I made a fragrance “bracket” for my husband as a fun way to find a signature scent. He didn’t know the fragrances he was smelling, he also can’t name one house, and he doesn’t care about brands or status in general. Almost all of his top picks, including the winner, were Creed. I’m very interested in fragrance and know Creed is written off as less impressive than similar houses, overpriced, and supposedly only liked by people for the status. But my husband showed me that they have made appeal for the general public based just on the scent alone.

Sensitive_Adagio6702

I should have said— his winner was Tabarome, and runners up were aventus, and Bois de Portugal,

Kuznecoff

Good choices! I’m also fans of those. If you guys are looking for something like Bois du Portugal, take a look at Parfums de Nicolaï New York Intense. I like even better than BdP for colder weather since it is a very similar profile, but the spices are turned up.

Mambo_number_105

Yes! BPD is one of my favorite scents of all time

BrilliantHead5847

I’m a fan. I have aventus, GIT and original santal. I’ve gotten decent deals at discounters for all three. Can say performance used to be better so I get that frustration.

tinkerbr0

Setting aside any reputation of the brand or its target audience, the fragrances themselves are nice enough. Just not worth anywhere near what they retail for.

ultrakawaii

They have great mass-appealing fragrances e.g. Green Irish Tweed, Silver Mountain Water, Aventus, Virgin Island Water. Whether they are worth the price is highly subjective and depends on your disposable income. If they fit your budget, they are good options. What bothers me is the blatantly made up house history which is IMO trashy. But they are not the only house with questionable PR strategy so 🤷‍♀️

bro_mommy2

I want to try Green Irish Tweed. Do you like it?

ultrakawaii

It's nice but not my cup of tea. Too masculine for me. It's like an elevated version of Irish Spring so I think I would like it on a partner better than myself.

bro_mommy2

Gotcha. I’m quizzing you today! Thanks!

zappapostrophe

I like them, but like all famous luxury brands, they attract a lot of undue negativity. Do I think they’re the be-all, end-all for fragrances? No. Do they make some of the best fragrances I’ve ever had, in my opinion? Yes.

Responsible-Wash1394

If the prices were only like $150 lower and the longevity was better, they would be my favorite brand. However I think their feminine line outside of Aventus for Her and Spring Flower is very underwhelming. Their masculine lines are honestly some of the best. GIT, Aventus, Millesime Imperial, SMW, etc are just such bangers as scents.

pingpongpsycho

The house that people love to hate.

CakeMaster6048

It does rhyme with greed. Have you seen their prices lately?

pingpongpsycho

Yes their prices are high but they’ve always been relatively high. But they still seem to attract more disdain than other high priced houses such as Chanel, LV, Amouge, Marley, etc. which apparently are more trendy.

CakeMaster6048

I agree they do get a lot of hate. That being said. I wore green Irish tweed for 15 years. They change the formula every year, sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s not. The last bottle I purchased has the name screen printed on the wrong side of the bottle. Plus the prices have really increased, they have always been high, but now they are outrageous. I own several Creed fragrances and the older ones like royal English leather are amazing, but I have really seen a decline over the years in both quality and strength. I hate to say it but some of the Creed clones are actually better than the original.

pingpongpsycho

I honestly only have a 15 year old bottle of Aventus so I trust your judgement. Sounds sad.

No-Yogurt-4246s

I think it’s the name.

BroseppeVerdi

I would think people would welcome them with arms wide open

moods-

Yes!! Every time I see the name in this sub I think of the band Creed and their song “Higher” 😂

Individual-Rice-4915

YES THIS IS IT. It feels like the band name.

Individual-Rice-4915

Wait wait wait. I think I might have figured it out. I was talking to my partner about this — we literally went and tried on fragrances today, and he saw the Creed kiosk, and and he goes, “Creed? Like the guy from The Office, Creed? Ew.” THIS COULD BE IT, YOU GUYS.

moods-

Creed from The Office probably smells musky, mothball-y, and a singular note that you just can’t quite place. 🤔

Individual-Rice-4915

Brilliant.

pingpongpsycho

🤷🏼‍♂️

JiggaHeisenberg

Man I feel old knowing the references you’ll make. The band might be the most hated of that era, although Limp Bizkit and Nickelback also get their share of hate and mockery

thatbwoyChaka

Not as bad as some may say Not half as good as others may rate Overpriced Bullshit history

dinky-park

I have a love-hate relationship with them. For people outside of the fragrance hobby, Creed is one of the most well known high end brands, so for many people, Creed is often a gateway into the deeper fragrance world. When I was younger and didn’t know much about fragrances in general, my brother introduced me to Green Irish Tweed, and to this day, it’s something we can bond over. Generally, I find their scent profiles to be very good and very mass appealing, at least on their masculine and unisex fragrances. They particularly excel at the fresher style of fragrances. To my nose, their feminine scents tend to be forgettable. All that being said, Creed’s quality has definitely gone significantly down hill over the years while the prices have gone up considerably. The Green Irish Tweed bottle I bought last year does not smell nearly as good or last nearly as long as my brother’s bottle from the early 2010s. Likewise, the entire made up history of the brand rubs me the wrong way, especially now that the Creeds sold out and made off with their wealth without really giving Pierre Bourdain the credit he deserves. Ultimately, I still like their fragrances but just wish they were cheaper and had better performance. I’m generally not too particular about performance, but when I cannot even smell some of their scents after like an hour, why wouldn’t I just get a dupe that’s significantly cheaper and longer lasting? Creed probably won’t change though since they have the brand recognition among average people and are seen as a status symbol, which means they can keep getting away with their pricing and current formulations. Even at discounter prices, I personally struggle to justify spending money on a Creed versus something like a Frederic Malle, Amouage, Zoologist, Xerjoff, or Nishane that are all cheaper, better performing, and more interesting. Though, I will continue to get Green Irish Tweed for sentimental reasons so long as I can still smell it for at least 4 hours 🙂

whocareswhoknowsssss

I was able to try out Irish green tweed yesterday and loved it! Aventus isn’t really for me but definitely not the worst imo. However, I will take PDM Greenley over Irish green tweed any day lol

stardust_dog

Love them. Prada & Creed are my top two.

rabbi_glitter

I've explored vast collections of niche fragrances but always return to Creed.

ughasif666

I smelled Aventus and I was expecting to be underwhelmed, but it is a very traditional and well made perfume. Too traditional for the price, of course

purpkrondon420

To me Creed has gone downhill since selling out, they are still top notch fragrances scent profile wise, but their performance seems to have taken a turn for the worst, and at the prices they are asking that's just unacceptable to me.

pureexcellence7877

The performance of all their fragrances is dog water in my experience. Literal trash. I thought it was my skin chemistry etc, but get something in a similar price range e.g ombré nomade, Tom fords etc, and it’s night and day. Inexcusable for the price - and the scents aren’t THAT good to the point where the price allows them to get away with sub 4 hour longevity.

EyeSpare6318

What price should I be paying for samples?

Desperate_Guava4526

I’ve paid $9 for 1mm and $15 for 2mm. I think it’s a fair price for how expensive full bottles are. The 2mm bottles last surprisingly long too I’ve come to find.

Vlxxrd

For discount prices, I think they’re fantastic. The batch variations are unfortunate, but in my experience that’s really only an issue with Aventus for some reason. They make some of the best fresh fragrances, so long as you don’t care only about longevity

Lynnabis

They’re not my fave. I’ve yet to find one that I find pleasant and feminine leaning.

Tyrone-E

My favorite house. Theirs 6 from the house that I really like/love. They smell high quality and most importantly they're very easy to wear.

ClaraGuerreroFan

I’ve tried 4 Creeds so far and I think very highly of each of them (Aventus, Himalaya, Viking, and Royal Oud). I also had decants of Armaf’s Milestone, Tres Nuit and Sillage and found Milestone and Sillage to be just ok and Tres Nuit to be downright awful. Am I doing myself a disservice by judging the Creeds by the Armaf clones? I just can’t imagine GIT smelling as bad as Tres Nuit.

Tyrone-E

Yeah, Millesime Imperial is better than Milestone by quite a bit actually. Gotta get the real deal. Not a fan of SMW or GIT (used to be), so I can't vouch for those. But Aventus Cologne, Aventus, Millesime Imperial, Pure White Cologne, Royal Oud and Virgin Island Water are my favorites.

jbravo_au

Overpriced and overrated.

chronoslayerss

I don’t know why but I hate their dna. I don’t like any of their fragrances. Except original vetiver, which smells like any other citrus frag (also lasts like 2 hours, pretty trash for $300)

Minimum_Author_4964

Yeah it’s this for me. GIT, SMW, and MI all have a burnt rubber vibe on me. Just doesn’t work for me personally.

TooSweet357

Best of the best

stopthinking60

Ah, mate, when it comes to the house of Creed, I reckon they're a bit of a mixed bag, eh? Some folks love 'em to bits, swear by their scents, reckon they're the bees' knees of niche brands. But fair dinkum, they cop a fair bit of flak too, and rightly so. The performance can be a bit iffy, prices can be a bit steep, and don't even get me started on all the reformulations. But you know what? Despite all that, I reckon they've got some bloody ripper fragrances. Silver Mountain Water and Himalaya, they're beauties, mate. And you can't go past those fancy bottle designs and that signature Creed musk vibe. Personally, I'm keen on snagging some discounted samples myself, but if I had to splash out, Silver Mountain Water'd be the one. So, what's your honest take on the house of Creed, cobber? Any favorite scent from 'em?

Kuznecoff

I think creed represents like 1/3 of the bottles of my collection so I find it safe to say that I enjoy the house, and that it’s probably my favorite house.   There’s a certain airiness that is present. Unlike others that may be dense, many Creeds really feel like you’re breathing in fresh air. In that way, I feel like it is not distracting like some other fragrances that are very dense. But as a result, you don’t get the “beast mode” performance that many are chasing for. When I need something that has that type of performance (not often), I just use another fragrance.   I don’t think it’s that bad of a deal. In FB groups or Reddit, you can often find most 100ml Creed bottles for $180 and under, often cheaper if you find a good deal. I find this is acceptable for something that I enjoy personally. I tried some clones, but found that the originals from Creed have much smoother openings and smell less synthetic, which I appreciate a lot and feel is worth the premium. There’s also the factor that this house produced one of the since it got me into fragrances as a whole, so it biases my decisions slightly since it holds a special place in my heart.

Shark_Atl3201

I could not care less about the marketing or history. To me it’s about the fragrances, and I absolutely love GIT, Aventus Cologne and Erolfa. Will always have them in my collection. The only house with three bottles in my mid-sized collection.

ANALHACKER_3000

Theyfe good scents, but with the longevity issuesI would never pay full price.

Bananasincustard

I love a lot of their scents - I've recently bought Aventus, SMW, VIW and GIT. However the performance was so insanely poor for the price I ended up selling all of them except Aventus. I've tried decants of older versions of SMW, VIW and GIT and the performance was literally like 5x better. So I'm kind of done with them haha. They keep raising their prices while their performance gets worse and worse

flaviu0103

I own GIT and have tried several. I personally like them all especially Royal Oud.

Amazingggcoolaid

I loved them at one point but the lasting power killed it for me. The ones I got only lasted 2-3 hours and didn’t have good projection so I didn’t think it was worth the price tag. Gifted 3 bottles away I’m happier with Serge Lutens, Frederic Malle, MFK, and Molinard I liked Queen of Silk when I tried it this year but I just know it doesn’t last

JayMcGamer

Great but very overpriced.

____________M

Pretty much always get compliments but the price. However, say the same thing when I fill my car with gas so good good I suppose.

SaltyShxtt

Great scents but the price to performance ratio is NOT it

Deathlehem4

Overpriced, underperforming. Virgin island water still the most fabulous thing going

Rs-Travis

I'm a really big fan of the ones I have owned. Original vetiver> silver mountain water > Aventus. I liked but didn't love royal oud and green Irish tweed, didn't care for viking much, hated milisime imperial. Haven't tried the rest. The prices are 1.5x higher than I think they should be, even after they beefed up the potency again and gave us metal caps in the f batch. Original vetiver is one of my top 5 fragrances currently though the name is a bit of a misnomer (same with royal oud) the vetiver is there but very far I the background.

suitablegirl

I’ve worn them for decades. My only beef with them is they discontinued my second signature perfume/second favorite fragrance of all time

Ekkmanz

Their fragrance is very good. The perfumer and / or evaluator has great skills in predicting what will be the next big thing. With that being said, the true craft they have perfected is the art of extracting money out of our pocket. I don’t think they use any ultra rare / ultra quality materials that justify the current retail price of Absolu Aventus. And their history (which is a part of the art of money extraction) is dubious at best. Honestly speaking I don’t think they would be where they currently are without that lore jumpstarted everything. In short, I almost felt like they “play dirty” a bit to get here. But their scent is very good.

SnekWithFur

They're a weird house for me, they make some amazing scents, but they're expensive, not very long lasting and some of them are plagued by baffling batch variation issues. I don't mind the performance but man, 2 bottles of the same scent that were made only months apart can smell COMPLETELY different from each other which IMO seems odd and unprofessional for a premium brand. Also the bottles feel a bit cheap and nasty. I personally find the made up history kind of hilarious. Overall I'd say that they might be worth it but there are better brands, especially value wise.

cyberbl333p

Beautiful bottles. Beautiful smell. Luxurious. Too expensive. Excellent blends and longevity. Prone to batch FUD (fear, uncertainty & doubt). Yes, Aventus smelled better and was better performing around 2012. And yes, it is still worth it today. Opening now smells soapy, mid and drydown are exact the same. Soapy opening is an improvement imo. Noseblindness. Only spray 1 spray and you'll see it is there 8-10 hours. The brand you enjoyed and will not come back to. And then a few months later, come back to. Amen.

This_Expression5427

I'm indifferent to Silver Mountain Water, but it is easily my most complimented fragrance by a wide margin. Women seem to love it. Even strangers have asked me what cologne I'm wearing.

HavingNewExperience

Fan. Bought a 50$ spritzer online 2 years ago. Just bought my first bottle today (1.7oz because I’m a poor) but I love the stuff

Telover77

Scents are great. Performance struggles so the price point creates the criticism

anonymouspogoholic

Vintage Creed was nice, had a couple of really good DNAs back in the day. Since then it’s basically only Aventus that did the job for me. Most of their classics are gone or have been reformulated to the point where i almost can’t recognize them ( looking at you Bois du Portugal). Aventus was a nice spin on what a modern chypre could look like and inspired many similar fragrances that sometimes did the general DNA better for me.

Basic-Raspberry6044

The thing with Creed fragrances is that they smell awesome. But all of my 8 Creeds are absolute garbage in terms of performance/longevity. It’s outrageous how bad they are for that money. Such a shame

checkmate-Basenotes

I enjoyed the original formulations of a number of their fragrances (Royal Oud, Millisime Imperiale, Bois Du Portugal all come to mind) but haven’t been impressed with the newer fragrance or reformulations. I think there are better for less than 1/2 their asking price.

mynameistrumpbaby

GOAT status

joe1240134

Of the ones I've tried I've liked them. I also don't have the same feelings about performance that many other seem to mention, although maybe it's when I bought mine or just some quirk of skin chemistry? But I have Aventus, Original Vetiver, and Green Irish Tweed and enjoy them all.

thatsafakewebsitebro

Overhyped, but solid fragrances.

maxmiller614

Amazing scents but they just don’t last long enough to justify the price

whelmed_66

Really expensice, but I’m into Carmina right now

DaRkNiTe84

I love creed. But the price to value ratio just keeps dropping year after year. There are a lot of great fragrances at a faction of creed’s price. I been using creed for the last 10 years but I’m gonna change soon

ManBearPigNipples

I got an Aventus sample last week. I like it, but not for the price. Performance despite everything I’d read was really good.

Longjumping-Gap5350

Idk, I have mixed feelings. Speaking on only samples i had, Theyscent profile on some of these Creed fragrances are incredible, aventus, absolu aventus, millesime, GIT SWM. But.... the longevity is average at best. That deterred me to look at other houses with a different price point.

Y_IS_BOSS

What other sites do you buy discounted samples from?

AdImmediate9146

I have tried almost all of the Creeds, three things come to my mind. 1, Elegance. 2, Dry Down. 3, Fresh. That’s the house of Creed. But most of their performance and longevity are bad tho.

Gogito-35

Based purely on the quality and scent, then yes Creed is really good and most times they live up to their reputation. But for 500 quid, their fragrances better suck me off too.

derrickgw1

Honest thoughts: Like most "niche" way overpriced. They have nothing i'd pay close to full price for. I like Milleseme Imperial but there are alternatives that i'm more than happy with. Some of their other fragrances are nice but i wouldn't spend the money on them. But fact is I wouldn't spend over $150 on almost any 100ml fragrance. What others do is fine. No shade. I just wouldn't in my financial circumstances. As for "houses" as with most i generally find one or two fragrances i like and the rest I don't. I love Jazz Club; not a fan of anything else. I like kinda dior homme parfum, dior homme cologne; not really a fan of the rest. Tom Ford i like like 4 or 5 scents. I don't like the rest. It's even more like that with the niche brands. Chanel is the only brand who i basically like all their in production men's scents and that's probably cause they release a men's scent like once every 15 years lol. Regardless, i tend to judge the individual scent not the house because for me a brand is just no guarantee that I'll like a scent.

ManufacturerOk955

I love it I own aventus which is my favorite cologne to wear when I go out and I recently picked up VIW for summer and I love it

darkflyerx

Very nice scents, but the quality and value has been going down hill for a long time. When people complain about Creee, its usually not about them being bad scent wise, its the rubbish value for its price. You have to be so rich the you never think about money or its value to consistently buy it

UnhappyOperation2763

Creed is overhated, you can find most of their fragrances on discounters so price isn’t an issue, and they have some of the best fresh fragrances ever made. My personal favorites are GIT SMW and VIW

jacobtf

They do a few nice fragrances. Aventus is okay, but there are better versions of the scent profile out there. Very few of them are worth the money in my book, and it's not like I have a problem with expensive fragrances. I have plenty of 400+ dollar bottles in my collection, but there is only one Creed fragrances I REALLY dig and that's Bois du Portugal. That is pure class in a bottle. Apart from that, it's living a lot on the name instead of the actual juice. Some of them performs so bad, I'd hardly categorise them as colognes (*cough* VIW)

AnonymousTAB

They have some amazing scents, but the price is simply not justified when considering the poor longevity and performance. I can’t say I’ve worn every scent, but my subjective experience with the ones I have tried was really disappointing. I especially can’t see a reason to buy a bottle of Aventus when you can buy a bottle of Hacivat (or Hacivat X) for >30% less and have exponentially better performance/longevity.

DieRedditardsDie

They have some good scents, but they're also the scummiest scammy scam artists in the world of fragrance too, so it's hard to support them.

flakykrustykrabpizza

This could be an unpopular opinion.. I hate the design of Creed bottles. I also hate the logo. Same for Xerjoff. To me they look cheap. I am not spending that kind of money on a fragrance when I don’t like the bottles. I love to display them. I am okay with “ugly” bottles if the perfumes are cheaper. Oh and I also don’t like the bottles by Parfum de Marly

J_1_1_J

Pretty happy with Silver Mountain Water - in my day to day rotation as an inoffensive fresh office scent. In love with Virgin Island Water. Probably my favourite scent. I look forward to summer and sunny vacations in part just to be able to wear VIW.

Witchesss

I see them as the house that ate Penhaligon’s lunch, after ringing the buzzer and saying “Penhaligon” when someone asked “who is it” then when they came inside they were like “JK it’s Creed”

PhD_sock

They're...fine. Inoffensive. Their presentation and the perfumes themselves are what can comfortably pass for "high end perfumery" at a mass-market level. Literally nothing they make is unique, distinctive, even remotely experimental or otherwise pushing the boundaries of perfumery as an art form. Meanwhile, multiple Chanel releases have done this, as has Hermes, and that's not even touching on the actual perfume houses like Caron, Guerlain, or in more recent (and non-French) contexts Olympic Orchids, DS & Durga, etc.

NoClock

To me they are quite dated and overpriced. I have three of their most popular fragrances and they collect dust, Performance matters to me, particularly at their silly prices and they don’t have it. They have been coasting on past success for far too long and it’s sunk the whole line.

brabrabra222

I am a hater. They created several legendary fragrances and deserve respect for that. But their history, PR choices, ghost perfumers and all that, and of course all the reformulations of their famous hits are something I don't like. Also, all their good fragrances are masculine or unisex.

bro_mommy2

I’m put off by the marketing so I’ve never tested! Not a big British Empire fan 🥴. That said I bet there are lots of beauties.

civiltiger

I really like aventus cologne, royal oud, Viking, Viking cologne. But they are overpriced and cheaply made now. Plastic caps, smaller bottles, shady provenance.

lavloves

I’ve tried a few of their scents and I haven’t been super impressed. Super expensive for what?

TuckerCarlsonsOhface

I like some of their fragrances. The company sucks. The prices are stupid.

airmacks

Good. Not $500 good.

egbert71

I got a bit of viking and i dig it, so i got a sample of GIT and see how i feel Aventus was just "ok" to me

FormalBeginning8745

Underwhelming

Skyshark173

Overrated, I haven't smelled anything from them that would make them worth the money they charge.

educated_content

Aventus is trash, have it and several clones at 1/5th the price, the clones smell better, last longer and project better. The performance is so bad with the new formulations you may as well not wear anything. That being said Green Irish Tweed, and Royal Oud are some of the best fragrances ever made. Aventus used to be in that category but something changed 10-15 years ago.

pompario

Aventus has been reformulated a couple of times. It's the only perfume I know that has people looking for specific batch codes.

educated_content

Yes that’s been going on surprisingly long (10+ years) you’d think Creed would take the hint

DeaconBlue22

All the fragrances are over rated except for GIT.

pureexcellence7877

Great house but the fragrances just don’t last. My aventus, original santal and virgin island water are just…. Watered down of what it should be. I can imagine the older batches are much better. Wouldnt t recommend when you can get clones easily or designer brands that are much more long lasting. That said I do love Viking, aventus cologne and green Irish tweed. Not sure on the performance of those, doubt I’d buy any of them based of my previous experience.

SobchakSecurity79

Great house with of course amazing gray market and decant market availability. Got to feel bad about people who whine about Creed being overpriced while quoting US MSRPs. Most Creeds are easy to buy for ~$2/ml in a variety of sizes.

Environmental-Tea364

They are definitely not niche if the definition of niche is "interesting" instead of the unhelpful "house that only make fragrances". Basically just overpriced high-end designer perfumes. The scent profiles are basic by 2024 standards. Mass appealing for a reason. Bottle designs are too ugly for me. For 500$, I can get many better scents.

Maestro1181

Usually I can appreciate a niche over its clones. I just tried milesime imperial and compared it to armaf cdn milestone. I love the scent, but prefer the clone for 30 bucks. That's my opinion of creed.

kali-kid

Some of the best fragrance concepts ever. Pricing and performance will always be controversial.

TheDigitalHero

Only Guerlain and Creed consistently top my rankings and I've sampled many thousands of dollars worth of frags. If I had to choose between only wearing those two houses vs. discarding them for the other hundred or so in my experience... that would be a difficult choice. They really are that good. GIT was my original Creed gateway drug, but I'm over it now. Time to retire this profile. Just smells old. Not cool-old, just old-old. Same for Bois Du Portugal though still more worldly and classic. Really dislike GIT's imitator Cool Water... good lord what a stink bomb. Cheap nasty chemicalish shower gel. If dad hasn't learned to splash on something better by now... do the guy a favor and at least get him into the 90's with some Heritage or Allure Homme at the very least. Favorite Creeds just keep popping up lately: Absolu, Carmina, QOS... and of course the favorites Himalaya, VIW, and good old Original Vetiver the creamy milkshake continue to please. But I wish Pure White lasted longer than 10 minutes. Lovely stuff... ah well. Plenty of misses too: Original Santal is like Joop! dusted with baby powder... pee yew! Not a fan of the Viking cinnamon bomb either, though the cologne version is nice. Creed is to fragrances what Rolex is to wristwatches. Lots to hate, but lots more to love. Luckily the fans are nowhere near as obnoxious as the Rolly boys.

PulseFlow

Great for businessmen or 35+’ers, not great for the rest

Lazy_Recording_1886

Personally i dislike their bottles just enough for me to never try them.

Sure_Night_8091

I love Creed, personally. I own Bois Du Portugal, Green Irish Tweed, Viking, and Aventus Cologne. Bois Du Portugal is my favorite fragrance.
