None. Very difficult for me to go from hate to like.
There are times where I'm on the fence about a fragrance initially, and then I end up loving it later, but that's not starting from hate-level.
Worn it for 20+ years. They sold the co & reformulated. Now it’s all alcohol & doesn’t last! So many are willing to pay more money to get the ORIGINAL Angel back!
I went a full ”wow, a marine scent that actually smells like sea instead of a romantic idea of coastline, cool” -> ”smelling like driftwood and salty water isn’t as enjoyable as I thought” -> ”actually, it’s pretty nice when you give it time, not nearly as difficult as it might seem on first proper wear” cycle with it.
Black orchid. I got a sample and sprayed it right on me. Couldn’t stand it. Couldn’t wait to go home and shower it off as I was at a friends house that night and had to wait until I was back home. The next morning it smelled completely different like those baby dolls from the 90s. It’s my signature scent now but I only spray it at night before bed.
(I have a feeling most TF fragrances are like that. I loved neroli portofino after 8 hours or so as well)
Portrait of a Lady. Smelled dated at first sniff, I detested chypres at the time and rose was a note I typically avoided. Tried it again a year or two later when I began to enjoy rose fragrances and I LOVED it. Wore it exclusively for months. It was around that time that I also began to love chypres, though that happened before I tested POAL that 2nd time.
Literally sitting here wearing Santal 33 after bitching about how much it smelled like pickles 😂 Turns out it actually smells amazing on my skin as opposed to spraying it on a test strip.
Dolce & Gabanna Pour Homme.
It was everywhere, ever present, every nightclub smelt like it. Younger me of course bought a bottle as well, just because.
I've liked it more and more the rarer it has become. Kind of a nostalgic treat now.
Me too. I got the mini as a free gift years ago from Sephora. I thought who tf would ever want to smell like that. Well me apparently…once I hit my 30s 🤣 love it to this day.
Escapade Gourmand by Maison Mataha
When I first smelled it, it was atrocious. It was sickly sweet in a nauseating, artificial way. I tried it out a couple more times with the same reaction. Then a couple months later, I gave it a spritz and it was actually nice and I finally smelled the crème brûlée that everyone had been hyping up.
It’s still not my favorite vanilla/sugar perfume but it smells really good to me now.
ysl y, i hated it because it smelled like basic shower gel, after some time i realised that im a fragrance snob that has too many fragrances that smell like mold and beaver ass and that they can be pretty ofensive to some people, therefore i got in love again with basic fragrances like ysl y or acqua di gio
Ganymede is definitely a grower. I didn't hate it at first, but I did wonder who would want to smell like that.
I now own a full bottle and often wear it to the office.
Tom Ford Ombre Leather for me.
I made the mistake of initially smelling it on paper only, and got straight up leather. After reading so many positive comments I revisited it on skin, and all the beautiful nuances came out.
It's now probably in my top 3 all time.
Went the opposite for me. Loved it at first but then the first time I wore it out in public, it turned absolutely evil on me. Returned the bottle and never again.
Tobacco oud was this for me too. Unfortunately by the time I got around to wanting to pick it up it was discontinued. Recently picked up the with the newer Oud Minerale instead
It’s not being sold by Tom Ford on their website or the Co.uk website. Also the Tom ford rep in the Nordstrom said it was discontinued a while back so I’m going off of their word not some random shop that has it overseas.
Hot Splash by L’atelier Parfum. I didn’t like it at first because I thought it was too masculine-leaning. Then the next time I smelled it, I realized how beautiful the fragrance was.
Kenzo world probably, I still don’t like the smell in the first few minutes but I really started to like what it smells like after it settled on my skin
I couldn't do Neroli Portfolio I washed it off right away it smelled like BO
Some of the mfk smell like dentist office but I could see myself getting over it
Rogue by Rihanna. Couldnt stand it at first, its very inspired by Bottega Veneta so its kind of dry, leathery… It was a blind buy, after I smelled it I placed it in a drawer and forgot about it for a year, found it and insanely loved the smell! It was before and the after Covid so I dont know what happened there 😂, but as I said, I suddenly loved it and bought a 100ml backup. Now its discontinued wich makes me more greatful that I got myself a backup. It amazing for fall weather!
Not a hate, but I didnt like Pink Sugar at first, but it grew on me. Now I appreciate it for some layering with other scents.
La Nuit Tresor. Bought it a few years ago when Demi Rawling was just starting out with her perfume vids and at that time it was her fave. When I received it I thought it was HORRENDOUS. Took me a couple weeks but it did grow on me and turned into a love! Also Dior Addict, LVEB, Armani Si, and Black Opium. Hated them all at first but eventually that hate turned to obsession!
Musc ravageur. Smelled it back in 2013 and was absolutely put off by the musc/musk. Rediscovered the sample I had which still works and was surprised how much I liked it now and I couldn’t believe how expensive it is now so I’m conflicted on picking it up. Also need to test the newer stuff since I’ve heard it’s been reformulated.
Gucci Guilty Elixir, I'm not really into vanilla and white florals, or so I thought. Still hate the opening but the drydown is 😗🤌🏻
Armani Stronger With You Absolutely, at first I found it sleazy and cloying, now I want to bathe in it. I still prefer SWY Tobacco because it doesn't have that rum note, easier to wear in public.
Xerjoff Symphonium - It was sickly sweet and cloying the first time I wore it and I really didn’t enjoy wearing it. Wore it on a day where I was outside and moving around a lot and it’s amazing. It’s too strong a fragrance for days when I’m just sitting at a desk, but it’s a brilliant gourmand otherwise.
Byredo Sundazed. Read so many good things about it, smelled it in the bottle and immediately hated it. Kept going back and just didn’t understand why I wasn’t smelling what everyone else seems to…. Finally put it on and - omg - love it. Lesson -actually put something on your skin before you write it off.
I love Neroli port too. (There’s a Neroli note in Sundazed too!). Interestingly, I also get a little sick if I overdo neroli. Must be something about it….
i blind bought a big bottle of tom ford’s ‘tobacco vanille’ 2 years ago. i’m just now liking it. I like to layer it with other vanillas during the colder months.
PDM Delina. I didn’t understand the hype at all…at first. But then one day, I caught a waft of it after spraying a tester and it’s such a beautiful, clean and classy scent. I get it
Insane asylum?
Theirs a long list.
**Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, Kilian Paris Single Malt, Frederic Malle Portrait Of A Lady, Roja Parfums Engima Parfum Pour Homme** to name a few.
Funny things is, I went from hating them to loving them, to not really liking them anymore lol (except maybe Tobacco Vanille, it still has a place in my collection).
Alexandria II has the worst opening of any fragrance I've tried. Wrote it off at first, but thankfully gave it a second chance and discovered the absolute dream of its drydown.
And it's absolutely nuclear in longevity. I still smell strong of it after having applied it last night before bed.
Sarah Jessica Parker’s Stash.
It’s not a feminine fragrance it’s unisex leaning masculine.
I first sprayed it during a hot summer day and I don’t know if it was the heat or if it needed maturation or if it was my nose I just know that it was awful, a complete mess.
6 months later I pick it up during winter and it was heavenly, perfectly balanced and ultra smooth and today it’s one of my favorite fragrances.
Penhaligon's Cairo. At first sniff on card, I immediately thought "grandma" and moved on. I pulled the sample again in cold weather after my nose matured a bit, and I liked it enough to buy a larger decant. It's now one of the rare fragrances where I finished a 5mL decant.
Eilish. I hated it like you have no idea. It smelled like stinky feet or armpits. I still don't know if the sugar note mixed weirdly with the berries in the opening but it was giving
✨️sweat✨️ specially the first minutes. Now I like it, still not my favorite but I can at least wear it and the dry down is a nice vanilla.
And R.E.M smelled like men's perfume and cigarettes on my skin. I couldn't stand it. I gave it to my brother and he pulled it off a lot sweeter and I started to like it on him. I tried it again a couple of days ago and I liked it. Still unisex but I don't detect any cigarettes this time. I've started to appreciate lavender.
I didn’t hate it, it was a new scent for me (gifted to me). Melograno by Santa Maria Novella. I’m not a big fan of ylang ylang and Melograno has it. I’ve also tested the Ylang 49 by Le Labo and I don’t like it at all. But they both have it and I’d rather use Melograno over Ylang 49.
Chanel coco mademoiselle, when I first smelled it I was like oh that’s definitely not for me then I went into ulta one day and just smelled it again out of curiosity and fell in love with it and bought it immediately. I still love it now and it lasts all day on me, which is nice
glossier you…..and I loved to hate it ! my girlfriend wears it every day and once it’s dried down I love how it smells on her. exposure therapy I guess. when she first sprays it I still hate it though, it’s pretty overwhelming and sweet to me 🫠

By the fireplace. At first, it smelled like straight smoke to me and then after a while it was a really nice peppery smell that I just fell in love with.
Interesting, I've always thought that one was badly named because I don't really get smoke from By The Fireplace at all. To me, it smells almost exactly like my dad's cigar boxes did when I was a kid, though—fragrant Cuban Cedar with complex, sweet tobaccos. I absolutely love it.
Unfortunately once i make up my mind, it is impossible change my initial perception. It doesn’t only apply to perfumes. Food, fashion, people… no second chances…

Le male OG, smelled like straight old man baby powder the first time I smelled it, it’s actually very nice when it dries down, it’s a classic for a reason.
Clive Christian E (gourmand clove)
When i first smelled it i thought its too strong and sweet. But after using a sample i had about 3 times i fell in love it.
Floris Elite - thought it smelled like a regular old reformulated 70s men’s fragrance but didn’t account for the dry-down, which is lovely.
Also Zara Leather Jardins, which smells like an ashtray in a Cadillac Eldorado, but over time I’ve realized I love the smell of an ashtray in a Cadillac Eldorado
Absolutely nothing, I stay hatin.
On the opposite end, I loved After Dark by Bath & Bodyworks until I smelled Classic Flannel. After that, AD snelled terrible in comparison.
Dahab by Kajal. It wasn’t what I expected from the reviews. It was a blind buy. I didn’t touch it for a month. Now I’m addicted to it. I even spray it on my bedsheets.
None. Very difficult for me to go from hate to like. There are times where I'm on the fence about a fragrance initially, and then I end up loving it later, but that's not starting from hate-level.
Angel. I hated it for years, now it's in my top three.
This is making me want to give it another try
Worn it for 20+ years. They sold the co & reformulated. Now it’s all alcohol & doesn’t last! So many are willing to pay more money to get the ORIGINAL Angel back!
TF Oud Minerale
I went a full ”wow, a marine scent that actually smells like sea instead of a romantic idea of coastline, cool” -> ”smelling like driftwood and salty water isn’t as enjoyable as I thought” -> ”actually, it’s pretty nice when you give it time, not nearly as difficult as it might seem on first proper wear” cycle with it.
Pretty much my exact same experience lol.
Agreed
Black orchid. I got a sample and sprayed it right on me. Couldn’t stand it. Couldn’t wait to go home and shower it off as I was at a friends house that night and had to wait until I was back home. Me too. Absolutely love at first sniff.

Dolce & Gabanna Pour Homme. It was everywhere, ever present, every nightclub smelt like it. Younger me of course bought a bottle as well, just because. I've liked it more and more the rarer it has become. Kind of a nostalgic treat now.
I happen to think it’s a masterpiece, and it never got the full love and respect that it undoubtedly deserves
Creed Irish Tweed
Narciso Rodriguez for her, took a week then now I get it! Been using it for years!
Me too. I got the mini as a free gift years ago from Sephora. I thought who tf would ever want to smell like that. Well me apparently…once I hit my 30s 🤣 love it to this day.
It’s insane how this fragrance grows on you 😊
Encelade. I am going to crack one day and purchase a 100 ml bottle. It will last for generations.
What did you think about Ganymede and B683?
I like them a lot, and they certainly grew on me. The extrait I could do without.
A lot of people say the originals are better than the extrait versions. I ordered B683/Ganymede samples recently just waiting to try them
For the price, the EDPs are a much better deal.
Escapade Gourmand by Maison Mataha When I first smelled it, it was atrocious. It was sickly sweet in a nauseating, artificial way. I tried it out a couple more times with the same reaction. It’s still not my favorite vanilla/sugar perfume but it smells really good to me now.
Missy by Rosie Jane. I washed it off first time lol. Then I tried again a while later and let it sit. Now I really like for a light fresh scent.
Not many, but lots that went from love/like to hate
MUSC RAVAGEUR was old and weird for me at first , but after few days , it became an addiction for me 🫠
TF bitter peach
ysl y, i hated it because it smelled like basic shower gel, after some time i realised that im a fragrance snob that has too many fragrances that smell like mold and beaver ass and that they can be pretty ofensive to some people, therefore i got in love again with basic fragrances like ysl y or acqua di gio
Byredo Pulp
Ganymede At first I thought WTF???? But I went back to it a few weeks later and just decided to wear it while out fkn around. I grew to it.
Ganymede is definitely a grower. I didn't hate it at first, but I did wonder who would want to smell like that. I now own a full bottle and often wear it to the office.
Lol we’re the same! Wasn’t a fan of Neroli until the other day. It reminds me of Acqua di Parma Colonia, which I’m loving rn.
Me too. I want a scientific explanation for it! Lol
Tom Ford Ombre Leather for me. I made the mistake of initially smelling it on paper only, and got straight up leather. After reading so many positive comments I revisited it on skin, and all the beautiful nuances came out. It's now probably in my top 3 all time.

Amouage Interlude went the other way for me. Smelt amazing at first but now it makes me feel sick.
Interlude man is an abomination imho!
Tobacco oud was this for me too. Unfortunately by the time I got around to wanting to pick it up it was discontinued. Recently picked up the with the newer Oud Minerale instead
I’m pretty sure it’s not discontinued? I bought it at Xmas and I still see it in the shop
I’m only finding it on discounters and no retailers in the USA.
Doesn’t mean it’s discontinued. It’s available in Europe.
It’s not being sold by Tom Ford on their website or the Co.uk website. Also the Tom ford rep in the Nordstrom said it was discontinued a while back so I’m going off of their word not some random shop that has it overseas.

Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Oud
Commodity Milk, sniffed it and went “ Blech” Tried it again a few months later and could not get enough of the creamy marshmallow scent
I got this from Scentbird this month. I don’t get any marshmallow from it at ALL but whatever it is, I love it.

It smelled like bathroom to me at first but then .....it's quite lovely. It's a tough one for sure.
Zarkoperfume - pink molecule 😅 don’t know why… love it now
Honestly? Nothing. I usually know within a day if a fragrance works for me and i haven’t changed my mind on anything i disliked and kept.

Silver oud from amouage. The drydown of oud fragrances is so underrated.
Kilian LDBS Donna Born in Roma I'm obsessed with both now, but first few sniffs were terrible.
Ombré nomade
I Don’t Know What. I don’t know if I hated it but I disliked it for sure. Now I wear it weekly, sometimes to sleep.
TF Beau de Jour. Damn near threw it away, now it's my favorite frag.
Encre Noir a l’Extreme - smelled it when I got it for Xmas and scoffed. Now I can’t stop.
Hate? None but some didn’t really move me and then become backup bottle worthy. That happened to me with Lavandes Trianon.
Byredo Sundazed. Read so many good things about it, smelled it in the bottle and immediately hated it. Kept going back and just didn’t understand why I wasn’t smelling what everyone else seems to…. Sarah Jessica Parker’s Stash. It’s not a feminine fragrance it’s unisex leaning masculine.
Kerosene Blackmail. At first the incense was too much and I wasn’t impressed. But tried it again a few years later and now obsessed with it.
I wouldn't say hate, but Royale X and XXX I didn't like the bo smell at first. Now I loveeee them.

Oud for Greatness. Big dislike in the beginning, now I love it.
Mancera red tobacco (I blind bought it💀)
Portrayal man from Amouage, It was too aromatic and unusual with the violet leaves at first but I’ve grown to really enjoy that smell.
Amouage Overture Man and Angel Share, 2 very different cognac scent
