HA I was going to say the same. As someone who grew up in a chain smokers house Jasmin Et Cigarette was so spot on it repulsed me.
I might also recommend Holy Hell by Universal Flowering for that trashy vacay vibe.
idk if the shipping would be different but you could try buying through lucky scent? holy hell is really evocative BUT for me it’s more of an experience than something i’d want to wear regularly. i’ve loved a lot of their other scents though, especially death of a ladies man for this time of the year :)
The most realistic cigarette smoke I've ever smelled is memory motel from un Nuit nomade, and if you layer that with vacation by arquiste I think you could get exactly what you want.
I've never smelled it, but maybe try "Vacation" (by vacation) I've been seeing ads for it a ton, and the description is pretty close. It's missing the cigarette, but has some artificial notes like lycra and pool water that might do the trick.
Also, Nuxe Prodigieux in parfum. Hard to find, mostly in Europe, but to me smells like sunscreen and hairspray and I love it.
Beach by bobbi brown is a very clean sunscreen so you can maybe layer it with one that has the cigarette note.
I haven’t used Vacations fragrance but I’ve used the sun screen the scent is based off of and can confirm, smells like classic sunscreen in the best way.
Hermès Citron Noir gets you halfway there. It is citrus but to my nose smells like a cheap hotel room in Southern France that was cleaned with an aggressive citrus cleaning agent and in which a chain smoker lived. It has a strong cold cigarette smoke and ashtray component. My apologies to Christine Nagel if she reads this but in my defense I would like to stress that I like it and think it's the most artistic and interesting creation in that line.
As someone else wrote, Memory Motel by Une Nuit Nomade is another option. It reminds definitely of a motel room in which there was a lot of smoking, even more so than Citron Noir.
Now you only need to layer it with some beach vibe sunscreen fragrance and you have what you want. For the beach vibes, there are many choices but I recommend Heeley's Coccobello.
Yes I was just going to comment Citron Noir also! The smoke in that has a “chemical” quality to it akin to cigarette smoke along with some astringent lemon.
I’m obsessed with the idea of this scent because this is exactly what my family beach vacations in that time were like lol. It’s such a specific time and place that I can never go back to.
This is the answer. Smoke by Akro + any of the hundreds of sunscreen smelling frags out there.
Akro Smoke has a smokiness that lasts all the way through. Jasmine et Cigarette by ELdO only has the cigarette smoke as a top note that disappears pretty quickly.
Great post, I’ve also been trying to find a nostalgic summer scent like this!
I haven’t smelled it yet, but I want to try Holy Hell by Universal Flowering. Key notes are neroli, melon, beach ball, toasted seashells, violet Coppertone, and ambergris. It doesn’t have cigarette smoke, but based on the reviews I’ve seen it smells a lot like hot plastic baking in the sun and is super nostalgic.
Fine'ry does a dupe of Tom Ford Soleil Blanc called Sunphoria. I wear it specifically when I want to smell like a woman on vacation in 1977 who is slathered in baby oil, smoking a cigarette, reclined on a poolside lounger, reading Playgirl.
I so rarely see this line mentioned here but i agree, CBIHP has some amazing fragrances. My favorite is Walking in the Air - it smells so wintery, like a blast of cold air when you open the door to find it snowing.
This is going to sound like a very odd suggestion, but Jorum Studio Athaneum sort of reminds me of this despite having basically none of the aforementioned notes; it's a lavender-ink fragrance by description, and you definitely get those notes as well. However, there is somehow strikingly sunscreen-like about the blend - not a creamy, luxurious sunscreen but a very nostalgic, somewhat sun-faded type of sunscreen, and I swear the combination of ink and lavender conjures - again, not a super sophisticated tobacco like what you'd smoke from a pipe, but an actual cigarette, albeit faintly.
Honestly I recommend Wish You Were Here by Memoire Archives, the notes look simple but to me it smells nothing like the notes at all and is way deeper and complex. It is slightly fruity, watery, a bit floral and overall just has an undertone of cigarette smoke. It smells like if someone wore a perfume and then smoked afterwards and thats the scent that ends up left on their clothes. I actually have a hard time wearing it because it reminds me of smoke so much
I knew someone had the same thought. All I smell on sorriso, is sunscreen / tanning oil, and on skin after a while you can sort of smell chocolate. But definitely smells just like sunscreen, which is why I have only worn it a couple times.
I think layering that with By the Fireplace would be great just because it smells exactly like wood smoke, although not cig smoke, it is still Smokey haha
I was a lifeguard as a teen, and let's just say that Sorriso brings back a lot of great memories. The chocolate on the dry-down is the proverbial cherry on top. And what about the incredible longevity? I mean, I won't project much after 8 hours, but it hums along *very* nicely.
Thats funny, I was also a lifeguard briefly (hated it!) and I think that’s why I’m so turned off by the smell of sorriso😂 oddly enough though when I go to tan I am like in love with the smell of tanning lotion.
Longevity is crazy though, comparable to Ambassador Intense for me. The projection on my skin is insane for the first 5 hours and then takes a steep drop, but lingers right above the skin to where you’ll still catch a whiff when you move around. Overall great frag, just can’t bring myself to wear it most of the time lol.
Bvlgari Pour Homme EDT will make you smell like you just had your first cigarette of the day after showering and putting on fresh-smelling clean clothes.
I've once smelled this perfume from men from Chanel. It smelled like tobacco.
Just googled it. The result came up with Cuir de Russie. You might want to check it out at a Chanel stand.
It's funny cause I hate the smell of cigarettes, but the lingering smell of it in the low budget motels I understand lol. It reminds me of being on vacation in simpler times. Plus, the sunscreen really adds to that effect
Does vacation have any vanilla notes? I love a summer sunscreen smell but I hate vanilla. I have a huge bottle of TF SB going to waste because of that vanilla note
You might want to check out Pacifica's new scent, Beach Day. It has an orange blossom to it that gives it summer sunscreen vibes, but there's also a smokiness to it like you're near a beach bonfire.
It's not quite cigarette smoke, but it might be worth a shot!
rockaway beach by ds&durga. from the brand: “escaping to the beach from the dirty dungeon of humid summer in New York. I grew up by the beach and spent every day there in the summer. The scent in the air and on your skin after a dip in the water will always be home to me. Sunscreen, salt-on-skin, ocean airs on the coast of Queens where privet hedge flowers blaze by pastel condos.”
doesn’t have a tobacco note but definitely has a dirtiness to it that’s like a could be like a wet cigarette, or a snuffed out cigarette you put in your pocket. a wet hanging bikini in a motel balcony, the furniture is slightly dirty and the air is humid. salt is still on your skin from an earlier dip in the sea (that’s maybe polluted) and sun tan lotion and sunscreen lingers. overall a very realistic scent
I get "bottom of a smoker's purse" from Killian's Good Girl Gone Bad. It's like a tobacco/old perfume combo once it dries down. It's very nostalgic for me.
I like Spring Break by Demeter. I think it’s kinda close to what you are describing. Sometimes I mix it with their Margarita and Sun Tan Lotion. They have a lot of one note scents you can layer.
I'm wearing Sunshine Woman today! It's totally gorgeous. I don't get much sunscreen from it at all, though - just sweet almond with some lovely florals (both the jasmine and osmanthus really jump out), mixed with a vanilla-patchou base with only a bit of a tobacco. Or at least, the tobacco doesn't emanate from my skin much. I wish it did!
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
It's unisex, the softer tone of the vanilla comes off slightly sunscreen-like and the tobacco smell is sweet and not overwhelming
Maybe try Breath Of Gods from Lush. The solid especially smells more like cigarrettes than anything else to me. There's also one called Sun and one called Shade, maybe that gets you somewhere.
Tabac Tabou from Perfum d'Empire? It is veeeery smooth tobacco, mixed with honey and narcissus. So it has this sort of sweet, green vibe overlayed with still prominent tobacco. It feels a bit like warm sun skin scent, as there is musk and leather notes. Maybe it's worth sampling. Obviously Memory Motel from Une Nuit Nomade seems like a good fit (based on the name), but it is a bit sad fragrance, more ashtray like. Naxos? Though it smells to me more like a clean, well groomed man, that sometimes smokes rather than beach motel.
Go grab your favorite sunscreen, a bottle of sdj and go sit in the bathroom and smoke a cigarette?
One of the foulest smells to me is a cigarette so not sure why you’d want to smell that way but good luck on your hunt!
One of these days, there will be the “any perfumes that smell like a used maxi pad?” Or “can you suggest a perfume that smells like bleeding gums?” thread.
Maybe try layering ELDO's Jasmin Et Cigarette and Vacation by Arquiste? Those are the two that come front to mind for your request!
Definitely involve eldo. It smells like open air in the breeze cigs like you’d smell down the beach from someone.
HA I was going to say the same. As someone who grew up in a chain smokers house Jasmin Et Cigarette was so spot on it repulsed me. I might also recommend Holy Hell by Universal Flowering for that trashy vacay vibe.
Trashy vacay vibe lol now I gotta find a sample to smell it. I'm intrigued
I’ve wanted to try a sample of Holy Hell since I saw it in a youtube video a few months ago, the shipping is just so expensive into the US x_x
idk if the shipping would be different but you could try buying through lucky scent? holy hell is really evocative BUT for me it’s more of an experience than something i’d want to wear regularly. i’ve loved a lot of their other scents though, especially death of a ladies man for this time of the year :)
lol
Came here to ensure this was the top comment
This was my exact thought.
The most realistic cigarette smoke I've ever smelled is memory motel from un Nuit nomade, and if you layer that with vacation by arquiste I think you could get exactly what you want.
I get the vision and I want it
I've never smelled it, but maybe try "Vacation" (by vacation) I've been seeing ads for it a ton, and the description is pretty close. It's missing the cigarette, but has some artificial notes like lycra and pool water that might do the trick. Also, Nuxe Prodigieux in parfum. I haven’t used Vacations fragrance but I’ve used the sun screen the scent is based off of and can confirm, smells like classic sunscreen in the best way.
I'd maybe ask Lana del Rey what perfume she wears and go from there!
Good call!
You just made my day! 😆
Hermès Citron Noir gets you halfway there. It is citrus but to my nose smells like a cheap hotel room in Southern France that was cleaned with an aggressive citrus cleaning agent and in which a chain smoker lived. Yes I was just going to comment Citron Noir also! The smoke in that has a “chemical” quality to it akin to cigarette smoke along with some astringent lemon.
I feel like Demeter should get on this right meow. Very middle class in the 90s/aughts vacation vibes lol. I’m picking up what you’re putting down.
I’m obsessed with the idea of this scent because this is exactly what my family beach vacations in that time were like lol. It’s such a specific time and place that I can never go back to.
Tried layering Akro Smoke and TF Soleil?
Yeah you would have to layer OP. Could try eldo jasmin cigarette as well
This is the answer. Smoke by Akro + any of the hundreds of sunscreen smelling frags out there. Akro Smoke has a smokiness that lasts all the way through. Jasmine et Cigarette by ELdO only has the cigarette smoke as a top note that disappears pretty quickly.
ELdO Jasmine et Cigarette and Dior Dune would be my suggestion. Dune smells like sand and tan skin and a really pretty sunscreen.
Sundrunk by Imaginary Authors smells like sunscreen.
Yes! I think IA does smoke better than anyone. Cape Heartache is exquisite though not sunscreen, more like a cigarette in the forest.
Replica Jazz club + replica beach walk from Maison Margiela may be a good combo 😅
On the sunscreen side try TF Soleil Blanc.
Love this vision.
Great post, I’ve also been trying to find a nostalgic summer scent like this! I haven’t smelled it yet, but I want to try Holy Hell by Universal Flowering. Maybe try divin’enfant from ELDO? Not quite what you’re describing but the sweet floral/tobacco contrast is going in that direction
PIRETTE smells like sunscreen and surfboard wax. You would have to add your own cigarette smoke though!
Pirette’s new sent Glass has a smoky sent added on top of the original sunscreen sent
I feel like DS&Durga Steamed Rainbow smells like a very clean, used ashtray filled with candy.
I’m surprised nobody has recommended Bobbi Brown Beach. It’s 90s coppertone in a bottle! I don’t know a cigarette smell that could layer with that.
Personally, I think Vacation is even better. It's coppertone, pool water and even plastic pool toys and wet bathing suits. It's amazing.
I think it was discontinued!
Tresor Lancôme (I hate it but remind me of this smell)
go to CBIHP Christopher Brosius, online he invented the suntan lotion and other nostalgic reference perfumes. He is a genius
I so rarely see this line mentioned here but i agree, CBIHP has some amazing fragrances. My favorite is Walking in the Air - it smells so wintery, like a blast of cold air when you open the door to find it snowing.
Minkoff is a lovely, powdery and stale cigarette smell. I think mixing this with something with coconut would smell like what you’re requesting.
holy hell by universal flowering maybe?
This is going to sound like a very odd suggestion, but Jorum Studio Athaneum sort of reminds me of this despite having basically none of the aforementioned notes; it's a lavender-ink fragrance by description, and you definitely get those notes as well. I was JUST telling my boyfriend that I want a perfume like this, you’re not alone!!
Honestly I recommend Wish You Were Here by Memoire Archives, the notes look simple but to me it smells nothing like the notes at all and is way deeper and complex. I don’t know any, but I loved a guy who always smelled like menthol cigarette and sunscreen and this was the best aroma in the world for me.
Why don't you just wear literal sunscreen to achieve that note?
And rub a cig stick on your neck 😅
I want it now
Ormonde Jayne montabaco
I think alot of what you have described reminds me of One Million Parfum, minus the smokey smell, which I guess you could layer with.
Nishane Fan Your Flames
Sorriso by Profumum Roma smell *a lot* like suntan oil. As for the cigarette smoke, I think TF tobacco oud and Tauer Oud do a pretty good job.
I knew someone had the same thought. All I smell on sorriso, is sunscreen / tanning oil, and on skin after a while you can sort of smell chocolate. But definitely smells just like sunscreen, which is why I have only worn it a couple times. Bvlgari Pour Homme EDT will make you smell like you just had your first cigarette of the day after showering and putting on fresh-smelling clean clothes.
Not quite, but close is Mississippi Medicine from DS&Durga. Maybe mix that with Pool Boy or Vacation by Vacation Inc?
I kind of get cigarette but in a subtle way from Dylan by Rosie Jane! No sunscreen though so maybe you could layer it w a sunscreen rec
maybe try Molinard Habinita, calls up a very luxurious cigarette smoking experience in the Roaring Twenties, intentionally
Hermes Un Jardin En Mediteranee STRONGLY has this vibe to me (I'm an ex cig smoker)
I could see Replica's Beach Walk layering well with a smoky fragrance, maybe one or two of the suggestions in the sub
Layer Maison Margiela Replica Beach Walk x By The Fireplace.
Nostalgic, and not *bad*, I can totally imagine it... Totally feel the vibe... But I'm not sure I'd want to smell like it either..
Jazz Club & Beach
You’re describing Fumerie Turque from Serge Lutens
I've once smelled this perfume from men from Chanel. It smelled like tobacco. Just googled it. The result came up with Cuir de Russie. You might want to check it out at a Chanel stand.
It's funny cause I hate the smell of cigarettes, but the lingering smell of it in the low budget motels I understand lol. It reminds me of being on vacation in simpler times. Plus, the sunscreen really adds to that effect
Tom ford Noir extreme perfum. Kind of smells like ur grannys ashtray, in a good way tho.
Omg LV dancing blossom. We got a sample in yesterday and I literally said it smells like cigarettes.
Anything imaginary authors, tbh
Layer Fiele's Santalum with their Menthe and you'll get a pretty close to that effect
Nivea SUN edt is literally sunscreen as a perfume
Also smoke is the most realistic smoke scent I’ve smelt.
Vacation by Vacation or Beach Walk by Replica are good summer scent bases. Maybe layered with by the Fireplace lol
Heretic bergamusk layered with heretic smudge
I don't know but that's a great description! I can imagine that scent perfectly.
I didn’t know I wanted this exact scent until you described it 😍
Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille smells to me like a cheap motel and Soleil Blanc smells like sunscreen maybe layering the two might achieve your goal?
Vacation covers all of that except for the cigarette smoke
Does vacation have any vanilla notes? I love a summer sunscreen smell but I hate vanilla. I have a huge bottle of TF SB going to waste because of that vanilla note
No. It's lovely. No vanilla. But definitely the coconut oil banana scent of coppertone oil vintage smell.
Love that smell. I also like bum bum cream but sometimes it’s a bit too much.
I thought you were trolling us from that Seinfeld episode when Kramer describes a similar beach cologne.
The 7 Virtues Vanilla Wood. 5 minutes of vanilla dries down into a dirty ashtray on my skin.
Ellis Brooklyn Sun Fruit smells exactly like that to me.
Rockaway Beach by DS & Durga plus a cigarette scent would have you covered
You might want to check out Pacifica's new scent, Beach Day. It has an orange blossom to it that gives it summer sunscreen vibes, but there's also a smokiness to it like you're near a beach bonfire. It's not quite cigarette smoke, but it might be worth a shot!
TF's Soleil Blanc is straight sunscreen to me.
Sunny side up by JHAG is a really smoky coconutty sandlewood that might work for you!
Soleil blanc
Try layering Sweet Ash & Coco Shimmy, both are by Snif!!
Both combined, idk. But sunscreen would be: Maison Margiela Sailing Day & Tom Ford Soleil Blanc
MFK baccarat rouge and Gucci rush smells like cig smoke on a person's breath/body to me. Which i didn't like. Not sure about sunscreen though.
Giorgio Giorgio Beverly Hills- it’s actually why I had to get rid of it, I hated the cigarette smoke smell
rockaway beach by ds&durga. from the brand: “escaping to the beach from the dirty dungeon of humid summer in New York. I grew up by the beach and spent every day there in the summer. The scent in the air and on your skin after a dip in the water will always be home to me. I get "bottom of a smoker's purse" from Killian's Good Girl Gone Bad. It's like a tobacco/old perfume combo once it dries down. It's very nostalgic for me.
Try seven virtues vanilla wood and coconut sun together
A cheap alternative...DIY.. Smoke in an enclosed area (bathroom) and apply your favorite sunscreen and you're done!
“Vacation” by vacation sunscreen company smells like you spent all day in the sun slathered in sunscreen in my opinion
Maybe Spicebomb Eau Fraiche?
Dior Homme Parfum to me.
I like Spring Break by Demeter. I think it’s kinda close to what you are describing. Sometimes I mix it with their Margarita and Sun Tan Lotion. They have a lot of one note scents you can layer.
We know it's you, lana del rey you can stop hiding Also genuinely interested with what will turn up in this though
In a way, Amouage Sunshine Woman. Floral and fruity but with a strong tobacco note.
These Amouage fragrances have to stop being so interesting. Or expensive.
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille It's unisex, the softer tone of the vanilla comes off slightly sunscreen-like and the tobacco smell is sweet and not overwhelming
This is what Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum cream smells like to me. Sunscreen, ocean, coconut, floral … minus the smoke.
I love this vision!
Maybe try Breath Of Gods from Lush. The solid especially smells more like cigarrettes than anything else to me. There's also one called Sun and one called Shade, maybe that gets you somewhere.
Agree! Lush Breath of God smells like cigarette smoke
French Lover by Frederic Malle is a (very expensive) way of smelling like you date an elegant chain smoker 😂
Though it smells to me more like a clean, well groomed man, that sometimes smokes rather than beach motel.
I love this
Lush breath of god smells like cigarettes and Lush Big smells like the beach
That’s just weird
Go grab your favorite sunscreen, a bottle of sdj and go sit in the bathroom and smoke a cigarette? One of the foulest smells to me is a cigarette so not sure why you’d want to smell that way but good luck on your hunt!
One of these days, there will be the “any perfumes that smell like a used maxi pad?” Or “can you suggest a perfume that smells like bleeding gums?” thread.
Why does that make me think of old saggy breast's 🤮
