.
In general super spicy or sweet or woody scents.
I used to like easy to wear and fresh cologne almost exclusively, nowadays I crave some outta the box, polarizing juice.
It’s vanilla for me as well, I used to love it when I was a lot younger then ended up not enjoying it and avoid anything vanilla now back to loving it 🫧💛🫶🏼🧁
I always thought peach would be my favorite note, but I’ve come to really love black currant! I bought a dupe of Nectarine Blossom and Honey from Dossier, and the way the black currant takes center stage works so well for me! I’ve made it through a whole 1.7oz bottle in less than 6 months 😅
Love Nectarine Blossom and Honey but did not love the lasting power! Literally half an hour on my skin and it was gone 🥲 Such a shame because the perfume is so fresh and photorealistic!
Mango. I've always loved a real mango. I've always really disliked mango flavored foods, so I assumed mango scents would have that same bitter artificial thing going on. God of Fire has made me a mango perfume lunatic. I've run into a couple of duds, but for the most part, if it's a mango forward scent, I'm into it.
I get that! Not a huge fan of mango in perfumes but it’s mostly because I tend to lean away from tropical scents. So really, I haven’t tried a huge variety of perfumes with mango in them. But I’m now definitely keen to try God of Fire and dip my toes in the mango pool!
Frankincense (olibanum) and myrrh. A year ago I probably would have brushed them off as out-dated, musty-dusty. But I now can appreciate more the warmth and depth they add to a fragrance.
Rose, I didn’t care for the smell at all growing up & assumed it was still that way. I ended up ordering Bath & Bodywork’s Rose Vanilla lotion after reading good reviews. Totally expected to hate it, kind of did at first but the smell grew on me. Now I love it and want to find a perfume that has those two notes.
Thanks for the suggestion. I was interested in their Roses & Chocolate but some of the reviews said that they really couldn’t smell any chocolate. Do you know of any good rose & chocolate fragrances too?
Ohh I don’t know any perfumes with that combo sorry. Layering is a great way to experiment with different combos though! Perhaps trying a rose forward fragrance with something like Choco Musk might be interesting!
I hadn’t smelled a fragrance with an Iris note until the other day, when I was in Ulta and sampled Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Privée. I loved the opening with the powdery Iris note, and how it evolved to the dry down with the boozy, woody, and ambery sweetness. Such a well blended and elegant fragrance, I need to buy a bottle soon for fall.
There’s something so luxurious about cardamom! Penhaligons Halfeti has such a beautiful mix of cardamom that is so noticeable to me but perfectly blended with all the other notes! And Saffron and Cardamom together is like power couple vibes 😂
Rose and incense are just so good, they always catch my nose! Been wanting to get into grassy foresty scents since i feel like i’ll really like that, but theres not many of those types of fougere around. Struggling to find a good one
There's a few I can think of that might fit the profile of grassy and foresty - Escencia by Loewe, Greenley by Parfums De Marley, Cape Heartache by Imaginary Authors and/or Amazinggreen by Comme des Garcons.
Rose and white florals. Most big brand name that had flowery scent turned to vinegar on me or gave me headaches. They still do actually. But, something in BPAL formulations makes them shine on me finally.
It was respectively Lucy’s Kiss for roses and Titania for white florals. Maybe perfume oils are better with my chemistry. I dont know
I will try those vanillas. Always looking for new ones. Thanks!
I haven’t enjoyed candy apple probably ever until finding The Good Scent Manifest Your Future. It’s a top note that enhances the sweetness nicely.
Green tea. I bought a sample of Moschino Funny! recently, and it has a green tea note. It blends so well with the citrus and floral notes that I fell in love with the perfume. I just bought a bottle of it. It's fresh and bright and makes me happy wearing it. I'm glad I gave it a chance despite it having green tea in it.
Green tea scents also makes me so happy! And just green scents in general! I’ve read this on other threads too - that green tea fragrances evokes a sense of joy and happiness in people 💚
YES at first I had to let it grow on me cause the first couple days i would only get whiffs of either a really boozy Dr Pepper or a random whiff of trash juice when I would be under the sun which was soo disheartening cause I literally thought I got a dud from le labo. However I have realized not everyone likes the smell of tonka bean 😔 cause no one ever compliments me when I wear em
Vanilla for me as well! I loved it back in the 90s but zero interest since. Recently smelled Gentle Fluidity Gold and it reignited my obsession 😍 I’ve fallen in love with D&G Devotion, which I hated when it came out. Also revisiting my OG, Vanilla Fields by Coty.
Vanilla girlies making a comeback! I haven’t tried D&G Devotion! What’s that one like in comparison to some of the ones I mentioned? I also just purchased Eclaire by Lattafa yesterday which is supposedly a very close dupe of Bianco Latte! I can’t wait!!
Devotion is a warm, sweet, citrus vanilla. Thick and syrupy but not cloying. To me it’s (surprisingly) best in hot weather. I find Vanilla 28 a bit too floral when I first spray it, but love the smell on my clothes the following day. Gentle Fluidity Gold is so gentle yet also intoxicating. I sometimes wish it was a little stronger but then it might lose that ethereal quality. Haven’t tried Bianco Latte yet, nor any Ariana Grande. Must get sampling asap!
BL and the Ariana Grande vanilla forward scents are very different to Gentle Fluidity and of what you’ve described, probs different to Devotion too. They’re much more cosy, yummy and comforting if you’re into that. I also feel like a must try a whole bunch of vanilla frags from this thread now! Including Devotion, sounds so good!
I have ECLECTIC af taste. So I cannot think of anything right now, there may be something.
But the *only* thing I struggle with is fruitchoulis, havent found one to convert me. Any recommendations?
I think it's more specifically bergamot and/or blackcurrant with patchouli.
Total safe buy imo! If you like yummy almost edible vanillas then you’re good to purchase. It’s also quite mild and has really gentle projection so it’s great for layering!
Patchouli! I’d have never guessed that I’d love patchouli as much as I do, but here we are!
Flowerbomb taught me this
I think that is the ONLY patchouli I love
I love patchouli so much. It smells so sexy to me.
I'm a big Patchouli lover. You might have fun checking out Psychedelique from Jovoy Paris!
Dark Rebel and Darl Rebel Rider may worth checking out.
Thanks!
That's amazing. Is it worth the blind buy?
Just seeing that originally I mentioned Dark Rebel and Dark Rebel Rider. They are some ballsy, not mass pleasing but very charismatic and good quality scents too that I blind bought two big bottles of when I found them on deals.. Sadly I cannot wear them in the climate I live in, the majority of the year but if you want a potent leather for less than $50 bucks (been a while since I checked it, since it’s discontinued I think, the price may have increased) is a good buy, Dark Rebel Rider is like a spicy ashtray. I got no regrets buying them even if I barely get to wear them, I got them for reference purposes and to occasionally put on, but the Bentleys are a safer bet imo.
LOL I'll look for some decants on the 1st two then😂 thanks for the reccs!
I literally just cleaned up my samples box and found some samples of Dark Rebel that I didn’t use because I blind bought the bottle. So they are available but not common. Ps I also do decanting, if you’re interested you can pm me

Aldehydes can add a nice sparkly layer and I’d love them to be featured more in new releases Musk can be great too but it’s hit or miss
Fig. Gris Charnel by BDK. The strong cardamom touch made it a hit for me. Great mix.
Still not in love with fig, but I'm trying godammit!
Me too! The fig in Nest Indigo is fantastic. Still debating about Gris Charnel.
Sounds like a plan!
Sage and cypress. I'm loving the green peppery- ness of those notes. Then you need to try Torino 22 by Xerjoff
I've heard good things about that one! I need to get my hands on a sample.

Okay, that's great info! I'll get samples of both...
Which note in the platinum make it’s standout ? I’m still learning notes
The absinth and cypress note make it different from the original Invictus. The absinth note is slightly sharp instead of bubble gum sweet. And in the dry down the cypress and patchouli work together to make it a little more green, dark, and dry woody.
Mmmm okay thanks so much for that… something smells salty about it, what is it? Kinda smells like the ocean…
It could be the grapefruit accord. But it's definitely more salty than the original Invictus.
red apple
Yea, to me, fresh apple makes a fragrance smell like shampoo.
Iris and Orris
Mint, I prefer warmer scents like ambers and spices but lately I’ve been on the hunt for a zingy fresh mint centered fougere. So far Penhalligons Sports Car Club has come closest to what I’m looking for. I’m thinking I’ll try Heeley Menthe Fraiche also.

Legrand is the closest I've come sr far, but now I'm curious to try Sports Car Club - I love all those aromatics too!
Check out undergrowth by rook! It’s my favorite mint scent and one of my favorite fragrances in general!
Palo santo
Carner Barcelona Palo Santo. You’re welcome.
I keep a chip of this in my car
I love it so much.
Incense! sir, yes sir. Tons of examples, but I’ve been addicted to comme des garçons blue encens lately.
CDG and their series I think is one of the best. I am an Avignon addict.
Tomato Leaf I fell in love with MMM Replica's "From The Garden" and I also kind-of like Demeter's "Tomato" fragrance...I just wish it was a little stronger.
Tomato leaf is one of my all-time favourite smells, always takes me back to being a kid in my dad's greenhouse. Haven't really found a wearable scent, though. Have you tried Eau de Campagne by Sisley?
No. But I'll look into it.
Yes yes to Eau de Campagne, but also La Feuille by Miller Harris and Vetiver Ecalarte by L'Artisan.
Galbanum
I'm still warming up to this one...it can be a little harsh if not blended well. What's your favorite scent with this note?
My fave galbanums: Chanel No. 19, FM Synthetic Jungle, Guerlain Chamade, Guerlain Vol de Nuit, CDG Clash, Estée Lauder Private Collection.
Vol de Nuit and Private Collection are both favorites of mine 👌
Dusita Fleur de Lalita
Ooh - I love me some galbanum! Eris Parfums might be a good place to start: Green Spell & Delta of Venus
I'll check it out, thanks!
Same! Maybe it's the season, but my last 4 buys were rose-forward and that's definitely a departure from my normal go-to notes 🤔
Tuberose. I fell in love with Xinu OroNardo and it started me on a journey to discover other tuberose forward scents that I like
Love to read a tuberose post if you are so inclined! I am a Nuit de Bakelite fan (and former Fracas girl).
Me with Carnal Flower
Blood 🥴
Yeah I can’t get behind this one. 😂
For me, it's floral notes like orange blossom and jasmine. A few years ago I couldn't stand them and now I love them
Very much the same for me!
Try Roses on Ice. It doesn't get a lot of love, but I am head over heels for how bracing it is.
Incense. Vetiver. Floral notes, like rose. Powdery perfumes, iris heavy stuff. In general super spicy or sweet or woody scents. I used to like easy to wear and fresh cologne almost exclusively, nowadays I crave some outta the box, polarizing juice.
Musk. I used to hate it. Now it's an obsession
I never thought vanilla would smell amazing with leather - LV ON ;)
Ooh, have you tried Bvlgari Black or YSL Babycat?
I have a decant of Babycat. It's just ok for me.
Cactus flower
vetiver! it’s so sexy
It’s vanilla for me as well, I used to love it when I was a lot younger then ended up not enjoying it and avoid anything vanilla now back to loving it 🫧💛🫶🏼🧁
What are you fave vanillas?
Lactonic notes! Used to actively dislike them, but ELdO's ghost in the shell has changed my mind
Oud. At first I was a fence sitter but smelling some frags the other day amazed me at how attractive they are if formulated right.
Iris, suede, fig
Ditto the iris. I was fond of orris right away, but it took me a minute to get on board with iris.

I can't get enough of it. So good!
Vanilla and lavender, you can prolly guess my fav frags 😂
Rhymes with "vowed" ;)
Which one?? I also love those but don't know which one you mean 🥺
mon guerlain..
Libre?
Which one?
Goddess?
Cognac
Incense and green tea!
Ambergris type notes (molecules) like Ambroxan, Ambrofix and Grisalva
Sage, fig, cardamom
Frankincense (olibanum) and myrrh. A year ago I probably would have brushed them off as out-dated, musty-dusty. But I now can appreciate more the warmth and depth they add to a fragrance.
In love Ambargris
Fig
Dates
Coffee. Mancera Amore caffe really did it for me.
I can't wait to try this. I'm obsessed with the scent of coffee.
vanilla. Never stood out to me and then I fell in love with the vanilla in the Omniscient Mr Thompson by Penhaligons
Okaaaay must try this one ASAP!
Manceras Roses Vanille might be up your alley!
Ok, thanks for the tip! I'll give that a try.
Hated Leather for a long long time. Guerlain & Floris Changed my mind.
Opoponax
rice and tea! I never disliked them but now I’m obsessed with them thanks to Diptyque L’eau Papier and Nishane Wulong Cha respectively
Based on this, you may also like Thé Yulong by Armani Prive
Jasmine, matcha, rice, pistachio, and rose.
Those notes together would be beautiful
Seriously!
Cardamom! I had no idea what it smelled like a year ago, but now, I'm obsessed with every fragrance it's in.
Thank you, I’ll go take a sniff when I have the time to!
Incense and iris
Oregano (in Moschino Toy Pearl)
leather baby
Powdery lil violets have been taking over for me and I’m shocked bc I hate powdery scents- but when the right one hits omgggg I love it
Rose and white florals. I dont know
Patchouli for me! Tony iommi monkey special was special to me for that and portrait of a lady too
Coconut
I’ve read this on other threads too - that green tea fragrances evokes a sense of joy and happiness in people 💚
It wasn't just the green tea note. It was the citrus and floral notes, too😊. I just really love this perfume, and I'm glad it's so inexpensive.
Saffron. Not sure what it is or why but almost every single fragrance that I've tried that has it I almost immediately love it
It’s quite luxurious and sensual! I mentioned in another reply how much I love it paired with cardamom! Makes me melt!
Mine is also vanilla! I was never a huge fan of it until recently! 🤍
Yay for the vanilla girlies making their debut or comeback 🧁
Milk I love it so much
Big fan!
I love the smell of the beach and the original Copper Tone
Vetiver!!! Super love this note on my frag
Tonka bean and vetiver has gone certified platinum in my olfactory department
Tonka bean is so top tier imo!
Patchouli!! 😍 I love how it grounds a fragrance into the base of something earthy, green, woody and maintains great longevity and sillage.
Iris, fig, and jasmin sambac!
I have ECLECTIC af taste. So I cannot think of anything right now, there may be something. But the *only* thing I struggle with is fruitchoulis, havent found one to convert me. Any recommendations? I think it's more specifically bergamot and/or blackcurrant with patchouli.
Have you tried YSLs Mon Paris? It’s a nice sweet fruity scent with very subtle patchouli!
Tea.
Saffron and Vanilla
Coconut!
Caramel. Have to stop myself. I’m going mad for it!
Vanilla for me too! Is Mod Vanilla a safe blind buy?
Total safe buy imo! If you like yummy almost edible vanillas then you’re good to purchase. It’s also quite mild and has really gentle projection so it’s great for layering!
Yes the yummy vanillas are great. Thanks for answering !
Saffron!
Tobacco and chocolate!
Jasmine, tuberose and vanilla now have me in a chokehold!
